Chapter 22Medinan78 Verses

Verse 1

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO mankind
ٱلنَّاسُl-nāsuO mankind
ٱتَّقُوا۟ittaqūFear
رَبَّكُمْ ۚrabbakumyour Lord
إِنَّinnaIndeed
زَلْزَلَةَzalzalata(the) convulsion
ٱلسَّاعَةِl-sāʿati(of) the Hour
شَىْءٌshayon(is) a thing
عَظِيمٌۭʿaẓīmungreat

Translation

O mankind O mankind Fear your Lord Indeed (the) convulsion (of) the Hour (is) a thing great

Verse 2

يَوْمَyawma(The) Day
تَرَوْنَهَاtarawnahāyou will see it
تَذْهَلُtadhhaluwill forget
كُلُّkulluevery
مُرْضِعَةٍmur'ḍiʿatinnursing mother
عَمَّآʿammāthat which
أَرْضَعَتْarḍaʿatshe was nursing
وَتَضَعُwataḍaʿuand will deliver
كُلُّkulluevery
ذَاتِdhātipregnant woman
حَمْلٍḥamlinpregnant woman
حَمْلَهَاḥamlahāher load
وَتَرَىwatarāand you will see
ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsa[the] mankind
سُكَـٰرَىٰsukārāintoxicated
وَمَاwamāwhile not
هُمhumthey
بِسُكَـٰرَىٰbisukārā(are) intoxicated
وَلَـٰكِنَّwalākinnabut
عَذَابَʿadhāba(the) punishment
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
شَدِيدٌۭshadīdun(will be) severe

Translation

(The) Day you will see it will forget every nursing mother that which she was nursing and will deliver every pregnant woman pregnant woman her load and you will see [the] mankind intoxicated while not they (are) intoxicated but (the) punishment (of) Allah (will be) severe

Verse 3

وَمِنَwaminaAnd among
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsithe mankind
مَنman(is he) who
يُجَـٰدِلُyujādiludisputes
فِىfīconcerning
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
بِغَيْرِbighayriwithout
عِلْمٍۢʿil'minknowledge
وَيَتَّبِعُwayattabiʿuand follows
كُلَّkullaevery
شَيْطَـٰنٍۢshayṭānindevil
مَّرِيدٍۢmarīdinrebellious

Translation

And among the mankind (is he) who disputes concerning Allah without knowledge and follows every devil rebellious

Verse 4

كُتِبَkutibaIt has been decreed
عَلَيْهِʿalayhifor him
أَنَّهُۥannahuthat he
مَنmanwho
تَوَلَّاهُtawallāhubefriends him
فَأَنَّهُۥfa-annahuthen indeed, he
يُضِلُّهُۥyuḍilluhuwill misguide him
وَيَهْدِيهِwayahdīhiand will guide him
إِلَىٰilāto
عَذَابِʿadhābi(the) punishment
ٱلسَّعِيرِl-saʿīri(of) the Blaze

Translation

It has been decreed for him that he who befriends him then indeed, he will misguide him and will guide him to (the) punishment (of) the Blaze

Verse 5

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO mankind
ٱلنَّاسُl-nāsuO mankind
إِنinIf
كُنتُمْkuntumyou are
فِىfīin
رَيْبٍۢraybindoubt
مِّنَminaabout
ٱلْبَعْثِl-baʿthithe Resurrection
فَإِنَّاfa-innāthen indeed, We
خَلَقْنَـٰكُمkhalaqnākumWe created you
مِّنminfrom
تُرَابٍۢturābindust
ثُمَّthummathen
مِنminfrom
نُّطْفَةٍۢnuṭ'fatina semen-drop
ثُمَّthummathen
مِنْminfrom
عَلَقَةٍۢʿalaqatina clinging substance
ثُمَّthummathen
مِنminfrom
مُّضْغَةٍۢmuḍ'ghatinan embryonic lump
مُّخَلَّقَةٍۢmukhallaqatinformed
وَغَيْرِwaghayriand unformed
مُخَلَّقَةٍۢmukhallaqatinand unformed
لِّنُبَيِّنَlinubayyinathat We may make clear
لَكُمْ ۚlakumto you
وَنُقِرُّwanuqirruAnd We cause to remain
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْحَامِl-arḥāmithe wombs
مَاmāwhat
نَشَآءُnashāuWe will
إِلَىٰٓilāfor
أَجَلٍۢajalina term
مُّسَمًّۭىmusammanappointed
ثُمَّthummathen
نُخْرِجُكُمْnukh'rijukumWe bring you out
طِفْلًۭاṭif'lan(as) a child
ثُمَّthumma[then]
لِتَبْلُغُوٓا۟litablughūthat you may reach
أَشُدَّكُمْ ۖashuddakum[your] maturity
وَمِنكُمwaminkumAnd among you
مَّنman(is he) who
يُتَوَفَّىٰyutawaffādies
وَمِنكُمwaminkumand among you
مَّنman(is he) who
يُرَدُّyuradduis returned
إِلَىٰٓilāto
أَرْذَلِardhalithe most abject
ٱلْعُمُرِl-ʿumuriage
لِكَيْلَاlikaylāso that not
يَعْلَمَyaʿlamahe knows
مِنۢminafter
بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
عِلْمٍۢʿil'minhaving known
شَيْـًۭٔا ۚshayananything
وَتَرَىwatarāAnd you see
ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earth
هَامِدَةًۭhāmidatanbarren
فَإِذَآfa-idhāthen when
أَنزَلْنَاanzalnāWe send down
عَلَيْهَاʿalayhāon it
ٱلْمَآءَl-māawater
ٱهْتَزَّتْih'tazzatit gets stirred
وَرَبَتْwarabatand it swells
وَأَنۢبَتَتْwa-anbatatand grows
مِنminof
كُلِّkullievery
زَوْجٍۭzawjinkind
بَهِيجٍۢbahījinbeautiful

Translation

O mankind O mankind If you are in doubt about the Resurrection then indeed, We We created you from dust then from a semen-drop then from a clinging substance then from an embryonic lump formed and unformed and unformed that We may make clear to you And We cause to remain in the wombs what We will for a term appointed then We bring you out (as) a child [then] that you may reach [your] maturity And among you (is he) who dies and among you (is he) who is returned to the most abject age so that not he knows after after having known anything And you see the earth barren then when We send down on it water it gets stirred and it swells and grows of every kind beautiful

Verse 6

ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
بِأَنَّbi-anna(is) because
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
هُوَhuwaHe
ٱلْحَقُّl-ḥaqu(is) the Truth
وَأَنَّهُۥwa-annahuAnd that He
يُحْىِyuḥ'yī[He] gives life
ٱلْمَوْتَىٰl-mawtā(to) the dead
وَأَنَّهُۥwa-annahuand that He
عَلَىٰʿalā(is) over
كُلِّkullievery
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
قَدِيرٌۭqadīrunAll-Powerful

Translation

That (is) because Allah He (is) the Truth And that He [He] gives life (to) the dead and that He (is) over every thing All-Powerful

Verse 7

وَأَنَّwa-annaAnd that
ٱلسَّاعَةَl-sāʿatathe Hour
ءَاتِيَةٌۭātiyatunwill come
لَّاlā(there is) no
رَيْبَraybadoubt
فِيهَاfīhāabout it
وَأَنَّwa-annaand that
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يَبْعَثُyabʿathuwill resurrect
مَنman(those) who
فِىfī(are) in
ٱلْقُبُورِl-qubūrithe graves

Translation

And that the Hour will come (there is) no doubt about it and that Allah will resurrect (those) who (are) in the graves

Verse 8

وَمِنَwaminaAnd among
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsimankind
مَنman(is he) who
يُجَـٰدِلُyujādiludisputes
فِىfīconcerning
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
بِغَيْرِbighayriwithout
عِلْمٍۢʿil'minany knowledge
وَلَاwalāand not
هُدًۭىhudanany guidance
وَلَاwalāand not
كِتَـٰبٍۢkitābina Book
مُّنِيرٍۢmunīrinenlightening

