Chapter 14Meccan52 Verses

Verse 1

الٓر ۚalif-lam-raAlif Laam Ra
كِتَـٰبٌkitābunA Book
أَنزَلْنَـٰهُanzalnāhuwhich We have revealed
إِلَيْكَilaykato you
لِتُخْرِجَlitukh'rijaso that you may bring out
ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsathe mankind
مِنَminafrom
ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِl-ẓulumātithe darkness[es]
إِلَىilāto
ٱلنُّورِl-nūrithe light
بِإِذْنِbi-idh'niby the permission
رَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) their Lord
إِلَىٰilāto
صِرَٰطِṣirāṭithe Path
ٱلْعَزِيزِl-ʿazīzi(of) the All-Mighty
ٱلْحَمِيدِl-ḥamīdithe Praiseworthy

Translation

Alif Laam Ra A Book which We have revealed to you so that you may bring out the mankind from the darkness[es] to the light by the permission (of) their Lord to the Path (of) the All-Mighty the Praiseworthy

Verse 2

ٱللَّهِal-lahiAllah
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One
لَهُۥlahuto Him (belongs)
مَاmāwhatever
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَمَاwamāand whatever
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗl-arḍithe earth
وَوَيْلٌۭwawaylunAnd woe
لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَlil'kāfirīnato the disbelievers
مِنْminfrom
عَذَابٍۢʿadhābinthe punishment
شَدِيدٍshadīdinsevere

Translation

Allah (is) the One to Him (belongs) whatever (is) in the heavens and whatever (is) in the earth And woe to the disbelievers from the punishment severe

Verse 3

ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose who
يَسْتَحِبُّونَyastaḥibbūnalove more
ٱلْحَيَوٰةَl-ḥayatathe life
ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the world
عَلَىʿalāthan
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhiratithe Hereafter
وَيَصُدُّونَwayaṣuddūnaand hinder
عَنʿanfrom
سَبِيلِsabīli(the) Path
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
وَيَبْغُونَهَاwayabghūnahāand seek in it
عِوَجًا ۚʿiwajancrookedness
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikathose
فِىfī[in]
ضَلَـٰلٍۭḍalālin(are) far astray
بَعِيدٍۢbaʿīdin(are) far astray

Translation

Those who love more the life (of) the world than the Hereafter and hinder from (the) Path (of) Allah and seek in it crookedness those [in] (are) far astray (are) far astray

Verse 4

وَمَآwamāAnd not
أَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sent
مِنminany
رَّسُولٍrasūlinMessenger
إِلَّاillāexcept
بِلِسَانِbilisāniwith the language
قَوْمِهِۦqawmihi(of) his people
لِيُبَيِّنَliyubayyinaso that he might make clear
لَهُمْ ۖlahumfor them
فَيُضِلُّfayuḍilluThen Allah lets go astray
ٱللَّهُl-lahuThen Allah lets go astray
مَنmanwhom
يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
وَيَهْدِىwayahdīand guides
مَنmanwhom
يَشَآءُ ۚyashāuHe wills
وَهُوَwahuwaAnd He
ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzu(is) the All-Mighty
ٱلْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuthe All-Wise

Translation

And not We sent any Messenger except with the language (of) his people so that he might make clear for them Then Allah lets go astray Then Allah lets go astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills And He (is) the All-Mighty the All-Wise

Verse 5

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd verily
أَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sent
مُوسَىٰmūsāMusa
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآbiāyātināwith Our Signs
أَنْanthat
أَخْرِجْakhrijBring out
قَوْمَكَqawmakayour people
مِنَminafrom
ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِl-ẓulumātithe darkness[es]
إِلَىilāto
ٱلنُّورِl-nūrithe light
وَذَكِّرْهُمwadhakkir'humAnd remind them
بِأَيَّىٰمِbi-ayyāmiof the days
ٱللَّهِ ۚl-lahi(of) Allah
إِنَّinnaIndeed
فِىfīin
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢlaāyātinsurely (are) the signs
لِّكُلِّlikullifor everyone
صَبَّارٍۢṣabbārinpatient
شَكُورٍۢshakūrinand thankful

Translation

And verily We sent Musa with Our Signs that Bring out your people from the darkness[es] to the light And remind them of the days (of) Allah Indeed in that surely (are) the signs for everyone patient and thankful

Verse 6

وَإِذْwa-idhAnd when
قَالَqālasaid
مُوسَىٰmūsāMusa
لِقَوْمِهِliqawmihito his people
ٱذْكُرُوا۟udh'kurūRemember
نِعْمَةَniʿ'mata(the) Favor of Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(the) Favor of Allah
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon you
إِذْidhwhen
أَنجَىٰكُمanjākumHe saved you
مِّنْminfrom
ءَالِāli(the) people
فِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawna(of) Firaun
يَسُومُونَكُمْyasūmūnakumthey were afflicting you
سُوٓءَsūa(with) evil
ٱلْعَذَابِl-ʿadhābitorment
وَيُذَبِّحُونَwayudhabbiḥūnaand were slaughtering
أَبْنَآءَكُمْabnāakumyour sons
وَيَسْتَحْيُونَwayastaḥyūnaand letting live
نِسَآءَكُمْ ۚnisāakumyour women
وَفِىwafīAnd in
ذَٰلِكُمdhālikumthat
بَلَآءٌۭbalāon(was) a trial
مِّنminfrom
رَّبِّكُمْrabbikumyour Lord
عَظِيمٌۭʿaẓīmungreat

