Chapter 21Meccan112 Verses

Verse 1

ٱقْتَرَبَiq'taraba(Has) approached
لِلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor [the] mankind
حِسَابُهُمْḥisābuhumtheir account
وَهُمْwahumwhile they
فِىfī(are) in
غَفْلَةٍۢghaflatinheedlessness
مُّعْرِضُونَmuʿ'riḍūnaturning away

Translation

(Has) approached for [the] mankind their account while they (are) in heedlessness turning away

Verse 2

مَاmāNot
يَأْتِيهِمyatīhimcomes to them
مِّنminof
ذِكْرٍۢdhik'rina Reminder
مِّنminfrom
رَّبِّهِمrabbihimtheir Lord
مُّحْدَثٍmuḥ'dathinanew
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱسْتَمَعُوهُis'tamaʿūhuthey listen to it
وَهُمْwahumwhile they
يَلْعَبُونَyalʿabūna(are at) play

Translation

Not comes to them of a Reminder from their Lord anew except they listen to it while they (are at) play

Verse 3

لَاهِيَةًۭlāhiyatanDistracted
قُلُوبُهُمْ ۗqulūbuhumtheir hearts
وَأَسَرُّوا۟wa-asarrūAnd they conceal
ٱلنَّجْوَىl-najwāthe private conversation
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ظَلَمُوا۟ẓalamū[they] wronged
هَلْhalIs
هَـٰذَآhādhāthis
إِلَّاillāexcept
بَشَرٌۭbasharuna human being
مِّثْلُكُمْ ۖmith'lukumlike you
أَفَتَأْتُونَafatatūnaSo would you approach
ٱلسِّحْرَl-siḥ'rathe magic
وَأَنتُمْwa-antumwhile you
تُبْصِرُونَtub'ṣirūnasee (it)

Translation

Distracted their hearts And they conceal the private conversation those who [they] wronged Is this except a human being like you So would you approach the magic while you see (it)

Verse 4

قَالَqālaHe said
رَبِّىrabbīMy Lord
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknows
ٱلْقَوْلَl-qawlathe word
فِىfīin
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖwal-arḍiand the earth
وَهُوَwahuwaAnd He
ٱلسَّمِيعُl-samīʿu(is) the All-Hearer
ٱلْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmuthe All-Knower

Translation

He said My Lord knows the word in the heavens and the earth And He (is) the All-Hearer the All-Knower

Verse 5

بَلْbalNay
قَالُوٓا۟qālūthey say
أَضْغَـٰثُaḍghāthuMuddled
أَحْلَـٰمٍۭaḥlāmindreams
بَلِbalinay
ٱفْتَرَىٰهُif'tarāhuhe (has) invented it
بَلْbalnay
هُوَhuwahe
شَاعِرٌۭshāʿirun(is) a poet
فَلْيَأْتِنَاfalyatināSo let him bring us
بِـَٔايَةٍۢbiāyatina sign
كَمَآkamālike what
أُرْسِلَur'silawas sent
ٱلْأَوَّلُونَl-awalūna(to) the former

Translation

Nay they say Muddled dreams nay he (has) invented it nay he (is) a poet So let him bring us a sign like what was sent (to) the former

Verse 6

مَآmāNot
ءَامَنَتْāmanatbelieved
قَبْلَهُمqablahumbefore them
مِّنminany
قَرْيَةٍqaryatintown
أَهْلَكْنَـٰهَآ ۖahlaknāhāwhich We destroyed
أَفَهُمْafahumso will they
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnabelieve

Translation

Not believed before them any town which We destroyed so will they believe

Verse 7

وَمَآwamāAnd not
أَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sent
قَبْلَكَqablakabefore you
إِلَّاillāexcept
رِجَالًۭاrijālanmen
نُّوحِىٓnūḥīWe revealed
إِلَيْهِمْ ۖilayhimto them
فَسْـَٔلُوٓا۟fasalūSo ask
أَهْلَahla(the) people
ٱلذِّكْرِl-dhik'ri(of) the Reminder
إِنinif
كُنتُمْkuntumyou
لَاlā(do) not
تَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūnaknow

Translation

And not We sent before you except men We revealed to them So ask (the) people (of) the Reminder if you (do) not know

Verse 8

وَمَاwamāAnd not
جَعَلْنَـٰهُمْjaʿalnāhumWe made them
جَسَدًۭاjasadanbodies
لَّاlānot
يَأْكُلُونَyakulūnaeating
ٱلطَّعَامَl-ṭaʿāmathe food
وَمَاwamāand not
كَانُوا۟kānūthey were
خَـٰلِدِينَkhālidīnaimmortals

Translation

And not We made them bodies not eating the food and not they were immortals

Verse 9

ثُمَّthummaThen
صَدَقْنَـٰهُمُṣadaqnāhumuWe fulfilled (for) them
ٱلْوَعْدَl-waʿdathe promise
فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُمْfa-anjaynāhumand We saved them
وَمَنwamanand whom
نَّشَآءُnashāuWe willed
وَأَهْلَكْنَاwa-ahlaknāand We destroyed
ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَl-mus'rifīnathe transgressors

Translation

Then We fulfilled (for) them the promise and We saved them and whom We willed and We destroyed the transgressors

Verse 10

لَقَدْlaqadIndeed
أَنزَلْنَآanzalnāWe (have) sent down
إِلَيْكُمْilaykumto you
كِتَـٰبًۭاkitābana Book
فِيهِfīhiin it
ذِكْرُكُمْ ۖdhik'rukum(is) your mention
أَفَلَاafalāThen will not
تَعْقِلُونَtaʿqilūnayou use reason

Translation

Indeed We (have) sent down to you a Book in it (is) your mention Then will not you use reason

Verse 11

وَكَمْwakamAnd how many
قَصَمْنَاqaṣamnāWe (have) shattered
مِنminof
قَرْيَةٍۢqaryatina town
كَانَتْkānat(that) was
ظَالِمَةًۭẓālimatanunjust
وَأَنشَأْنَاwa-anshanāand We produced
بَعْدَهَاbaʿdahāafter them
قَوْمًاqawmananother people
ءَاخَرِينَākharīnaanother people

Translation

And how many We (have) shattered of a town (that) was unjust and We produced after them another people another people

Verse 12

فَلَمَّآfalammāThen when
أَحَسُّوا۟aḥassūthey perceived
بَأْسَنَآbasanāOur torment
إِذَاidhābehold
هُمhumthey
مِّنْهَاmin'hāfrom it
يَرْكُضُونَyarkuḍūnawere fleeing

Translation

Then when they perceived Our torment behold they from it were fleeing

Verse 13

لَاlāFlee not
تَرْكُضُوا۟tarkuḍūFlee not
وَٱرْجِعُوٓا۟wa-ir'jiʿūbut return
إِلَىٰilāto
مَآmāwhat
أُتْرِفْتُمْut'rif'tumyou were given luxury
فِيهِfīhiin it
وَمَسَـٰكِنِكُمْwamasākinikumand to your homes
لَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you may
تُسْـَٔلُونَtus'alūnabe questioned

Translation

Flee not Flee not but return to what you were given luxury in it and to your homes so that you may be questioned

Verse 14

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
يَـٰوَيْلَنَآyāwaylanāO woe to us
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, [we]
كُنَّاkunnāwe were
ظَـٰلِمِينَẓālimīnawrongdoers

Translation

They said O woe to us Indeed, [we] we were wrongdoers

Verse 15

فَمَاfamāThen not
زَالَتzālatceased
تِّلْكَtil'ka[this]
دَعْوَىٰهُمْdaʿwāhumtheir cry
حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
جَعَلْنَـٰهُمْjaʿalnāhumWe made them
حَصِيدًاḥaṣīdanreaped
خَـٰمِدِينَkhāmidīnaextinct