Translation

And among mankind (is he) who disputes concerning Allah without any knowledge and not any guidance and not a Book enlightening

Verse 9

ثَانِىَthāniyaTwisting
عِطْفِهِۦʿiṭ'fihihis neck
لِيُضِلَّliyuḍillato mislead
عَنʿanfrom
سَبِيلِsabīli(the) way
ٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahi(of) Allah
لَهُۥlahuFor him
فِىfīin
ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāthe world
خِزْىٌۭ ۖkhiz'yun(is) disgrace
وَنُذِيقُهُۥwanudhīquhuand We will make him taste
يَوْمَyawma(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmati(of) Resurrection
عَذَابَʿadhāba(the) punishment
ٱلْحَرِيقِl-ḥarīqi(of) the Burning Fire

Translation

Twisting his neck to mislead from (the) way (of) Allah For him in the world (is) disgrace and We will make him taste (on the) Day (of) Resurrection (the) punishment (of) the Burning Fire

Verse 10

ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
بِمَاbimā(is) for what
قَدَّمَتْqaddamathave sent forth
يَدَاكَyadākayour hands
وَأَنَّwa-annaand that
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لَيْسَlaysais not
بِظَلَّـٰمٍۢbiẓallāminunjust
لِّلْعَبِيدِlil'ʿabīdito His slaves

Translation

That (is) for what have sent forth your hands and that Allah is not unjust to His slaves

Verse 11

وَمِنَwaminaAnd among
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsithe mankind
مَنman(is he) who
يَعْبُدُyaʿbuduworships
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
عَلَىٰʿalāon
حَرْفٍۢ ۖḥarfinan edge
فَإِنْfa-inAnd if
أَصَابَهُۥaṣābahubefalls him
خَيْرٌkhayrungood
ٱطْمَأَنَّiṭ'ma-annahe is content
بِهِۦ ۖbihiwith it
وَإِنْwa-inand if
أَصَابَتْهُaṣābathubefalls him
فِتْنَةٌfit'natuna trial
ٱنقَلَبَinqalabahe turns
عَلَىٰʿalāon
وَجْهِهِۦwajhihihis face
خَسِرَkhasiraHe has lost
ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāthe world
وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۚwal-ākhirataand the Hereafter
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
هُوَhuwa[it]
ٱلْخُسْرَانُl-khus'rānu(is) the loss
ٱلْمُبِينُl-mubīnuclear

Translation

And among the mankind (is he) who worships Allah on an edge And if befalls him good he is content with it and if befalls him a trial he turns on his face He has lost the world and the Hereafter That [it] (is) the loss clear

Verse 12

يَدْعُوا۟yadʿūHe calls
مِنminbesides
دُونِdūnibesides
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
مَاmāwhat
لَاlānot
يَضُرُّهُۥyaḍurruhuharms him
وَمَاwamāand what
لَاlānot
يَنفَعُهُۥ ۚyanfaʿuhubenefits him
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
هُوَhuwa[it]
ٱلضَّلَـٰلُl-ḍalālu(is) the straying
ٱلْبَعِيدُl-baʿīdufar away

Translation

He calls besides besides Allah what not harms him and what not benefits him That [it] (is) the straying far away

Verse 13

يَدْعُوا۟yadʿūHe calls
لَمَنlaman(one) who
ضَرُّهُۥٓḍarruhuhis harm
أَقْرَبُaqrabu(is) closer
مِنminthan
نَّفْعِهِۦ ۚnafʿihihis benefit
لَبِئْسَlabi'saSurely, an evil
ٱلْمَوْلَىٰl-mawlāprotector
وَلَبِئْسَwalabi'saand surely an evil
ٱلْعَشِيرُl-ʿashīrufriend

Translation

He calls (one) who his harm (is) closer than his benefit Surely, an evil protector and surely an evil friend

Verse 14

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يُدْخِلُyud'khiluwill admit
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātithe righteous deeds
جَنَّـٰتٍۢjannātin(to) Gardens
تَجْرِىtajrīflow
مِنminfrom
تَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath it
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۚl-anhāruthe rivers
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يَفْعَلُyafʿaludoes
مَاmāwhat
يُرِيدُyurīduHe intends

Translation

Indeed Allah will admit those who believe and do the righteous deeds (to) Gardens flow from underneath it the rivers Indeed Allah does what He intends

Verse 15

مَنmanWhoever
كَانَkāna[is]
يَظُنُّyaẓunnuthinks
أَنanthat
لَّنlannot
يَنصُرَهُyanṣurahuAllah will help him
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah will help him
فِىfīin
ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāthe world
وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِwal-ākhiratiand the Hereafter
فَلْيَمْدُدْfalyamdudthen let him extend
بِسَبَبٍbisababina rope
إِلَىilāto
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe sky
ثُمَّthummathen
لْيَقْطَعْl'yaqṭaʿlet him cut off
فَلْيَنظُرْfalyanẓurthen let him see
هَلْhalwhether
يُذْهِبَنَّyudh'hibannawill remove
كَيْدُهُۥkayduhuhis plan
مَاmāwhat
يَغِيظُyaghīẓuenrages

Translation

Whoever [is] thinks that not Allah will help him Allah will help him in the world and the Hereafter then let him extend a rope to the sky then let him cut off then let him see whether will remove his plan what enrages

Verse 16

وَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhālikaAnd thus
أَنزَلْنَـٰهُanzalnāhuWe sent it down
ءَايَـٰتٍۭāyātin(as) clear Verses
بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢbayyinātin(as) clear Verses
وَأَنَّwa-annaand that
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يَهْدِىyahdīguides
مَنmanwhom
يُرِيدُyurīduHe intends

Translation

And thus We sent it down (as) clear Verses (as) clear Verses and that Allah guides whom He intends

Verse 17

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūhave believed
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those who
هَادُوا۟hādūwere Jews
وَٱلصَّـٰبِـِٔينَwal-ṣābiīnaand the Sabians
وَٱلنَّصَـٰرَىٰwal-naṣārāand the Christians
وَٱلْمَجُوسَwal-majūsaand the Magians
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those who
أَشْرَكُوٓا۟ashrakū(are) polytheists
إِنَّinnaindeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يَفْصِلُyafṣiluwill judge
بَيْنَهُمْbaynahumbetween them
يَوْمَyawma(on) the Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۚl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
عَلَىٰʿalāover
كُلِّkullievery
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
شَهِيدٌshahīdun(is) a Witness

Translation

Indeed those who have believed and those who were Jews and the Sabians and the Christians and the Magians and those who (are) polytheists indeed Allah will judge between them (on) the Day (of) the Resurrection Indeed Allah over every thing (is) a Witness

Verse 18

أَلَمْalamDo not
تَرَtarayou see
أَنَّannathat
ٱللَّهَl-laha(to) Allah
يَسْجُدُyasjuduprostrates
لَهُۥlahuto Him
مَنmanwhoever
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَمَنwamanand whoever
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
وَٱلشَّمْسُwal-shamsuand the sun
وَٱلْقَمَرُwal-qamaruand the moon
وَٱلنُّجُومُwal-nujūmuand the stars
وَٱلْجِبَالُwal-jibāluand the mountains
وَٱلشَّجَرُwal-shajaruand the trees
وَٱلدَّوَآبُّwal-dawābuand the moving creatures
وَكَثِيرٌۭwakathīrunand many
مِّنَminaof
ٱلنَّاسِ ۖl-nāsithe people
وَكَثِيرٌwakathīrunBut many
حَقَّḥaqqa(is) justly due
عَلَيْهِʿalayhion him
ٱلْعَذَابُ ۗl-ʿadhābuthe punishment
وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
يُهِنِyuhiniAllah humiliates
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah humiliates
فَمَاfamāthen not
لَهُۥlahufor him
مِنminany
مُّكْرِمٍ ۚmuk'riminbestower of honor
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يَفْعَلُyafʿaludoes
مَاmāwhat
يَشَآءُ ۩yashāuHe wills