Translation

And when said Musa to his people Remember (the) Favor of Allah (the) Favor of Allah upon you when He saved you from (the) people (of) Firaun they were afflicting you (with) evil torment and were slaughtering your sons and letting live your women And in that (was) a trial from your Lord great

Verse 7

وَإِذْwa-idhAnd when
تَأَذَّنَta-adhanaproclaimed
رَبُّكُمْrabbukumyour Lord
لَئِنla-inIf
شَكَرْتُمْshakartumyou are thankful
لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ ۖla-azīdannakumsurely I will increase you
وَلَئِنwala-inbut if
كَفَرْتُمْkafartumyou are ungrateful
إِنَّinnaindeed
عَذَابِىʿadhābīMy punishment
لَشَدِيدٌۭlashadīdun(is) surely severe

Translation

And when proclaimed your Lord If you are thankful surely I will increase you but if you are ungrateful indeed My punishment (is) surely severe

Verse 8

وَقَالَwaqālaAnd said
مُوسَىٰٓmūsāMusa
إِنinIf
تَكْفُرُوٓا۟takfurūyou disbelieve
أَنتُمْantumyou
وَمَنwamanand whoever
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
جَمِيعًۭاjamīʿanall
فَإِنَّfa-innathen indeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لَغَنِىٌّlaghaniyyuncertainly (is) Free of need
حَمِيدٌḥamīdunPraiseworthy

Translation

And said Musa If you disbelieve you and whoever (is) in the earth all then indeed Allah certainly (is) Free of need Praiseworthy

Verse 9

أَلَمْalamHas not
يَأْتِكُمْyatikumcome to you
نَبَؤُا۟naba-u(the) news
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those who
مِنmin(were) before you
قَبْلِكُمْqablikum(were) before you
قَوْمِqawmithe people
نُوحٍۢnūḥinof Nuh
وَعَادٍۢwaʿādinand Aad
وَثَمُودَ ۛwathamūdaand Thamud
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those who
مِنۢmin(were) after them
بَعْدِهِمْ ۛbaʿdihim(were) after them
لَاlāNone
يَعْلَمُهُمْyaʿlamuhumknows them
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱللَّهُ ۚl-lahuAllah
جَآءَتْهُمْjāathumCame to them
رُسُلُهُمrusuluhumtheir Messengers
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِbil-bayinātiwith clear proofs
فَرَدُّوٓا۟faraddūbut they returned
أَيْدِيَهُمْaydiyahumtheir hands
فِىٓfīin
أَفْوَٰهِهِمْafwāhihimtheir mouths
وَقَالُوٓا۟waqālūand they said
إِنَّاinnāIndeed we
كَفَرْنَاkafarnā[we] disbelieve
بِمَآbimāin what
أُرْسِلْتُمur'sil'tumyou have been sent
بِهِۦbihiwith [it]
وَإِنَّاwa-innāand indeed, we
لَفِىlafī(are) surely in
شَكٍّۢshakkindoubt
مِّمَّاmimmāabout what
تَدْعُونَنَآtadʿūnanāyou invite us
إِلَيْهِilayhito it
مُرِيبٍۢmurībinsuspicious

Translation

Has not come to you (the) news (of) those who (were) before you (were) before you the people of Nuh and Aad and Thamud and those who (were) after them (were) after them None knows them except Allah Came to them their Messengers with clear proofs but they returned their hands in their mouths and they said Indeed we [we] disbelieve in what you have been sent with [it] and indeed, we (are) surely in doubt about what you invite us to it suspicious

Verse 10

۞ قَالَتْqālatSaid
رُسُلُهُمْrusuluhumtheir Messengers
أَفِىafīCan (there) be about
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
شَكٌّۭshakkunany doubt
فَاطِرِfāṭiri(the) Creator
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖwal-arḍiand the earth
يَدْعُوكُمْyadʿūkumHe invites you
لِيَغْفِرَliyaghfiraso that He may forgive
لَكُمlakumfor you
مِّنmin[of]
ذُنُوبِكُمْdhunūbikumyour sins
وَيُؤَخِّرَكُمْwayu-akhirakumand give you respite
إِلَىٰٓilāfor
أَجَلٍۢajalina term
مُّسَمًّۭى ۚmusammanappointed
قَالُوٓا۟qālūThey said
إِنْinNot
أَنتُمْantumyou
إِلَّاillā(are) but
بَشَرٌۭbasharuna human
مِّثْلُنَاmith'lunālike us
تُرِيدُونَturīdūnayou wish
أَنanto
تَصُدُّونَاtaṣuddūnāhinder us
عَمَّاʿammāfrom what
كَانَkānaused to
يَعْبُدُyaʿbuduworship
ءَابَآؤُنَاābāunāour forefathers
فَأْتُونَاfatūnāSo bring us
بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۢbisul'ṭāninan authority
مُّبِينٍۢmubīninclear

Translation

Said their Messengers Can (there) be about Allah any doubt (the) Creator (of) the heavens and the earth He invites you so that He may forgive for you [of] your sins and give you respite for a term appointed They said Not you (are) but a human like us you wish to hinder us from what used to worship our forefathers So bring us an authority clear

