Chapter 24Medinan64 Verses

Verse 1

سُورَةٌsūratunA Surah
أَنزَلْنَـٰهَاanzalnāhāWe (have) sent it down
وَفَرَضْنَـٰهَاwafaraḍnāhāand We (have) made it obligatory
وَأَنزَلْنَاwa-anzalnāand We (have) revealed
فِيهَآfīhātherein
ءَايَـٰتٍۭāyātinVerses
بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢbayyinātinclear
لَّعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you may
تَذَكَّرُونَtadhakkarūnatake heed

Translation

A Surah We (have) sent it down and We (have) made it obligatory and We (have) revealed therein Verses clear so that you may take heed

Verse 2

ٱلزَّانِيَةُal-zāniyatuThe fornicatress
وَٱلزَّانِىwal-zānīand the fornicator
فَٱجْلِدُوا۟fa-ij'lidū[then] flog
كُلَّkullaeach
وَٰحِدٍۢwāḥidinone
مِّنْهُمَاmin'humāof them
مِا۟ئَةَmi-ata(with) hundred
جَلْدَةٍۢ ۖjaldatinlash(es)
وَلَاwalāAnd (let) not
تَأْخُذْكُمtakhudh'kumwithhold you
بِهِمَاbihimāpity for them
رَأْفَةٌۭrafatunpity for them
فِىfīconcerning
دِينِdīni(the) religion of Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(the) religion of Allah
إِنinif
كُنتُمْkuntumyou
تُؤْمِنُونَtu'minūnabelieve
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
وَٱلْيَوْمِwal-yawmiand the Day
ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ ۖl-ākhirithe Last
وَلْيَشْهَدْwalyashhadAnd let witness
عَذَابَهُمَاʿadhābahumātheir punishment
طَآئِفَةٌۭṭāifatuna group
مِّنَminaof
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers

Translation

The fornicatress and the fornicator [then] flog each one of them (with) hundred lash(es) And (let) not withhold you pity for them pity for them concerning (the) religion of Allah (the) religion of Allah if you believe in Allah and the Day the Last And let witness their punishment a group of the believers

Verse 3

ٱلزَّانِىal-zānīThe fornicator
لَاlā(will) not
يَنكِحُyankiḥumarry
إِلَّاillāexcept
زَانِيَةًzāniyatana fornicatress
أَوْawor
مُشْرِكَةًۭmush'rikatana polytheist woman
وَٱلزَّانِيَةُwal-zāniyatuand the fornicatress
لَاlā(will) not
يَنكِحُهَآyankiḥuhāmarry her
إِلَّاillāexcept
زَانٍzānina fornicator
أَوْawor
مُشْرِكٌۭ ۚmush'rikuna polytheist man
وَحُرِّمَwaḥurrimaAnd is forbidden
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
عَلَىʿalāto
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers

Translation

The fornicator (will) not marry except a fornicatress or a polytheist woman and the fornicatress (will) not marry her except a fornicator or a polytheist man And is forbidden that to the believers

Verse 4

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
يَرْمُونَyarmūnaaccuse
ٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتِl-muḥ'ṣanātithe chaste women
ثُمَّthummathen
لَمْlamnot
يَأْتُوا۟yatūthey bring
بِأَرْبَعَةِbi-arbaʿatifour
شُهَدَآءَshuhadāawitnesses
فَٱجْلِدُوهُمْfa-ij'lidūhumthen flog them
ثَمَـٰنِينَthamānīna(with) eighty
جَلْدَةًۭjaldatanlashe(s)
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تَقْبَلُوا۟taqbalūaccept
لَهُمْlahumtheir
شَهَـٰدَةًshahādatantestimony
أَبَدًۭا ۚabadanever
وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَwa-ulāikaAnd those
هُمُhumuthey
ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَl-fāsiqūna(are) the defiantly disobedient

Translation

And those who accuse the chaste women then not they bring four witnesses then flog them (with) eighty lashe(s) and (do) not accept their testimony ever And those they (are) the defiantly disobedient

Verse 5

إِلَّاillāExcept
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
تَابُوا۟tābūrepent
مِنۢminafter
بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
وَأَصْلَحُوا۟wa-aṣlaḥūand reform
فَإِنَّfa-innaThen indeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
غَفُورٌۭghafūrun(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭraḥīmunMost Merciful

Translation

Except those who repent after after that and reform Then indeed Allah (is) Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful

Verse 6

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
يَرْمُونَyarmūnaaccuse
أَزْوَٰجَهُمْazwājahumtheir spouses
وَلَمْwalamand not
يَكُنyakunhave
لَّهُمْlahumfor them
شُهَدَآءُshuhadāuwitnesses
إِلَّآillāexcept
أَنفُسُهُمْanfusuhumthemselves
فَشَهَـٰدَةُfashahādatuthen (the) testimony
أَحَدِهِمْaḥadihim(of) one of them
أَرْبَعُarbaʿu(is) four
شَهَـٰدَٰتٍۭshahādātintestimonies
بِٱللَّهِ ۙbil-lahiby Allah
إِنَّهُۥinnahuthat he
لَمِنَlamina(is) surely of
ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَl-ṣādiqīnathe truthful

Translation

And those who accuse their spouses and not have for them witnesses except themselves then (the) testimony (of) one of them (is) four testimonies by Allah that he (is) surely of the truthful

Verse 7

وَٱلْخَـٰمِسَةُwal-khāmisatuAnd the fifth
أَنَّannathat
لَعْنَتَlaʿnata(the) curse of Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(the) curse of Allah
عَلَيْهِʿalayhi(be) upon him
إِنinif
كَانَkānahe is
مِنَminaof
ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَl-kādhibīnathe liars

Translation

And the fifth that (the) curse of Allah (the) curse of Allah (be) upon him if he is of the liars

Verse 8

وَيَدْرَؤُا۟wayadra-uBut it would prevent
عَنْهَاʿanhāfrom her
ٱلْعَذَابَl-ʿadhābathe punishment
أَنanthat
تَشْهَدَtashhadashe bears witness
أَرْبَعَarbaʿafour
شَهَـٰدَٰتٍۭshahādātintestimonies
بِٱللَّهِ ۙbil-lahiby Allah
إِنَّهُۥinnahuthat he
لَمِنَlamina(is) surely of
ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَl-kādhibīnathe liars