Translation

Do not you see that (to) Allah prostrates to Him whoever (is) in the heavens and whoever (is) in the earth and the sun and the moon and the stars and the mountains and the trees and the moving creatures and many of the people But many (is) justly due on him the punishment And whoever Allah humiliates Allah humiliates then not for him any bestower of honor Indeed Allah does what He wills

Verse 19

۞ هَـٰذَانِhādhāniThese two
خَصْمَانِkhaṣmāniopponents
ٱخْتَصَمُوا۟ikh'taṣamūdispute
فِىfīconcerning
رَبِّهِمْ ۖrabbihimtheir Lord
فَٱلَّذِينَfa-alladhīnaBut those who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
قُطِّعَتْquṭṭiʿatwill be cut out
لَهُمْlahumfor them
ثِيَابٌۭthiyābungarments
مِّنminof
نَّارٍۢnārinfire
يُصَبُّyuṣabbuWill be poured
مِنminover
فَوْقِfawqiover
رُءُوسِهِمُruūsihimutheir heads
ٱلْحَمِيمُl-ḥamīmu[the] scalding water

Translation

These two opponents dispute concerning their Lord But those who disbelieved will be cut out for them garments of fire Will be poured over over their heads [the] scalding water

Verse 20

يُصْهَرُyuṣ'haruWill be melted
بِهِۦbihiwith it
مَاmāwhat
فِىfī(is) in
بُطُونِهِمْbuṭūnihimtheir bellies
وَٱلْجُلُودُwal-julūduand the skins

Translation

Will be melted with it what (is) in their bellies and the skins

Verse 21

وَلَهُمwalahumAnd for them
مَّقَـٰمِعُmaqāmiʿu(are) hooked rods
مِنْminof
حَدِيدٍۢḥadīdiniron

Translation

And for them (are) hooked rods of iron

Verse 22

كُلَّمَآkullamāEvery time
أَرَادُوٓا۟arādūthey want
أَنanto
يَخْرُجُوا۟yakhrujūcome out
مِنْهَاmin'hāfrom it
مِنْminfrom
غَمٍّghamminanguish
أُعِيدُوا۟uʿīdūthey will be returned
فِيهَاfīhātherein
وَذُوقُوا۟wadhūqūTaste
عَذَابَʿadhāba(the) punishment
ٱلْحَرِيقِl-ḥarīqi(of) the Burning Fire

Translation

Every time they want to come out from it from anguish they will be returned therein Taste (the) punishment (of) the Burning Fire

Verse 23

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يُدْخِلُyud'khiluwill admit
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātithe righteous deeds
جَنَّـٰتٍۢjannātin(to) Gardens
تَجْرِىtajrīflow
مِنminfrom
تَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath it
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُl-anhāruthe rivers
يُحَلَّوْنَyuḥallawnaThey will be adorned
فِيهَاfīhātherein
مِنْminwith
أَسَاوِرَasāwirabracelets
مِنminof
ذَهَبٍۢdhahabingold
وَلُؤْلُؤًۭا ۖwalu'lu-anand pearl
وَلِبَاسُهُمْwalibāsuhumand their garments
فِيهَاfīhātherein
حَرِيرٌۭḥarīrun(will be of) silk

Translation

Indeed Allah will admit those who believe and do the righteous deeds (to) Gardens flow from underneath it the rivers They will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and pearl and their garments therein (will be of) silk

Verse 24

وَهُدُوٓا۟wahudūAnd they were guided
إِلَىilāto
ٱلطَّيِّبِl-ṭayibithe good
مِنَminaof
ٱلْقَوْلِl-qawlithe speech
وَهُدُوٓا۟wahudūand they were guided
إِلَىٰilāto
صِرَٰطِṣirāṭi(the) path
ٱلْحَمِيدِl-ḥamīdi(of) the Praiseworthy

Translation

And they were guided to the good of the speech and they were guided to (the) path (of) the Praiseworthy

Verse 25

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
وَيَصُدُّونَwayaṣuddūnaand hinder
عَنʿanfrom
سَبِيلِsabīli(the) way
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
وَٱلْمَسْجِدِwal-masjidiand Al-Masjid Al-Haraam
ٱلْحَرَامِl-ḥarāmiand Al-Masjid Al-Haraam
ٱلَّذِىalladhīwhich
جَعَلْنَـٰهُjaʿalnāhuWe made it
لِلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor the mankind
سَوَآءًsawāanequal
ٱلْعَـٰكِفُl-ʿākifu(are) the resident
فِيهِfīhitherein
وَٱلْبَادِ ۚwal-bādiand the visitor
وَمَنwamanand whoever
يُرِدْyuridintends
فِيهِfīhitherein
بِإِلْحَادٍۭbi-il'ḥādinof deviation
بِظُلْمٍۢbiẓul'min(or) wrongdoing
نُّذِقْهُnudhiq'huWe will make him taste
مِنْminof
عَذَابٍʿadhābina punishment
أَلِيمٍۢalīminpainful

Translation

Indeed those who disbelieved and hinder from (the) way (of) Allah and Al-Masjid Al-Haraam and Al-Masjid Al-Haraam which We made it for the mankind equal (are) the resident therein and the visitor and whoever intends therein of deviation (or) wrongdoing We will make him taste of a punishment painful

Verse 26

وَإِذْwa-idhAnd when
بَوَّأْنَاbawwanāWe assigned
لِإِبْرَٰهِيمَli-ib'rāhīmato Ibrahim
مَكَانَmakāna(the) site
ٱلْبَيْتِl-bayti(of) the House
أَنanThat
لَّاlā(do) not
تُشْرِكْtush'rikassociate
بِىbīwith Me
شَيْـًۭٔاshayananything
وَطَهِّرْwaṭahhirand purify
بَيْتِىَbaytiyaMy House
لِلطَّآئِفِينَlilṭṭāifīnafor those who circumambulate
وَٱلْقَآئِمِينَwal-qāimīnaand those who stand
وَٱلرُّكَّعِwal-rukaʿiand those who bow
ٱلسُّجُودِl-sujūdi(and) those who prostrate

Translation

And when We assigned to Ibrahim (the) site (of) the House That (do) not associate with Me anything and purify My House for those who circumambulate and those who stand and those who bow (and) those who prostrate

Verse 27

وَأَذِّنwa-adhinAnd proclaim
فِىfīto
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi[the] mankind
بِٱلْحَجِّbil-ḥaji[of] the Pilgrimage
يَأْتُوكَyatūkathey will come to you
رِجَالًۭاrijālan(on) foot
وَعَلَىٰwaʿalāand on
كُلِّkullievery
ضَامِرٍۢḍāmirinlean camel
يَأْتِينَyatīnathey will come
مِنminfrom
كُلِّkullievery
فَجٍّfajjinmountain highway
عَمِيقٍۢʿamīqindistant

Translation

And proclaim to [the] mankind [of] the Pilgrimage they will come to you (on) foot and on every lean camel they will come from every mountain highway distant

Verse 28

لِّيَشْهَدُوا۟liyashhadūThat they may witness
مَنَـٰفِعَmanāfiʿabenefits
لَهُمْlahumfor them
وَيَذْكُرُوا۟wayadhkurūand mention
ٱسْمَis'ma(the) name
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
فِىٓfīon
أَيَّامٍۢayyāmindays
مَّعْلُومَـٰتٍmaʿlūmātinknown
عَلَىٰʿalāover
مَاmāwhat
رَزَقَهُمrazaqahumHe has provided them
مِّنۢminof
بَهِيمَةِbahīmati(the) beast
ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ ۖl-anʿāmi(of) cattle
فَكُلُوا۟fakulūSo eat
مِنْهَاmin'hāof them
وَأَطْعِمُوا۟wa-aṭʿimūand feed
ٱلْبَآئِسَl-bāisathe miserable
ٱلْفَقِيرَl-faqīrathe poor

Translation

That they may witness benefits for them and mention (the) name (of) Allah on days known over what He has provided them of (the) beast (of) cattle So eat of them and feed the miserable the poor