Verse 11

قَالَتْqālatSaid
لَهُمْlahumto them
رُسُلُهُمْrusuluhumtheir Messengers
إِنinNot
نَّحْنُnaḥnuwe (are)
إِلَّاillābut
بَشَرٌۭbasharuna human
مِّثْلُكُمْmith'lukumlike you
وَلَـٰكِنَّwalākinnabut
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يَمُنُّyamunnubestows His Grace
عَلَىٰʿalāon
مَنmanwhom
يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
مِنْminof
عِبَادِهِۦ ۖʿibādihiHis slaves
وَمَاwamāAnd not
كَانَkānais
لَنَآlanāfor us
أَنanthat
نَّأْتِيَكُمnatiyakumwe bring you
بِسُلْطَـٰنٍbisul'ṭāninan authority
إِلَّاillāexcept
بِإِذْنِbi-idh'niby the permission of Allah
ٱللَّهِ ۚl-lahiby the permission of Allah
وَعَلَىwaʿalāAnd upon
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِfalyatawakkaliso let put (their) trust
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَl-mu'minūnathe believers

Translation

Said to them their Messengers Not we (are) but a human like you but Allah bestows His Grace on whom He wills of His slaves And not is for us that we bring you an authority except by the permission of Allah by the permission of Allah And upon Allah so let put (their) trust the believers

Verse 12

وَمَاwamāAnd what
لَنَآlanā(is) for us
أَلَّاallāthat not
نَتَوَكَّلَnatawakkalawe put our trust
عَلَىʿalāupon
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
وَقَدْwaqadwhile certainly
هَدَىٰنَاhadānāHe has guided us
سُبُلَنَا ۚsubulanāto our ways
وَلَنَصْبِرَنَّwalanaṣbirannaAnd surely we will bear with patience
عَلَىٰʿalāon
مَآmāwhat
ءَاذَيْتُمُونَا ۚādhaytumūnāharm you may cause us
وَعَلَىwaʿalāAnd upon
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِfalyatawakkaliso let put (their) trust
ٱلْمُتَوَكِّلُونَl-mutawakilūnathe ones who put (their) trust

Translation

And what (is) for us that not we put our trust upon Allah while certainly He has guided us to our ways And surely we will bear with patience on what harm you may cause us And upon Allah so let put (their) trust the ones who put (their) trust

Verse 13

وَقَالَwaqālaAnd said
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
لِرُسُلِهِمْlirusulihimto their Messengers
لَنُخْرِجَنَّكُمlanukh'rijannakumSurely we will drive you out
مِّنْminof
أَرْضِنَآarḍināour land
أَوْawor
لَتَعُودُنَّlataʿūdunnasurely you should return
فِىfīto
مِلَّتِنَا ۖmillatināour religion
فَأَوْحَىٰٓfa-awḥāSo inspired
إِلَيْهِمْilayhimto them
رَبُّهُمْrabbuhumtheir Lord
لَنُهْلِكَنَّlanuh'likannaWe will surely destroy
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers

Translation

And said those who disbelieved to their Messengers Surely we will drive you out of our land or surely you should return to our religion So inspired to them their Lord We will surely destroy the wrongdoers

Verse 14

وَلَنُسْكِنَنَّكُمُwalanus'kinannakumuAnd surely We will make you dwell
ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍa(in) the land
مِنۢminafter them
بَعْدِهِمْ ۚbaʿdihimafter them
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
لِمَنْliman(is) for whoever
خَافَkhāfafears
مَقَامِىmaqāmīstanding before Me
وَخَافَwakhāfaand fears
وَعِيدِwaʿīdiMy Threat

Translation

And surely We will make you dwell (in) the land after them after them That (is) for whoever fears standing before Me and fears My Threat

Verse 15

وَٱسْتَفْتَحُوا۟wa-is'taftaḥūAnd they sought victory
وَخَابَwakhābaand disappointed
كُلُّkulluevery
جَبَّارٍjabbārintyrant
عَنِيدٍۢʿanīdinobstinate

Translation

And they sought victory and disappointed every tyrant obstinate

Verse 16

مِّنminof him
وَرَآئِهِۦwarāihiAhead
جَهَنَّمُjahannamu(is) Hell
وَيُسْقَىٰwayus'qāand he will be made to drink
مِنminof
مَّآءٍۢmāinwater
صَدِيدٍۢṣadīdinpurulent

Translation

of him Ahead (is) Hell and he will be made to drink of water purulent

Verse 17

يَتَجَرَّعُهُۥyatajarraʿuhuHe will sip it
وَلَاwalābut not
يَكَادُyakāduhe will be near
يُسِيغُهُۥyusīghuhu(to) swallowing it
وَيَأْتِيهِwayatīhiAnd will come to him
ٱلْمَوْتُl-mawtuthe death
مِنminfrom
كُلِّkullievery
مَكَانٍۢmakāninside
وَمَاwamābut not
هُوَhuwahe
بِمَيِّتٍۢ ۖbimayyitinwill die
وَمِنwaminAnd ahead of him
وَرَآئِهِۦwarāihiAnd ahead of him
عَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishment
غَلِيظٌۭghalīẓunharsh

Translation

He will sip it but not he will be near (to) swallowing it And will come to him the death from every side but not he will die And ahead of him And ahead of him (is) a punishment harsh