Translation

Then not ceased [this] their cry until We made them reaped extinct

Verse 16

وَمَاwamāAnd not
خَلَقْنَاkhalaqnāWe created
ٱلسَّمَآءَl-samāathe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earth
وَمَاwamāand what
بَيْنَهُمَاbaynahumā(is) between them
لَـٰعِبِينَlāʿibīna(for) playing

Translation

And not We created the heavens and the earth and what (is) between them (for) playing

Verse 17

لَوْlawIf
أَرَدْنَآaradnāWe intended
أَنanthat
نَّتَّخِذَnattakhidhaWe take
لَهْوًۭاlahwana pastime
لَّٱتَّخَذْنَـٰهُla-ittakhadhnāhusurely We (could have) taken it
مِنminfrom
لَّدُنَّآladunnāUs
إِنinif
كُنَّاkunnāWe were
فَـٰعِلِينَfāʿilīnadoers

Translation

If We intended that We take a pastime surely We (could have) taken it from Us if We were doers

Verse 18

بَلْbalNay
نَقْذِفُnaqdhifuWe hurl
بِٱلْحَقِّbil-ḥaqithe truth
عَلَىʿalāagainst
ٱلْبَـٰطِلِl-bāṭili[the] falsehood
فَيَدْمَغُهُۥfayadmaghuhuand it breaks its head
فَإِذَاfa-idhābehold
هُوَhuwait (is)
زَاهِقٌۭ ۚzāhiqunvanishing
وَلَكُمُwalakumuAnd for you
ٱلْوَيْلُl-waylu(is) destruction
مِمَّاmimmāfor what
تَصِفُونَtaṣifūnayou ascribe

Translation

Nay We hurl the truth against [the] falsehood and it breaks its head behold it (is) vanishing And for you (is) destruction for what you ascribe

Verse 19

وَلَهُۥwalahuAnd to Him (belongs)
مَنmanwhoever
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚwal-arḍiand the earth
وَمَنْwamanAnd (those) who
عِندَهُۥʿindahu(are) near Him
لَاlānot
يَسْتَكْبِرُونَyastakbirūnathey are arrogant
عَنْʿanto
عِبَادَتِهِۦʿibādatihiworship Him
وَلَاwalāand not
يَسْتَحْسِرُونَyastaḥsirūnathey tire

Translation

And to Him (belongs) whoever (is) in the heavens and the earth And (those) who (are) near Him not they are arrogant to worship Him and not they tire

Verse 20

يُسَبِّحُونَyusabbiḥūnaThey glorify (Him)
ٱلَّيْلَal-layla[the] night
وَٱلنَّهَارَwal-nahāraand [the] day
لَاlānot
يَفْتُرُونَyafturūnathey slacken

Translation

They glorify (Him) [the] night and [the] day not they slacken

Verse 21

أَمِamiOr
ٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟ittakhadhū(have) they taken
ءَالِهَةًۭālihatangods
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
هُمْhumthey
يُنشِرُونَyunshirūnaraise (the dead)

Translation

Or (have) they taken gods from the earth they raise (the dead)

Verse 22

لَوْlawIf
كَانَkāna(there) were
فِيهِمَآfīhimāin both of them
ءَالِهَةٌālihatungods
إِلَّاillābesides
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
لَفَسَدَتَا ۚlafasadatāsurely they (would) have been ruined
فَسُبْحَـٰنَfasub'ḥānaSo glorified
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(is) Allah
رَبِّrabbiLord
ٱلْعَرْشِl-ʿarshi(of) the Throne
عَمَّاʿammā(above) what
يَصِفُونَyaṣifūnathey attribute

Translation

If (there) were in both of them gods besides Allah surely they (would) have been ruined So glorified (is) Allah Lord (of) the Throne (above) what they attribute

Verse 23

لَاlāNot
يُسْـَٔلُyus'aluHe (can) be questioned
عَمَّاʿammāabout what
يَفْعَلُyafʿaluHe does
وَهُمْwahumbut they
يُسْـَٔلُونَyus'alūnawill be questioned

Translation

Not He (can) be questioned about what He does but they will be questioned

Verse 24

أَمِamiOr
ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ittakhadhū(have) they taken
مِنminbesides Him
دُونِهِۦٓdūnihibesides Him
ءَالِهَةًۭ ۖālihatangods
قُلْqulSay
هَاتُوا۟hātūBring
بُرْهَـٰنَكُمْ ۖbur'hānakumyour proof
هَـٰذَاhādhāThis
ذِكْرُdhik'ru(is) a Reminder
مَنman(for those) who
مَّعِىَmaʿiya(are) with me
وَذِكْرُwadhik'ruand a Reminder
مَنman(for those) who
قَبْلِى ۗqablī(were) before me
بَلْbalBut
أَكْثَرُهُمْaktharuhummost of them
لَاlā(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow
ٱلْحَقَّ ۖl-ḥaqathe truth
فَهُمfahumso they
مُّعْرِضُونَmuʿ'riḍūna(are) averse

Translation

Or (have) they taken besides Him besides Him gods Say Bring your proof This (is) a Reminder (for those) who (are) with me and a Reminder (for those) who (were) before me But most of them (do) not know the truth so they (are) averse

Verse 25

وَمَآwamāAnd not
أَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sent
مِنminbefore you
قَبْلِكَqablikabefore you
مِنminany
رَّسُولٍrasūlinMessenger
إِلَّاillābut
نُوحِىٓnūḥīWe reveal(ed)
إِلَيْهِilayhito him
أَنَّهُۥannahuthat [He]
لَآlā(There is) no
إِلَـٰهَilāhagod
إِلَّآillāexcept
أَنَا۠anāMe
فَٱعْبُدُونِfa-uʿ'budūniso worship Me

Translation

And not We sent before you before you any Messenger but We reveal(ed) to him that [He] (There is) no god except Me so worship Me

Verse 26

وَقَالُوا۟waqālūAnd they say
ٱتَّخَذَittakhadhaHas taken
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُl-raḥmānuthe Most Gracious
وَلَدًۭا ۗwaladana son
سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥ ۚsub'ḥānahuGlorified is He
بَلْbalNay
عِبَادٌۭʿibādun(they are) slaves
مُّكْرَمُونَmuk'ramūnahonored

Translation

And they say Has taken the Most Gracious a son Glorified is He Nay (they are) slaves honored

Verse 27

لَاlāNot
يَسْبِقُونَهُۥyasbiqūnahuthey (can) precede Him
بِٱلْقَوْلِbil-qawliin word
وَهُمwahumand they
بِأَمْرِهِۦbi-amrihiby His command
يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnaact

Translation

Not they (can) precede Him in word and they by His command act

Verse 28

يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuHe knows
مَاmāwhat
بَيْنَbayna(is) before them
أَيْدِيهِمْaydīhim(is) before them
وَمَاwamāand what
خَلْفَهُمْkhalfahum(is) behind them
وَلَاwalāand not
يَشْفَعُونَyashfaʿūnathey (can) intercede
إِلَّاillāexcept
لِمَنِlimanifor whom
ٱرْتَضَىٰir'taḍāHe approves
وَهُمwahumAnd they
مِّنْminfrom
خَشْيَتِهِۦkhashyatihifear of Him
مُشْفِقُونَmush'fiqūnastand in awe

Translation

He knows what (is) before them (is) before them and what (is) behind them and not they (can) intercede except for whom He approves And they from fear of Him stand in awe

Verse 29

۞ وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
يَقُلْyaqulsays
مِنْهُمْmin'humof them
إِنِّىٓinnīIndeed, I am
إِلَـٰهٌۭilāhuna god
مِّنminbesides Him
دُونِهِۦdūnihibesides Him
فَذَٰلِكَfadhālikaThen that
نَجْزِيهِnajzīhiWe will recompense
جَهَنَّمَ ۚjahannama(with) Hell
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
نَجْزِىnajzīWe recompense
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers

Translation

And whoever says of them Indeed, I am a god besides Him besides Him Then that We will recompense (with) Hell Thus We recompense the wrongdoers

Verse 30

أَوَلَمْawalamDo not
يَرَyarasee
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوٓا۟kafarūdisbelieved
أَنَّannathat
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earth
كَانَتَاkānatāwere
رَتْقًۭاratqana joined entity
فَفَتَقْنَـٰهُمَا ۖfafataqnāhumāthen We parted them
وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāand We made
مِنَminafrom
ٱلْمَآءِl-māi[the] water
كُلَّkullaevery
شَىْءٍshayinliving thing
حَىٍّ ۖḥayyinliving thing
أَفَلَاafalāThen will not
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnathey believe

Translation

Do not see those who disbelieved that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity then We parted them and We made from [the] water every living thing living thing Then will not they believe

Verse 31

وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāAnd We (have) placed
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
رَوَٰسِىَrawāsiyafirmly set mountains
أَنanlest
تَمِيدَtamīdait (should) shake
بِهِمْbihimwith them
وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāand We made
فِيهَاfīhātherein
فِجَاجًۭاfijājanbroad passes
سُبُلًۭاsubulan(as) ways
لَّعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumso that they may
يَهْتَدُونَyahtadūna(be) guided

Translation

And We (have) placed in the earth firmly set mountains lest it (should) shake with them and We made therein broad passes (as) ways so that they may (be) guided

Verse 32

وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāAnd We made
ٱلسَّمَآءَl-samāathe sky
سَقْفًۭاsaqfana roof
مَّحْفُوظًۭا ۖmaḥfūẓanprotected
وَهُمْwahumBut they
عَنْʿanfrom
ءَايَـٰتِهَاāyātihāits Signs
مُعْرِضُونَmuʿ'riḍūnaturn away

Translation

And We made the sky a roof protected But they from its Signs turn away

Verse 33

وَهُوَwahuwaAnd He
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Who
خَلَقَkhalaqacreated
ٱلَّيْلَal-laylathe night
وَٱلنَّهَارَwal-nahāraand the day
وَٱلشَّمْسَwal-shamsaand the sun
وَٱلْقَمَرَ ۖwal-qamaraand the moon
كُلٌّۭkulluneach
فِىfīin
فَلَكٍۢfalakinan orbit
يَسْبَحُونَyasbaḥūnafloating

Translation

And He (is) the One Who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon each in an orbit floating

Verse 34

وَمَاwamāAnd not
جَعَلْنَاjaʿalnāWe made
لِبَشَرٍۢlibasharinfor any man
مِّنminbefore you
قَبْلِكَqablikabefore you
ٱلْخُلْدَ ۖl-khul'da[the] immortality
أَفَإِي۟نafa-inso if
مِّتَّmittayou die
فَهُمُfahumuthen (would) they
ٱلْخَـٰلِدُونَl-khālidūnalive forever

Translation

And not We made for any man before you before you [the] immortality so if you die then (would) they live forever

Verse 35

كُلُّkulluEvery
نَفْسٍۢnafsinsoul
ذَآئِقَةُdhāiqatu(will) taste
ٱلْمَوْتِ ۗl-mawti[the] death
وَنَبْلُوكُمwanablūkumAnd We test you
بِٱلشَّرِّbil-shariwith [the] bad
وَٱلْخَيْرِwal-khayriand [the] good
فِتْنَةًۭ ۖfit'natan(as) a trial
وَإِلَيْنَاwa-ilaynāand to Us
تُرْجَعُونَtur'jaʿūnayou will be returned

Translation

Every soul (will) taste [the] death And We test you with [the] bad and [the] good (as) a trial and to Us you will be returned

Verse 36

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
رَءَاكَraākathey see you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوٓا۟kafarūdisbelieve
إِنinnot
يَتَّخِذُونَكَyattakhidhūnakathey take you
إِلَّاillāexcept
هُزُوًاhuzuwan(in) ridicule
أَهَـٰذَاahādhāIs this
ٱلَّذِىalladhīthe one who
يَذْكُرُyadhkurumentions
ءَالِهَتَكُمْālihatakumyour gods
وَهُمwahumAnd they
بِذِكْرِbidhik'riat (the) mention
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāni(of) the Most Gracious
هُمْhum[they]
كَـٰفِرُونَkāfirūna(are) disbelievers

Translation

And when they see you those who disbelieve not they take you except (in) ridicule Is this the one who mentions your gods And they at (the) mention (of) the Most Gracious [they] (are) disbelievers

Verse 37

خُلِقَkhuliqaIs created
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānuthe man
مِنْminof
عَجَلٍۢ ۚʿajalinhaste
سَأُو۟رِيكُمْsa-urīkumI will show you
ءَايَـٰتِىāyātīMy Signs
فَلَاfalāso (do) not
تَسْتَعْجِلُونِtastaʿjilūniask Me to hasten

Translation

Is created the man of haste I will show you My Signs so (do) not ask Me to hasten

Verse 38

وَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaAnd they say
مَتَىٰmatāWhen (will be fulfilled)
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
ٱلْوَعْدُl-waʿdupromise
إِنinif
كُنتُمْkuntumyou are
صَـٰدِقِينَṣādiqīnatruthful

Translation

And they say When (will be fulfilled) this promise if you are truthful

Verse 39

لَوْlawIf
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknew
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
حِينَḥīna(the) time
لَاlā(when) not
يَكُفُّونَyakuffūnathey will avert
عَنʿanfrom
وُجُوهِهِمُwujūhihimutheir faces
ٱلنَّارَl-nārathe Fire
وَلَاwalāand not
عَنʿanfrom
ظُهُورِهِمْẓuhūrihimtheir backs
وَلَاwalāand not
هُمْhumthey
يُنصَرُونَyunṣarūnawill be helped

Translation

If knew those who disbelieved (the) time (when) not they will avert from their faces the Fire and not from their backs and not they will be helped

Verse 40

بَلْbalNay
تَأْتِيهِمtatīhimit will come to them
بَغْتَةًۭbaghtatanunexpectedly
فَتَبْهَتُهُمْfatabhatuhumand bewilder them
فَلَاfalāthen not
يَسْتَطِيعُونَyastaṭīʿūnathey will be able
رَدَّهَاraddahāto repel it
وَلَاwalāand not
هُمْhumthey
يُنظَرُونَyunẓarūnawill be given respite

Translation

Nay it will come to them unexpectedly and bewilder them then not they will be able to repel it and not they will be given respite

Verse 41

وَلَقَدِwalaqadiAnd verily
ٱسْتُهْزِئَus'tuh'zi-awere mocked
بِرُسُلٍۢbirusulinMessengers
مِّنminbefore you
قَبْلِكَqablikabefore you
فَحَاقَfaḥāqathen surrounded
بِٱلَّذِينَbi-alladhīnathose who
سَخِرُوا۟sakhirūmocked
مِنْهُمmin'humfrom them
مَّاmāwhat
كَانُوا۟kānūthey used
بِهِۦbihiat it
يَسْتَهْزِءُونَyastahziūna(to) mock

Translation

And verily were mocked Messengers before you before you then surrounded those who mocked from them what they used at it (to) mock

Verse 42

قُلْqulSay
مَنmanWho
يَكْلَؤُكُمyakla-ukum(can) protect you
بِٱلَّيْلِbi-al-layliin the night
وَٱلنَّهَارِwal-nahāriand the day
مِنَminafrom
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۗl-raḥmānithe Most Gracious
بَلْbalYet
هُمْhumthey
عَنʿanfrom
ذِكْرِdhik'ri(the) remembrance
رَبِّهِمrabbihim(of) their Lord
مُّعْرِضُونَmuʿ'riḍūnaturn away

Translation

Say Who (can) protect you in the night and the day from the Most Gracious Yet they from (the) remembrance (of) their Lord turn away