Verse 29

ثُمَّthummaThen
لْيَقْضُوا۟l'yaqḍūlet them end
تَفَثَهُمْtafathahumtheir prescribed duties
وَلْيُوفُوا۟walyūfūand fulfil
نُذُورَهُمْnudhūrahumtheir vows
وَلْيَطَّوَّفُوا۟walyaṭṭawwafūand circumambulate
بِٱلْبَيْتِbil-baytithe House
ٱلْعَتِيقِl-ʿatīqi[the] Ancient

Translation

Then let them end their prescribed duties and fulfil their vows and circumambulate the House [the] Ancient

Verse 30

ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
وَمَنwamanand whoever
يُعَظِّمْyuʿaẓẓimhonors
حُرُمَـٰتِḥurumāti(the) sacred rites
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
فَهُوَfahuwathen it
خَيْرٌۭkhayrun(is) best
لَّهُۥlahufor him
عِندَʿindanear
رَبِّهِۦ ۗrabbihihis Lord
وَأُحِلَّتْwa-uḥillatAnd are made lawful
لَكُمُlakumuto you
ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمُl-anʿāmuthe cattle
إِلَّاillāexcept
مَاmāwhat
يُتْلَىٰyut'lāis recited
عَلَيْكُمْ ۖʿalaykumto you
فَٱجْتَنِبُوا۟fa-ij'tanibūSo avoid
ٱلرِّجْسَl-rij'sathe abomination
مِنَminaof
ٱلْأَوْثَـٰنِl-awthānithe idols
وَٱجْتَنِبُوا۟wa-ij'tanibūand avoid
قَوْلَqawla(the) word
ٱلزُّورِl-zūrifalse

Translation

That and whoever honors (the) sacred rites (of) Allah then it (is) best for him near his Lord And are made lawful to you the cattle except what is recited to you So avoid the abomination of the idols and avoid (the) word false

Verse 31

حُنَفَآءَḥunafāaBeing upright
لِلَّهِlillahito Allah
غَيْرَghayranot
مُشْرِكِينَmush'rikīnaassociating partners
بِهِۦ ۚbihiwith Him
وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
يُشْرِكْyush'rikassociates partners
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiwith Allah
فَكَأَنَّمَاfaka-annamāthen (it is) as though
خَرَّkharrahe had fallen
مِنَminafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe sky
فَتَخْطَفُهُfatakhṭafuhuand (had) snatched him
ٱلطَّيْرُl-ṭayruthe birds
أَوْawor
تَهْوِىtahwīhad blown
بِهِbihihim
ٱلرِّيحُl-rīḥuthe wind
فِىfīto
مَكَانٍۢmakānina place
سَحِيقٍۢsaḥīqinfar off

Translation

Being upright to Allah not associating partners with Him And whoever associates partners with Allah then (it is) as though he had fallen from the sky and (had) snatched him the birds or had blown him the wind to a place far off

Verse 32

ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
وَمَنwamanand whoever
يُعَظِّمْyuʿaẓẓimhonors
شَعَـٰٓئِرَshaʿāira(the) Symbols
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
فَإِنَّهَاfa-innahāthen indeed, it
مِنmin(is) from
تَقْوَىtaqwā(the) piety
ٱلْقُلُوبِl-qulūbi(of) the hearts

Translation

That and whoever honors (the) Symbols (of) Allah then indeed, it (is) from (the) piety (of) the hearts

Verse 33

لَكُمْlakumFor you
فِيهَاfīhātherein
مَنَـٰفِعُmanāfiʿu(are) benefits
إِلَىٰٓilāfor
أَجَلٍۢajalina term
مُّسَمًّۭىmusammanappointed
ثُمَّthummathen
مَحِلُّهَآmaḥilluhātheir place of sacrifice
إِلَىilā(is) at
ٱلْبَيْتِl-baytithe House
ٱلْعَتِيقِl-ʿatīqithe Ancient

Translation

For you therein (are) benefits for a term appointed then their place of sacrifice (is) at the House the Ancient

Verse 34

وَلِكُلِّwalikulliAnd for every
أُمَّةٍۢummatinnation
جَعَلْنَاjaʿalnāWe have appointed
مَنسَكًۭاmansakana rite
لِّيَذْكُرُوا۟liyadhkurūthat they may mention
ٱسْمَis'ma(the) name
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
عَلَىٰʿalāover
مَاmāwhat
رَزَقَهُمrazaqahumHe (has) provided them
مِّنۢminof
بَهِيمَةِbahīmati(the) beast
ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ ۗl-anʿāmi(of) cattle
فَإِلَـٰهُكُمْfa-ilāhukumAnd your God
إِلَـٰهٌۭilāhun(is) God
وَٰحِدٌۭwāḥidunOne
فَلَهُۥٓfalahuso to Him
أَسْلِمُوا۟ ۗaslimūsubmit
وَبَشِّرِwabashiriAnd give glad tidings
ٱلْمُخْبِتِينَl-mukh'bitīna(to) the humble ones

Translation

And for every nation We have appointed a rite that they may mention (the) name (of) Allah over what He (has) provided them of (the) beast (of) cattle And your God (is) God One so to Him submit And give glad tidings (to) the humble ones

Verse 35

ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose
إِذَاidhāwhen
ذُكِرَdhukirais mentioned
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
وَجِلَتْwajilatfear
قُلُوبُهُمْqulūbuhumtheir hearts
وَٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَwal-ṣābirīnaand those who are patient
عَلَىٰʿalāover
مَآmāwhatever
أَصَابَهُمْaṣābahumhas afflicted them
وَٱلْمُقِيمِىwal-muqīmīand those who establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةِl-ṣalatithe prayer
وَمِمَّاwamimmāand out of what
رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْrazaqnāhumWe have provided them
يُنفِقُونَyunfiqūnathey spend

Translation

Those when is mentioned Allah fear their hearts and those who are patient over whatever has afflicted them and those who establish the prayer and out of what We have provided them they spend

Verse 36

وَٱلْبُدْنَwal-bud'naAnd the camels and cattle
جَعَلْنَـٰهَاjaʿalnāhāWe have made them
لَكُمlakumfor you
مِّنminamong
شَعَـٰٓئِرِshaʿāiri(the) Symbols
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
لَكُمْlakumfor you
فِيهَاfīhātherein
خَيْرٌۭ ۖkhayrun(is) good
فَٱذْكُرُوا۟fa-udh'kurūSo mention
ٱسْمَis'ma(the) name
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
عَلَيْهَاʿalayhāover them
صَوَآفَّ ۖṣawāffa(when) lined up
فَإِذَاfa-idhāand when
وَجَبَتْwajabatare down
جُنُوبُهَاjunūbuhātheir sides
فَكُلُوا۟fakulūthen eat
مِنْهَاmin'hāfrom them
وَأَطْعِمُوا۟wa-aṭʿimūand feed
ٱلْقَانِعَl-qāniʿathe needy who do not ask
وَٱلْمُعْتَرَّ ۚwal-muʿ'taraand the needy who ask
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
سَخَّرْنَـٰهَاsakharnāhāWe have subjected them
لَكُمْlakumto you
لَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you may
تَشْكُرُونَtashkurūnabe grateful

Translation

And the camels and cattle We have made them for you among (the) Symbols (of) Allah for you therein (is) good So mention (the) name (of) Allah over them (when) lined up and when are down their sides then eat from them and feed the needy who do not ask and the needy who ask Thus We have subjected them to you so that you may be grateful

Verse 37

لَنlanWill not
يَنَالَyanālareach
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لُحُومُهَاluḥūmuhātheir meat
وَلَاwalāand not
دِمَآؤُهَاdimāuhātheir blood
وَلَـٰكِنwalākinbut
يَنَالُهُyanāluhureaches Him
ٱلتَّقْوَىٰl-taqwāthe piety
مِنكُمْ ۚminkumfrom you
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
سَخَّرَهَاsakharahāHe subjected them
لَكُمْlakumto you
لِتُكَبِّرُوا۟litukabbirūso that you may magnify
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
عَلَىٰʿalāfor
مَاmāwhat
هَدَىٰكُمْ ۗhadākumHe has guided you
وَبَشِّرِwabashiriAnd give glad tidings
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīna(to) the good-doers

