Chapter 15Meccan99 Verses

Verse 1

الٓر ۚalif-lam-raAlif Laam Ra
تِلْكَtil'kaThese
ءَايَـٰتُāyātu(are) the Verses
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
وَقُرْءَانٍۢwaqur'āninand Quran
مُّبِينٍۢmubīninclear

Translation

Alif Laam Ra These (are) the Verses (of) the Book and Quran clear

Verse 2

رُّبَمَاrubamāPerhaps
يَوَدُّyawadduwill wish
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
لَوْlawif
كَانُوا۟kānūthey had been
مُسْلِمِينَmus'limīnaMuslims

Translation

Perhaps will wish those who disbelieved if they had been Muslims

Verse 3

ذَرْهُمْdharhumLeave them
يَأْكُلُوا۟yakulū(to) eat
وَيَتَمَتَّعُوا۟wayatamattaʿūand enjoy
وَيُلْهِهِمُwayul'hihimuand diverted them
ٱلْأَمَلُ ۖl-amaluthe hope
فَسَوْفَfasawfathen soon
يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnathey will come to know

Translation

Leave them (to) eat and enjoy and diverted them the hope then soon they will come to know

Verse 4

وَمَآwamāAnd not
أَهْلَكْنَاahlaknāWe destroyed
مِنminany
قَرْيَةٍqaryatintown
إِلَّاillābut
وَلَهَاwalahā(there was) for it
كِتَابٌۭkitābuna decree
مَّعْلُومٌۭmaʿlūmunknown

Translation

And not We destroyed any town but (there was) for it a decree known

Verse 5

مَّاmāNot
تَسْبِقُtasbiqu(can) advance
مِنْminany
أُمَّةٍummatinnation
أَجَلَهَاajalahāits term
وَمَاwamāand not
يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَyastakhirūna(can) delay it

Translation

Not (can) advance any nation its term and not (can) delay it

Verse 6

وَقَالُوا۟waqālūAnd they say
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(to) whom
نُزِّلَnuzzilahas been sent down
عَلَيْهِʿalayhi[on him]
ٱلذِّكْرُl-dhik'ruthe Reminder
إِنَّكَinnakaindeed, you
لَمَجْنُونٌۭlamajnūnun(are) surely mad

Translation

And they say O you (to) whom has been sent down [on him] the Reminder indeed, you (are) surely mad

Verse 7

لَّوْlawWhy
مَاmānot
تَأْتِينَاtatīnāyou bring to us
بِٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِbil-malāikatithe Angels
إِنinif
كُنتَkuntayou are
مِنَminaof
ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَl-ṣādiqīnathe truthful

Translation

Why not you bring to us the Angels if you are of the truthful

Verse 8

مَاmāNot
نُنَزِّلُnunazziluWe send down
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَl-malāikatathe Angels
إِلَّاillāexcept
بِٱلْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiwith the truth
وَمَاwamāand not
كَانُوٓا۟kānūthey would be
إِذًۭاidhanthen
مُّنظَرِينَmunẓarīnagiven respite

Translation

Not We send down the Angels except with the truth and not they would be then given respite

Verse 9

إِنَّاinnāIndeed, We
نَحْنُnaḥnuWe
نَزَّلْنَاnazzalnāhave sent down
ٱلذِّكْرَl-dhik'rathe Reminder
وَإِنَّاwa-innāand indeed, We
لَهُۥlahuof it
لَحَـٰفِظُونَlaḥāfiẓūna(are) surely Guardians

Translation

Indeed, We We have sent down the Reminder and indeed, We of it (are) surely Guardians

Verse 10

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainly
أَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe (had) sent
مِنminbefore you
قَبْلِكَqablikabefore you
فِىfīin
شِيَعِshiyaʿithe sects
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīna(of) the former (people)

Translation

And certainly We (had) sent before you before you in the sects (of) the former (people)

Verse 11

وَمَاwamāAnd not
يَأْتِيهِمyatīhimcame to them
مِّنminany
رَّسُولٍrasūlinMessenger
إِلَّاillābut
كَانُوا۟kānūthey did
بِهِۦbihiat him
يَسْتَهْزِءُونَyastahziūnamock

Translation

And not came to them any Messenger but they did at him mock

Verse 12

كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
نَسْلُكُهُۥnaslukuhuWe let it enter
فِىfīin
قُلُوبِqulūbi(the) hearts
ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَl-muj'rimīna(of) the criminals