Translation

But it would prevent from her the punishment that she bears witness four testimonies by Allah that he (is) surely of the liars

Verse 9

وَٱلْخَـٰمِسَةَwal-khāmisataAnd the fifth
أَنَّannathat
غَضَبَghaḍabathe wrath of Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahithe wrath of Allah
عَلَيْهَآʿalayhā(be) upon her
إِنinif
كَانَkānahe is
مِنَminaof
ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَl-ṣādiqīnathe truthful

Translation

And the fifth that the wrath of Allah the wrath of Allah (be) upon her if he is of the truthful

Verse 10

وَلَوْلَاwalawlāAnd if not
فَضْلُfaḍlu(for) the Grace of Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(for) the Grace of Allah
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon you
وَرَحْمَتُهُۥwaraḥmatuhuand His Mercy
وَأَنَّwa-annaand that
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
تَوَّابٌtawwābun(is) Oft-Returning (to Mercy)
حَكِيمٌḥakīmunAll-Wise

Translation

And if not (for) the Grace of Allah (for) the Grace of Allah upon you and His Mercy and that Allah (is) Oft-Returning (to Mercy) All-Wise

Verse 11

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
جَآءُوjāūbrought
بِٱلْإِفْكِbil-if'kithe lie
عُصْبَةٌۭʿuṣ'batun(are) a group
مِّنكُمْ ۚminkumamong you
لَاlā(Do) not
تَحْسَبُوهُtaḥsabūhuthink it
شَرًّۭاsharranbad
لَّكُم ۖlakumfor you
بَلْbalnay
هُوَhuwait
خَيْرٌۭkhayrun(is) good
لَّكُمْ ۚlakumfor you
لِكُلِّlikulliFor every
ٱمْرِئٍۢim'ri-inperson
مِّنْهُمmin'humamong them
مَّاmā(is) what
ٱكْتَسَبَik'tasabahe earned
مِنَminaof
ٱلْإِثْمِ ۚl-ith'mithe sin
وَٱلَّذِىwa-alladhīand the one who
تَوَلَّىٰtawallātook upon himself a greater share of it
كِبْرَهُۥkib'rahutook upon himself a greater share of it
مِنْهُمْmin'humamong them
لَهُۥlahufor him
عَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishment
عَظِيمٌۭʿaẓīmungreat

Translation

Indeed those who brought the lie (are) a group among you (Do) not think it bad for you nay it (is) good for you For every person among them (is) what he earned of the sin and the one who took upon himself a greater share of it took upon himself a greater share of it among them for him (is) a punishment great

Verse 12

لَّوْلَآlawlāWhy not
إِذْidhwhen
سَمِعْتُمُوهُsamiʿ'tumūhuyou heard it
ظَنَّẓannathink
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَl-mu'minūnathe believing men
وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتُwal-mu'minātuand the believing women
بِأَنفُسِهِمْbi-anfusihimgood of themselves
خَيْرًۭاkhayrangood of themselves
وَقَالُوا۟waqālūand say
هَـٰذَآhādhāThis
إِفْكٌۭif'kun(is) a lie
مُّبِينٌۭmubīnunclear

Translation

Why not when you heard it think the believing men and the believing women good of themselves good of themselves and say This (is) a lie clear

Verse 13

لَّوْلَاlawlāWhy (did) not
جَآءُوjāūthey bring
عَلَيْهِʿalayhifor it
بِأَرْبَعَةِbi-arbaʿatifour
شُهَدَآءَ ۚshuhadāawitnesses
فَإِذْfa-idhThen when
لَمْlamnot
يَأْتُوا۟yatūthey brought
بِٱلشُّهَدَآءِbil-shuhadāithe witnesses
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikathen those
عِندَʿindanear Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahinear Allah
هُمُhumuthey
ٱلْكَـٰذِبُونَl-kādhibūna(are) the liars

Translation

Why (did) not they bring for it four witnesses Then when not they brought the witnesses then those near Allah near Allah they (are) the liars

Verse 14

وَلَوْلَاwalawlāAnd if not
فَضْلُfaḍlu(for the) Grace
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon you
وَرَحْمَتُهُۥwaraḥmatuhuand His Mercy
فِىfīin
ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāthe world
وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِwal-ākhiratiand the Hereafter
لَمَسَّكُمْlamassakumsurely would have touched you
فِىfīin
مَآmāwhat
أَفَضْتُمْafaḍtumyou had rushed glibly
فِيهِfīhiconcerning it
عَذَابٌʿadhābuna punishment
عَظِيمٌʿaẓīmungreat

Translation

And if not (for the) Grace (of) Allah upon you and His Mercy in the world and the Hereafter surely would have touched you in what you had rushed glibly concerning it a punishment great

Verse 15

إِذْidhWhen
تَلَقَّوْنَهُۥtalaqqawnahuyou received it
بِأَلْسِنَتِكُمْbi-alsinatikumwith your tongues
وَتَقُولُونَwataqūlūnaand you said
بِأَفْوَاهِكُمbi-afwāhikumwith your mouths
مَّاmāwhat
لَيْسَlaysanot
لَكُمlakumfor you
بِهِۦbihiof it
عِلْمٌۭʿil'munany knowledge
وَتَحْسَبُونَهُۥwataḥsabūnahuand you thought it
هَيِّنًۭاhayyinan(was) insignificant
وَهُوَwahuwawhile it
عِندَʿinda(was) near Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(was) near Allah
عَظِيمٌۭʿaẓīmungreat

Translation

When you received it with your tongues and you said with your mouths what not for you of it any knowledge and you thought it (was) insignificant while it (was) near Allah (was) near Allah great