Translation

Will not reach Allah their meat and not their blood but reaches Him the piety from you Thus He subjected them to you so that you may magnify Allah for what He has guided you And give glad tidings (to) the good-doers

Verse 38

۞ إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يُدَٰفِعُyudāfiʿudefends
عَنِʿanidefends
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوٓا۟ ۗāmanūbelieve
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لَاlā(does) not
يُحِبُّyuḥibbulike
كُلَّkullaevery
خَوَّانٍۢkhawwānintreacherous
كَفُورٍkafūrinungrateful

Translation

Indeed Allah defends defends those who believe Indeed Allah (does) not like every treacherous ungrateful

Verse 39

أُذِنَudhinaPermission is given
لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those who
يُقَـٰتَلُونَyuqātalūnaare being fought
بِأَنَّهُمْbi-annahumbecause they
ظُلِمُوا۟ ۚẓulimūwere wronged
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
عَلَىٰʿalāfor
نَصْرِهِمْnaṣrihimtheir victory
لَقَدِيرٌlaqadīrun(is) surely Able

Translation

Permission is given to those who are being fought because they were wronged And indeed Allah for their victory (is) surely Able

Verse 40

ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose who
أُخْرِجُوا۟ukh'rijūhave been evicted
مِنminfrom
دِيَـٰرِهِمdiyārihimtheir homes
بِغَيْرِbighayriwithout
حَقٍّḥaqqinright
إِلَّآillāexcept
أَنanthat
يَقُولُوا۟yaqūlūthey said
رَبُّنَاrabbunāOur Lord
ٱللَّهُ ۗl-lahu(is) Allah
وَلَوْلَاwalawlāAnd if not
دَفْعُdafʿuAllah checks
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah checks
ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsathe people
بَعْضَهُمbaʿḍahumsome of them
بِبَعْضٍۢbibaʿḍinby others
لَّهُدِّمَتْlahuddimatsurely (would) have been demolished
صَوَٰمِعُṣawāmiʿumonasteries
وَبِيَعٌۭwabiyaʿunand churches
وَصَلَوَٰتٌۭwaṣalawātunand synagogues
وَمَسَـٰجِدُwamasājiduand masajid
يُذْكَرُyudh'karuis mentioned
فِيهَاfīhāin it
ٱسْمُus'mu(the) name of Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(the) name of Allah
كَثِيرًۭا ۗkathīranmuch
وَلَيَنصُرَنَّwalayanṣurannaAnd surely Allah will help
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAnd surely Allah will help
مَنman(those) who
يَنصُرُهُۥٓ ۗyanṣuruhuhelp Him
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لَقَوِىٌّlaqawiyyun(is) surely All-Strong
عَزِيزٌʿazīzunAll-Mighty

Translation

Those who have been evicted from their homes without right except that they said Our Lord (is) Allah And if not Allah checks Allah checks the people some of them by others surely (would) have been demolished monasteries and churches and synagogues and masajid is mentioned in it (the) name of Allah (the) name of Allah much And surely Allah will help And surely Allah will help (those) who help Him Indeed Allah (is) surely All-Strong All-Mighty

Verse 41

ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose who
إِنinif
مَّكَّنَّـٰهُمْmakkannāhumWe establish them
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe land
أَقَامُوا۟aqāmūthey establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَl-ṣalatathe prayer
وَءَاتَوُا۟waātawūand they give
ٱلزَّكَوٰةَl-zakatazakah
وَأَمَرُوا۟wa-amarūand they enjoin
بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِbil-maʿrūfithe right
وَنَهَوْا۟wanahawand forbid
عَنِʿanifrom
ٱلْمُنكَرِ ۗl-munkarithe wrong
وَلِلَّهِwalillahiAnd for Allah
عَـٰقِبَةُʿāqibatu(is the) end
ٱلْأُمُورِl-umūri(of) the matters

Translation

Those who if We establish them in the land they establish the prayer and they give zakah and they enjoin the right and forbid from the wrong And for Allah (is the) end (of) the matters

Verse 42

وَإِنwa-inAnd if
يُكَذِّبُوكَyukadhibūkathey deny you
فَقَدْfaqadso verily
كَذَّبَتْkadhabatdenied
قَبْلَهُمْqablahumbefore them
قَوْمُqawmu(the) people
نُوحٍۢnūḥin(of) Nuh
وَعَادٌۭwaʿādunand Aad
وَثَمُودُwathamūduand Thamud

Translation

And if they deny you so verily denied before them (the) people (of) Nuh and Aad and Thamud

Verse 43

وَقَوْمُwaqawmuAnd (the) people
إِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīma(of) Ibrahim
وَقَوْمُwaqawmuand (the) people
لُوطٍۢlūṭin(of) Lut

Translation

And (the) people (of) Ibrahim and (the) people (of) Lut

Verse 44

وَأَصْحَـٰبُwa-aṣḥābuAnd the inhabitants
مَدْيَنَ ۖmadyana(of) Madyan
وَكُذِّبَwakudhibaAnd Musa was denied
مُوسَىٰmūsāAnd Musa was denied
فَأَمْلَيْتُfa-amlaytuso I granted respite
لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَlil'kāfirīnato the disbelievers
ثُمَّthummathen
أَخَذْتُهُمْ ۖakhadhtuhumI seized them
فَكَيْفَfakayfaand how
كَانَkānawas
نَكِيرِnakīriMy punishment

Translation

And the inhabitants (of) Madyan And Musa was denied And Musa was denied so I granted respite to the disbelievers then I seized them and how was My punishment

Verse 45

فَكَأَيِّنfaka-ayyinAnd how many
مِّنminof
قَرْيَةٍqaryatina township
أَهْلَكْنَـٰهَاahlaknāhāWe have destroyed it
وَهِىَwahiyawhile it
ظَالِمَةٌۭẓālimatunwas doing wrong
فَهِىَfahiyaso it
خَاوِيَةٌkhāwiyatunfell
عَلَىٰʿalāon
عُرُوشِهَاʿurūshihāits roofs
وَبِئْرٍۢwabi'rinand well
مُّعَطَّلَةٍۢmuʿaṭṭalatinabandoned
وَقَصْرٍۢwaqaṣrinand castle
مَّشِيدٍmashīdinlofty

Translation

And how many of a township We have destroyed it while it was doing wrong so it fell on its roofs and well abandoned and castle lofty

Verse 46

أَفَلَمْafalamSo have not
يَسِيرُوا۟yasīrūthey traveled
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe land
فَتَكُونَfatakūnaand is
لَهُمْlahumfor them
قُلُوبٌۭqulūbunhearts
يَعْقِلُونَyaʿqilūna(to) reason
بِهَآbihāwith it
أَوْawor
ءَاذَانٌۭādhānunears
يَسْمَعُونَyasmaʿūna(to) hear
بِهَا ۖbihāwith it
فَإِنَّهَاfa-innahāFor indeed, [it]
لَاlānot
تَعْمَىtaʿmā(are) blinded
ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُl-abṣāruthe eyes
وَلَـٰكِنwalākinbut
تَعْمَىtaʿmā(are) blinded
ٱلْقُلُوبُl-qulūbuthe hearts
ٱلَّتِىallatīwhich
فِىfī(are) in
ٱلصُّدُورِl-ṣudūrithe breasts

Translation

So have not they traveled in the land and is for them hearts (to) reason with it or ears (to) hear with it For indeed, [it] not (are) blinded the eyes but (are) blinded the hearts which (are) in the breasts

Verse 47

وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَwayastaʿjilūnakaAnd they ask you to hasten
بِٱلْعَذَابِbil-ʿadhābithe punishment
وَلَنwalanBut never will
يُخْلِفَyukh'lifafail/violate
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
وَعْدَهُۥ ۚwaʿdahu(in) His Promise
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
يَوْمًاyawmana day
عِندَʿindawith
رَبِّكَrabbikayour Lord
كَأَلْفِka-alfi(is) like a thousand
سَنَةٍۢsanatinyear(s)
مِّمَّاmimmāof what
تَعُدُّونَtaʿuddūnayou count