Verse 43

أَمْamOr
لَهُمْlahumhave they
ءَالِهَةٌۭālihatungods
تَمْنَعُهُمtamnaʿuhum(to) defend them
مِّنminfrom
دُونِنَا ۚdūnināUs
لَاlāNot
يَسْتَطِيعُونَyastaṭīʿūnathey are able
نَصْرَnaṣra(to) help
أَنفُسِهِمْanfusihimthemselves
وَلَاwalāand not
هُمhumthey
مِّنَّاminnāfrom Us
يُصْحَبُونَyuṣ'ḥabūnacan be protected

Translation

Or have they gods (to) defend them from Us Not they are able (to) help themselves and not they from Us can be protected

Verse 44

بَلْbalNay
مَتَّعْنَاmattaʿnāWe gave provision
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāi(to) these
وَءَابَآءَهُمْwaābāahumand their fathers
حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
طَالَṭālagrew long
عَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimufor them
ٱلْعُمُرُ ۗl-ʿumuruthe life
أَفَلَاafalāThen do not
يَرَوْنَyarawnathey see
أَنَّاannāthat We
نَأْتِىnatīWe come
ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍa(to) the land
نَنقُصُهَاnanquṣuhāWe reduce it
مِنْminfrom
أَطْرَافِهَآ ۚaṭrāfihāits borders
أَفَهُمُafahumuSo is (it) they
ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَl-ghālibūna(who will be) overcoming

Translation

Nay We gave provision (to) these and their fathers until grew long for them the life Then do not they see that We We come (to) the land We reduce it from its borders So is (it) they (who will be) overcoming

Verse 45

قُلْqulSay
إِنَّمَآinnamāOnly
أُنذِرُكُمundhirukumI warn you
بِٱلْوَحْىِ ۚbil-waḥyiby the revelation
وَلَاwalāBut not
يَسْمَعُyasmaʿuhear
ٱلصُّمُّl-ṣumuthe deaf
ٱلدُّعَآءَl-duʿāathe call
إِذَاidhāwhen
مَاmāwhen
يُنذَرُونَyundharūnathey are warned

Translation

Say Only I warn you by the revelation But not hear the deaf the call when when they are warned

Verse 46

وَلَئِنwala-inAnd if
مَّسَّتْهُمْmassathumtouches them
نَفْحَةٌۭnafḥatuna whiff
مِّنْminof
عَذَابِʿadhābi(the) punishment
رَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lord
لَيَقُولُنَّlayaqūlunnasurely they will say
يَـٰوَيْلَنَآyāwaylanāO woe to us
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, we
كُنَّاkunnā[we] were
ظَـٰلِمِينَẓālimīnawrongdoers

Translation

And if touches them a whiff of (the) punishment (of) your Lord surely they will say O woe to us Indeed, we [we] were wrongdoers

Verse 47

وَنَضَعُwanaḍaʿuAnd We set
ٱلْمَوَٰزِينَl-mawāzīnathe scales
ٱلْقِسْطَl-qis'ṭa(of) the justice
لِيَوْمِliyawmifor (the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
فَلَاfalāso not
تُظْلَمُtuẓ'lamuwill be wronged
نَفْسٌۭnafsunany soul
شَيْـًۭٔا ۖshayan(in) anything
وَإِنwa-inAnd if
كَانَkāna(there) be
مِثْقَالَmith'qālaweight
حَبَّةٍۢḥabbatin(of) a seed
مِّنْminof
خَرْدَلٍkhardalina mustard
أَتَيْنَاataynāWe will bring
بِهَا ۗbihā[with] it
وَكَفَىٰwakafāAnd sufficient
بِنَاbinā(are) We
حَـٰسِبِينَḥāsibīna(as) Reckoners

Translation

And We set the scales (of) the justice for (the) Day (of) the Resurrection so not will be wronged any soul (in) anything And if (there) be weight (of) a seed of a mustard We will bring [with] it And sufficient (are) We (as) Reckoners

Verse 48

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd verily
ءَاتَيْنَاātaynāWe gave
مُوسَىٰmūsāMusa
وَهَـٰرُونَwahārūnaand Harun
ٱلْفُرْقَانَl-fur'qānathe Criterion
وَضِيَآءًۭwaḍiyāanand a light
وَذِكْرًۭاwadhik'ranand a Reminder
لِّلْمُتَّقِينَlil'muttaqīnafor the righteous

Translation

And verily We gave Musa and Harun the Criterion and a light and a Reminder for the righteous

Verse 49

ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose who
يَخْشَوْنَyakhshawnafear
رَبَّهُمrabbahumtheir Lord
بِٱلْغَيْبِbil-ghaybiin the unseen
وَهُمwahumand they
مِّنَminaof
ٱلسَّاعَةِl-sāʿatithe Hour
مُشْفِقُونَmush'fiqūna(are) afraid

Translation

Those who fear their Lord in the unseen and they of the Hour (are) afraid

Verse 50

وَهَـٰذَاwahādhāAnd this
ذِكْرٌۭdhik'run(is) a Reminder
مُّبَارَكٌmubārakunblessed
أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ ۚanzalnāhuwhich We (have) revealed
أَفَأَنتُمْafa-antumThen are you
لَهُۥlahuof it
مُنكِرُونَmunkirūnarejecters

Translation

And this (is) a Reminder blessed which We (have) revealed Then are you of it rejecters

Verse 51

۞ وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd verily
ءَاتَيْنَآātaynāWe gave
إِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīmaIbrahim
رُشْدَهُۥrush'dahuhis guidance
مِنminbefore
قَبْلُqablubefore
وَكُنَّاwakunnāand We were
بِهِۦbihiabout him
عَـٰلِمِينَʿālimīnaWell-Knowing

Translation

And verily We gave Ibrahim his guidance before before and We were about him Well-Knowing

Verse 52

إِذْidhWhen
قَالَqālahe said
لِأَبِيهِli-abīhito his father
وَقَوْمِهِۦwaqawmihiand his people
مَاmāWhat
هَـٰذِهِhādhihi(are) these
ٱلتَّمَاثِيلُl-tamāthīlu[the] statues
ٱلَّتِىٓallatīwhich
أَنتُمْantumyou
لَهَاlahāto it
عَـٰكِفُونَʿākifūna(are) devoted

Translation

When he said to his father and his people What (are) these [the] statues which you to it (are) devoted

Verse 53

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
وَجَدْنَآwajadnāWe found
ءَابَآءَنَاābāanāour forefathers
لَهَاlahāof them
عَـٰبِدِينَʿābidīnaworshippers

Translation

They said We found our forefathers of them worshippers

Verse 54

قَالَqālaHe said
لَقَدْlaqadVerily
كُنتُمْkuntumyou are
أَنتُمْantum[you]
وَءَابَآؤُكُمْwaābāukumand your forefathers
فِىfī(were) in
ضَلَـٰلٍۢḍalālinan error
مُّبِينٍۢmubīninmanifest

Translation

He said Verily you are [you] and your forefathers (were) in an error manifest

Verse 55

قَالُوٓا۟qālūThey said
أَجِئْتَنَاaji'tanāHave you come to us
بِٱلْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiwith the truth
أَمْamor
أَنتَantayou
مِنَmina(are) of
ٱللَّـٰعِبِينَl-lāʿibīnathose who play

Translation

They said Have you come to us with the truth or you (are) of those who play

Verse 56

قَالَqālaHe said
بَلbalNay
رَّبُّكُمْrabbukumyour Lord
رَبُّrabbu(is the) Lord
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth
ٱلَّذِىalladhīthe One Who
فَطَرَهُنَّfaṭarahunnacreated them
وَأَنَا۠wa-anāand I am
عَلَىٰʿalāto
ذَٰلِكُمdhālikumthat
مِّنَminaof
ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَl-shāhidīnathe witnesses

Translation

He said Nay your Lord (is the) Lord (of) the heavens and the earth the One Who created them and I am to that of the witnesses