Translation

Thus We let it enter in (the) hearts (of) the criminals

Verse 13

لَاlāNot
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnathey believe
بِهِۦ ۖbihiin it
وَقَدْwaqadand verily
خَلَتْkhalathave passed
سُنَّةُsunnatuthe way(s)
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīna(of) the former (people)

Translation

Not they believe in it and verily have passed the way(s) (of) the former (people)

Verse 14

وَلَوْwalawAnd (even) if
فَتَحْنَاfataḥnāWe opened
عَلَيْهِمʿalayhimto them
بَابًۭاbābana gate
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe heaven
فَظَلُّوا۟faẓallūand they were to continue
فِيهِfīhitherein
يَعْرُجُونَyaʿrujūna(to) ascend

Translation

And (even) if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue therein (to) ascend

Verse 15

لَقَالُوٓا۟laqālūThey would surely say
إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
سُكِّرَتْsukkirathave been dazzled
أَبْصَـٰرُنَاabṣārunāour eyes
بَلْbalNay
نَحْنُnaḥnuwe
قَوْمٌۭqawmun(are) a people
مَّسْحُورُونَmasḥūrūnabewitched

Translation

They would surely say Only have been dazzled our eyes Nay we (are) a people bewitched

Verse 16

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd verily
جَعَلْنَاjaʿalnāWe have placed
فِىfīin
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe heavens
بُرُوجًۭاburūjanconstellations
وَزَيَّنَّـٰهَاwazayyannāhāand We have beautified it
لِلنَّـٰظِرِينَlilnnāẓirīnafor the observers

Translation

And verily We have placed in the heavens constellations and We have beautified it for the observers

Verse 17

وَحَفِظْنَـٰهَاwaḥafiẓ'nāhāAnd We have protected it
مِنminfrom
كُلِّkullievery
شَيْطَـٰنٍۢshayṭānindevil
رَّجِيمٍrajīminaccursed

Translation

And We have protected it from every devil accursed

Verse 18

إِلَّاillāExcept
مَنِmani(one) who
ٱسْتَرَقَis'taraqasteals
ٱلسَّمْعَl-samʿathe hearing
فَأَتْبَعَهُۥfa-atbaʿahuthen follows him
شِهَابٌۭshihābuna burning flame
مُّبِينٌۭmubīnunclear

Translation

Except (one) who steals the hearing then follows him a burning flame clear

Verse 19

وَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍaAnd the earth
مَدَدْنَـٰهَاmadadnāhāWe have spread it
وَأَلْقَيْنَاwa-alqaynāand [We] cast
فِيهَاfīhātherein
رَوَٰسِىَrawāsiyafirm mountains
وَأَنۢبَتْنَاwa-anbatnāand [We] caused to grow
فِيهَاfīhātherein
مِنminof
كُلِّkullievery
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
مَّوْزُونٍۢmawzūninwell-balanced

Translation

And the earth We have spread it and [We] cast therein firm mountains and [We] caused to grow therein of every thing well-balanced

Verse 20

وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāAnd We have made
لَكُمْlakumfor you
فِيهَاfīhātherein
مَعَـٰيِشَmaʿāyishameans of living
وَمَنwamanand whom
لَّسْتُمْlastumyou are not
لَهُۥlahufor him
بِرَٰزِقِينَbirāziqīnaproviders

Translation

And We have made for you therein means of living and whom you are not for him providers

Verse 21

وَإِنwa-inAnd not
مِّنmin(is) any
شَىْءٍshayinthing
إِلَّاillābut
عِندَنَاʿindanāwith Us
خَزَآئِنُهُۥkhazāinuhu(are) its treasures
وَمَاwamāand not
نُنَزِّلُهُۥٓnunazziluhuWe send it down
إِلَّاillāexcept
بِقَدَرٍۢbiqadarinin a measure
مَّعْلُومٍۢmaʿlūminknown

Translation

And not (is) any thing but with Us (are) its treasures and not We send it down except in a measure known

Verse 22

وَأَرْسَلْنَاwa-arsalnāAnd We have sent
ٱلرِّيَـٰحَl-riyāḥathe winds
لَوَٰقِحَlawāqiḥafertilizing
فَأَنزَلْنَاfa-anzalnāand We sent down
مِنَminafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe sky
مَآءًۭmāanwater
فَأَسْقَيْنَـٰكُمُوهُfa-asqaynākumūhuand We gave it to you to drink
وَمَآwamāAnd not
أَنتُمْantumyou
لَهُۥlahuof it
بِخَـٰزِنِينَbikhāzinīna(are) retainers

Translation

And We have sent the winds fertilizing and We sent down from the sky water and We gave it to you to drink And not you of it (are) retainers