Verse 16

وَلَوْلَآwalawlāAnd why not
إِذْidhwhen
سَمِعْتُمُوهُsamiʿ'tumūhuyou heard it
قُلْتُمqul'tumyou said
مَّاmāNot
يَكُونُyakūnuit is
لَنَآlanāfor us
أَنanthat
نَّتَكَلَّمَnatakallamawe speak
بِهَـٰذَاbihādhāof this
سُبْحَـٰنَكَsub'ḥānakaGlory be to You
هَـٰذَاhādhāThis
بُهْتَـٰنٌbuh'tānun(is) a slander
عَظِيمٌۭʿaẓīmungreat

Translation

And why not when you heard it you said Not it is for us that we speak of this Glory be to You This (is) a slander great

Verse 17

يَعِظُكُمُyaʿiẓukumuAllah warns you
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah warns you
أَنanthat
تَعُودُوا۟taʿūdūyou return
لِمِثْلِهِۦٓlimith'lihi(to the) like of it
أَبَدًاabadanever
إِنinif
كُنتُمkuntumyou are
مُّؤْمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers

Translation

Allah warns you Allah warns you that you return (to the) like of it ever if you are believers

Verse 18

وَيُبَيِّنُwayubayyinuAnd Allah makes clear
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAnd Allah makes clear
لَكُمُlakumuto you
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ ۚl-āyātithe Verses
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
عَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-Knower
حَكِيمٌḥakīmunAll-Wise

Translation

And Allah makes clear And Allah makes clear to you the Verses And Allah (is) All-Knower All-Wise

Verse 19

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
يُحِبُّونَyuḥibbūnalike
أَنanthat
تَشِيعَtashīʿa(should) spread
ٱلْفَـٰحِشَةُl-fāḥishatuthe immorality
فِىfīamong
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
لَهُمْlahumfor them
عَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishment
أَلِيمٌۭalīmunpainful
فِىfīin
ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāthe world
وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۚwal-ākhiratiand the Hereafter
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknows
وَأَنتُمْwa-antumwhile you
لَاlā(do) not
تَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūnaknow

Translation

Indeed those who like that (should) spread the immorality among those who believe for them (is) a punishment painful in the world and the Hereafter And Allah knows while you (do) not know

Verse 20

وَلَوْلَاwalawlāAnd if not
فَضْلُfaḍlu(for the) Grace of Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(for the) Grace of Allah
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon you
وَرَحْمَتُهُۥwaraḥmatuhuand His Mercy
وَأَنَّwa-annaAnd that
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
رَءُوفٌۭraūfun(is) Full of Kindness
رَّحِيمٌۭraḥīmunMost Merciful

Translation

And if not (for the) Grace of Allah (for the) Grace of Allah upon you and His Mercy And that Allah (is) Full of Kindness Most Merciful

Verse 21

۞ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you who believe
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaO you who believe
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūO you who believe
لَاlā(Do) not
تَتَّبِعُوا۟tattabiʿūfollow
خُطُوَٰتِkhuṭuwāti(the) footsteps
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ۚl-shayṭāni(of) the Shaitaan
وَمَنwamanand whoever
يَتَّبِعْyattabiʿfollows
خُطُوَٰتِkhuṭuwāti(the) footsteps
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِl-shayṭāni(of) the Shaitaan
فَإِنَّهُۥfa-innahuthen indeed, he
يَأْمُرُyamurucommands
بِٱلْفَحْشَآءِbil-faḥshāithe immorality
وَٱلْمُنكَرِ ۚwal-munkariand the evil
وَلَوْلَاwalawlāAnd if not
فَضْلُfaḍlu(for the) Grace of Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(for the) Grace of Allah
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon you
وَرَحْمَتُهُۥwaraḥmatuhuand His Mercy
مَاmānot
زَكَىٰzakā(would) have been pure
مِنكُمminkumamong you
مِّنْminanyone
أَحَدٍaḥadinanyone
أَبَدًۭاabadanever
وَلَـٰكِنَّwalākinnabut
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يُزَكِّىyuzakkīpurifies
مَنmanwhom
يَشَآءُ ۗyashāuHe wills
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
سَمِيعٌsamīʿun(is) All-Hearer
عَلِيمٌۭʿalīmunAll-Knower

Translation

O you who believe O you who believe O you who believe (Do) not follow (the) footsteps (of) the Shaitaan and whoever follows (the) footsteps (of) the Shaitaan then indeed, he commands the immorality and the evil And if not (for the) Grace of Allah (for the) Grace of Allah upon you and His Mercy not (would) have been pure among you anyone anyone ever but Allah purifies whom He wills And Allah (is) All-Hearer All-Knower

Verse 22

وَلَاwalāAnd not
يَأْتَلِyatalilet swear
أُو۟لُوا۟ulūthose of virtue
ٱلْفَضْلِl-faḍlithose of virtue
مِنكُمْminkumamong you
وَٱلسَّعَةِwal-saʿatiand the amplitude of means
أَنanthat
يُؤْتُوٓا۟yu'tūthey give
أُو۟لِىulī(to) the near of kin
ٱلْقُرْبَىٰl-qur'bā(to) the near of kin
وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينَwal-masākīnaand the needy
وَٱلْمُهَـٰجِرِينَwal-muhājirīnaand the emigrants
فِىfīin
سَبِيلِsabīli(the) way
ٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahi(of) Allah
وَلْيَعْفُوا۟walyaʿfūAnd let them pardon
وَلْيَصْفَحُوٓا۟ ۗwalyaṣfaḥūand let them overlook
أَلَاalā(Do) not
تُحِبُّونَtuḥibbūnayou like
أَنanthat
يَغْفِرَyaghfiraAllah should forgive
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah should forgive
لَكُمْ ۗlakumyou
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
غَفُورٌۭghafūrun(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌraḥīmunMost Merciful

Translation

And not let swear those of virtue those of virtue among you and the amplitude of means that they give (to) the near of kin (to) the near of kin and the needy and the emigrants in (the) way (of) Allah And let them pardon and let them overlook (Do) not you like that Allah should forgive Allah should forgive you And Allah (is) Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful

Verse 23

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
يَرْمُونَyarmūnaaccuse
ٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتِl-muḥ'ṣanātithe chaste women
ٱلْغَـٰفِلَـٰتِl-ghāfilātithe unaware women
ٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِl-mu'mināti(and) the believing women
لُعِنُوا۟luʿinūare cursed
فِىfīin
ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāthe world
وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِwal-ākhiratiand the Hereafter
وَلَهُمْwalahumAnd for them
عَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishment
عَظِيمٌۭʿaẓīmungreat

Translation

Indeed those who accuse the chaste women the unaware women (and) the believing women are cursed in the world and the Hereafter And for them (is) a punishment great

Verse 24

يَوْمَyawma(On a) Day
تَشْهَدُtashhaduwill bear witness
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimagainst them
أَلْسِنَتُهُمْalsinatuhumtheir tongues
وَأَيْدِيهِمْwa-aydīhimand their hands
وَأَرْجُلُهُمwa-arjuluhumand their feet
بِمَاbimāfor what
كَانُوا۟kānūthey used
يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūna(to) do

Translation

(On a) Day will bear witness against them their tongues and their hands and their feet for what they used (to) do

Verse 25

يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinThat Day
يُوَفِّيهِمُyuwaffīhimuAllah will pay them in full
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah will pay them in full
دِينَهُمُdīnahumutheir recompense
ٱلْحَقَّl-ḥaqathe due
وَيَعْلَمُونَwayaʿlamūnaand they will know
أَنَّannathat
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
هُوَhuwaHe
ٱلْحَقُّl-ḥaqu(is) the Truth
ٱلْمُبِينُl-mubīnuthe Manifest

Translation

That Day Allah will pay them in full Allah will pay them in full their recompense the due and they will know that Allah He (is) the Truth the Manifest

Verse 26

ٱلْخَبِيثَـٰتُal-khabīthātuEvil women
لِلْخَبِيثِينَlil'khabīthīna(are) for evil men
وَٱلْخَبِيثُونَwal-khabīthūnaand evil men
لِلْخَبِيثَـٰتِ ۖlil'khabīthāti(are) for evil women
وَٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتُwal-ṭayibātuAnd good women
لِلطَّيِّبِينَlilṭṭayyibīna(are) for good men
وَٱلطَّيِّبُونَwal-ṭayibūnaand good men
لِلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ ۚlilṭṭayyibāti(are) for good women
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose
مُبَرَّءُونَmubarraūna(are) innocent
مِمَّاmimmāof what
يَقُولُونَ ۖyaqūlūnathey say
لَهُمlahumFor them
مَّغْفِرَةٌۭmaghfiratun(is) forgiveness
وَرِزْقٌۭwariz'qunand a provision
كَرِيمٌۭkarīmunnoble

Translation

Evil women (are) for evil men and evil men (are) for evil women And good women (are) for good men and good men (are) for good women Those (are) innocent of what they say For them (is) forgiveness and a provision noble

Verse 27

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
لَاlā(Do) not
تَدْخُلُوا۟tadkhulūenter
بُيُوتًاbuyūtanhouses
غَيْرَghayraother (than)
بُيُوتِكُمْbuyūtikumyour houses
حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
تَسْتَأْنِسُوا۟tastanisūyou have asked permission
وَتُسَلِّمُوا۟watusallimūand you have greeted
عَلَىٰٓʿalā[on]
أَهْلِهَا ۚahlihāits inhabitants
ذَٰلِكُمْdhālikumThat
خَيْرٌۭkhayrun(is) best
لَّكُمْlakumfor you
لَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you may
تَذَكَّرُونَtadhakkarūnapay heed

Translation

O you who believe (Do) not enter houses other (than) your houses until you have asked permission and you have greeted [on] its inhabitants That (is) best for you so that you may pay heed

Verse 28

فَإِنfa-inBut if
لَّمْlamnot
تَجِدُوا۟tajidūyou find
فِيهَآfīhāin it
أَحَدًۭاaḥadananyone
فَلَاfalāthen (do) not
تَدْخُلُوهَاtadkhulūhāenter it
حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
يُؤْذَنَyu'dhanapermission has been given
لَكُمْ ۖlakumto you
وَإِنwa-inAnd if
قِيلَqīlait is said
لَكُمُlakumuto you
ٱرْجِعُوا۟ir'jiʿūGo back
فَٱرْجِعُوا۟ ۖfa-ir'jiʿūthen go back
هُوَhuwait
أَزْكَىٰazkā(is) purer
لَكُمْ ۚlakumfor you
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
بِمَاbimāof what
تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnayou do
عَلِيمٌۭʿalīmun(is) All-Knower

Translation

But if not you find in it anyone then (do) not enter it until permission has been given to you And if it is said to you Go back then go back it (is) purer for you And Allah of what you do (is) All-Knower

Verse 29

لَّيْسَlaysaNot
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon you
جُنَاحٌjunāḥun(is) any blame
أَنanthat
تَدْخُلُوا۟tadkhulūyou enter
بُيُوتًاbuyūtanhouses
غَيْرَghayranot
مَسْكُونَةٍۢmaskūnatininhabited
فِيهَاfīhāin it
مَتَـٰعٌۭmatāʿun(is) a provision
لَّكُمْ ۚlakumfor you
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknows
مَاmāwhat
تُبْدُونَtub'dūnayou reveal
وَمَاwamāand what
تَكْتُمُونَtaktumūnayou conceal

Translation

Not upon you (is) any blame that you enter houses not inhabited in it (is) a provision for you And Allah knows what you reveal and what you conceal

Verse 30

قُلqulSay
لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَlil'mu'minīnato the believing men
يَغُضُّوا۟yaghuḍḍūthey should lower
مِنْmintheir gaze
أَبْصَـٰرِهِمْabṣārihimtheir gaze
وَيَحْفَظُوا۟wayaḥfaẓūand they should guard
فُرُوجَهُمْ ۚfurūjahumtheir chastity
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
أَزْكَىٰazkā(is) purer
لَهُمْ ۗlahumfor them
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
خَبِيرٌۢkhabīrun(is) All-Aware
بِمَاbimāof what
يَصْنَعُونَyaṣnaʿūnathey do

