Chapter 13Medinan43 Verses

Verse 1

الٓمٓر ۚalif-lam-meem-raAlif Laam Mim Ra
تِلْكَtil'kaThese
ءَايَـٰتُāyātu(are) the Verses
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ۗl-kitābi(of) the Book
وَٱلَّذِىٓwa-alladhīAnd that which
أُنزِلَunzilahas been revealed
إِلَيْكَilaykato you
مِنminfrom
رَّبِّكَrabbikayour Lord
ٱلْحَقُّl-ḥaqu(is) the truth
وَلَـٰكِنَّwalākinnabut
أَكْثَرَaktharamost
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi(of) the mankind
لَاlā(do) not
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnabelieve

Translation

Alif Laam Mim Ra These (are) the Verses (of) the Book And that which has been revealed to you from your Lord (is) the truth but most (of) the mankind (do) not believe

Verse 2

ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllah
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Who
رَفَعَrafaʿaraised
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
بِغَيْرِbighayriwithout
عَمَدٍۢʿamadinpillars
تَرَوْنَهَا ۖtarawnahāthat you see
ثُمَّthummathen
ٱسْتَوَىٰis'tawāHe established
عَلَىʿalāon
ٱلْعَرْشِ ۖl-ʿarshithe Throne
وَسَخَّرَwasakharaand subjected
ٱلشَّمْسَl-shamsathe sun
وَٱلْقَمَرَ ۖwal-qamaraand the moon
كُلٌّۭkulluneach
يَجْرِىyajrīrunning
لِأَجَلٍۢli-ajalinfor a term
مُّسَمًّۭى ۚmusammanappointed
يُدَبِّرُyudabbiruHe arranges
ٱلْأَمْرَl-amrathe matter
يُفَصِّلُyufaṣṣiluHe details
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِl-āyātithe Signs
لَعَلَّكُمlaʿallakumso that you may
بِلِقَآءِbiliqāiin the meeting
رَبِّكُمْrabbikum(with) your Lord
تُوقِنُونَtūqinūnabelieve with certainty

Translation

Allah (is) the One Who raised the heavens without pillars that you see then He established on the Throne and subjected the sun and the moon each running for a term appointed He arranges the matter He details the Signs so that you may in the meeting (with) your Lord believe with certainty

Verse 3

وَهُوَwahuwaAnd He
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Who
مَدَّmaddaspread
ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earth
وَجَعَلَwajaʿalaand placed
فِيهَاfīhāin it
رَوَٰسِىَrawāsiyafirm mountains
وَأَنْهَـٰرًۭا ۖwa-anhāranand rivers
وَمِنwaminand from
كُلِّkulliall
ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِl-thamarāti(of) the fruits
جَعَلَjaʿalaHe made
فِيهَاfīhāin it
زَوْجَيْنِzawjaynipairs
ٱثْنَيْنِ ۖith'naynitwo
يُغْشِىyugh'shīHe covers
ٱلَّيْلَal-laylathe night
ٱلنَّهَارَ ۚl-nahāra(with) the day
إِنَّinnaIndeed
فِىfīin
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢlaāyātinsurely (are) Signs
لِّقَوْمٍۢliqawminfor a people
يَتَفَكَّرُونَyatafakkarūnawho ponder

Translation

And He (is) the One Who spread the earth and placed in it firm mountains and rivers and from all (of) the fruits He made in it pairs two He covers the night (with) the day Indeed in that surely (are) Signs for a people who ponder

Verse 4

وَفِىwafīAnd in
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
قِطَعٌۭqiṭaʿunare tracks
مُّتَجَـٰوِرَٰتٌۭmutajāwirātunneighboring
وَجَنَّـٰتٌۭwajannātunand gardens
مِّنْminof
أَعْنَـٰبٍۢaʿnābingrapevines
وَزَرْعٌۭwazarʿunand crops
وَنَخِيلٌۭwanakhīlunand date-palms
صِنْوَانٌۭṣin'wānuntrees (growing) from a single root
وَغَيْرُwaghayruand not
صِنْوَانٍۢṣin'wānintrees (growing) from a single root
يُسْقَىٰyus'qāwatered
بِمَآءٍۢbimāinwith water
وَٰحِدٍۢwāḥidinone
وَنُفَضِّلُwanufaḍḍilubut We cause to exceed
بَعْضَهَاbaʿḍahāsome of them
عَلَىٰʿalāover
بَعْضٍۢbaʿḍinothers
فِىfīin
ٱلْأُكُلِ ۚl-ukulithe fruit
إِنَّinnaIndeed
فِىfīin
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢlaāyātinsurely (are) Signs
لِّقَوْمٍۢliqawminfor a people
يَعْقِلُونَyaʿqilūnawho use reason

Translation

And in the earth are tracks neighboring and gardens of grapevines and crops and date-palms trees (growing) from a single root and not trees (growing) from a single root watered with water one but We cause to exceed some of them over others in the fruit Indeed in that surely (are) Signs for a people who use reason