Verse 23

وَإِنَّاwa-innāAnd indeed, We
لَنَحْنُlanaḥnusurely [We]
نُحْىِۦnuḥ'yīWe give life
وَنُمِيتُwanumītuand We cause death
وَنَحْنُwanaḥnuand We
ٱلْوَٰرِثُونَl-wārithūna(are) the Inheritors

Translation

And indeed, We surely [We] We give life and We cause death and We (are) the Inheritors

Verse 24

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd verily
عَلِمْنَاʿalim'nāWe know
ٱلْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَl-mus'taqdimīnathe preceding ones
مِنكُمْminkumamong you
وَلَقَدْwalaqadand verily
عَلِمْنَاʿalim'nāWe know
ٱلْمُسْتَـْٔخِرِينَl-mus'takhirīnathe later ones

Translation

And verily We know the preceding ones among you and verily We know the later ones

Verse 25

وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lord
هُوَhuwaHe
يَحْشُرُهُمْ ۚyaḥshuruhumwill gather them
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, He
حَكِيمٌḥakīmun(is) All-Wise
عَلِيمٌۭʿalīmunAll-Knowing

Translation

And indeed your Lord He will gather them Indeed, He (is) All-Wise All-Knowing

Verse 26

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd verily
خَلَقْنَاkhalaqnāWe created
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَl-insānahumankind
مِنmin(out) of
صَلْصَـٰلٍۢṣalṣālinsounding clay
مِّنْminfrom
حَمَإٍۢḥama-inblack mud
مَّسْنُونٍۢmasnūninaltered

Translation

And verily We created humankind (out) of sounding clay from black mud altered

Verse 27

وَٱلْجَآنَّwal-jānaAnd the jinn
خَلَقْنَـٰهُkhalaqnāhuWe created it
مِنminbefore
قَبْلُqablubefore
مِنminfrom
نَّارِnārifire
ٱلسَّمُومِl-samūmiscorching

Translation

And the jinn We created it before before from fire scorching

Verse 28

وَإِذْwa-idhAnd when
قَالَqālayour Lord said
رَبُّكَrabbukayour Lord said
لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِlil'malāikatito the Angels
إِنِّىinnīIndeed, I
خَـٰلِقٌۢkhāliqun(will) create
بَشَرًۭاbasharana human being
مِّنmin(out) of
صَلْصَـٰلٍۢṣalṣālinclay
مِّنْminfrom
حَمَإٍۢḥama-inblack mud
مَّسْنُونٍۢmasnūninaltered

Translation

And when your Lord said your Lord said to the Angels Indeed, I (will) create a human being (out) of clay from black mud altered

Verse 29

فَإِذَاfa-idhāSo, when
سَوَّيْتُهُۥsawwaytuhuI have fashioned him
وَنَفَخْتُwanafakhtuand [I] breathed
فِيهِfīhiinto him
مِنminof
رُّوحِىrūḥīMy spirit
فَقَعُوا۟faqaʿūthen fall down
لَهُۥlahuto him
سَـٰجِدِينَsājidīnaprostrating

Translation

So, when I have fashioned him and [I] breathed into him of My spirit then fall down to him prostrating

Verse 30

فَسَجَدَfasajadaSo prostrated
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُl-malāikatuthe Angels
كُلُّهُمْkulluhumall of them
أَجْمَعُونَajmaʿūnatogether

Translation

So prostrated the Angels all of them together

Verse 31

إِلَّآillāExcept
إِبْلِيسَib'līsaIblis
أَبَىٰٓabāHe refused
أَنanto
يَكُونَyakūnabe
مَعَmaʿawith
ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَl-sājidīnathose who prostrated

Translation

Except Iblis He refused to be with those who prostrated

Verse 32

قَالَqālaHe said
يَـٰٓإِبْلِيسُyāib'līsuO Iblis
مَاmāWhat
لَكَlaka(is) for you
أَلَّاallāthat not
تَكُونَtakūnayou are
مَعَmaʿawith
ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَl-sājidīnathose who prostrated

Translation

He said O Iblis What (is) for you that not you are with those who prostrated

Verse 33

قَالَqālaHe said
لَمْlamI am not
أَكُنakunI am not
لِّأَسْجُدَli-asjuda(one) to prostrate
لِبَشَرٍlibasharinto a human
خَلَقْتَهُۥkhalaqtahuwhom You created
مِنmin(out) of
صَلْصَـٰلٍۢṣalṣālinclay
مِّنْminfrom
حَمَإٍۢḥama-inblack mud
مَّسْنُونٍۢmasnūninaltered