Translation

Say to the believing men they should lower their gaze their gaze and they should guard their chastity That (is) purer for them Indeed Allah (is) All-Aware of what they do

Verse 31

وَقُلwaqulAnd say
لِّلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِlil'mu'minātito the believing women
يَغْضُضْنَyaghḍuḍ'na(that) they should lower
مِنْmin[of]
أَبْصَـٰرِهِنَّabṣārihinnatheir gaze
وَيَحْفَظْنَwayaḥfaẓnaand they should guard
فُرُوجَهُنَّfurūjahunnatheir chastity
وَلَاwalāand not
يُبْدِينَyub'dīna(to) display
زِينَتَهُنَّzīnatahunnatheir adornment
إِلَّاillāexcept
مَاmāwhat
ظَهَرَẓaharais apparent
مِنْهَا ۖmin'hāof it
وَلْيَضْرِبْنَwalyaḍrib'naAnd let them draw
بِخُمُرِهِنَّbikhumurihinnatheir head covers
عَلَىٰʿalāover
جُيُوبِهِنَّ ۖjuyūbihinnatheir bosoms
وَلَاwalāand not
يُبْدِينَyub'dīna(to) display
زِينَتَهُنَّzīnatahunnatheir adornment
إِلَّاillāexcept
لِبُعُولَتِهِنَّlibuʿūlatihinnato their husbands
أَوْawor
ءَابَآئِهِنَّābāihinnatheir fathers
أَوْawor
ءَابَآءِābāifathers
بُعُولَتِهِنَّbuʿūlatihinna(of) their husbands
أَوْawor
أَبْنَآئِهِنَّabnāihinnatheir sons
أَوْawor
أَبْنَآءِabnāisons
بُعُولَتِهِنَّbuʿūlatihinna(of) their husbands
أَوْawor
إِخْوَٰنِهِنَّikh'wānihinnatheir brothers
أَوْawor
بَنِىٓbanīsons
إِخْوَٰنِهِنَّikh'wānihinna(of) their brothers
أَوْawor
بَنِىٓbanīsons
أَخَوَٰتِهِنَّakhawātihinna(of) their sisters
أَوْawor
نِسَآئِهِنَّnisāihinnatheir women
أَوْawor
مَاmāwhat
مَلَكَتْmalakatpossess
أَيْمَـٰنُهُنَّaymānuhunnatheir right hands
أَوِawior
ٱلتَّـٰبِعِينَl-tābiʿīnathe attendants
غَيْرِghayrihaving no physical desire
أُو۟لِىulīhaving no physical desire
ٱلْإِرْبَةِl-ir'batihaving no physical desire
مِنَminaamong
ٱلرِّجَالِl-rijāli[the] men
أَوِawior
ٱلطِّفْلِl-ṭif'li[the] children
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
لَمْlam(are) not
يَظْهَرُوا۟yaẓharūaware
عَلَىٰʿalāof
عَوْرَٰتِʿawrātiprivate aspects
ٱلنِّسَآءِ ۖl-nisāi(of) the women
وَلَاwalāAnd not
يَضْرِبْنَyaḍrib'nalet them stamp
بِأَرْجُلِهِنَّbi-arjulihinnatheir feet
لِيُعْلَمَliyuʿ'lamato make known
مَاmāwhat
يُخْفِينَyukh'fīnathey conceal
مِنminof
زِينَتِهِنَّ ۚzīnatihinnatheir adornment
وَتُوبُوٓا۟watūbūAnd turn
إِلَىilāto
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
جَمِيعًاjamīʿanaltogether
أَيُّهَayyuhaO believers
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَl-mu'minūnaO believers
لَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumSo that you may
تُفْلِحُونَtuf'liḥūnasucceed

Translation

And say to the believing women (that) they should lower [of] their gaze and they should guard their chastity and not (to) display their adornment except what is apparent of it And let them draw their head covers over their bosoms and not (to) display their adornment except to their husbands or their fathers or fathers (of) their husbands or their sons or sons (of) their husbands or their brothers or sons (of) their brothers or sons (of) their sisters or their women or what possess their right hands or the attendants having no physical desire having no physical desire having no physical desire among [the] men or [the] children who (are) not aware of private aspects (of) the women And not let them stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment And turn to Allah altogether O believers O believers So that you may succeed

Verse 32

وَأَنكِحُوا۟wa-ankiḥūAnd marry
ٱلْأَيَـٰمَىٰl-ayāmāthe single
مِنكُمْminkumamong you
وَٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَwal-ṣāliḥīnaand the righteous
مِنْminamong
عِبَادِكُمْʿibādikumyour male slaves
وَإِمَآئِكُمْ ۚwa-imāikumand your female slaves
إِنinIf
يَكُونُوا۟yakūnūthey are
فُقَرَآءَfuqarāapoor
يُغْنِهِمُyugh'nihimuAllah will enrich them
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah will enrich them
مِنminfrom
فَضْلِهِۦ ۗfaḍlihiHis Bounty
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
وَٰسِعٌwāsiʿun(is) All-Encompassing
عَلِيمٌۭʿalīmunAll-Knowing

Translation

And marry the single among you and the righteous among your male slaves and your female slaves If they are poor Allah will enrich them Allah will enrich them from His Bounty And Allah (is) All-Encompassing All-Knowing