Verse 57

وَتَٱللَّهِwatal-lahiAnd by Allah
لَأَكِيدَنَّla-akīdannasurely, I will plan
أَصْنَـٰمَكُمaṣnāmakum(against) your idols
بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
أَنan[that]
تُوَلُّوا۟tuwallūyou go away
مُدْبِرِينَmud'birīnaturning (your) backs

Translation

And by Allah surely, I will plan (against) your idols after [that] you go away turning (your) backs

Verse 58

فَجَعَلَهُمْfajaʿalahumSo he made them
جُذَٰذًاjudhādhan(into) pieces
إِلَّاillāexcept
كَبِيرًۭاkabīrana large (one)
لَّهُمْlahumof them
لَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumso that they may
إِلَيْهِilayhito it
يَرْجِعُونَyarjiʿūnareturn

Translation

So he made them (into) pieces except a large (one) of them so that they may to it return

Verse 59

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
مَنmanWho
فَعَلَfaʿala(has) done
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
بِـَٔالِهَتِنَآbiālihatināto our gods
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, he
لَمِنَlamina(is) of
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers

Translation

They said Who (has) done this to our gods Indeed, he (is) of the wrongdoers

Verse 60

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
سَمِعْنَاsamiʿ'nāWe heard
فَتًۭىfatana youth
يَذْكُرُهُمْyadhkuruhummention them
يُقَالُyuqāluhe is called
لَهُۥٓlahuhe is called
إِبْرَٰهِيمُib'rāhīmuIbrahim

Translation

They said We heard a youth mention them he is called he is called Ibrahim

Verse 61

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
فَأْتُوا۟fatūThen bring
بِهِۦbihihim
عَلَىٰٓʿalābefore
أَعْيُنِaʿyuni(the) eyes
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi(of) the people
لَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumso that they may
يَشْهَدُونَyashhadūnabear witness

Translation

They said Then bring him before (the) eyes (of) the people so that they may bear witness

Verse 62

قَالُوٓا۟qālūThey said
ءَأَنتَa-antaHave you
فَعَلْتَfaʿaltadone
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
بِـَٔالِهَتِنَاbiālihatināto our gods
يَـٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُyāib'rāhīmuO Ibrahim

Translation

They said Have you done this to our gods O Ibrahim

Verse 63

قَالَqālaHe said
بَلْbalNay
فَعَلَهُۥfaʿalahu(some doer) did it
كَبِيرُهُمْkabīruhumTheir chief
هَـٰذَاhādhā(is) this
فَسْـَٔلُوهُمْfasalūhumSo ask them
إِنinif
كَانُوا۟kānūthey (can)
يَنطِقُونَyanṭiqūnaspeak

Translation

He said Nay (some doer) did it Their chief (is) this So ask them if they (can) speak

Verse 64

فَرَجَعُوٓا۟farajaʿūSo they returned
إِلَىٰٓilāto
أَنفُسِهِمْanfusihimthemselves
فَقَالُوٓا۟faqālūand said
إِنَّكُمْinnakumIndeed, you
أَنتُمُantumu[you]
ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَl-ẓālimūna(are) the wrongdoers

Translation

So they returned to themselves and said Indeed, you [you] (are) the wrongdoers

Verse 65

ثُمَّthummaThen
نُكِسُوا۟nukisūthey were turned
عَلَىٰʿalāon
رُءُوسِهِمْruūsihimtheir heads
لَقَدْlaqadVerily
عَلِمْتَʿalim'tayou know
مَاmānot
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāithese
يَنطِقُونَyanṭiqūna(can) speak

Translation

Then they were turned on their heads Verily you know not these (can) speak

Verse 66

قَالَqālaHe said
أَفَتَعْبُدُونَafataʿbudūnaThen do you worship
مِنminbesides
دُونِdūnibesides
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
مَاmāwhat
لَاlā(does) not
يَنفَعُكُمْyanfaʿukumbenefit you
شَيْـًۭٔاshayan(in) anything
وَلَاwalāand not
يَضُرُّكُمْyaḍurrukumharms you

Translation

He said Then do you worship besides besides Allah what (does) not benefit you (in) anything and not harms you

Verse 67

أُفٍّۢuffinUff
لَّكُمْlakumto you
وَلِمَاwalimāand to what
تَعْبُدُونَtaʿbudūnayou worship
مِنminbesides
دُونِdūnibesides
ٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahiAllah
أَفَلَاafalāThen will not
تَعْقِلُونَtaʿqilūnayou use reason

Translation

Uff to you and to what you worship besides besides Allah Then will not you use reason

Verse 68

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
حَرِّقُوهُḥarriqūhuBurn him
وَٱنصُرُوٓا۟wa-unṣurūand support
ءَالِهَتَكُمْālihatakumyour gods
إِنinif
كُنتُمْkuntumyou are
فَـٰعِلِينَfāʿilīnadoers

Translation

They said Burn him and support your gods if you are doers

Verse 69

قُلْنَاqul'nāWe said
يَـٰنَارُyānāruO fire
كُونِىkūnīBe
بَرْدًۭاbardancool[ness]
وَسَلَـٰمًاwasalāmanand safe[ty]
عَلَىٰٓʿalāfor
إِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīmaIbrahim

Translation

We said O fire Be cool[ness] and safe[ty] for Ibrahim

Verse 70

وَأَرَادُوا۟wa-arādūAnd they intended
بِهِۦbihifor him
كَيْدًۭاkaydana plan
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمُfajaʿalnāhumubut We made them
ٱلْأَخْسَرِينَl-akhsarīnathe greatest losers

Translation

And they intended for him a plan but We made them the greatest losers

Verse 71

وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُwanajjaynāhuAnd We delivered him
وَلُوطًاwalūṭanand Lut
إِلَىilāto
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe land
ٱلَّتِىallatīwhich
بَـٰرَكْنَاbāraknāWe (had) blessed
فِيهَاfīhā[in it]
لِلْعَـٰلَمِينَlil'ʿālamīnafor the worlds

Translation

And We delivered him and Lut to the land which We (had) blessed [in it] for the worlds

Verse 72

وَوَهَبْنَاwawahabnāAnd We bestowed
لَهُۥٓlahuon him
إِسْحَـٰقَis'ḥāqaIsaac
وَيَعْقُوبَwayaʿqūbaand Yaqub
نَافِلَةًۭ ۖnāfilatan(in) addition
وَكُلًّۭاwakullanand all
جَعَلْنَاjaʿalnāWe made
صَـٰلِحِينَṣāliḥīnarighteous

Translation

And We bestowed on him Isaac and Yaqub (in) addition and all We made righteous

Verse 73

وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْwajaʿalnāhumAnd We made them
أَئِمَّةًۭa-immatanleaders
يَهْدُونَyahdūnathey guide
بِأَمْرِنَاbi-amrināby Our Command
وَأَوْحَيْنَآwa-awḥaynāAnd We inspired
إِلَيْهِمْilayhimto them
فِعْلَfiʿ'la(the) doing
ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِl-khayrāti(of) good deeds
وَإِقَامَwa-iqāmaand establishment
ٱلصَّلَوٰةِl-ṣalati(of) the prayer
وَإِيتَآءَwaītāaand giving
ٱلزَّكَوٰةِ ۖl-zakati(of) zakah
وَكَانُوا۟wakānūand they were
لَنَاlanāof Us
عَـٰبِدِينَʿābidīnaworshippers

Translation

And We made them leaders they guide by Our Command And We inspired to them (the) doing (of) good deeds and establishment (of) the prayer and giving (of) zakah and they were of Us worshippers