Translation

And they ask you to hasten the punishment But never will fail/violate Allah (in) His Promise And indeed a day with your Lord (is) like a thousand year(s) of what you count

Verse 48

وَكَأَيِّنwaka-ayyinAnd how many
مِّنminof
قَرْيَةٍqaryatina township
أَمْلَيْتُamlaytuI gave respite
لَهَاlahāto it
وَهِىَwahiyawhile it
ظَالِمَةٌۭẓālimatun(was) doing wrong
ثُمَّthummaThen
أَخَذْتُهَاakhadhtuhāI seized it
وَإِلَىَّwa-ilayyaand to Me
ٱلْمَصِيرُl-maṣīru(is) the destination

Translation

And how many of a township I gave respite to it while it (was) doing wrong Then I seized it and to Me (is) the destination

Verse 49

قُلْqulSay
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO mankind
ٱلنَّاسُl-nāsuO mankind
إِنَّمَآinnamāOnly
أَنَا۠anāI am
لَكُمْlakumto you
نَذِيرٌۭnadhīruna warner
مُّبِينٌۭmubīnunclear

Translation

Say O mankind O mankind Only I am to you a warner clear

Verse 50

فَٱلَّذِينَfa-alladhīnaSo those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
لَهُمlahumfor them
مَّغْفِرَةٌۭmaghfiratun(is) forgiveness
وَرِزْقٌۭwariz'qunand a provision
كَرِيمٌۭkarīmunnoble

Translation

So those who believe and do righteous deeds for them (is) forgiveness and a provision noble

Verse 51

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
سَعَوْا۟saʿawstrove
فِىٓfīagainst
ءَايَـٰتِنَاāyātināOur Verses
مُعَـٰجِزِينَmuʿājizīna(to) cause failure
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikathose
أَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu(are the) companions
ٱلْجَحِيمِl-jaḥīmi(of) the Hellfire

Translation

And those who strove against Our Verses (to) cause failure those (are the) companions (of) the Hellfire

Verse 52

وَمَآwamāAnd not
أَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sent
مِنminbefore you
قَبْلِكَqablikabefore you
مِنminany
رَّسُولٍۢrasūlinMessenger
وَلَاwalāand not
نَبِىٍّnabiyyina Prophet
إِلَّآillābut
إِذَاidhāwhen
تَمَنَّىٰٓtamannāhe recited
أَلْقَىalqāthrew
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُl-shayṭānuthe Shaitaan
فِىٓfīin
أُمْنِيَّتِهِۦum'niyyatihihis recitation
فَيَنسَخُfayansakhuBut Allah abolishes
ٱللَّهُl-lahuBut Allah abolishes
مَاmāwhat
يُلْقِىyul'qīthrows
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُl-shayṭānuthe Shaitaan
ثُمَّthummathen
يُحْكِمُyuḥ'kimuAllah will establish
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah will establish
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ ۗāyātihiHis Verses
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
عَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-Knower
حَكِيمٌۭḥakīmunAll-Wise

Translation

And not We sent before you before you any Messenger and not a Prophet but when he recited threw the Shaitaan in his recitation But Allah abolishes But Allah abolishes what throws the Shaitaan then Allah will establish Allah will establish His Verses And Allah (is) All-Knower All-Wise

Verse 53

لِّيَجْعَلَliyajʿalaThat He may make
مَاmāwhat
يُلْقِىyul'qīthe Shaitaan throws
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُl-shayṭānuthe Shaitaan throws
فِتْنَةًۭfit'natana trial
لِّلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those
فِىfīin
قُلُوبِهِمqulūbihimtheir hearts
مَّرَضٌۭmaraḍun(is) a disease
وَٱلْقَاسِيَةِwal-qāsiyatiand (are) hardened
قُلُوبُهُمْ ۗqulūbuhumtheir hearts
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
لَفِىlafī(are) surely, in
شِقَاقٍۭshiqāqinschism
بَعِيدٍۢbaʿīdinfar

Translation

That He may make what the Shaitaan throws the Shaitaan throws a trial for those in their hearts (is) a disease and (are) hardened their hearts And indeed the wrongdoers (are) surely, in schism far

Verse 54

وَلِيَعْلَمَwaliyaʿlamaAnd that may know
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
أُوتُوا۟ūtūhave been given
ٱلْعِلْمَl-ʿil'mathe knowledge
أَنَّهُannahuthat it
ٱلْحَقُّl-ḥaqu(is) the truth
مِنminfrom
رَّبِّكَrabbikayour Lord
فَيُؤْمِنُوا۟fayu'minūand they believe
بِهِۦbihiin it
فَتُخْبِتَfatukh'bitaand may humbly submit
لَهُۥlahuto it
قُلُوبُهُمْ ۗqulūbuhumtheir hearts
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لَهَادِlahādi(is) surely (the) Guide
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those who
ءَامَنُوٓا۟āmanūbelieve
إِلَىٰilāto
صِرَٰطٍۢṣirāṭina Path
مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢmus'taqīminStraight

Translation

And that may know those who have been given the knowledge that it (is) the truth from your Lord and they believe in it and may humbly submit to it their hearts And indeed Allah (is) surely (the) Guide (of) those who believe to a Path Straight

Verse 55

وَلَاwalāAnd not
يَزَالُyazāluwill cease
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
فِىfī(to be) in
مِرْيَةٍۢmir'yatindoubt
مِّنْهُmin'huof it
حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
تَأْتِيَهُمُtatiyahumucomes to them
ٱلسَّاعَةُl-sāʿatuthe Hour
بَغْتَةًbaghtatansuddenly
أَوْawor
يَأْتِيَهُمْyatiyahumcomes to them
عَذَابُʿadhābu(the) punishment
يَوْمٍyawmin(of) a Day
عَقِيمٍʿaqīminbarren

Translation

And not will cease those who disbelieve (to be) in doubt of it until comes to them the Hour suddenly or comes to them (the) punishment (of) a Day barren

Verse 56

ٱلْمُلْكُal-mul'kuThe Sovereignty
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin(on) that Day
لِّلَّهِlillahi(will be) for Allah
يَحْكُمُyaḥkumuHe will judge
بَيْنَهُمْ ۚbaynahumbetween them
فَٱلَّذِينَfa-alladhīnaSo those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand did
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
فِىfī(will be) in
جَنَّـٰتِjannātiGardens
ٱلنَّعِيمِl-naʿīmi(of) Delight

Translation

The Sovereignty (on) that Day (will be) for Allah He will judge between them So those who believe and did righteous deeds (will be) in Gardens (of) Delight

Verse 57

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
وَكَذَّبُوا۟wakadhabūand denied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاbiāyātināOur Verses
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikathen those
لَهُمْlahumfor them
عَذَابٌۭʿadhābun(will be) a punishment
مُّهِينٌۭmuhīnunhumiliating

Translation

And those who disbelieved and denied Our Verses then those for them (will be) a punishment humiliating

Verse 58

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
هَاجَرُوا۟hājarūemigrated
فِىfīin
سَبِيلِsabīli(the) way
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
ثُمَّthummathen
قُتِلُوٓا۟qutilūwere killed
أَوْawor
مَاتُوا۟mātūdied
لَيَرْزُقَنَّهُمُlayarzuqannahumusurely, Allah will provide them
ٱللَّهُl-lahusurely, Allah will provide them
رِزْقًاriz'qana provision
حَسَنًۭا ۚḥasanangood
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لَهُوَlahuwasurely, He
خَيْرُkhayru(is the) Best
ٱلرَّٰزِقِينَl-rāziqīna(of) the Providers

Translation

And those who emigrated in (the) way (of) Allah then were killed or died surely, Allah will provide them surely, Allah will provide them a provision good And indeed Allah surely, He (is the) Best (of) the Providers

Verse 59

لَيُدْخِلَنَّهُمlayud'khilannahumSurely, He will admit them
مُّدْخَلًۭاmud'khalan(to) an entrance
يَرْضَوْنَهُۥ ۗyarḍawnahuthey will be pleased (with) it
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لَعَلِيمٌlaʿalīmunsurely, (is) All-Knowing
حَلِيمٌۭḥalīmunMost Forbearing