Verse 33

وَلْيَسْتَعْفِفِwalyastaʿfifiAnd let be chaste
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
لَاlā(do) not
يَجِدُونَyajidūnafind
نِكَاحًاnikāḥan(means for) marriage
حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
يُغْنِيَهُمُyugh'niyahumuAllah enriches them
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah enriches them
مِنminfrom
فَضْلِهِۦ ۗfaḍlihiHis Bounty
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
يَبْتَغُونَyabtaghūnaseek
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe writing
مِمَّاmimmāfrom (those) whom
مَلَكَتْmalakatpossess
أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْaymānukumyour right hands
فَكَاتِبُوهُمْfakātibūhumthen give them (the) writing
إِنْinif
عَلِمْتُمْʿalim'tumyou know
فِيهِمْfīhimin them
خَيْرًۭا ۖkhayranany good
وَءَاتُوهُمwaātūhumand give them
مِّنminfrom
مَّالِmālithe wealth of Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahithe wealth of Allah
ٱلَّذِىٓalladhīwhich
ءَاتَىٰكُمْ ۚātākumHe has given you
وَلَاwalāAnd (do) not
تُكْرِهُوا۟tuk'rihūcompel
فَتَيَـٰتِكُمْfatayātikumyour slave girls
عَلَىʿalāto
ٱلْبِغَآءِl-bighāi[the] prostitution
إِنْinif
أَرَدْنَaradnathey desire
تَحَصُّنًۭاtaḥaṣṣunanchastity
لِّتَبْتَغُوا۟litabtaghūthat you may seek
عَرَضَʿaraḍatemporary gain
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِl-ḥayati(of) the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚl-dun'yā(of) the world
وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
يُكْرِههُّنَّyuk'rihhunnacompels them
فَإِنَّfa-innathen indeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
مِنۢminafter
بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
إِكْرَٰهِهِنَّik'rāhihinnatheir compulsion
غَفُورٌۭghafūrun(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭraḥīmunMost Merciful

Translation

And let be chaste those who (do) not find (means for) marriage until Allah enriches them Allah enriches them from His Bounty And those who seek the writing from (those) whom possess your right hands then give them (the) writing if you know in them any good and give them from the wealth of Allah the wealth of Allah which He has given you And (do) not compel your slave girls to [the] prostitution if they desire chastity that you may seek temporary gain (of) the life (of) the world And whoever compels them then indeed Allah after after their compulsion (is) Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful

Verse 34

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd verily
أَنزَلْنَآanzalnāWe have sent down
إِلَيْكُمْilaykumto you
ءَايَـٰتٍۢāyātinVerses
مُّبَيِّنَـٰتٍۢmubayyinātinclear
وَمَثَلًۭاwamathalanand an example
مِّنَminaof
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
خَلَوْا۟khalawpassed away
مِنminbefore you
قَبْلِكُمْqablikumbefore you
وَمَوْعِظَةًۭwamawʿiẓatanand an admonition
لِّلْمُتَّقِينَlil'muttaqīnafor those who fear (Allah)

Translation

And verily We have sent down to you Verses clear and an example of those who passed away before you before you and an admonition for those who fear (Allah)

Verse 35

۞ ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllah
نُورُnūru(is the) Light
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚwal-arḍiand the earth
مَثَلُmathalu(The) example
نُورِهِۦnūrihi(of) His Light
كَمِشْكَوٰةٍۢkamish'katin(is) like a niche
فِيهَاfīhāin it
مِصْبَاحٌ ۖmiṣ'bāḥun(is) a lamp
ٱلْمِصْبَاحُl-miṣ'bāḥuthe lamp
فِىfī(is) in
زُجَاجَةٍ ۖzujājatina glass
ٱلزُّجَاجَةُl-zujājatuthe glass
كَأَنَّهَاka-annahāas if it were
كَوْكَبٌۭkawkabuna star
دُرِّىٌّۭdurriyyunbrilliant
يُوقَدُyūqadu(which) is lit
مِنminfrom
شَجَرَةٍۢshajaratina tree
مُّبَـٰرَكَةٍۢmubārakatinblessed
زَيْتُونَةٍۢzaytūnatinan olive
لَّاlānot
شَرْقِيَّةٍۢsharqiyyatin(of the) east
وَلَاwalāand not
غَرْبِيَّةٍۢgharbiyyatin(of the) west
يَكَادُyakāduwould almost
زَيْتُهَاzaytuhāits oil
يُضِىٓءُyuḍīuglow
وَلَوْwalaweven if
لَمْlamnot
تَمْسَسْهُtamsashutouched it
نَارٌۭ ۚnārunfire
نُّورٌnūrunLight
عَلَىٰʿalāupon
نُورٍۢ ۗnūrinLight
يَهْدِىyahdīAllah guides
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah guides
لِنُورِهِۦlinūrihito His Light
مَنmanwhom
يَشَآءُ ۚyashāuHe wills
وَيَضْرِبُwayaḍribuAnd Allah sets forth
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAnd Allah sets forth
ٱلْأَمْثَـٰلَl-amthālathe examples
لِلنَّاسِ ۗlilnnāsifor the mankind
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
بِكُلِّbikulliof every
شَىْءٍshayinthing
عَلِيمٌۭʿalīmun(is) All-Knower

Translation

Allah (is the) Light (of) the heavens and the earth (The) example (of) His Light (is) like a niche in it (is) a lamp the lamp (is) in a glass the glass as if it were a star brilliant (which) is lit from a tree blessed an olive not (of the) east and not (of the) west would almost its oil glow even if not touched it fire Light upon Light Allah guides Allah guides to His Light whom He wills And Allah sets forth And Allah sets forth the examples for the mankind And Allah of every thing (is) All-Knower

Verse 36

فِىfīIn
بُيُوتٍbuyūtinhouses
أَذِنَadhina(which) Allah ordered
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(which) Allah ordered
أَنanthat
تُرْفَعَtur'faʿathey be raised
وَيُذْكَرَwayudh'karaand be mentioned
فِيهَاfīhāin them
ٱسْمُهُۥus'muhuHis name
يُسَبِّحُyusabbiḥuGlorify
لَهُۥlahu[to] Him
فِيهَاfīhāin them
بِٱلْغُدُوِّbil-ghuduwiin the mornings
وَٱلْـَٔاصَالِwal-āṣāliand (in) the evenings

Translation

In houses (which) Allah ordered (which) Allah ordered that they be raised and be mentioned in them His name Glorify [to] Him in them in the mornings and (in) the evenings