Verse 74

وَلُوطًاwalūṭanAnd (to) Lut
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُātaynāhuWe gave him
حُكْمًۭاḥuk'manjudgment
وَعِلْمًۭاwaʿil'manand knowledge
وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُwanajjaynāhuand We saved him
مِنَminafrom
ٱلْقَرْيَةِl-qaryatithe town
ٱلَّتِىallatīwhich
كَانَتkānatwas
تَّعْمَلُtaʿmaludoing
ٱلْخَبَـٰٓئِثَ ۗl-khabāithawicked deeds
إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, they
كَانُوا۟kānūwere
قَوْمَqawmaa people
سَوْءٍۢsawinevil
فَـٰسِقِينَfāsiqīnadefiantly disobedient

Translation

And (to) Lut We gave him judgment and knowledge and We saved him from the town which was doing wicked deeds Indeed, they were a people evil defiantly disobedient

Verse 75

وَأَدْخَلْنَـٰهُwa-adkhalnāhuAnd We admitted him
فِىfīinto
رَحْمَتِنَآ ۖraḥmatināOur Mercy
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, he
مِنَmina(was) of
ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَl-ṣāliḥīnathe righteous

Translation

And We admitted him into Our Mercy Indeed, he (was) of the righteous

Verse 76

وَنُوحًاwanūḥanAnd Nuh
إِذْidhwhen
نَادَىٰnādāhe called
مِنminbefore
قَبْلُqablubefore
فَٱسْتَجَبْنَاfa-is'tajabnāso We responded
لَهُۥlahuto him
فَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُfanajjaynāhuand We saved him
وَأَهْلَهُۥwa-ahlahuand his family
مِنَminafrom
ٱلْكَرْبِl-karbithe affliction
ٱلْعَظِيمِl-ʿaẓīmi[the] great

Translation

And Nuh when he called before before so We responded to him and We saved him and his family from the affliction [the] great

Verse 77

وَنَصَرْنَـٰهُwanaṣarnāhuAnd We helped him
مِنَminafrom
ٱلْقَوْمِl-qawmithe people
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
كَذَّبُوا۟kadhabūdenied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ ۚbiāyātināOur Signs
إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, they
كَانُوا۟kānūwere
قَوْمَqawmaa people
سَوْءٍۢsawinevil
فَأَغْرَقْنَـٰهُمْfa-aghraqnāhumso We drowned them
أَجْمَعِينَajmaʿīnaall

Translation

And We helped him from the people who denied Our Signs Indeed, they were a people evil so We drowned them all

Verse 78

وَدَاوُۥدَwadāwūdaAnd Dawud
وَسُلَيْمَـٰنَwasulaymānaand Sulaiman
إِذْidhwhen
يَحْكُمَانِyaḥkumānithey judged
فِىfīconcerning
ٱلْحَرْثِl-ḥarthithe field
إِذْidhwhen
نَفَشَتْnafashatpastured
فِيهِfīhiin it
غَنَمُghanamusheep
ٱلْقَوْمِl-qawmi(of) a people
وَكُنَّاwakunnāand We were
لِحُكْمِهِمْliḥuk'mihimto their judgment
شَـٰهِدِينَshāhidīnawitness

Translation

And Dawud and Sulaiman when they judged concerning the field when pastured in it sheep (of) a people and We were to their judgment witness

Verse 79

فَفَهَّمْنَـٰهَاfafahhamnāhāAnd We gave understanding of it
سُلَيْمَـٰنَ ۚsulaymāna(to) Sulaiman
وَكُلًّاwakullanand (to) each
ءَاتَيْنَاātaynāWe gave
حُكْمًۭاḥuk'manjudgment
وَعِلْمًۭا ۚwaʿil'manand knowledge
وَسَخَّرْنَاwasakharnāAnd We subjected
مَعَmaʿawith
دَاوُۥدَdāwūdaDawud
ٱلْجِبَالَl-jibālathe mountains
يُسَبِّحْنَyusabbiḥ'na(to) glorify Our praises
وَٱلطَّيْرَ ۚwal-ṭayraand the birds
وَكُنَّاwakunnāAnd We were
فَـٰعِلِينَfāʿilīnathe Doers

Translation

And We gave understanding of it (to) Sulaiman and (to) each We gave judgment and knowledge And We subjected with Dawud the mountains (to) glorify Our praises and the birds And We were the Doers

Verse 80

وَعَلَّمْنَـٰهُwaʿallamnāhuAnd We taught him
صَنْعَةَṣanʿata(the) making
لَبُوسٍۢlabūsin(of) coats of armor
لَّكُمْlakumfor you
لِتُحْصِنَكُمlituḥ'ṣinakumto protect you
مِّنۢminfrom
بَأْسِكُمْ ۖbasikumyour battle
فَهَلْfahalThen will
أَنتُمْantumyou
شَـٰكِرُونَshākirūna(be) grateful

Translation

And We taught him (the) making (of) coats of armor for you to protect you from your battle Then will you (be) grateful

Verse 81

وَلِسُلَيْمَـٰنَwalisulaymānaAnd to Sulaiman
ٱلرِّيحَl-rīḥathe wind
عَاصِفَةًۭʿāṣifatanforcefully
تَجْرِىtajrīblowing
بِأَمْرِهِۦٓbi-amrihiby his command
إِلَىilāto
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe land
ٱلَّتِىallatīwhich
بَـٰرَكْنَاbāraknāWe blessed
فِيهَا ۚfīhā[in it]
وَكُنَّاwakunnāAnd We are
بِكُلِّbikulliof every
شَىْءٍshayinthing
عَـٰلِمِينَʿālimīnaKnowers

Translation

And to Sulaiman the wind forcefully blowing by his command to the land which We blessed [in it] And We are of every thing Knowers

Verse 82

وَمِنَwaminaAnd of
ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِl-shayāṭīnithe devils
مَنman(were some) who
يَغُوصُونَyaghūṣūnawould dive
لَهُۥlahufor him
وَيَعْمَلُونَwayaʿmalūnaand would do
عَمَلًۭاʿamalanwork
دُونَdūnaother than
ذَٰلِكَ ۖdhālikathat
وَكُنَّاwakunnāAnd We were
لَهُمْlahumof them
حَـٰفِظِينَḥāfiẓīnaGuardians

Translation

And of the devils (were some) who would dive for him and would do work other than that And We were of them Guardians

Verse 83

۞ وَأَيُّوبَwa-ayyūbaAnd Ayub
إِذْidhwhen
نَادَىٰnādāhe called
رَبَّهُۥٓrabbahu(to) his Lord
أَنِّىannīIndeed, [I]
مَسَّنِىَmassaniyahas touched me
ٱلضُّرُّl-ḍuruthe adversity
وَأَنتَwa-antaand You
أَرْحَمُarḥamu(are) Most Merciful
ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَl-rāḥimīna(of) the Merciful

Translation

And Ayub when he called (to) his Lord Indeed, [I] has touched me the adversity and You (are) Most Merciful (of) the Merciful

Verse 84

فَٱسْتَجَبْنَاfa-is'tajabnāSo We responded
لَهُۥlahuto him
فَكَشَفْنَاfakashafnāand We removed
مَاmāwhat
بِهِۦbihi(was) on him
مِنminof
ضُرٍّۢ ۖḍurrin(the) adversity
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُwaātaynāhuAnd We gave him
أَهْلَهُۥahlahuhis family
وَمِثْلَهُمwamith'lahumand (the) like thereof
مَّعَهُمْmaʿahumwith them
رَحْمَةًۭraḥmatan(as) Mercy
مِّنْminfrom Ourselves
عِندِنَاʿindināfrom Ourselves
وَذِكْرَىٰwadhik'rāand a reminder
لِلْعَـٰبِدِينَlil'ʿābidīnafor the worshippers

Translation

So We responded to him and We removed what (was) on him of (the) adversity And We gave him his family and (the) like thereof with them (as) Mercy from Ourselves from Ourselves and a reminder for the worshippers