Verse 5

۞ وَإِنwa-inAnd if
تَعْجَبْtaʿjabyou (are) astonished
فَعَجَبٌۭfaʿajabunthen astonishing
قَوْلُهُمْqawluhum(is) their saying
أَءِذَاa-idhāWhen
كُنَّاkunnāwe are
تُرَٰبًاturābandust
أَءِنَّاa-innāwill we
لَفِىlafī(be) indeed, in
خَلْقٍۢkhalqina creation
جَدِيدٍ ۗjadīdinnew
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(are) the ones who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
بِرَبِّهِمْ ۖbirabbihimin their Lord
وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَwa-ulāikaand those
ٱلْأَغْلَـٰلُl-aghlāluthe iron chains
فِىٓfī(will be) in
أَعْنَاقِهِمْ ۖaʿnāqihimtheir necks
وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَwa-ulāikathose
أَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu(are the) companions
ٱلنَّارِ ۖl-nāri(of) the Fire
هُمْhumthey
فِيهَاfīhāin it
خَـٰلِدُونَkhālidūna(will) abide forever

Translation

And if you (are) astonished then astonishing (is) their saying When we are dust will we (be) indeed, in a creation new Those (are) the ones who disbelieved in their Lord and those the iron chains (will be) in their necks those (are the) companions (of) the Fire they in it (will) abide forever

Verse 6

وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَwayastaʿjilūnakaAnd they ask you to hasten
بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِbil-sayi-atithe evil
قَبْلَqablabefore
ٱلْحَسَنَةِl-ḥasanatithe good
وَقَدْwaqadand verily
خَلَتْkhalathas occurred
مِنminfrom
قَبْلِهِمُqablihimubefore them
ٱلْمَثُلَـٰتُ ۗl-mathulātu[the] similar punishments
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lord
لَذُوladhū(is) full
مَغْفِرَةٍۢmaghfiratin(of) forgiveness
لِّلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor mankind
عَلَىٰʿalāfor
ظُلْمِهِمْ ۖẓul'mihimtheir wrongdoing
وَإِنَّwa-innaand indeed
رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lord
لَشَدِيدُlashadīdu(is) severe
ٱلْعِقَابِl-ʿiqābi(in) the penalty

Translation

And they ask you to hasten the evil before the good and verily has occurred from before them [the] similar punishments And indeed your Lord (is) full (of) forgiveness for mankind for their wrongdoing and indeed your Lord (is) severe (in) the penalty

Verse 7

وَيَقُولُwayaqūluAnd say
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
لَوْلَآlawlāWhy not
أُنزِلَunzilahas been sent down
عَلَيْهِʿalayhito him
ءَايَةٌۭāyatuna sign
مِّنminfrom
رَّبِّهِۦٓ ۗrabbihihis Lord
إِنَّمَآinnamāOnly
أَنتَantayou
مُنذِرٌۭ ۖmundhirun(are) a warner
وَلِكُلِّwalikulliand for every
قَوْمٍqawminpeople
هَادٍhādin(is) a guide

Translation

And say those who disbelieved Why not has been sent down to him a sign from his Lord Only you (are) a warner and for every people (is) a guide

Verse 8

ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllah
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknows
مَاmāwhat
تَحْمِلُtaḥmilucarries
كُلُّkulluevery
أُنثَىٰunthāfemale
وَمَاwamāand what
تَغِيضُtaghīḍufall short
ٱلْأَرْحَامُl-arḥāmuthe womb
وَمَاwamāand what
تَزْدَادُ ۖtazdāduthey exceed
وَكُلُّwakulluAnd every
شَىْءٍshayinthing
عِندَهُۥʿindahuwith Him
بِمِقْدَارٍbimiq'dārin(is) in due proportion

Translation

Allah knows what carries every female and what fall short the womb and what they exceed And every thing with Him (is) in due proportion

Verse 9

عَـٰلِمُʿālimuKnower
ٱلْغَيْبِl-ghaybi(of) the unseen
وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِwal-shahādatiand the witnessed
ٱلْكَبِيرُl-kabīruthe Most Great
ٱلْمُتَعَالِl-mutaʿālithe Most High

Translation

Knower (of) the unseen and the witnessed the Most Great the Most High

Verse 10

سَوَآءٌۭsawāon(It is) same (to Him)
مِّنكُمminkum[of you]
مَّنْman(one) who
أَسَرَّasarraconceals
ٱلْقَوْلَl-qawlathe speech
وَمَنwamanor (one) who
جَهَرَjaharapublicizes
بِهِۦbihiit
وَمَنْwamanand (one) who
هُوَhuwa[he]
مُسْتَخْفٍۭmus'takhfin(is) hidden
بِٱلَّيْلِbi-al-layliby night
وَسَارِبٌۢwasāribunor goes freely
بِٱلنَّهَارِbil-nahāriby day

Translation

(It is) same (to Him) [of you] (one) who conceals the speech or (one) who publicizes it and (one) who [he] (is) hidden by night or goes freely by day

Verse 11

لَهُۥlahuFor him
مُعَقِّبَـٰتٌۭmuʿaqqibātun(are) successive (Angels)
مِّنۢminfrom
بَيْنِbayni(before)
يَدَيْهِyadayhi(him)
وَمِنْwaminand from
خَلْفِهِۦkhalfihiand behind him
يَحْفَظُونَهُۥyaḥfaẓūnahuwho guard him
مِنْminby
أَمْرِamri(the) command
ٱللَّهِ ۗl-lahi(of) Allah
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لَاlā(does) not
يُغَيِّرُyughayyiruchange
مَاmā(the condition)
بِقَوْمٍbiqawminof a people
حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
يُغَيِّرُوا۟yughayyirūthey change
مَاmāwhat
بِأَنفُسِهِمْ ۗbi-anfusihim(is) in themselves
وَإِذَآwa-idhāAnd when
أَرَادَarādawills
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
بِقَوْمٍۢbiqawminfor a people
سُوٓءًۭاsūanmisfortune
فَلَاfalāthen (there is) no
مَرَدَّmaraddaturning away
لَهُۥ ۚlahuof it
وَمَاwamāand not
لَهُمlahumfor them
مِّنminfrom
دُونِهِۦdūnihibesides Him
مِنminany
وَالٍwālinprotector