Translation

He said I am not I am not (one) to prostrate to a human whom You created (out) of clay from black mud altered

Verse 34

قَالَqālaHe said
فَٱخْرُجْfa-ukh'rujThen get out
مِنْهَاmin'hāof it
فَإِنَّكَfa-innakafor indeed, you
رَجِيمٌۭrajīmun(are) expelled

Translation

He said Then get out of it for indeed, you (are) expelled

Verse 35

وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
عَلَيْكَʿalaykaupon you
ٱللَّعْنَةَl-laʿnata(will be) the curse
إِلَىٰilātill
يَوْمِyawmi(the) Day
ٱلدِّينِl-dīni(of) [the] Judgment

Translation

And indeed upon you (will be) the curse till (the) Day (of) [the] Judgment

Verse 36

قَالَqālaHe said
رَبِّrabbiO my Lord
فَأَنظِرْنِىٓfa-anẓir'nīThen give me respite
إِلَىٰilātill
يَوْمِyawmi(the) Day
يُبْعَثُونَyub'ʿathūnathey are raised

Translation

He said O my Lord Then give me respite till (the) Day they are raised

Verse 37

قَالَqālaHe said
فَإِنَّكَfa-innakaThen indeed you
مِنَmina(are) of
ٱلْمُنظَرِينَl-munẓarīnathe ones given respite

Translation

He said Then indeed you (are) of the ones given respite

Verse 38

إِلَىٰilāTill
يَوْمِyawmithe Day
ٱلْوَقْتِl-waqti(of) the time
ٱلْمَعْلُومِl-maʿlūmiwell-known

Translation

Till the Day (of) the time well-known

Verse 39

قَالَqālaHe said
رَبِّrabbiMy Lord
بِمَآbimāBecause
أَغْوَيْتَنِىaghwaytanīYou misled me
لَأُزَيِّنَنَّla-uzayyinannasurely, I will make (evil) fair-seeming
لَهُمْlahumto them
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْwala-ugh'wiyannahumand I will mislead them
أَجْمَعِينَajmaʿīnaall

Translation

He said My Lord Because You misled me surely, I will make (evil) fair-seeming to them in the earth and I will mislead them all

Verse 40

إِلَّاillāExcept
عِبَادَكَʿibādakaYour slaves
مِنْهُمُmin'humuamong them
ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَl-mukh'laṣīnathe ones who are sincere

Translation

Except Your slaves among them the ones who are sincere

Verse 41

قَالَqālaHe said
هَـٰذَاhādhāThis
صِرَٰطٌṣirāṭun(is) the way
عَلَىَّʿalayyato Me
مُسْتَقِيمٌmus'taqīmunstraight

Translation

He said This (is) the way to Me straight

Verse 42

إِنَّinnaIndeed
عِبَادِىʿibādīMy slaves
لَيْسَlaysanot
لَكَlakayou have
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimover them
سُلْطَـٰنٌsul'ṭānunany authority
إِلَّاillāexcept
مَنِmanithose who
ٱتَّبَعَكَittabaʿakafollow you
مِنَminaof
ٱلْغَاوِينَl-ghāwīnathe ones who go astray

Translation

Indeed My slaves not you have over them any authority except those who follow you of the ones who go astray

Verse 43

وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
جَهَنَّمَjahannamaHell
لَمَوْعِدُهُمْlamawʿiduhum(is) surely the promised place for them
أَجْمَعِينَajmaʿīnaall

Translation

And indeed Hell (is) surely the promised place for them all

Verse 44

لَهَاlahāFor it
سَبْعَةُsabʿatu(are) seven
أَبْوَٰبٍۢabwābingates
لِّكُلِّlikullifor each
بَابٍۢbābingate
مِّنْهُمْmin'humamong them
جُزْءٌۭjuz'on(is) a portion
مَّقْسُومٌmaqsūmunassigned

Translation

For it (are) seven gates for each gate among them (is) a portion assigned

Verse 45

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīnathe righteous
فِىfī(will be) in
جَنَّـٰتٍۢjannātinGardens
وَعُيُونٍwaʿuyūninand water springs

Translation

Indeed the righteous (will be) in Gardens and water springs

Verse 46

ٱدْخُلُوهَاud'khulūhāEnter it
بِسَلَـٰمٍbisalāminin peace
ءَامِنِينَāminīnasecure

Translation

Enter it in peace secure

Verse 47

وَنَزَعْنَاwanazaʿnāAnd We (will) remove
مَاmāwhat
فِىfī(is) in
صُدُورِهِمṣudūrihimtheir breasts
مِّنْminof
غِلٍّghillinrancor
إِخْوَٰنًاikh'wānan(they will be) brothers
عَلَىٰʿalāon
سُرُرٍۢsururinthrones
مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَmutaqābilīnafacing each other