Verse 18

مَّثَلُmathalu(The) example
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
بِرَبِّهِمْ ۖbirabbihimin their Lord
أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْaʿmāluhumtheir deeds
كَرَمَادٍkaramādin(are) like ashes
ٱشْتَدَّتْish'taddatblows furiously
بِهِbihion it
ٱلرِّيحُl-rīḥuthe wind
فِىfīin
يَوْمٍyawmina day
عَاصِفٍۢ ۖʿāṣifinstormy
لَّاlāNo
يَقْدِرُونَyaqdirūnacontrol (they have)
مِمَّاmimmāof what
كَسَبُوا۟kasabūthey have earned
عَلَىٰʿalāon
شَىْءٍۢ ۚshayinanything
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
هُوَhuwa[it]
ٱلضَّلَـٰلُl-ḍalālu(is) the straying
ٱلْبَعِيدُl-baʿīdufar

Translation

(The) example (of) those who disbelieve in their Lord their deeds (are) like ashes blows furiously on it the wind in a day stormy No control (they have) of what they have earned on anything That [it] (is) the straying far

Verse 19

أَلَمْalamDo not
تَرَtarayou see
أَنَّannathat
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
خَلَقَkhalaqacreated
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earth
بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚbil-ḥaqiin truth
إِنinIf
يَشَأْyashaHe wills
يُذْهِبْكُمْyudh'hib'kumHe can remove you
وَيَأْتِwayatiand bring
بِخَلْقٍۢbikhalqina creation
جَدِيدٍۢjadīdinnew

Translation

Do not you see that Allah created the heavens and the earth in truth If He wills He can remove you and bring a creation new

Verse 20

وَمَاwamāAnd not
ذَٰلِكَdhālika(is) that
عَلَىʿalāon
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
بِعَزِيزٍۢbiʿazīzingreat

Translation

And not (is) that on Allah great

Verse 21

وَبَرَزُوا۟wabarazūAnd they will come forth
لِلَّهِlillahibefore Allah
جَمِيعًۭاjamīʿanall together
فَقَالَfaqālathen will say
ٱلضُّعَفَـٰٓؤُا۟l-ḍuʿafāuthe weak
لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those who
ٱسْتَكْبَرُوٓا۟is'takbarūwere arrogant
إِنَّاinnāIndeed we
كُنَّاkunnāwe were
لَكُمْlakumyour
تَبَعًۭاtabaʿanfollowers
فَهَلْfahalso can
أَنتُمantumyou (be)
مُّغْنُونَmugh'nūnathe one who avails
عَنَّاʿannāus
مِنْminfrom
عَذَابِʿadhābi(the) punishment
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
مِنminanything
شَىْءٍۢ ۚshayinanything
قَالُوا۟qālūThey will say
لَوْlawIf
هَدَىٰنَاhadānāAllah had guided us
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah had guided us
لَهَدَيْنَـٰكُمْ ۖlahadaynākumsurely we would have guided you
سَوَآءٌsawāon(It is) same
عَلَيْنَآʿalaynāfor us
أَجَزِعْنَآajaziʿ'nāwhether we show intolerance
أَمْamor
صَبَرْنَاṣabarnāwe are patient
مَاmānot
لَنَاlanā(is) for us
مِنminany
مَّحِيصٍۢmaḥīṣinplace of escape

Translation

And they will come forth before Allah all together then will say the weak to those who were arrogant Indeed we we were your followers so can you (be) the one who avails us from (the) punishment (of) Allah anything anything They will say If Allah had guided us Allah had guided us surely we would have guided you (It is) same for us whether we show intolerance or we are patient not (is) for us any place of escape

Verse 22

وَقَالَwaqālaAnd will say
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُl-shayṭānuthe Shaitaan
لَمَّاlammāwhen
قُضِىَquḍiyahas been decided
ٱلْأَمْرُl-amruthe matter
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
وَعَدَكُمْwaʿadakumpromised you
وَعْدَwaʿdaa promise
ٱلْحَقِّl-ḥaqi(of) truth
وَوَعَدتُّكُمْwawaʿadttukumAnd I promised you
فَأَخْلَفْتُكُمْ ۖfa-akhlaftukumbut I betrayed you
وَمَاwamāBut not
كَانَkānaI had
لِىَliyaI had
عَلَيْكُمʿalaykumover you
مِّنminany
سُلْطَـٰنٍsul'ṭāninauthority
إِلَّآillāexcept
أَنanthat
دَعَوْتُكُمْdaʿawtukumI invited you
فَٱسْتَجَبْتُمْfa-is'tajabtumand you responded
لِى ۖlīto me
فَلَاfalāSo (do) not
تَلُومُونِىtalūmūnīblame me
وَلُومُوٓا۟walūmūbut blame
أَنفُسَكُم ۖanfusakumyourselves
مَّآmāNot
أَنَا۠anā(can) I
بِمُصْرِخِكُمْbimuṣ'rikhikum(be) your helper
وَمَآwamāand not
أَنتُمantumyou (can)
بِمُصْرِخِىَّ ۖbimuṣ'rikhiyya(be) my helper
إِنِّىinnīIndeed, I
كَفَرْتُkafartudeny
بِمَآbimā[of what]
أَشْرَكْتُمُونِashraktumūniyour association of me (with Allah)
مِنminbefore
قَبْلُ ۗqablubefore
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
لَهُمْlahumfor them
عَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishment
أَلِيمٌۭalīmunpainful

Translation

And will say the Shaitaan when has been decided the matter Indeed Allah promised you a promise (of) truth And I promised you but I betrayed you But not I had I had over you any authority except that I invited you and you responded to me So (do) not blame me but blame yourselves Not (can) I (be) your helper and not you (can) (be) my helper Indeed, I deny [of what] your association of me (with Allah) before before Indeed the wrongdoers for them (is) a punishment painful