Translation

For him (are) successive (Angels) from (before) (him) and from and behind him who guard him by (the) command (of) Allah Indeed Allah (does) not change (the condition) of a people until they change what (is) in themselves And when wills Allah for a people misfortune then (there is) no turning away of it and not for them from besides Him any protector

Verse 12

هُوَhuwaHe
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Who
يُرِيكُمُyurīkumushows you
ٱلْبَرْقَl-barqathe lightning
خَوْفًۭاkhawfana fear
وَطَمَعًۭاwaṭamaʿanand a hope
وَيُنشِئُwayunshi-uand brings up
ٱلسَّحَابَl-saḥābathe clouds
ٱلثِّقَالَl-thiqālathe heavy

Translation

He (is) the One Who shows you the lightning a fear and a hope and brings up the clouds the heavy

Verse 13

وَيُسَبِّحُwayusabbiḥuAnd glorifies
ٱلرَّعْدُl-raʿduthe thunder
بِحَمْدِهِۦbiḥamdihiwith his praise
وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُwal-malāikatuand the Angels
مِنْminfor
خِيفَتِهِۦkhīfatihifear of Him
وَيُرْسِلُwayur'siluAnd He sends
ٱلصَّوَٰعِقَl-ṣawāʿiqathe thunderbolts
فَيُصِيبُfayuṣībuand strikes
بِهَاbihāwith it
مَنmanwhom
يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
وَهُمْwahumyet they
يُجَـٰدِلُونَyujādilūnadispute
فِىfīabout
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
وَهُوَwahuwaAnd He
شَدِيدُshadīdu(is) Mighty
ٱلْمِحَالِl-miḥāli(in) Strength

Translation

And glorifies the thunder with his praise and the Angels for fear of Him And He sends the thunderbolts and strikes with it whom He wills yet they dispute about Allah And He (is) Mighty (in) Strength

Verse 14

لَهُۥlahuTo Him
دَعْوَةُdaʿwatu(is) supplication
ٱلْحَقِّ ۖl-ḥaqi(of) the truth
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whom
يَدْعُونَyadʿūnathey invoke
مِنminbesides Him
دُونِهِۦdūnihibesides Him
لَاlānot
يَسْتَجِيبُونَyastajībūnathey respond
لَهُمlahumto them
بِشَىْءٍbishayinwith a thing
إِلَّاillāexcept
كَبَـٰسِطِkabāsiṭilike one who stretches
كَفَّيْهِkaffayhihis hands
إِلَىilātowards
ٱلْمَآءِl-māiwater
لِيَبْلُغَliyablughato reach
فَاهُfāhuhis mouth
وَمَاwamābut not
هُوَhuwait
بِبَـٰلِغِهِۦ ۚbibālighihireaches it
وَمَاwamāAnd not
دُعَآءُduʿāu(is) the supplication
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīna(of) the disbelievers
إِلَّاillābut
فِىfīin
ضَلَـٰلٍۢḍalālinerror

Translation

To Him (is) supplication (of) the truth And those whom they invoke besides Him besides Him not they respond to them with a thing except like one who stretches his hands towards water to reach his mouth but not it reaches it And not (is) the supplication (of) the disbelievers but in error

Verse 15

وَلِلَّهِwalillahiAnd to Allah
يَسْجُدُyasjuduprostrates
مَنmanwhoever
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth
طَوْعًۭاṭawʿanwillingly
وَكَرْهًۭاwakarhanor unwillingly
وَظِلَـٰلُهُمwaẓilāluhumand (so do) their shadows
بِٱلْغُدُوِّbil-ghuduwiin the mornings
وَٱلْـَٔاصَالِ ۩wal-āṣāliand in the afternoons

Translation

And to Allah prostrates whoever (is) in the heavens and the earth willingly or unwillingly and (so do) their shadows in the mornings and in the afternoons

Verse 16

قُلْqulSay
مَنmanWho
رَّبُّrabbu(is) the Lord
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth
قُلِquliSay
ٱللَّهُ ۚl-lahuAllah
قُلْqulSay
أَفَٱتَّخَذْتُمafa-ittakhadhtumHave you then taken
مِّنminfrom
دُونِهِۦٓdūnihibesides Him
أَوْلِيَآءَawliyāaprotectors
لَاlānot
يَمْلِكُونَyamlikūnathey have power
لِأَنفُسِهِمْli-anfusihimfor themselves
نَفْعًۭاnafʿan(to) benefit
وَلَاwalāand not
ضَرًّۭا ۚḍarran(to) harm
قُلْqulSay
هَلْhalIs
يَسْتَوِىyastawīequal
ٱلْأَعْمَىٰl-aʿmāthe blind
وَٱلْبَصِيرُwal-baṣīruand the seeing
أَمْamOr
هَلْhalis
تَسْتَوِىtastawīequal
ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتُl-ẓulumātuthe darkness[es]
وَٱلنُّورُ ۗwal-nūruand the light
أَمْamOr
جَعَلُوا۟jaʿalūthey attribute
لِلَّهِlillahito Allah
شُرَكَآءَshurakāapartners
خَلَقُوا۟khalaqūwho created
كَخَلْقِهِۦkakhalqihilike His creation
فَتَشَـٰبَهَfatashābahaso that seemed alike
ٱلْخَلْقُl-khalquthe creation
عَلَيْهِمْ ۚʿalayhimto them
قُلِquliSay
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
خَـٰلِقُkhāliqu(is) the Creator
كُلِّkulliof all
شَىْءٍۢshayinthings
وَهُوَwahuwaand He
ٱلْوَٰحِدُl-wāḥidu(is) the One
ٱلْقَهَّـٰرُl-qahāruthe Irresistible