Translation

And We (will) remove what (is) in their breasts of rancor (they will be) brothers on thrones facing each other

Verse 48

لَاlāNot
يَمَسُّهُمْyamassuhumwill touch them
فِيهَاfīhātherein
نَصَبٌۭnaṣabunfatigue
وَمَاwamāand not
هُمhumthey
مِّنْهَاmin'hāfrom it
بِمُخْرَجِينَbimukh'rajīnawill be removed

Translation

Not will touch them therein fatigue and not they from it will be removed

Verse 49

۞ نَبِّئْnabbiInform
عِبَادِىٓʿibādīMy slaves
أَنِّىٓannīthat I
أَنَاanāI am
ٱلْغَفُورُl-ghafūruthe Oft-Forgiving
ٱلرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuthe Most Merciful

Translation

Inform My slaves that I I am the Oft-Forgiving the Most Merciful

Verse 50

وَأَنَّwa-annaAnd that
عَذَابِىʿadhābīMy punishment
هُوَhuwait
ٱلْعَذَابُl-ʿadhābu(is) the punishment
ٱلْأَلِيمُl-alīmuthe most painful

Translation

And that My punishment it (is) the punishment the most painful

Verse 51

وَنَبِّئْهُمْwanabbi'humAnd inform them
عَنʿanabout
ضَيْفِḍayfi(the) guests
إِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīma(of) Ibrahim

Translation

And inform them about (the) guests (of) Ibrahim

Verse 52

إِذْidhWhen
دَخَلُوا۟dakhalūthey entered
عَلَيْهِʿalayhiupon him
فَقَالُوا۟faqālūand said
سَلَـٰمًۭاsalāmanPeace
قَالَqālaHe said
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, we
مِنكُمْminkum(are) of you
وَجِلُونَwajilūnaafraid

Translation

When they entered upon him and said Peace He said Indeed, we (are) of you afraid

Verse 53

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
لَاlā(Do) not
تَوْجَلْtawjalbe afraid
إِنَّاinnāindeed, we
نُبَشِّرُكَnubashiruka[we] bring glad tidings to you
بِغُلَـٰمٍbighulāminof a boy
عَلِيمٍۢʿalīminlearned

Translation

They said (Do) not be afraid indeed, we [we] bring glad tidings to you of a boy learned

Verse 54

قَالَqālaHe said
أَبَشَّرْتُمُونِىabashartumūnīDo you give me glad tidings
عَلَىٰٓʿalāDo you give me glad tidings
أَنanalthough
مَّسَّنِىَmassaniyahas overtaken me
ٱلْكِبَرُl-kibaruold age
فَبِمَfabimaThen about what
تُبَشِّرُونَtubashirūnayou give glad tidings

Translation

He said Do you give me glad tidings Do you give me glad tidings although has overtaken me old age Then about what you give glad tidings

Verse 55

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
بَشَّرْنَـٰكَbasharnākaWe give you glad tidings
بِٱلْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin truth
فَلَاfalāso (do) not
تَكُنtakunbe
مِّنَminaof
ٱلْقَـٰنِطِينَl-qāniṭīnathe despairing

Translation

They said We give you glad tidings in truth so (do) not be of the despairing

Verse 56

قَالَqālaHe said
وَمَنwamanAnd who
يَقْنَطُyaqnaṭudespairs
مِنminof
رَّحْمَةِraḥmati(the) Mercy
رَبِّهِۦٓrabbihi(of) his Lord
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱلضَّآلُّونَl-ḍālūnathose who are astray

Translation

He said And who despairs of (the) Mercy (of) his Lord except those who are astray

Verse 57

قَالَqālaHe said
فَمَاfamāThen what
خَطْبُكُمْkhaṭbukum(is) your business
أَيُّهَاayyuhāO messengers
ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَl-mur'salūnaO messengers

Translation

He said Then what (is) your business O messengers O messengers

Verse 58

قَالُوٓا۟qālūThey said
إِنَّآinnāIndeed, we
أُرْسِلْنَآur'sil'nā[we] have been sent
إِلَىٰilāto
قَوْمٍۢqawmina people
مُّجْرِمِينَmuj'rimīnacriminals

Translation

They said Indeed, we [we] have been sent to a people criminals

Verse 59

إِلَّآillāExcept
ءَالَālathe family
لُوطٍlūṭinof Lut
إِنَّاinnāindeed, we
لَمُنَجُّوهُمْlamunajjūhumsurely will save them
أَجْمَعِينَajmaʿīnaall