Verse 23

وَأُدْخِلَwa-ud'khilaAnd will be admitted
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieved
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand did
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
جَنَّـٰتٍۢjannātin(to) Gardens
تَجْرِىtajrīflows
مِنminfrom
تَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath it
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُl-anhāruthe rivers
خَـٰلِدِينَkhālidīna(will) abide forever
فِيهَاfīhāin it
بِإِذْنِbi-idh'niby the permission
رَبِّهِمْ ۖrabbihim(of) their Lord
تَحِيَّتُهُمْtaḥiyyatuhumtheir greetings
فِيهَاfīhātherein
سَلَـٰمٌsalāmun(will be) peace

Translation

And will be admitted those who believed and did righteous deeds (to) Gardens flows from underneath it the rivers (will) abide forever in it by the permission (of) their Lord their greetings therein (will be) peace

Verse 24

أَلَمْalamDo not
تَرَtarayou see
كَيْفَkayfahow
ضَرَبَḍarabaAllah sets forth
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah sets forth
مَثَلًۭاmathalanthe example
كَلِمَةًۭkalimatana word
طَيِّبَةًۭṭayyibatangood
كَشَجَرَةٍۢkashajaratin(is) like a tree
طَيِّبَةٍṭayyibatingood
أَصْلُهَاaṣluhāits root
ثَابِتٌۭthābitun(is) firm
وَفَرْعُهَاwafarʿuhāand its branches
فِىfī(are) in
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe sky

Translation

Do not you see how Allah sets forth Allah sets forth the example a word good (is) like a tree good its root (is) firm and its branches (are) in the sky

Verse 25

تُؤْتِىٓtu'tīGiving
أُكُلَهَاukulahāits fruit
كُلَّkullaall
حِينٍۭḥīnintime
بِإِذْنِbi-idh'niby the permission
رَبِّهَا ۗrabbihāof its Lord
وَيَضْرِبُwayaḍribuAnd Allah sets forth
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAnd Allah sets forth
ٱلْأَمْثَالَl-amthālathe examples
لِلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor mankind
لَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumso that they may
يَتَذَكَّرُونَyatadhakkarūnaremember

Translation

Giving its fruit all time by the permission of its Lord And Allah sets forth And Allah sets forth the examples for mankind so that they may remember

Verse 26

وَمَثَلُwamathaluAnd (the) example
كَلِمَةٍkalimatin(of) a word
خَبِيثَةٍۢkhabīthatinevil
كَشَجَرَةٍkashajaratin(is) like a tree
خَبِيثَةٍkhabīthatinevil
ٱجْتُثَّتْuj'tuthatuprooted
مِنminfrom
فَوْقِfawqithe surface
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍi(of) the earth
مَاmānot
لَهَاlahāfor it
مِنmin(is) any
قَرَارٍۢqarārinstability

Translation

And (the) example (of) a word evil (is) like a tree evil uprooted from the surface (of) the earth not for it (is) any stability

Verse 27

يُثَبِّتُyuthabbituAllah keeps firm
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah keeps firm
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
بِٱلْقَوْلِbil-qawliwith the firm word
ٱلثَّابِتِl-thābitiwith the firm word
فِىfīin
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِl-ḥayatithe life
ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the world
وَفِىwafīand in
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۖl-ākhiratithe Hereafter
وَيُضِلُّwayuḍilluAnd Allah lets go astray
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAnd Allah lets go astray
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ ۚl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
وَيَفْعَلُwayafʿaluAnd Allah does
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAnd Allah does
مَاmāwhat
يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills

Translation

Allah keeps firm Allah keeps firm those who believe with the firm word with the firm word in the life (of) the world and in the Hereafter And Allah lets go astray And Allah lets go astray the wrongdoers And Allah does And Allah does what He wills

Verse 28

۞ أَلَمْalamHave not
تَرَtarayou seen
إِلَىilā[to]
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
بَدَّلُوا۟baddalū(have) changed
نِعْمَتَniʿ'mata(the) Favor
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
كُفْرًۭاkuf'ran(for) disbelief
وَأَحَلُّوا۟wa-aḥallūand they led
قَوْمَهُمْqawmahumtheir people
دَارَdāra(to the) house
ٱلْبَوَارِl-bawāri(of) destruction

Translation

Have not you seen [to] those who (have) changed (the) Favor (of) Allah (for) disbelief and they led their people (to the) house (of) destruction

Verse 29

جَهَنَّمَjahannamaHell
يَصْلَوْنَهَا ۖyaṣlawnahā(in) it they will burn
وَبِئْسَwabi'saand a wretched
ٱلْقَرَارُl-qarāruplace to settle

Translation

Hell (in) it they will burn and a wretched place to settle

Verse 30

وَجَعَلُوا۟wajaʿalūAnd they set up
لِلَّهِlillahito Allah
أَندَادًۭاandādanequals
لِّيُضِلُّوا۟liyuḍillūso that they mislead
عَنʿanfrom
سَبِيلِهِۦ ۗsabīlihiHis Path
قُلْqulSay
تَمَتَّعُوا۟tamattaʿūEnjoy
فَإِنَّfa-innabut indeed
مَصِيرَكُمْmaṣīrakumyour destination
إِلَىilā(is) to
ٱلنَّارِl-nārithe Fire

Translation

And they set up to Allah equals so that they mislead from His Path Say Enjoy but indeed your destination (is) to the Fire