Translation

Say Who (is) the Lord (of) the heavens and the earth Say Allah Say Have you then taken from besides Him protectors not they have power for themselves (to) benefit and not (to) harm Say Is equal the blind and the seeing Or is equal the darkness[es] and the light Or they attribute to Allah partners who created like His creation so that seemed alike the creation to them Say Allah (is) the Creator of all things and He (is) the One the Irresistible

Verse 17

أَنزَلَanzalaHe sends down
مِنَminafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe sky
مَآءًۭmāanwater
فَسَالَتْfasālatand flows
أَوْدِيَةٌۢawdiyatunthe valleys
بِقَدَرِهَاbiqadarihāaccording to their measure
فَٱحْتَمَلَfa-iḥ'tamalaand carries
ٱلسَّيْلُl-sayluthe torrent
زَبَدًۭاzabadana foam
رَّابِيًۭا ۚrābiyanrising
وَمِمَّاwamimmāAnd from what
يُوقِدُونَyūqidūnathey heat
عَلَيْهِʿalayhi[on] it
فِىfīin
ٱلنَّارِl-nārithe fire
ٱبْتِغَآءَib'tighāain order to make
حِلْيَةٍḥil'yatinornaments
أَوْawor
مَتَـٰعٍۢmatāʿinutensils
زَبَدٌۭzabaduna foam
مِّثْلُهُۥ ۚmith'luhulike it
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
يَضْرِبُyaḍribusets forth
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
ٱلْحَقَّl-ḥaqathe truth
وَٱلْبَـٰطِلَ ۚwal-bāṭilaand the falsehood
فَأَمَّاfa-ammāThen as for
ٱلزَّبَدُl-zabaduthe foam
فَيَذْهَبُfayadhhabuit passes away
جُفَآءًۭ ۖjufāan(as) scum
وَأَمَّاwa-ammāand as for
مَاmāwhat
يَنفَعُyanfaʿubenefits
ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsathe mankind
فَيَمْكُثُfayamkuthuremains
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚl-arḍithe earth
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
يَضْرِبُyaḍribuAllah sets forth
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah sets forth
ٱلْأَمْثَالَl-amthālathe examples

Translation

He sends down from the sky water and flows the valleys according to their measure and carries the torrent a foam rising And from what they heat [on] it in the fire in order to make ornaments or utensils a foam like it Thus sets forth Allah the truth and the falsehood Then as for the foam it passes away (as) scum and as for what benefits the mankind remains in the earth Thus Allah sets forth Allah sets forth the examples

Verse 18

لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnaFor those who
ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟is'tajābūresponded
لِرَبِّهِمُlirabbihimuto their Lord
ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚl-ḥus'nā(is) the bliss
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd for those who
لَمْlam(did) not
يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟yastajībūrespond
لَهُۥlahuto Him
لَوْlawif
أَنَّannathat
لَهُمlahumthey had
مَّاmāwhatever
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
جَمِيعًۭاjamīʿanall
وَمِثْلَهُۥwamith'lahuand like of it
مَعَهُۥmaʿahuwith it
لَٱفْتَدَوْا۟la-if'tadawsurely they would offer ransom
بِهِۦٓ ۚbihiwith it
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose
لَهُمْlahumfor them
سُوٓءُsūu(is) a terrible
ٱلْحِسَابِl-ḥisābireckoning
وَمَأْوَىٰهُمْwamawāhumand their abode
جَهَنَّمُ ۖjahannamu(is) Hell
وَبِئْسَwabi'saand wretched
ٱلْمِهَادُl-mihādu(is) the resting place

Translation

For those who responded to their Lord (is) the bliss And for those who (did) not respond to Him if that they had whatever (is) in the earth all and like of it with it surely they would offer ransom with it Those for them (is) a terrible reckoning and their abode (is) Hell and wretched (is) the resting place

Verse 19

۞ أَفَمَنafamanThen is (he) who
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknows
أَنَّمَآannamāthat which
أُنزِلَunzilahas been revealed
إِلَيْكَilaykato you
مِنminfrom
رَّبِّكَrabbikayour Lord
ٱلْحَقُّl-ḥaqu(is) the truth
كَمَنْkamanlike (one) who
هُوَhuwa[he]
أَعْمَىٰٓ ۚaʿmā(is) blind
إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
يَتَذَكَّرُyatadhakkarupay heed
أُو۟لُوا۟ulūmen
ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِl-albābi(of) understanding

Translation

Then is (he) who knows that which has been revealed to you from your Lord (is) the truth like (one) who [he] (is) blind Only pay heed men (of) understanding