Verse 85

وَإِسْمَـٰعِيلَwa-is'māʿīlaAnd Ishmael
وَإِدْرِيسَwa-id'rīsaand Idris
وَذَاwadhāand Dhul-Kifl
ٱلْكِفْلِ ۖl-kif'liand Dhul-Kifl
كُلٌّۭkullunall
مِّنَmina(were) of
ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَl-ṣābirīnathe patient ones

Translation

And Ishmael and Idris and Dhul-Kifl and Dhul-Kifl all (were) of the patient ones

Verse 86

وَأَدْخَلْنَـٰهُمْwa-adkhalnāhumAnd We admitted them
فِىfīin
رَحْمَتِنَآ ۖraḥmatināOur Mercy
إِنَّهُمinnahumIndeed, they
مِّنَmina(were) of
ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَl-ṣāliḥīnathe righteous

Translation

And We admitted them in Our Mercy Indeed, they (were) of the righteous

Verse 87

وَذَاwadhāAnd Dhun-Nun
ٱلنُّونِl-nūniAnd Dhun-Nun
إِذidhwhen
ذَّهَبَdhahabahe went
مُغَـٰضِبًۭاmughāḍiban(while) angry
فَظَنَّfaẓannaand thought
أَنanthat
لَّنlannever
نَّقْدِرَnaqdiraWe would decree
عَلَيْهِʿalayhiupon him
فَنَادَىٰfanādāThen he called
فِىfīin
ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِl-ẓulumātithe darkness(es)
أَنanthat
لَّآlā(There is) no
إِلَـٰهَilāhagod
إِلَّآillāexcept
أَنتَantaYou
سُبْحَـٰنَكَsub'ḥānakaGlory be to You
إِنِّىinnīIndeed, [I]
كُنتُkuntuI am
مِنَminaof
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers

Translation

And Dhun-Nun And Dhun-Nun when he went (while) angry and thought that never We would decree upon him Then he called in the darkness(es) that (There is) no god except You Glory be to You Indeed, [I] I am of the wrongdoers

Verse 88

فَٱسْتَجَبْنَاfa-is'tajabnāSo We responded
لَهُۥlahuto him
وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُwanajjaynāhuand We saved him
مِنَminafrom
ٱلْغَمِّ ۚl-ghamithe distress
وَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhālikaAnd thus
نُـۨجِىnunjīWe save
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers

Translation

So We responded to him and We saved him from the distress And thus We save the believers

Verse 89

وَزَكَرِيَّآwazakariyyāAnd Zakariya
إِذْidhwhen
نَادَىٰnādāhe called
رَبَّهُۥrabbahu(to) his Lord
رَبِّrabbiMy Lord
لَاlā(Do) not
تَذَرْنِىtadharnīleave me
فَرْدًۭاfardanalone
وَأَنتَwa-antawhile You
خَيْرُkhayru(are) [the] Best
ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَl-wārithīna(of) the inheritors

Translation

And Zakariya when he called (to) his Lord My Lord (Do) not leave me alone while You (are) [the] Best (of) the inheritors

Verse 90

فَٱسْتَجَبْنَاfa-is'tajabnāSo We responded
لَهُۥlahuto him
وَوَهَبْنَاwawahabnāand We bestowed
لَهُۥlahuon him
يَحْيَىٰyaḥyāYahya
وَأَصْلَحْنَاwa-aṣlaḥnāand We cured
لَهُۥlahufor him
زَوْجَهُۥٓ ۚzawjahuhis wife
إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, they
كَانُوا۟kānūused (to)
يُسَـٰرِعُونَyusāriʿūnahasten
فِىfīin
ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِl-khayrātigood deeds
وَيَدْعُونَنَاwayadʿūnanāand they supplicate to Us
رَغَبًۭاraghaban(in) hope
وَرَهَبًۭا ۖwarahabanand fear
وَكَانُوا۟wakānūand they were
لَنَاlanāto Us
خَـٰشِعِينَkhāshiʿīnahumbly submissive

Translation

So We responded to him and We bestowed on him Yahya and We cured for him his wife Indeed, they used (to) hasten in good deeds and they supplicate to Us (in) hope and fear and they were to Us humbly submissive

Verse 91

وَٱلَّتِىٓwa-allatīAnd she who
أَحْصَنَتْaḥṣanatguarded
فَرْجَهَاfarjahāher chastity
فَنَفَخْنَاfanafakhnāso We breathed
فِيهَاfīhāinto her
مِنminof
رُّوحِنَاrūḥināOur Spirit
وَجَعَلْنَـٰهَاwajaʿalnāhāand We made her
وَٱبْنَهَآwa-ib'nahāand her son
ءَايَةًۭāyatana sign
لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَlil'ʿālamīnafor the worlds

Translation

And she who guarded her chastity so We breathed into her of Our Spirit and We made her and her son a sign for the worlds

Verse 92

إِنَّinnaIndeed
هَـٰذِهِۦٓhādhihithis
أُمَّتُكُمْummatukum(is) your religion
أُمَّةًۭummatanreligion
وَٰحِدَةًۭwāḥidatanone
وَأَنَا۠wa-anāand I Am
رَبُّكُمْrabbukumyour Lord
فَٱعْبُدُونِfa-uʿ'budūniso worship Me

Translation

Indeed this (is) your religion religion one and I Am your Lord so worship Me

Verse 93

وَتَقَطَّعُوٓا۟wataqaṭṭaʿūBut they cut off
أَمْرَهُمamrahumtheir affair
بَيْنَهُمْ ۖbaynahumamong themselves
كُلٌّkullunall
إِلَيْنَاilaynāto Us
رَٰجِعُونَrājiʿūna(will) return

Translation

But they cut off their affair among themselves all to Us (will) return

Verse 94

فَمَنfamanThen whoever
يَعْمَلْyaʿmaldoes
مِنَmina[of]
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥāti[the] righteous deeds
وَهُوَwahuwawhile he
مُؤْمِنٌۭmu'minun(is) a believer
فَلَاfalāthen not
كُفْرَانَkuf'rāna(will be) rejected
لِسَعْيِهِۦlisaʿyihi[of] his effort
وَإِنَّاwa-innāAnd indeed, We
لَهُۥlahuof it
كَـٰتِبُونَkātibūna(are) Recorders

Translation

Then whoever does [of] [the] righteous deeds while he (is) a believer then not (will be) rejected [of] his effort And indeed, We of it (are) Recorders

Verse 95

وَحَرَٰمٌwaḥarāmunAnd (there is) prohibition
عَلَىٰʿalāupon
قَرْيَةٍqaryatina city
أَهْلَكْنَـٰهَآahlaknāhāwhich We have destroyed
أَنَّهُمْannahumthat they
لَاlānot
يَرْجِعُونَyarjiʿūnawill return

Translation

And (there is) prohibition upon a city which We have destroyed that they not will return

Verse 96

حَتَّىٰٓḥattāUntil
إِذَاidhāwhen
فُتِحَتْfutiḥathas been opened
يَأْجُوجُyajūju(for) the Yajuj
وَمَأْجُوجُwamajūjuand Majuj
وَهُمwahumand they
مِّنminfrom
كُلِّkullievery
حَدَبٍۢḥadabinelevation
يَنسِلُونَyansilūnadescend

Translation

Until when has been opened (for) the Yajuj and Majuj and they from every elevation descend

Verse 97

وَٱقْتَرَبَwa-iq'tarabaAnd has approached
ٱلْوَعْدُl-waʿduthe promise
ٱلْحَقُّl-ḥaqu[the] true
فَإِذَاfa-idhāthen behold
هِىَhiya[it]
شَـٰخِصَةٌshākhiṣatun(are) staring
أَبْصَـٰرُabṣāru(the) eyes
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
يَـٰوَيْلَنَاyāwaylanāO woe to us
قَدْqadVerily
كُنَّاkunnāwe had been
فِىfīin
غَفْلَةٍۢghaflatinheedlessness
مِّنْminof
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
بَلْbalnay
كُنَّاkunnāwe were
ظَـٰلِمِينَẓālimīnawrongdoers