Verse 37

رِجَالٌۭrijālunMen
لَّاlānot
تُلْهِيهِمْtul'hīhimdistracts them
تِجَـٰرَةٌۭtijāratuntrade
وَلَاwalāand not
بَيْعٌbayʿunsale
عَنʿanfrom
ذِكْرِdhik'ri(the) remembrance of Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(the) remembrance of Allah
وَإِقَامِwa-iqāmiand (from) establishing
ٱلصَّلَوٰةِl-ṣalatithe prayer
وَإِيتَآءِwaītāiand giving
ٱلزَّكَوٰةِ ۙl-zakatizakah
يَخَافُونَyakhāfūnaThey fear
يَوْمًۭاyawmana Day
تَتَقَلَّبُtataqallabuwill turn about
فِيهِfīhitherein
ٱلْقُلُوبُl-qulūbuthe hearts
وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُwal-abṣāruand the eyes

Translation

Men not distracts them trade and not sale from (the) remembrance of Allah (the) remembrance of Allah and (from) establishing the prayer and giving zakah They fear a Day will turn about therein the hearts and the eyes

Verse 38

لِيَجْزِيَهُمُliyajziyahumuThat Allah may reward them
ٱللَّهُl-lahuThat Allah may reward them
أَحْسَنَaḥsana(with the) best
مَاmā(of) what
عَمِلُوا۟ʿamilūthey did
وَيَزِيدَهُمwayazīdahumand increase them
مِّنminfrom
فَضْلِهِۦ ۗfaḍlihiHis Bounty
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
يَرْزُقُyarzuquprovides
مَنmanwhom
يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
بِغَيْرِbighayriwithout
حِسَابٍۢḥisābinmeasure

Translation

That Allah may reward them That Allah may reward them (with the) best (of) what they did and increase them from His Bounty And Allah provides whom He wills without measure

Verse 39

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaBut those who
كَفَرُوٓا۟kafarūdisbelieve
أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْaʿmāluhumtheir deeds
كَسَرَابٍۭkasarābin(are) like a mirage
بِقِيعَةٍۢbiqīʿatinin a lowland
يَحْسَبُهُyaḥsabuhuthinks it
ٱلظَّمْـَٔانُl-ẓamānuthe thirsty one
مَآءًmāan(to be) water
حَتَّىٰٓḥattāuntil
إِذَاidhāwhen
جَآءَهُۥjāahuhe comes to it
لَمْlamnot
يَجِدْهُyajid'huhe finds it
شَيْـًۭٔاshayan(to be) anything
وَوَجَدَwawajadabut he finds
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
عِندَهُۥʿindahubefore him
فَوَفَّىٰهُfawaffāhuHe will pay him in full
حِسَابَهُۥ ۗḥisābahuhis due
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
سَرِيعُsarīʿu(is) swift
ٱلْحِسَابِl-ḥisābi(in) the account

Translation

But those who disbelieve their deeds (are) like a mirage in a lowland thinks it the thirsty one (to be) water until when he comes to it not he finds it (to be) anything but he finds Allah before him He will pay him in full his due And Allah (is) swift (in) the account

Verse 40

أَوْawOr
كَظُلُمَـٰتٍۢkaẓulumātin(is) like (the) darkness[es]
فِىfīin
بَحْرٍۢbaḥrina sea
لُّجِّىٍّۢlujjiyyindeep
يَغْشَىٰهُyaghshāhucovers it
مَوْجٌۭmawjuna wave
مِّنminon it
فَوْقِهِۦfawqihion it
مَوْجٌۭmawjuna wave
مِّنminon it
فَوْقِهِۦfawqihion it
سَحَابٌۭ ۚsaḥābuna cloud
ظُلُمَـٰتٌۢẓulumātundarkness[es]
بَعْضُهَاbaʿḍuhāsome of it
فَوْقَfawqaon
بَعْضٍbaʿḍinothers
إِذَآidhāWhen
أَخْرَجَakhrajahe puts out
يَدَهُۥyadahuhis hand
لَمْlamhardly
يَكَدْyakadhardly
يَرَىٰهَا ۗyarāhāhe (can) see it
وَمَنwamanAnd (for) whom
لَّمْlamnot
يَجْعَلِyajʿaliAllah (has) made
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah (has) made
لَهُۥlahufor him
نُورًۭاnūrana light
فَمَاfamāthen not
لَهُۥlahufor him
مِنmin(is) any
نُّورٍnūrinlight

Translation

Or (is) like (the) darkness[es] in a sea deep covers it a wave on it on it a wave on it on it a cloud darkness[es] some of it on others When he puts out his hand hardly hardly he (can) see it And (for) whom not Allah (has) made Allah (has) made for him a light then not for him (is) any light

Verse 41

أَلَمْalamDo not
تَرَtarayou see
أَنَّannathat
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يُسَبِّحُyusabbiḥuglorify
لَهُۥlahuHim
مَنmanwhoever
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth
وَٱلطَّيْرُwal-ṭayruand the birds
صَـٰٓفَّـٰتٍۢ ۖṣāffātin(with) wings outspread
كُلٌّۭkullunEach one
قَدْqadverily
عَلِمَʿalimaknows
صَلَاتَهُۥṣalātahuits prayer
وَتَسْبِيحَهُۥ ۗwatasbīḥahuand its glorification
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
عَلِيمٌۢʿalīmun(is) All-Knower
بِمَاbimāof what
يَفْعَلُونَyafʿalūnathey do

Translation

Do not you see that Allah glorify Him whoever (is) in the heavens and the earth and the birds (with) wings outspread Each one verily knows its prayer and its glorification And Allah (is) All-Knower of what they do

Verse 42

وَلِلَّهِwalillahiAnd to Allah (belongs)
مُلْكُmul'ku(the) dominion
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖwal-arḍiand the earth
وَإِلَىwa-ilāAnd to
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
ٱلْمَصِيرُl-maṣīru(is) the destination

Translation

And to Allah (belongs) (the) dominion (of) the heavens and the earth And to Allah (is) the destination