Verse 20

ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose who
يُوفُونَyūfūnafulfill
بِعَهْدِbiʿahdithe covenant
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
وَلَاwalāand not
يَنقُضُونَyanquḍūnathey break
ٱلْمِيثَـٰقَl-mīthāqathe contract

Translation

Those who fulfill the covenant (of) Allah and not they break the contract

Verse 21

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
يَصِلُونَyaṣilūnajoin
مَآmāwhat
أَمَرَamara(has been) commanded
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allah
بِهِۦٓbihi[for it]
أَنanto
يُوصَلَyūṣalabe joined
وَيَخْشَوْنَwayakhshawnaand fear
رَبَّهُمْrabbahumtheir Lord
وَيَخَافُونَwayakhāfūnaand are afraid
سُوٓءَsūa(of) the evil
ٱلْحِسَابِl-ḥisābithe account

Translation

And those who join what (has been) commanded (by) Allah [for it] to be joined and fear their Lord and are afraid (of) the evil the account

Verse 22

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
صَبَرُوا۟ṣabarū(are) patient
ٱبْتِغَآءَib'tighāaseeking
وَجْهِwajhi(the) Face
رَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) their Lord
وَأَقَامُوا۟wa-aqāmūand establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَl-ṣalatathe prayer
وَأَنفَقُوا۟wa-anfaqūand spend
مِمَّاmimmāfrom what
رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْrazaqnāhumWe have provided them
سِرًّۭاsirransecretly
وَعَلَانِيَةًۭwaʿalāniyatanand publicly
وَيَدْرَءُونَwayadraūnaand they repel
بِٱلْحَسَنَةِbil-ḥasanatiwith the good
ٱلسَّيِّئَةَl-sayi-atathe evil
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikathose
لَهُمْlahumfor them
عُقْبَىʿuq'bā(is) the final attainment
ٱلدَّارِl-dāri(of) the Home

Translation

And those who (are) patient seeking (the) Face (of) their Lord and establish the prayer and spend from what We have provided them secretly and publicly and they repel with the good the evil those for them (is) the final attainment (of) the Home

Verse 23

جَنَّـٰتُjannātuGardens
عَدْنٍۢʿadninof Eden
يَدْخُلُونَهَاyadkhulūnahāthey will enter them
وَمَنwamanand whoever
صَلَحَṣalaḥa(were) righteous
مِنْminamong
ءَابَآئِهِمْābāihimtheir fathers
وَأَزْوَٰجِهِمْwa-azwājihimand their spouses
وَذُرِّيَّـٰتِهِمْ ۖwadhurriyyātihimand their offsprings
وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُwal-malāikatuAnd the Angels
يَدْخُلُونَyadkhulūnawill enter
عَلَيْهِمʿalayhimupon them
مِّنminfrom
كُلِّkullievery
بَابٍۢbābingate

Translation

Gardens of Eden they will enter them and whoever (were) righteous among their fathers and their spouses and their offsprings And the Angels will enter upon them from every gate

Verse 24

سَلَـٰمٌsalāmun(Saying), "Peace
عَلَيْكُمʿalaykum(be) upon you
بِمَاbimāfor what
صَبَرْتُمْ ۚṣabartumyou patiently endured
فَنِعْمَfaniʿ'maAnd excellent
عُقْبَىʿuq'bā(is) the final attainment
ٱلدَّارِl-dāri(of) the Home

Translation

(Saying), "Peace (be) upon you for what you patiently endured And excellent (is) the final attainment (of) the Home

Verse 25

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
يَنقُضُونَyanquḍūnabreak
عَهْدَʿahdathe covenant
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
مِنۢminfrom
بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
مِيثَـٰقِهِۦmīthāqihicontracting it
وَيَقْطَعُونَwayaqṭaʿūnaand sever
مَآmāwhat
أَمَرَamara(has been) commanded
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allah
بِهِۦٓbihifor it
أَنanto
يُوصَلَyūṣalabe joined
وَيُفْسِدُونَwayuf'sidūnaand spread corruption
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۙl-arḍithe earth
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose
لَهُمُlahumufor them
ٱللَّعْنَةُl-laʿnatu(is) the curse
وَلَهُمْwalahumand for them
سُوٓءُsūu(is) an evil
ٱلدَّارِl-dārihome

Translation

And those who break the covenant (of) Allah from after contracting it and sever what (has been) commanded (by) Allah for it to be joined and spread corruption in the earth Those for them (is) the curse and for them (is) an evil home

Verse 26

ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllah
يَبْسُطُyabsuṭuextends
ٱلرِّزْقَl-riz'qathe provision
لِمَنlimanfor whom
يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
وَيَقْدِرُ ۚwayaqdiruand restricts
وَفَرِحُوا۟wafariḥūAnd they rejoice
بِٱلْحَيَوٰةِbil-ḥayatiin the life
ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the world
وَمَاwamāand nothing
ٱلْحَيَوٰةُl-ḥayatu(is) the life
ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāof the world
فِىfīin (comparison to)
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhiratithe Hereafter
إِلَّاillāexcept
مَتَـٰعٌۭmatāʿunan enjoyment

Translation

Allah extends the provision for whom He wills and restricts And they rejoice in the life (of) the world and nothing (is) the life of the world in (comparison to) the Hereafter except an enjoyment