Verse 31

قُلqulSay
لِّعِبَادِىَliʿibādiyato My slaves
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
يُقِيمُوا۟yuqīmū(to) establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَl-ṣalatathe prayers
وَيُنفِقُوا۟wayunfiqūand (to) spend
مِمَّاmimmāfrom what
رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْrazaqnāhumWe have provided them
سِرًّۭاsirransecretly
وَعَلَانِيَةًۭwaʿalāniyatanand publicly
مِّنminbefore
قَبْلِqablibefore
أَنan[that]
يَأْتِىَyatiyacomes
يَوْمٌۭyawmuna Day
لَّاlānot
بَيْعٌۭbayʿunany trade
فِيهِfīhiin it
وَلَاwalāand not
خِلَـٰلٌkhilālunany friendship

Translation

Say to My slaves those who believe (to) establish the prayers and (to) spend from what We have provided them secretly and publicly before before [that] comes a Day not any trade in it and not any friendship

Verse 32

ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllah
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Who
خَلَقَkhalaqacreated
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earth
وَأَنزَلَwa-anzalaand sent down
مِنَminafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe sky
مَآءًۭmāanwater
فَأَخْرَجَfa-akhrajathen brought forth
بِهِۦbihifrom it
مِنَminaof
ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِl-thamarātithe fruits
رِزْقًۭاriz'qan(as) a provision
لَّكُمْ ۖlakumfor you
وَسَخَّرَwasakharaand subjected
لَكُمُlakumufor you
ٱلْفُلْكَl-ful'kathe ships
لِتَجْرِىَlitajriyaso that they may sail
فِىfīin
ٱلْبَحْرِl-baḥrithe sea
بِأَمْرِهِۦ ۖbi-amrihiby His command
وَسَخَّرَwasakharaand subjected
لَكُمُlakumufor you
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرَl-anhārathe rivers

Translation

Allah (is) the One Who created the heavens and the earth and sent down from the sky water then brought forth from it of the fruits (as) a provision for you and subjected for you the ships so that they may sail in the sea by His command and subjected for you the rivers

Verse 33

وَسَخَّرَwasakharaAnd He subjected
لَكُمُlakumufor you
ٱلشَّمْسَl-shamsathe sun
وَٱلْقَمَرَwal-qamaraand the moon
دَآئِبَيْنِ ۖdāibayniboth constantly pursuing their courses
وَسَخَّرَwasakharaand subjected
لَكُمُlakumufor you
ٱلَّيْلَal-laylathe night
وَٱلنَّهَارَwal-nahāraand the day

Translation

And He subjected for you the sun and the moon both constantly pursuing their courses and subjected for you the night and the day

Verse 34

وَءَاتَىٰكُمwaātākumAnd He gave you
مِّنminof
كُلِّkulliall
مَاmāwhat
سَأَلْتُمُوهُ ۚsa-altumūhuyou asked of Him
وَإِنwa-inAnd if
تَعُدُّوا۟taʿuddūyou count
نِعْمَتَniʿ'mata(the) Favor of Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(the) Favor of Allah
لَاlānot
تُحْصُوهَآ ۗtuḥ'ṣūhāyou will (be able to) count them
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَl-insānathe mankind
لَظَلُومٌۭlaẓalūmun(is) surely unjust
كَفَّارٌۭkaffārun(and) ungrateful

Translation

And He gave you of all what you asked of Him And if you count (the) Favor of Allah (the) Favor of Allah not you will (be able to) count them Indeed the mankind (is) surely unjust (and) ungrateful

Verse 35

وَإِذْwa-idhAnd when
قَالَqālasaid
إِبْرَٰهِيمُib'rāhīmuIbrahim
رَبِّrabbiMy Lord
ٱجْعَلْij'ʿalMake
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
ٱلْبَلَدَl-baladacity
ءَامِنًۭاāminansafe
وَٱجْنُبْنِىwa-uj'nub'nīand keep me away
وَبَنِىَّwabaniyyaand my sons
أَنanthat
نَّعْبُدَnaʿbudawe worship
ٱلْأَصْنَامَl-aṣnāmathe idols

Translation

And when said Ibrahim My Lord Make this city safe and keep me away and my sons that we worship the idols

Verse 36

رَبِّrabbiMy Lord
إِنَّهُنَّinnahunnaIndeed, they
أَضْلَلْنَaḍlalnahave led astray
كَثِيرًۭاkathīranmany
مِّنَminaamong
ٱلنَّاسِ ۖl-nāsithe mankind
فَمَنfamanSo whoever
تَبِعَنِىtabiʿanīfollows me
فَإِنَّهُۥfa-innahuthen indeed, he
مِنِّى ۖminnī(is) of me
وَمَنْwamanand whoever
عَصَانِىʿaṣānīdisobeys me
فَإِنَّكَfa-innakathen indeed, You
غَفُورٌۭghafūrun(are) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭraḥīmunMost Merciful

Translation

My Lord Indeed, they have led astray many among the mankind So whoever follows me then indeed, he (is) of me and whoever disobeys me then indeed, You (are) Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful

Verse 37

رَّبَّنَآrabbanāOur Lord
إِنِّىٓinnīIndeed, I
أَسْكَنتُaskantu[I] have settled
مِنmin(some) of
ذُرِّيَّتِىdhurriyyatīmy offsprings
بِوَادٍbiwādinin a valley
غَيْرِghayrinot
ذِىdhīwith
زَرْعٍzarʿincultivation
عِندَʿindanear
بَيْتِكَbaytikaYour Sacred House
ٱلْمُحَرَّمِl-muḥaramiYour Sacred House
رَبَّنَاrabbanāour Lord
لِيُقِيمُوا۟liyuqīmūThat they may establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَl-ṣalatathe prayers
فَٱجْعَلْfa-ij'ʿalSo make
أَفْـِٔدَةًۭafidatanhearts
مِّنَminaof
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsithe men
تَهْوِىٓtahwīincline
إِلَيْهِمْilayhimtowards them
وَٱرْزُقْهُمwa-ur'zuq'humand provide them
مِّنَminawith
ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِl-thamarātithe fruits
لَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumso that they may
يَشْكُرُونَyashkurūnabe grateful

Translation

Our Lord Indeed, I [I] have settled (some) of my offsprings in a valley not with cultivation near Your Sacred House Your Sacred House our Lord That they may establish the prayers So make hearts of the men incline towards them and provide them with the fruits so that they may be grateful

Verse 38

رَبَّنَآrabbanāOur Lord
إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, You
تَعْلَمُtaʿlamuYou know
مَاmāwhat
نُخْفِىnukh'fīwe conceal
وَمَاwamāand what
نُعْلِنُ ۗnuʿ'linuwe proclaim
وَمَاwamāAnd not
يَخْفَىٰyakhfā(is) hidden
عَلَىʿalāfrom
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
مِنminany
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
وَلَاwalāand not
فِىfīin
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe heaven

Translation

Our Lord Indeed, You You know what we conceal and what we proclaim And not (is) hidden from Allah any thing in the earth and not in the heaven

Verse 39

ٱلْحَمْدُal-ḥamduAll the Praise
لِلَّهِlillahi(is) for Allah
ٱلَّذِىalladhīthe One Who
وَهَبَwahabahas granted
لِىlīme
عَلَىʿalāin
ٱلْكِبَرِl-kibarithe old age
إِسْمَـٰعِيلَis'māʿīlaIshmael
وَإِسْحَـٰقَ ۚwa-is'ḥāqaand Isaac
إِنَّinnaIndeed
رَبِّىrabbīmy Lord
لَسَمِيعُlasamīʿu(is) All-Hearer
ٱلدُّعَآءِl-duʿāi(of) the prayer

Translation

All the Praise (is) for Allah the One Who has granted me in the old age Ishmael and Isaac Indeed my Lord (is) All-Hearer (of) the prayer

Verse 40

رَبِّrabbiMy Lord
ٱجْعَلْنِىij'ʿalnīMake me
مُقِيمَmuqīmaan establisher
ٱلصَّلَوٰةِl-ṣalati(of) the prayer
وَمِنwaminand from
ذُرِّيَّتِى ۚdhurriyyatīmy offsprings
رَبَّنَاrabbanāOur Lord
وَتَقَبَّلْwataqabbaland accept
دُعَآءِduʿāimy prayer

Translation

My Lord Make me an establisher (of) the prayer and from my offsprings Our Lord and accept my prayer

Verse 41

رَبَّنَاrabbanāOur Lord
ٱغْفِرْigh'firForgive
لِىlīme
وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّwaliwālidayyaand my parents
وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَwalil'mu'minīnaand the believers
يَوْمَyawma(on) the Day
يَقُومُyaqūmuwill (be) established
ٱلْحِسَابُl-ḥisābuthe account

Translation

Our Lord Forgive me and my parents and the believers (on) the Day will (be) established the account

Verse 42

وَلَاwalāAnd (do) not
تَحْسَبَنَّtaḥsabannathink
ٱللَّهَl-laha(that) Allah
غَـٰفِلًاghāfilan(is) unaware
عَمَّاʿammāof what
يَعْمَلُyaʿmaludo
ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ۚl-ẓālimūnathe wrongdoers
إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
يُؤَخِّرُهُمْyu-akhiruhumHe gives them respite
لِيَوْمٍۢliyawminto a Day
تَشْخَصُtashkhaṣuwill stare
فِيهِfīhiin it
ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُl-abṣāruthe eyes

Translation

And (do) not think (that) Allah (is) unaware of what do the wrongdoers Only He gives them respite to a Day will stare in it the eyes

Verse 43

مُهْطِعِينَmuh'ṭiʿīnaRacing ahead
مُقْنِعِىmuq'niʿīraised up
رُءُوسِهِمْruūsihimtheir heads
لَاlānot
يَرْتَدُّyartaddureturning
إِلَيْهِمْilayhimtowards them
طَرْفُهُمْ ۖṭarfuhumtheir gaze
وَأَفْـِٔدَتُهُمْwa-afidatuhumand their hearts
هَوَآءٌۭhawāon(are) empty

Translation

Racing ahead raised up their heads not returning towards them their gaze and their hearts (are) empty

Verse 44

وَأَنذِرِwa-andhiriAnd warn
ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsathe mankind
يَوْمَyawma(of) a Day
يَأْتِيهِمُyatīhimu(when) will come to them
ٱلْعَذَابُl-ʿadhābuthe punishment
فَيَقُولُfayaqūluthen will say
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ظَلَمُوا۟ẓalamūdid wrong
رَبَّنَآrabbanāOur Lord
أَخِّرْنَآakhir'nāRespite us
إِلَىٰٓilāfor
أَجَلٍۢajalina term
قَرِيبٍۢqarībinshort
نُّجِبْnujibwe will answer
دَعْوَتَكَdaʿwatakaYour call
وَنَتَّبِعِwanattabiʿiand we will follow
ٱلرُّسُلَ ۗl-rusulathe Messengers
أَوَلَمْawalamHad not
تَكُونُوٓا۟takūnūyou
أَقْسَمْتُمaqsamtumsworn
مِّنminbefore
قَبْلُqablubefore
مَاmānot
لَكُمlakumfor you
مِّنminany
زَوَالٍۢzawālinend