Translation

Except the family of Lut indeed, we surely will save them all

Verse 60

إِلَّاillāExcept
ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥim'ra-atahuhis wife
قَدَّرْنَآ ۙqaddarnāWe have decreed
إِنَّهَاinnahāthat she
لَمِنَlamina(is) surely of
ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَl-ghābirīnathose who remain behind

Translation

Except his wife We have decreed that she (is) surely of those who remain behind

Verse 61

فَلَمَّاfalammāAnd when
جَآءَjāacame
ءَالَāla(to the) family
لُوطٍlūṭin(of) Lut
ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَl-mur'salūnathe messengers

Translation

And when came (to the) family (of) Lut the messengers

Verse 62

قَالَqālaHe said
إِنَّكُمْinnakumIndeed, you
قَوْمٌۭqawmun(are) a people
مُّنكَرُونَmunkarūnaunknown

Translation

He said Indeed, you (are) a people unknown

Verse 63

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
بَلْbalNay
جِئْنَـٰكَji'nākawe have come to you
بِمَاbimāwith what
كَانُوا۟kānūthey were
فِيهِfīhiin it
يَمْتَرُونَyamtarūnadisputing

Translation

They said Nay we have come to you with what they were in it disputing

Verse 64

وَأَتَيْنَـٰكَwa-ataynākaAnd we have come to you
بِٱلْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiwith the truth
وَإِنَّاwa-innāand indeed, we
لَصَـٰدِقُونَlaṣādiqūnasurely (are) truthful

Translation

And we have come to you with the truth and indeed, we surely (are) truthful

Verse 65

فَأَسْرِfa-asriSo travel
بِأَهْلِكَbi-ahlikawith your family
بِقِطْعٍۢbiqiṭ'ʿinin a portion
مِّنَminaof
ٱلَّيْلِal-laylithe night
وَٱتَّبِعْwa-ittabiʿand follow
أَدْبَـٰرَهُمْadbārahumtheir backs
وَلَاwalāand not
يَلْتَفِتْyaltafitlet look back
مِنكُمْminkumamong you
أَحَدٌۭaḥadunanyone
وَٱمْضُوا۟wa-im'ḍūand go on
حَيْثُḥaythuwhere
تُؤْمَرُونَtu'marūnayou are ordered

Translation

So travel with your family in a portion of the night and follow their backs and not let look back among you anyone and go on where you are ordered

Verse 66

وَقَضَيْنَآwaqaḍaynāAnd We conveyed
إِلَيْهِilayhito him
ذَٰلِكَdhālika[that]
ٱلْأَمْرَl-amrathe matter
أَنَّannathat
دَابِرَdābira(the) root
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāi(of) these
مَقْطُوعٌۭmaqṭūʿunwould be cut off
مُّصْبِحِينَmuṣ'biḥīna(by) early morning

Translation

And We conveyed to him [that] the matter that (the) root (of) these would be cut off (by) early morning

Verse 67

وَجَآءَwajāaAnd came
أَهْلُahlu(the) people
ٱلْمَدِينَةِl-madīnati(of) the city
يَسْتَبْشِرُونَyastabshirūnarejoicing

Translation

And came (the) people (of) the city rejoicing

Verse 68

قَالَqālaHe said
إِنَّinnaIndeed
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāithese
ضَيْفِىḍayfī(are) my guests
فَلَاfalāso (do) not
تَفْضَحُونِtafḍaḥūnishame me

Translation

He said Indeed these (are) my guests so (do) not shame me

Verse 69

وَٱتَّقُوا۟wa-ittaqūAnd fear
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تُخْزُونِtukh'zūnidisgrace me

Translation

And fear Allah and (do) not disgrace me

Verse 70

قَالُوٓا۟qālūThey said
أَوَلَمْawalamDid not
نَنْهَكَnanhakawe forbid you
عَنِʿanifrom
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe world

Translation

They said Did not we forbid you from the world

Verse 71

قَالَqālaHe said
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāiThese
بَنَاتِىٓbanātī(are) my daughters
إِنinif
كُنتُمْkuntumyou would be
فَـٰعِلِينَfāʿilīnadoers

Translation

He said These (are) my daughters if you would be doers

Verse 72

لَعَمْرُكَlaʿamrukaBy your life
إِنَّهُمْinnahumindeed, they
لَفِىlafīwere in
سَكْرَتِهِمْsakratihimtheir intoxication
يَعْمَهُونَyaʿmahūnawandering blindly