Verse 27

وَيَقُولُwayaqūluAnd say
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
لَوْلَآlawlāWhy has not
أُنزِلَunzilabeen sent down
عَلَيْهِʿalayhiupon him
ءَايَةٌۭāyatuna Sign
مِّنminfrom
رَّبِّهِۦ ۗrabbihihis Lord
قُلْqulSay
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يُضِلُّyuḍillulets go astray
مَنmanwhom
يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
وَيَهْدِىٓwayahdīand guides
إِلَيْهِilayhito Himself
مَنْmanwhoever
أَنَابَanābaturns back

Translation

And say those who disbelieved Why has not been sent down upon him a Sign from his Lord Say Indeed Allah lets go astray whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back

Verse 28

ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieved
وَتَطْمَئِنُّwataṭma-innuand find satisfaction
قُلُوبُهُمqulūbuhumtheir hearts
بِذِكْرِbidhik'riin the remembrance
ٱللَّهِ ۗl-lahi(of) Allah
أَلَاalāNo doubt
بِذِكْرِbidhik'riin the remembrance
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
تَطْمَئِنُّtaṭma-innufind satisfaction
ٱلْقُلُوبُl-qulūbuthe hearts

Translation

Those who believed and find satisfaction their hearts in the remembrance (of) Allah No doubt in the remembrance (of) Allah find satisfaction the hearts

Verse 29

ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieved
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand did
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
طُوبَىٰṭūbāblessedness
لَهُمْlahum(is) for them
وَحُسْنُwaḥus'nuand a beautiful
مَـَٔابٍۢmaābinplace of return

Translation

Those who believed and did righteous deeds blessedness (is) for them and a beautiful place of return

Verse 30

كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَarsalnākaWe have sent you
فِىٓfīto
أُمَّةٍۢummatina nation
قَدْqadverily
خَلَتْkhalathave passed away
مِنminfrom
قَبْلِهَآqablihābefore it
أُمَمٌۭumamunnations
لِّتَتْلُوَا۟litatluwāso that you might recite
عَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimuto them
ٱلَّذِىٓalladhīwhat
أَوْحَيْنَآawḥaynāWe revealed
إِلَيْكَilaykato you
وَهُمْwahumwhile they
يَكْفُرُونَyakfurūnadisbelieve
بِٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۚbil-raḥmāniin the Most Gracious
قُلْqulSay
هُوَhuwaHe
رَبِّىrabbī(is) my Lord
لَآlā(there is) no
إِلَـٰهَilāhagod
إِلَّاillāexcept
هُوَhuwaHim
عَلَيْهِʿalayhiUpon Him
تَوَكَّلْتُtawakkaltuI put my trust
وَإِلَيْهِwa-ilayhiand to Him
مَتَابِmatābi(is) my return

Translation

Thus We have sent you to a nation verily have passed away from before it nations so that you might recite to them what We revealed to you while they disbelieve in the Most Gracious Say He (is) my Lord (there is) no god except Him Upon Him I put my trust and to Him (is) my return

Verse 31

وَلَوْwalawAnd if
أَنَّannathat was
قُرْءَانًۭاqur'ānanany Quran
سُيِّرَتْsuyyiratcould be moved
بِهِbihiby it
ٱلْجِبَالُl-jibāluthe mountains
أَوْawor
قُطِّعَتْquṭṭiʿatcould be cloven asunder
بِهِbihiby it
ٱلْأَرْضُl-arḍuthe earth
أَوْawor
كُلِّمَkullimacould be made to speak
بِهِbihiby it
ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ ۗl-mawtāthe dead
بَلbalNay
لِّلَّهِlillahiwith Allah
ٱلْأَمْرُl-amru(is) the command
جَمِيعًا ۗjamīʿanall
أَفَلَمْafalamThen do not
يَا۟يْـَٔسِyāy'asiknow
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوٓا۟āmanūbelieve
أَنanthat
لَّوْlawif
يَشَآءُyashāuhad willed
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
لَهَدَىlahadāsurely, He would have guided
ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsaall
جَمِيعًۭا ۗjamīʿanall of the mankind
وَلَاwalāAnd not
يَزَالُyazāluwill cease
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
تُصِيبُهُمtuṣībuhumto strike them
بِمَاbimāfor what
صَنَعُوا۟ṣanaʿūthey did
قَارِعَةٌqāriʿatuna disaster
أَوْawor
تَحُلُّtaḥulluit settles
قَرِيبًۭاqarībanclose
مِّنminfrom
دَارِهِمْdārihimtheir homes
حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
يَأْتِىَyatiyacomes
وَعْدُwaʿdu(the) promise
ٱللَّهِ ۚl-lahi(of) Allah
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لَاlā(will) not
يُخْلِفُyukh'lifufail
ٱلْمِيعَادَl-mīʿāda(in) the Promise

Translation

And if that was any Quran could be moved by it the mountains or could be cloven asunder by it the earth or could be made to speak by it the dead Nay with Allah (is) the command all Then do not know those who believe that if had willed Allah surely, He would have guided all all of the mankind And not will cease those who disbelieve to strike them for what they did a disaster or it settles close from their homes until comes (the) promise (of) Allah Indeed Allah (will) not fail (in) the Promise