Translation

And warn the mankind (of) a Day (when) will come to them the punishment then will say those who did wrong Our Lord Respite us for a term short we will answer Your call and we will follow the Messengers Had not you sworn before before not for you any end

Verse 45

وَسَكَنتُمْwasakantumAnd you dwelt
فِىfīin
مَسَـٰكِنِmasākinithe dwellings
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those who
ظَلَمُوٓا۟ẓalamūwronged
أَنفُسَهُمْanfusahumthemselves
وَتَبَيَّنَwatabayyanaand it had become clear
لَكُمْlakumto you
كَيْفَkayfahow
فَعَلْنَاfaʿalnāWe dealt
بِهِمْbihimwith them
وَضَرَبْنَاwaḍarabnāand We put forth
لَكُمُlakumufor you
ٱلْأَمْثَالَl-amthālathe examples

Translation

And you dwelt in the dwellings (of) those who wronged themselves and it had become clear to you how We dealt with them and We put forth for you the examples

Verse 46

وَقَدْwaqadAnd indeed
مَكَرُوا۟makarūthey planned
مَكْرَهُمْmakrahumtheir plan
وَعِندَwaʿindabut with
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
مَكْرُهُمْmakruhum(was) their plan
وَإِنwa-ineven if
كَانَkānawas
مَكْرُهُمْmakruhumtheir plan
لِتَزُولَlitazūlathat should be moved
مِنْهُmin'huby it
ٱلْجِبَالُl-jibāluthe mountains

Translation

And indeed they planned their plan but with Allah (was) their plan even if was their plan that should be moved by it the mountains

Verse 47

فَلَاfalāSo (do) not
تَحْسَبَنَّtaḥsabannathink
ٱللَّهَl-laha(that) Allah
مُخْلِفَmukh'lifawill fail
وَعْدِهِۦwaʿdihi(to) keep His Promise
رُسُلَهُۥٓ ۗrusulahu(to) His Messengers
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
عَزِيزٌۭʿazīzun(is) All-Mighty
ذُوdhūOwner (of) Retribution
ٱنتِقَامٍۢintiqāminOwner (of) Retribution

Translation

So (do) not think (that) Allah will fail (to) keep His Promise (to) His Messengers Indeed Allah (is) All-Mighty Owner (of) Retribution Owner (of) Retribution

Verse 48

يَوْمَyawma(On the) Day
تُبَدَّلُtubaddaluwill be changed
ٱلْأَرْضُl-arḍuthe earth
غَيْرَghayra(to) other (than)
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
وَٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ ۖwal-samāwātuand the heavens
وَبَرَزُوا۟wabarazūand they will come forth
لِلَّهِlillahibefore Allah
ٱلْوَٰحِدِl-wāḥidithe One
ٱلْقَهَّارِl-qahārithe Irresistible

Translation

(On the) Day will be changed the earth (to) other (than) the earth and the heavens and they will come forth before Allah the One the Irresistible

Verse 49

وَتَرَىwatarāAnd you will see
ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَl-muj'rimīnathe criminals
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin(on) that Day
مُّقَرَّنِينَmuqarranīnabound together
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَصْفَادِl-aṣfādithe chains

Translation

And you will see the criminals (on) that Day bound together in the chains

Verse 50

سَرَابِيلُهُمsarābīluhumTheir garments
مِّنminof
قَطِرَانٍۢqaṭirānintar
وَتَغْشَىٰwataghshāand will cover
وُجُوهَهُمُwujūhahumutheir faces
ٱلنَّارُl-nāruthe Fire

Translation

Their garments of tar and will cover their faces the Fire

Verse 51

لِيَجْزِىَliyajziyaSo that Allah may recompense
ٱللَّهُl-lahuSo that Allah may recompense
كُلَّkullaeach
نَفْسٍۢnafsinsoul
مَّاmā(for) what
كَسَبَتْ ۚkasabatit earned
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
سَرِيعُsarīʿu(is) Swift
ٱلْحِسَابِl-ḥisābi(in) the reckoning

Translation

So that Allah may recompense So that Allah may recompense each soul (for) what it earned Indeed Allah (is) Swift (in) the reckoning

Verse 52

هَـٰذَاhādhāThis
بَلَـٰغٌۭbalāghun(is) a Message
لِّلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor the mankind
وَلِيُنذَرُوا۟waliyundharūthat they may be warned
بِهِۦbihiwith it
وَلِيَعْلَمُوٓا۟waliyaʿlamūand that they may know
أَنَّمَاannamāthat only
هُوَhuwaHe
إِلَـٰهٌۭilāhun(is) One God
وَٰحِدٌۭwāḥidun(is) One God
وَلِيَذَّكَّرَwaliyadhakkaraand that may take heed
أُو۟لُوا۟ulūmen
ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِl-albābi(of) understanding

Translation

This (is) a Message for the mankind that they may be warned with it and that they may know that only He (is) One God (is) One God and that may take heed men (of) understanding