Translation

By your life indeed, they were in their intoxication wandering blindly

Verse 73

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُfa-akhadhathumuSo, seized them
ٱلصَّيْحَةُl-ṣayḥatuthe awful cry
مُشْرِقِينَmush'riqīnaat sunrise

Translation

So, seized them the awful cry at sunrise

Verse 74

فَجَعَلْنَاfajaʿalnāAnd We made
عَـٰلِيَهَاʿāliyahāits highest (part)
سَافِلَهَاsāfilahāits lowest
وَأَمْطَرْنَاwa-amṭarnāand We rained
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimupon them
حِجَارَةًۭḥijāratanstones
مِّنminof
سِجِّيلٍsijjīlinbaked clay

Translation

And We made its highest (part) its lowest and We rained upon them stones of baked clay

Verse 75

إِنَّinnaIndeed
فِىfīin
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢlaāyātin(are) the Signs
لِّلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَlil'mutawassimīnafor those who discern

Translation

Indeed in that (are) the Signs for those who discern

Verse 76

وَإِنَّهَاwa-innahāAnd indeed, it
لَبِسَبِيلٍۢlabisabīlin(is) on a road
مُّقِيمٍmuqīminestablished

Translation

And indeed, it (is) on a road established

Verse 77

إِنَّinnaIndeed
فِىfīin
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
لَـَٔايَةًۭlaāyatansurely (is) a Sign
لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَlil'mu'minīnafor the believers

Translation

Indeed in that surely (is) a Sign for the believers

Verse 78

وَإِنwa-inAnd were
كَانَkānaAnd were
أَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu(the) companions
ٱلْأَيْكَةِl-aykati(of) the wood
لَظَـٰلِمِينَlaẓālimīnasurely wrongdoers

Translation

And were And were (the) companions (of) the wood surely wrongdoers

Verse 79

فَٱنتَقَمْنَاfa-intaqamnāSo We took retribution
مِنْهُمْmin'humfrom them
وَإِنَّهُمَاwa-innahumāand indeed, they both
لَبِإِمَامٍۢlabi-imāmin(were) on a highway
مُّبِينٍۢmubīninclear

Translation

So We took retribution from them and indeed, they both (were) on a highway clear

Verse 80

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainly
كَذَّبَkadhabadenied
أَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu(the) companions
ٱلْحِجْرِl-ḥij'ri(of) the Rocky Tract
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَl-mur'salīnathe Messengers

Translation

And certainly denied (the) companions (of) the Rocky Tract the Messengers

Verse 81

وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْwaātaynāhumAnd We gave them
ءَايَـٰتِنَاāyātināOur Signs
فَكَانُوا۟fakānūbut they were
عَنْهَاʿanhāfrom them
مُعْرِضِينَmuʿ'riḍīnaturning away

Translation

And We gave them Our Signs but they were from them turning away

Verse 82

وَكَانُوا۟wakānūAnd they used (to)
يَنْحِتُونَyanḥitūnacarve
مِنَminafrom
ٱلْجِبَالِl-jibālithe mountains
بُيُوتًاbuyūtanhouses
ءَامِنِينَāminīnasecure

Translation

And they used (to) carve from the mountains houses secure

Verse 83

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُfa-akhadhathumuBut seized them
ٱلصَّيْحَةُl-ṣayḥatuthe awful cry
مُصْبِحِينَmuṣ'biḥīna(at) early morning

Translation

But seized them the awful cry (at) early morning

Verse 84

فَمَآfamāAnd not
أَغْنَىٰaghnāavailed
عَنْهُمʿanhumthem
مَّاmāwhat
كَانُوا۟kānūthey used (to)
يَكْسِبُونَyaksibūnaearn

Translation

And not availed them what they used (to) earn

Verse 85

وَمَاwamāAnd not
خَلَقْنَاkhalaqnāWe created
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earth
وَمَاwamāand whatever
بَيْنَهُمَآbaynahumā(is) between them
إِلَّاillāexcept
بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗbil-ḥaqiin truth
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
ٱلسَّاعَةَl-sāʿatathe Hour
لَـَٔاتِيَةٌۭ ۖlaātiyatun(is) surely coming
فَٱصْفَحِfa-iṣ'faḥiSo overlook
ٱلصَّفْحَl-ṣafḥa(with) forgiveness
ٱلْجَمِيلَl-jamīlagracious

Translation

And not We created the heavens and the earth and whatever (is) between them except in truth And indeed the Hour (is) surely coming So overlook (with) forgiveness gracious