Translation

Surely, He will admit them (to) an entrance they will be pleased (with) it And indeed Allah surely, (is) All-Knowing Most Forbearing

Verse 60

۞ ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
وَمَنْwamanand whoever
عَاقَبَʿāqabahas retaliated
بِمِثْلِbimith'liwith the like
مَاmā(of) that
عُوقِبَʿūqibahe was made to suffer
بِهِۦbihiby it
ثُمَّthummathen
بُغِىَbughiyahe was oppressed
عَلَيْهِʿalayhi[on him]
لَيَنصُرَنَّهُlayanṣurannahuAllah will surely help him
ٱللَّهُ ۗl-lahuAllah will surely help him
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لَعَفُوٌّlaʿafuwwun(is) surely Oft-Pardoning
غَفُورٌۭghafūrunOft-Forgiving

Translation

That and whoever has retaliated with the like (of) that he was made to suffer by it then he was oppressed [on him] Allah will surely help him Allah will surely help him Indeed Allah (is) surely Oft-Pardoning Oft-Forgiving

Verse 61

ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
بِأَنَّbi-anna(is) because
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يُولِجُyūlijucauses to enter
ٱلَّيْلَal-laylathe night
فِىfīin (to)
ٱلنَّهَارِl-nahārithe day
وَيُولِجُwayūlijuand causes to enter
ٱلنَّهَارَl-nahārathe day
فِىfīin (to)
ٱلَّيْلِal-laylithe night
وَأَنَّwa-annaAnd indeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
سَمِيعٌۢsamīʿun(is) All-Hearer
بَصِيرٌۭbaṣīrunAll-Seer

Translation

That (is) because Allah causes to enter the night in (to) the day and causes to enter the day in (to) the night And indeed Allah (is) All-Hearer All-Seer

Verse 62

ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat (is)
بِأَنَّbi-annabecause
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
هُوَhuwaHe
ٱلْحَقُّl-ḥaqu(is) the Truth
وَأَنَّwa-annaand that
مَاmāwhat
يَدْعُونَyadʿūnathey invoke
مِنminbesides Him
دُونِهِۦdūnihibesides Him
هُوَhuwait
ٱلْبَـٰطِلُl-bāṭilu(is) the falsehood
وَأَنَّwa-annaAnd that
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
هُوَhuwaHe
ٱلْعَلِىُّl-ʿaliyu(is) the Most High
ٱلْكَبِيرُl-kabīruthe Most Great

Translation

That (is) because Allah He (is) the Truth and that what they invoke besides Him besides Him it (is) the falsehood And that Allah He (is) the Most High the Most Great

Verse 63

أَلَمْalamDo not
تَرَtarayou see
أَنَّannathat
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
أَنزَلَanzalasends down
مِنَminafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe sky
مَآءًۭmāanwater
فَتُصْبِحُfatuṣ'biḥuthen becomes
ٱلْأَرْضُl-arḍuthe earth
مُخْضَرَّةً ۗmukh'ḍarratangreen
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لَطِيفٌlaṭīfun(is) surely Subtle
خَبِيرٌۭkhabīrunAll-Aware

Translation

Do not you see that Allah sends down from the sky water then becomes the earth green Indeed Allah (is) surely Subtle All-Aware

Verse 64

لَّهُۥlahuFor Him
مَاmā(is) whatever
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَمَاwamāand whatever
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗl-arḍithe earth
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لَهُوَlahuwasurely, He
ٱلْغَنِىُّl-ghaniyu(is) Free of need
ٱلْحَمِيدُl-ḥamīduthe Praiseworthy

Translation

For Him (is) whatever (is) in the heavens and whatever (is) in the earth And indeed Allah surely, He (is) Free of need the Praiseworthy

Verse 65

أَلَمْalamDo not
تَرَtarayou see
أَنَّannathat
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
سَخَّرَsakhara(has) subjected
لَكُمlakumto you
مَّاmāwhat
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
وَٱلْفُلْكَwal-ful'kaand the ships
تَجْرِىtajrīthat sail
فِىfīthrough
ٱلْبَحْرِl-baḥrithe sea
بِأَمْرِهِۦbi-amrihiby His Command
وَيُمْسِكُwayum'sikuAnd He withholds
ٱلسَّمَآءَl-samāathe sky
أَنanlest
تَقَعَtaqaʿait falls
عَلَىʿalāon
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
إِلَّاillāexcept
بِإِذْنِهِۦٓ ۗbi-idh'nihiby His permission
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
بِٱلنَّاسِbil-nāsito mankind
لَرَءُوفٌۭlaraūfun(is) Full of Kindness
رَّحِيمٌۭraḥīmunMost Merciful

Translation

Do not you see that Allah (has) subjected to you what (is) in the earth and the ships that sail through the sea by His Command And He withholds the sky lest it falls on the earth except by His permission Indeed Allah to mankind (is) Full of Kindness Most Merciful

Verse 66

وَهُوَwahuwaAnd He
ٱلَّذِىٓalladhī(is) the One Who
أَحْيَاكُمْaḥyākumgave you life
ثُمَّthummathen
يُمِيتُكُمْyumītukumHe will cause you to die
ثُمَّthummathen
يُحْيِيكُمْ ۗyuḥ'yīkumHe will give you life (again)
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَl-insānaman
لَكَفُورٌۭlakafūrun(is) surely ungrateful

Translation

And He (is) the One Who gave you life then He will cause you to die then He will give you life (again) Indeed man (is) surely ungrateful

Verse 67

لِّكُلِّlikulliFor every
أُمَّةٍۢummatinnation
جَعَلْنَاjaʿalnāWe have made
مَنسَكًاmansakanrite(s)
هُمْhumthey
نَاسِكُوهُ ۖnāsikūhuperform it
فَلَاfalāSo let them not dispute with you
يُنَـٰزِعُنَّكَyunāziʿunnakaSo let them not dispute with you
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَمْرِ ۚl-amrithe matter
وَٱدْعُwa-ud'ʿubut invite (them)
إِلَىٰilāto
رَبِّكَ ۖrabbikayour Lord
إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, you
لَعَلَىٰlaʿalā(are) surely on
هُدًۭىhudanguidance
مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢmus'taqīminstraight

Translation

For every nation We have made rite(s) they perform it So let them not dispute with you So let them not dispute with you in the matter but invite (them) to your Lord Indeed, you (are) surely on guidance straight

Verse 68

وَإِنwa-inAnd if
جَـٰدَلُوكَjādalūkathey argue (with) you
فَقُلِfaqulithen say
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
أَعْلَمُaʿlamu(is) most knowing
بِمَاbimāof what
تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnayou do

Translation

And if they argue (with) you then say Allah (is) most knowing of what you do

Verse 69

ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllah
يَحْكُمُyaḥkumuwill judge
بَيْنَكُمْbaynakumbetween you
يَوْمَyawma(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
فِيمَاfīmāconcerning what
كُنتُمْkuntumyou used (to)
فِيهِfīhiin it
تَخْتَلِفُونَtakhtalifūnadiffer

Translation

Allah will judge between you (on the) Day (of) the Resurrection concerning what you used (to) in it differ

Verse 70

أَلَمْalamDo not
تَعْلَمْtaʿlamyou know
أَنَّannathat
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknows
مَاmāwhat
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe heaven
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗwal-arḍiand the earth
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
فِىfī(is) in
كِتَـٰبٍ ۚkitābina Record
إِنَّinnaindeed
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
عَلَىʿalā(is) for
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
يَسِيرٌۭyasīruneasy

Translation

Do not you know that Allah knows what (is) in the heaven and the earth Indeed that (is) in a Record indeed that (is) for Allah easy