Verse 32

وَلَقَدِwalaqadiAnd certainly
ٱسْتُهْزِئَus'tuh'zi-awere mocked
بِرُسُلٍۢbirusulinMessengers
مِّنminfrom
قَبْلِكَqablikabefore you
فَأَمْلَيْتُfa-amlaytubut I granted respite
لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
ثُمَّthummathen
أَخَذْتُهُمْ ۖakhadhtuhumI seized them
فَكَيْفَfakayfaand how
كَانَkānawas
عِقَابِʿiqābiMy penalty

Translation

And certainly were mocked Messengers from before you but I granted respite to those who disbelieved then I seized them and how was My penalty

Verse 33

أَفَمَنْafamanIs then He Who
هُوَhuwa(He)
قَآئِمٌqāimun(is) a Maintainer
عَلَىٰʿalāof
كُلِّkullievery
نَفْسٍۭnafsinsoul
بِمَاbimāfor what
كَسَبَتْ ۗkasabatit has earned
وَجَعَلُوا۟wajaʿalūYet they ascribe
لِلَّهِlillahito Allah
شُرَكَآءَshurakāapartners
قُلْqulSay
سَمُّوهُمْ ۚsammūhumName them
أَمْamOr
تُنَبِّـُٔونَهُۥtunabbiūnahu(do) you inform Him
بِمَاbimāof what
لَاlānot
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuHe knows
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
أَمamor
بِظَـٰهِرٍۢbiẓāhirinof the apparent
مِّنَminaof
ٱلْقَوْلِ ۗl-qawlithe words
بَلْbalNay
زُيِّنَzuyyina(is) made fair-seeming
لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
مَكْرُهُمْmakruhumtheir plotting
وَصُدُّوا۟waṣuddūand they are hindered
عَنِʿanifrom
ٱلسَّبِيلِ ۗl-sabīlithe Path
وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
يُضْلِلِyuḍ'lili(by) Allah
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah lets go astray
فَمَاfamāthen not
لَهُۥlahufor him
مِنْminany
هَادٍۢhādinguide

Translation

Is then He Who (He) (is) a Maintainer of every soul for what it has earned Yet they ascribe to Allah partners Say Name them Or (do) you inform Him of what not He knows in the earth or of the apparent of the words Nay (is) made fair-seeming to those who disbelieve their plotting and they are hindered from the Path And whoever (by) Allah Allah lets go astray then not for him any guide

Verse 34

لَّهُمْlahumFor them
عَذَابٌۭʿadhābun(is) a punishment
فِىfīin
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِl-ḥayatithe life
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖl-dun'yā(of) the world
وَلَعَذَابُwalaʿadhābuand surely the punishment
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhirati(of) the Hereafter
أَشَقُّ ۖashaqqu(is) harder
وَمَاwamāAnd not
لَهُمlahumfor them
مِّنَminaagainst
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
مِنminany
وَاقٍۢwāqindefender

Translation

For them (is) a punishment in the life (of) the world and surely the punishment (of) the Hereafter (is) harder And not for them against Allah any defender

Verse 35

۞ مَّثَلُmathaluThe example
ٱلْجَنَّةِl-janatiof Paradise
ٱلَّتِىallatīwhich
وُعِدَwuʿida(is) promised
ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ ۖl-mutaqūna(to) the righteous
تَجْرِىtajrīflows
مِنminfrom
تَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath it
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖl-anhāruthe rivers
أُكُلُهَاukuluhāIts food
دَآئِمٌۭdāimun(is) everlasting
وَظِلُّهَا ۚwaẓilluhāand its shade
تِلْكَtil'kaThis
عُقْبَىʿuq'bā(is the) end
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaof those who
ٱتَّقَوا۟ ۖittaqaw(are) righteous
وَّعُقْبَىwaʿuq'bāand (the) end
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīna(of) the disbelievers
ٱلنَّارُl-nāru(is) the Fire

Translation

The example of Paradise which (is) promised (to) the righteous flows from underneath it the rivers Its food (is) everlasting and its shade This (is the) end of those who (are) righteous and (the) end (of) the disbelievers (is) the Fire

Verse 36

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those (to) whom
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُātaynāhumuWe have given them
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
يَفْرَحُونَyafraḥūnarejoice
بِمَآbimāat what
أُنزِلَunzilahas been revealed
إِلَيْكَ ۖilaykato you
وَمِنَwaminabut among
ٱلْأَحْزَابِl-aḥzābithe groups
مَنman(those) who
يُنكِرُyunkirudeny
بَعْضَهُۥ ۚbaʿḍahua part of it
قُلْqulSay
إِنَّمَآinnamāOnly
أُمِرْتُumir'tuI have been commanded
أَنْanthat
أَعْبُدَaʿbudaI worship
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
وَلَآwalāand not
أُشْرِكَush'rikaI associate partners
بِهِۦٓ ۚbihiwith Him
إِلَيْهِilayhiTo Him
أَدْعُوا۟adʿūI call
وَإِلَيْهِwa-ilayhiand to Him
مَـَٔابِmaābi(is) my return

Translation

And those (to) whom We have given them the Book rejoice at what has been revealed to you but among the groups (those) who deny a part of it Say Only I have been commanded that I worship Allah and not I associate partners with Him To Him I call and to Him (is) my return