Verse 86

إِنَّinnaIndeed
رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lord
هُوَhuwaHe
ٱلْخَلَّـٰقُl-khalāqu(is) the Creator
ٱلْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmuthe All-Knower

Translation

Indeed your Lord He (is) the Creator the All-Knower

Verse 87

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainly
ءَاتَيْنَـٰكَātaynākaWe have given you
سَبْعًۭاsabʿanseven
مِّنَminaof
ٱلْمَثَانِىl-mathānīthe oft-repeated
وَٱلْقُرْءَانَwal-qur'ānaand the Quran
ٱلْعَظِيمَl-ʿaẓīmaGreat

Translation

And certainly We have given you seven of the oft-repeated and the Quran Great

Verse 88

لَاlā(Do) not
تَمُدَّنَّtamuddannaextend
عَيْنَيْكَʿaynaykayour eyes
إِلَىٰilātowards
مَاmāwhat
مَتَّعْنَاmattaʿnāWe have bestowed
بِهِۦٓbihiwith it
أَزْوَٰجًۭاazwājan(to) categories
مِّنْهُمْmin'humof them
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تَحْزَنْtaḥzangrieve
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimover them
وَٱخْفِضْwa-ikh'fiḍAnd lower
جَنَاحَكَjanāḥakayour wing
لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَlil'mu'minīnato the believers

Translation

(Do) not extend your eyes towards what We have bestowed with it (to) categories of them and (do) not grieve over them And lower your wing to the believers

Verse 89

وَقُلْwaqulAnd say
إِنِّىٓinnīIndeed, I
أَنَاanā[I] am
ٱلنَّذِيرُl-nadhīrua warner
ٱلْمُبِينُl-mubīnuclear

Translation

And say Indeed, I [I] am a warner clear

Verse 90

كَمَآkamāAs
أَنزَلْنَاanzalnāWe sent down
عَلَىʿalāon
ٱلْمُقْتَسِمِينَl-muq'tasimīnathose who divided

Translation

As We sent down on those who divided

Verse 91

ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose who
جَعَلُوا۟jaʿalūhave made
ٱلْقُرْءَانَl-qur'ānathe Quran
عِضِينَʿiḍīna(in) parts

Translation

Those who have made the Quran (in) parts

Verse 92

فَوَرَبِّكَfawarabbikaSo by your Lord
لَنَسْـَٔلَنَّهُمْlanasalannahumsurely We will question them
أَجْمَعِينَajmaʿīnaall

Translation

So by your Lord surely We will question them all

Verse 93

عَمَّاʿammāAbout what
كَانُوا۟kānūthey used (to)
يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnado

Translation

About what they used (to) do

Verse 94

فَٱصْدَعْfa-iṣ'daʿSo proclaim
بِمَاbimāof what
تُؤْمَرُtu'maruyou are ordered
وَأَعْرِضْwa-aʿriḍand turn away
عَنِʿanifrom
ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَl-mush'rikīnathe polytheists

Translation

So proclaim of what you are ordered and turn away from the polytheists

Verse 95

إِنَّاinnāIndeed, We
كَفَيْنَـٰكَkafaynāka[We] are sufficient for you
ٱلْمُسْتَهْزِءِينَl-mus'tahziīna(against) the mockers

Translation

Indeed, We [We] are sufficient for you (against) the mockers

Verse 96

ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose who
يَجْعَلُونَyajʿalūnaset up
مَعَmaʿawith
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
إِلَـٰهًاilāhangod
ءَاخَرَ ۚākharaanother
فَسَوْفَfasawfaBut soon
يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnathey will come to know

Translation

Those who set up with Allah god another But soon they will come to know

Verse 97

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd verily
نَعْلَمُnaʿlamuWe know
أَنَّكَannakathat [you]
يَضِيقُyaḍīqu(is) straitened
صَدْرُكَṣadrukayour breast
بِمَاbimāby what
يَقُولُونَyaqūlūnathey say

Translation

And verily We know that [you] (is) straitened your breast by what they say

Verse 98

فَسَبِّحْfasabbiḥSo glorify
بِحَمْدِbiḥamdiwith the praise
رَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lord
وَكُنwakunand be
مِّنَminaof
ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَl-sājidīnathose who prostrate

Translation

So glorify with the praise (of) your Lord and be of those who prostrate

Verse 99

وَٱعْبُدْwa-uʿ'budAnd worship
رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lord
حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
يَأْتِيَكَyatiyakacomes to you
ٱلْيَقِينُl-yaqīnuthe certainty

Translation

And worship your Lord until comes to you the certainty