Verse 71

وَيَعْبُدُونَwayaʿbudūnaAnd they worship
مِنminbesides Allah
دُونِdūnibesides Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahibesides Allah
مَاmāwhat
لَمْlamnot
يُنَزِّلْyunazzilHe (has) sent down
بِهِۦbihifor it
سُلْطَـٰنًۭاsul'ṭānanany authority
وَمَاwamāand what
لَيْسَlaysanot
لَهُمlahumthey have
بِهِۦbihiof it
عِلْمٌۭ ۗʿil'munany knowledge
وَمَاwamāAnd not
لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَlilẓẓālimīna(will be) for the wrongdoers
مِنminany
نَّصِيرٍۢnaṣīrinhelper

Translation

And they worship besides Allah besides Allah besides Allah what not He (has) sent down for it any authority and what not they have of it any knowledge And not (will be) for the wrongdoers any helper

Verse 72

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
تُتْلَىٰtut'lāare recited
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto them
ءَايَـٰتُنَاāyātunāOur Verses
بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢbayyinātinclear
تَعْرِفُtaʿrifuyou will recognize
فِىfīon
وُجُوهِwujūhi(the) faces
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
ٱلْمُنكَرَ ۖl-munkarathe denial
يَكَادُونَyakādūnaThey almost
يَسْطُونَyasṭūnaattack
بِٱلَّذِينَbi-alladhīnathose who
يَتْلُونَyatlūnarecite
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto them
ءَايَـٰتِنَا ۗāyātināOur Verses
قُلْqulSay
أَفَأُنَبِّئُكُمafa-unabbi-ukumThen shall I inform you
بِشَرٍّۢbisharrinof worse
مِّنminthan
ذَٰلِكُمُ ۗdhālikumuthat
ٱلنَّارُl-nāruThe Fire
وَعَدَهَاwaʿadahāAllah (has) promised it
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah (has) promised it
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(for) those who
كَفَرُوا۟ ۖkafarūdisbelieve
وَبِئْسَwabi'saand wretched
ٱلْمَصِيرُl-maṣīru(is) the destination

Translation

And when are recited to them Our Verses clear you will recognize on (the) faces (of) those who disbelieve the denial They almost attack those who recite to them Our Verses Say Then shall I inform you of worse than that The Fire Allah (has) promised it Allah (has) promised it (for) those who disbelieve and wretched (is) the destination

Verse 73

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO mankind
ٱلنَّاسُl-nāsuO mankind
ضُرِبَḍuribaIs set forth
مَثَلٌۭmathalunan example
فَٱسْتَمِعُوا۟fa-is'tamiʿūso listen
لَهُۥٓ ۚlahuto it
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whom
تَدْعُونَtadʿūnayou invoke
مِنminbesides Allah
دُونِdūnibesides Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahibesides Allah
لَنlanwill never
يَخْلُقُوا۟yakhluqūcreate
ذُبَابًۭاdhubābana fly
وَلَوِwalawieven if
ٱجْتَمَعُوا۟ij'tamaʿūthey gathered together
لَهُۥ ۖlahufor it
وَإِنwa-inAnd if
يَسْلُبْهُمُyaslub'humusnatched away from them
ٱلذُّبَابُl-dhubābuthe fly
شَيْـًۭٔاshayana thing
لَّاlānot
يَسْتَنقِذُوهُyastanqidhūhuthey (could) take it back
مِنْهُ ۚmin'hufrom it
ضَعُفَḍaʿufaSo weak
ٱلطَّالِبُl-ṭālibu(are) the seeker
وَٱلْمَطْلُوبُwal-maṭlūbuand the one who is sought

Translation

O mankind O mankind Is set forth an example so listen to it Indeed those whom you invoke besides Allah besides Allah besides Allah will never create a fly even if they gathered together for it And if snatched away from them the fly a thing not they (could) take it back from it So weak (are) the seeker and the one who is sought

Verse 74

مَاmāNot
قَدَرُوا۟qadarūthey (have) estimated
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
حَقَّḥaqqa(with) due
قَدْرِهِۦٓ ۗqadrihi[His] estimation
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لَقَوِىٌّlaqawiyyun(is) surely All-Strong
عَزِيزٌʿazīzunAll-Mighty

Translation

Not they (have) estimated Allah (with) due [His] estimation Indeed Allah (is) surely All-Strong All-Mighty

Verse 75

ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllah
يَصْطَفِىyaṣṭafīchooses
مِنَminafrom
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِl-malāikatithe Angels
رُسُلًۭاrusulanMessengers
وَمِنَwaminaand from
ٱلنَّاسِ ۚl-nāsithe mankind
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
سَمِيعٌۢsamīʿun(is) All-Hearer
بَصِيرٌۭbaṣīrunAll-Seer

Translation

Allah chooses from the Angels Messengers and from the mankind Indeed Allah (is) All-Hearer All-Seer

Verse 76

يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuHe knows
مَاmāwhat
بَيْنَbayna(is) before them
أَيْدِيهِمْaydīhim(is) before them
وَمَاwamāand what
خَلْفَهُمْ ۗkhalfahum(is) after them
وَإِلَىwa-ilāAnd to
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
تُرْجَعُtur'jaʿureturn
ٱلْأُمُورُl-umūruall the matters

Translation

He knows what (is) before them (is) before them and what (is) after them And to Allah return all the matters

Verse 77

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you who believe
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaO you who believe
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūO you who believe
ٱرْكَعُوا۟ir'kaʿūBow
وَٱسْجُدُوا۟wa-us'judūand prostrate
وَٱعْبُدُوا۟wa-uʿ'budūand worship
رَبَّكُمْrabbakumyour Lord
وَٱفْعَلُوا۟wa-if'ʿalūand do
ٱلْخَيْرَl-khayra[the] good
لَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you may
تُفْلِحُونَ ۩tuf'liḥūnabe successful

Translation

O you who believe O you who believe O you who believe Bow and prostrate and worship your Lord and do [the] good so that you may be successful

Verse 78

وَجَـٰهِدُوا۟wajāhidūAnd strive
فِىfīfor
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
حَقَّḥaqqa(with the) striving due (to) Him
جِهَادِهِۦ ۚjihādihi(with the) striving due (to) Him
هُوَhuwaHe
ٱجْتَبَىٰكُمْij'tabākum(has) chosen you
وَمَاwamāand not
جَعَلَjaʿalaplaced
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon you
فِىfīin
ٱلدِّينِl-dīnithe religion
مِنْminany
حَرَجٍۢ ۚḥarajindifficulty
مِّلَّةَmillata(The) religion
أَبِيكُمْabīkum(of) your father
إِبْرَٰهِيمَ ۚib'rāhīmaIbrahim
هُوَhuwaHe
سَمَّىٰكُمُsammākumunamed you
ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَl-mus'limīnaMuslims
مِنminbefore
قَبْلُqablubefore
وَفِىwafīand in
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
لِيَكُونَliyakūnathat may be
ٱلرَّسُولُl-rasūluthe Messenger
شَهِيدًاshahīdana witness
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumover you
وَتَكُونُوا۟watakūnūand you may be
شُهَدَآءَshuhadāawitnesses
عَلَىʿalāon
ٱلنَّاسِ ۚl-nāsithe mankind
فَأَقِيمُوا۟fa-aqīmūSo establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَl-ṣalatathe prayer
وَءَاتُوا۟waātūand give
ٱلزَّكَوٰةَl-zakatazakah
وَٱعْتَصِمُوا۟wa-iʿ'taṣimūand hold fast
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahito Allah
هُوَhuwaHe
مَوْلَىٰكُمْ ۖmawlākum(is) your Protector
فَنِعْمَfaniʿ'maso an Excellent
ٱلْمَوْلَىٰl-mawlā[the] Protector
وَنِعْمَwaniʿ'maand an Excellent
ٱلنَّصِيرُl-naṣīru[the] Helper

Translation

And strive for Allah (with the) striving due (to) Him (with the) striving due (to) Him He (has) chosen you and not placed upon you in the religion any difficulty (The) religion (of) your father Ibrahim He named you Muslims before before and in this that may be the Messenger a witness over you and you may be witnesses on the mankind So establish the prayer and give zakah and hold fast to Allah He (is) your Protector so an Excellent [the] Protector and an Excellent [the] Helper