Verse 37

وَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhālikaAnd thus
أَنزَلْنَـٰهُanzalnāhuWe have revealed it
حُكْمًاḥuk'man(to be) a judgment of authority
عَرَبِيًّۭا ۚʿarabiyyan(in) Arabic
وَلَئِنِwala-iniAnd if
ٱتَّبَعْتَittabaʿtayou follow
أَهْوَآءَهُمahwāahumtheir desires
بَعْدَ مَاbaʿdamāafter what
جَآءَكَjāakacame to you
مِنَminaof
ٱلْعِلْمِl-ʿil'mithe knowledge
مَاmānot
لَكَlakafor you
مِنَminaagainst
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
مِنminany
وَلِىٍّۢwaliyyinprotector
وَلَاwalāand not
وَاقٍۢwāqindefender

Translation

And thus We have revealed it (to be) a judgment of authority (in) Arabic And if you follow their desires after what came to you of the knowledge not for you against Allah any protector and not defender

Verse 38

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainly
أَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sent
رُسُلًۭاrusulanMessengers
مِّنminfrom
قَبْلِكَqablikabefore you
وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāand We made
لَهُمْlahumfor them
أَزْوَٰجًۭاazwājanwives
وَذُرِّيَّةًۭ ۚwadhurriyyatanand offspring
وَمَاwamāAnd not
كَانَkānawas
لِرَسُولٍlirasūlinfor a Messenger
أَنanthat
يَأْتِىَyatiyahe comes
بِـَٔايَةٍbiāyatinwith a sign
إِلَّاillāexcept
بِإِذْنِbi-idh'niby the leave
ٱللَّهِ ۗl-lahi(of) Allah
لِكُلِّlikulliFor everything
أَجَلٍۢajalin(is) a time
كِتَابٌۭkitābunprescribed

Translation

And certainly We sent Messengers from before you and We made for them wives and offspring And not was for a Messenger that he comes with a sign except by the leave (of) Allah For everything (is) a time prescribed

Verse 39

يَمْحُوا۟yamḥū(Is) eliminated
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allah
مَاmāwhat
يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
وَيُثْبِتُ ۖwayuth'bituand confirms
وَعِندَهُۥٓwaʿindahuand with Him
أُمُّummu(is) the Mother (of) the Book
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(is) the Mother (of) the Book

Translation

(Is) eliminated (by) Allah what He wills and confirms and with Him (is) the Mother (of) the Book (is) the Mother (of) the Book

Verse 40

وَإِنwa-inAnd whether
مَّاmā(what)
نُرِيَنَّكَnuriyannakaWe show you
بَعْضَbaʿḍaa part
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(of) what
نَعِدُهُمْnaʿiduhumWe have promised them
أَوْawor
نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَnatawaffayannakaWe cause you to die
فَإِنَّمَاfa-innamāso only
عَلَيْكَʿalaykaon you
ٱلْبَلَـٰغُl-balāghu(is) the conveyance
وَعَلَيْنَاwaʿalaynāand on Us
ٱلْحِسَابُl-ḥisābu(is) the reckoning

Translation

And whether (what) We show you a part (of) what We have promised them or We cause you to die so only on you (is) the conveyance and on Us (is) the reckoning

Verse 41

أَوَلَمْawalamDid not
يَرَوْا۟yarawthey see
أَنَّاannāthat We
نَأْتِىnatīcome
ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍa(to) the land
نَنقُصُهَاnanquṣuhāreducing it
مِنْminfrom
أَطْرَافِهَا ۚaṭrāfihāits borders
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
يَحْكُمُyaḥkumujudges
لَاlā(there is) no
مُعَقِّبَmuʿaqqibaadjuster
لِحُكْمِهِۦ ۚliḥuk'mihi(of) His Judgment
وَهُوَwahuwaAnd He
سَرِيعُsarīʿu(is) Swift
ٱلْحِسَابِl-ḥisābi(in) the reckoning

Translation

Did not they see that We come (to) the land reducing it from its borders And Allah judges (there is) no adjuster (of) His Judgment And He (is) Swift (in) the reckoning

Verse 42

وَقَدْwaqadAnd certainly
مَكَرَmakaraplotted
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
مِنmin(were) from
قَبْلِهِمْqablihimbefore them
فَلِلَّهِfalillahibut for Allah
ٱلْمَكْرُl-makru(is) the plot
جَمِيعًۭا ۖjamīʿanall
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuHe knows
مَاmāwhat
تَكْسِبُtaksibuearns
كُلُّkulluevery
نَفْسٍۢ ۗnafsinsoul
وَسَيَعْلَمُwasayaʿlamuand will know
ٱلْكُفَّـٰرُl-kufāruthe disbelievers
لِمَنْlimanfor whom
عُقْبَىʿuq'bā(is) the final
ٱلدَّارِl-dārithe home

Translation

And certainly plotted those who (were) from before them but for Allah (is) the plot all He knows what earns every soul and will know the disbelievers for whom (is) the final the home

Verse 43

وَيَقُولُwayaqūluAnd say
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
لَسْتَlastaYou are not
مُرْسَلًۭا ۚmur'salana Messenger
قُلْqulSay
كَفَىٰkafāSufficient
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahi(is) Allah
شَهِيدًۢاshahīdan(as) a Witness
بَيْنِىbaynībetween me
وَبَيْنَكُمْwabaynakumand between you
وَمَنْwamanand whoever
عِندَهُۥʿindahu[he] has
عِلْمُʿil'muknowledge
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book

Translation

And say those who disbelieve You are not a Messenger Say Sufficient (is) Allah (as) a Witness between me and between you and whoever [he] has knowledge (of) the Book