Translation

And has approached the promise [the] true then behold [it] (are) staring (the) eyes (of) those who disbelieved O woe to us Verily we had been in heedlessness of this nay we were wrongdoers

Verse 98

إِنَّكُمْinnakumIndeed, you
وَمَاwamāand what
تَعْبُدُونَtaʿbudūnayou worship
مِنminbesides Allah
دُونِdūnibesides Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahibesides Allah
حَصَبُḥaṣabu(are) firewood
جَهَنَّمَjahannama(of) Hell
أَنتُمْantumYou
لَهَاlahāto it
وَٰرِدُونَwāridūnawill come

Translation

Indeed, you and what you worship besides Allah besides Allah besides Allah (are) firewood (of) Hell You to it will come

Verse 99

لَوْlawIf
كَانَkānawere
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāithese
ءَالِهَةًۭālihatangods
مَّاmānot
وَرَدُوهَا ۖwaradūhāthey (would) have come to it
وَكُلٌّۭwakullunAnd all
فِيهَاfīhātherein
خَـٰلِدُونَkhālidūnawill abide forever

Translation

If were these gods not they (would) have come to it And all therein will abide forever

Verse 100

لَهُمْlahumFor them
فِيهَاfīhātherein
زَفِيرٌۭzafīrun(is) sighing
وَهُمْwahumand they
فِيهَاfīhātherein
لَاlānot
يَسْمَعُونَyasmaʿūnawill hear

Translation

For them therein (is) sighing and they therein not will hear

Verse 101

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose
سَبَقَتْsabaqathas gone forth
لَهُمlahumfor them
مِّنَّاminnāfrom Us
ٱلْحُسْنَىٰٓl-ḥus'nāthe good
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikathose
عَنْهَاʿanhāfrom it
مُبْعَدُونَmub'ʿadūna(will be) removed far

Translation

Indeed those has gone forth for them from Us the good those from it (will be) removed far

Verse 102

لَاlāNot
يَسْمَعُونَyasmaʿūnathey will hear
حَسِيسَهَا ۖḥasīsahā(the) slightest sound of it
وَهُمْwahumand they
فِىfīin
مَاmāwhat
ٱشْتَهَتْish'tahatdesire
أَنفُسُهُمْanfusuhumtheir souls
خَـٰلِدُونَkhālidūnawill abide forever

Translation

Not they will hear (the) slightest sound of it and they in what desire their souls will abide forever

Verse 103

لَاlāNot
يَحْزُنُهُمُyaḥzunuhumuwill grieve them
ٱلْفَزَعُl-fazaʿuthe terror
ٱلْأَكْبَرُl-akbaru[the] greatest
وَتَتَلَقَّىٰهُمُwatatalaqqāhumuand will meet them
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُl-malāikatuthe Angels
هَـٰذَاhādhāThis
يَوْمُكُمُyawmukumu(is) your Day
ٱلَّذِىalladhīwhich
كُنتُمْkuntumyou were
تُوعَدُونَtūʿadūnapromised

Translation

Not will grieve them the terror [the] greatest and will meet them the Angels This (is) your Day which you were promised

Verse 104

يَوْمَyawma(The) Day
نَطْوِىnaṭwīWe will fold
ٱلسَّمَآءَl-samāathe heaven
كَطَىِّkaṭayyilike (the) folding
ٱلسِّجِلِّl-sijili(of) a scroll
لِلْكُتُبِ ۚlil'kutubifor records
كَمَاkamāAs
بَدَأْنَآbadanāWe began
أَوَّلَawwala(the) first
خَلْقٍۢkhalqincreation
نُّعِيدُهُۥ ۚnuʿīduhuWe will repeat it
وَعْدًاwaʿdana promise
عَلَيْنَآ ۚʿalaynāupon Us
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, We
كُنَّاkunnāWe are
فَـٰعِلِينَfāʿilīna(the) Doers

Translation

(The) Day We will fold the heaven like (the) folding (of) a scroll for records As We began (the) first creation We will repeat it a promise upon Us Indeed, We We are (the) Doers

Verse 105

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd verily
كَتَبْنَاkatabnāWe have written
فِىfīin
ٱلزَّبُورِl-zabūrithe Scripture
مِنۢminafter
بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
ٱلذِّكْرِl-dhik'rithe mention
أَنَّannathat
ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earth
يَرِثُهَاyarithuhāwill inherit it
عِبَادِىَʿibādiyaMy slaves
ٱلصَّـٰلِحُونَl-ṣāliḥūnathe righteous

Translation

And verily We have written in the Scripture after after the mention that the earth will inherit it My slaves the righteous

Verse 106

إِنَّinnaIndeed
فِىfīin
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
لَبَلَـٰغًۭاlabalāghansurely is a Message
لِّقَوْمٍliqawminfor a people
عَـٰبِدِينَʿābidīnaworshippers

Translation

Indeed in this surely is a Message for a people worshippers

Verse 107

وَمَآwamāAnd not
أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَarsalnākaWe have sent you
إِلَّاillābut
رَحْمَةًۭraḥmatan(as) a mercy
لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَlil'ʿālamīnafor the worlds

Translation

And not We have sent you but (as) a mercy for the worlds

Verse 108

قُلْqulSay
إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
يُوحَىٰٓyūḥāit is revealed
إِلَىَّilayyato me
أَنَّمَآannamāthat
إِلَـٰهُكُمْilāhukumyour god
إِلَـٰهٌۭilāhun(is) God
وَٰحِدٌۭ ۖwāḥidunOne
فَهَلْfahalso will
أَنتُمantumyou
مُّسْلِمُونَmus'limūnasubmit (to Him)

Translation

Say Only it is revealed to me that your god (is) God One so will you submit (to Him)

Verse 109

فَإِنfa-inBut if
تَوَلَّوْا۟tawallawthey turn away
فَقُلْfaqulthen say
ءَاذَنتُكُمْādhantukumI (have) announced to you
عَلَىٰʿalāequally
سَوَآءٍۢ ۖsawāinequally
وَإِنْwa-inAnd not
أَدْرِىٓadrīI know
أَقَرِيبٌaqarībunwhether is near
أَمamor
بَعِيدٌۭbaʿīdunfar
مَّاmāwhat
تُوعَدُونَtūʿadūnayou are promised

Translation

But if they turn away then say I (have) announced to you equally equally And not I know whether is near or far what you are promised

Verse 110

إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, He
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknows
ٱلْجَهْرَl-jahrathe declared
مِنَmina[of]
ٱلْقَوْلِl-qawli[the] speech
وَيَعْلَمُwayaʿlamuand He knows
مَاmāwhat
تَكْتُمُونَtaktumūnayou conceal

Translation

Indeed, He knows the declared [of] [the] speech and He knows what you conceal

Verse 111

وَإِنْwa-inAnd not
أَدْرِىadrīI know
لَعَلَّهُۥlaʿallahuperhaps it may be
فِتْنَةٌۭfit'natuna trial
لَّكُمْlakumfor you
وَمَتَـٰعٌwamatāʿunand an enjoyment
إِلَىٰilāfor
حِينٍۢḥīnina time

Translation

And not I know perhaps it may be a trial for you and an enjoyment for a time

Verse 112

قَـٰلَqālaHe said
رَبِّrabbiMy Lord
ٱحْكُمuḥ'kumjudge
بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗbil-ḥaqiin truth
وَرَبُّنَاwarabbunāAnd our Lord
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُl-raḥmānu(is) the Most Gracious
ٱلْمُسْتَعَانُl-mus'taʿānuthe One Whose help is sought
عَلَىٰʿalāagainst
مَاmāwhat
تَصِفُونَtaṣifūnayou attribute

Translation

He said My Lord judge in truth And our Lord (is) the Most Gracious the One Whose help is sought against what you attribute