Verse 43

أَلَمْalamDo not
تَرَtarayou see
أَنَّannathat
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يُزْجِىyuz'jīdrives
سَحَابًۭاsaḥābanclouds
ثُمَّthummathen
يُؤَلِّفُyu-allifujoins
بَيْنَهُۥbaynahubetween them
ثُمَّthummathen
يَجْعَلُهُۥyajʿaluhumakes them
رُكَامًۭاrukāman(into) a mass
فَتَرَىfatarāthen you see
ٱلْوَدْقَl-wadqathe rain
يَخْرُجُyakhrujucome forth
مِنْminfrom
خِلَـٰلِهِۦkhilālihitheir midst
وَيُنَزِّلُwayunazziluAnd He sends down
مِنَminafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāi(the) sky
مِنmin[from]
جِبَالٍۢjibālinmountains
فِيهَاfīhāwithin it
مِنۢmin[of]
بَرَدٍۢbaradin(is) hail
فَيُصِيبُfayuṣībuand He strikes
بِهِۦbihiwith it
مَنmanwhom
يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
وَيَصْرِفُهُۥwayaṣrifuhuand averts it
عَنʿanfrom
مَّنmanwhom
يَشَآءُ ۖyashāuHe wills
يَكَادُyakāduNearly
سَنَاsanā(the) flash
بَرْقِهِۦbarqihi(of) its lighting
يَذْهَبُyadhhabutakes away
بِٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِbil-abṣārithe sight

Translation

Do not you see that Allah drives clouds then joins between them then makes them (into) a mass then you see the rain come forth from their midst And He sends down from (the) sky [from] mountains within it [of] (is) hail and He strikes with it whom He wills and averts it from whom He wills Nearly (the) flash (of) its lighting takes away the sight

Verse 44

يُقَلِّبُyuqallibuAllah alternates
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah alternates
ٱلَّيْلَal-laylathe night
وَٱلنَّهَارَ ۚwal-nahāraand the day
إِنَّinnaIndeed
فِىfīin
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
لَعِبْرَةًۭlaʿib'ratansurely is a lesson
لِّأُو۟لِىli-ulīfor those who have vision
ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِl-abṣārifor those who have vision

Translation

Allah alternates Allah alternates the night and the day Indeed in that surely is a lesson for those who have vision for those who have vision

Verse 45

وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
خَلَقَkhalaqacreated
كُلَّkullaevery
دَآبَّةٍۢdābbatinmoving creature
مِّنminfrom
مَّآءٍۢ ۖmāinwater
فَمِنْهُمfamin'humOf them
مَّنman(is a kind) who
يَمْشِىyamshīwalks
عَلَىٰʿalāon
بَطْنِهِۦbaṭnihiits belly
وَمِنْهُمwamin'humand of them
مَّنman(is a kind) who
يَمْشِىyamshīwalks
عَلَىٰʿalāon
رِجْلَيْنِrij'laynitwo legs
وَمِنْهُمwamin'humand of them
مَّنman(is a kind) who
يَمْشِىyamshīwalks
عَلَىٰٓʿalāon
أَرْبَعٍۢ ۚarbaʿinfour
يَخْلُقُyakhluquAllah creates
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah creates
مَاmāwhat
يَشَآءُ ۚyashāuHe wills
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
عَلَىٰʿalāon
كُلِّkullievery
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
قَدِيرٌۭqadīrun(is) All-Powerful

Translation

And Allah created every moving creature from water Of them (is a kind) who walks on its belly and of them (is a kind) who walks on two legs and of them (is a kind) who walks on four Allah creates Allah creates what He wills Indeed Allah on every thing (is) All-Powerful

Verse 46

لَّقَدْlaqadVerily
أَنزَلْنَآanzalnāWe have sent down
ءَايَـٰتٍۢāyātinVerses
مُّبَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ ۚmubayyinātinclear
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
يَهْدِىyahdīguides
مَنmanwhom
يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
إِلَىٰilāto
صِرَٰطٍۢṣirāṭina path
مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢmus'taqīminstraight

Translation

Verily We have sent down Verses clear And Allah guides whom He wills to a path straight

Verse 47

وَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaAnd they say
ءَامَنَّاāmannāWe believe
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
وَبِٱلرَّسُولِwabil-rasūliand in the Messenger
وَأَطَعْنَاwa-aṭaʿnāand we obey
ثُمَّthummaThen
يَتَوَلَّىٰyatawallāturns away
فَرِيقٌۭfarīquna party
مِّنْهُمmin'humof them
مِّنۢminafter
بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
ذَٰلِكَ ۚdhālikathat
وَمَآwamāAnd not
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikathose
بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَbil-mu'minīna(are) believers

Translation

And they say We believe in Allah and in the Messenger and we obey Then turns away a party of them after after that And not those (are) believers

Verse 48

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
دُعُوٓا۟duʿūthey are called
إِلَىilāto
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
وَرَسُولِهِۦwarasūlihiand His Messenger
لِيَحْكُمَliyaḥkumato judge
بَيْنَهُمْbaynahumbetween them
إِذَاidhābehold
فَرِيقٌۭfarīquna party
مِّنْهُمmin'humof them
مُّعْرِضُونَmuʿ'riḍūna(is) averse

Translation

And when they are called to Allah and His Messenger to judge between them behold a party of them (is) averse

Verse 49

وَإِنwa-inBut if
يَكُنyakunis
لَّهُمُlahumuwith them
ٱلْحَقُّl-ḥaquthe truth
يَأْتُوٓا۟yatūthey come
إِلَيْهِilayhito him
مُذْعِنِينَmudh'ʿinīna(as) promptly obedient

Translation

But if is with them the truth they come to him (as) promptly obedient

Verse 50

أَفِىafīIs (there) in
قُلُوبِهِمqulūbihimtheir hearts
مَّرَضٌmaraḍuna disease
أَمِamior
ٱرْتَابُوٓا۟ir'tābūdo they doubt
أَمْamor
يَخَافُونَyakhāfūnathey fear
أَنanthat
يَحِيفَyaḥīfaAllah will be unjust
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah will be unjust
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto them
وَرَسُولُهُۥ ۚwarasūluhuand His Messenger
بَلْbalNay
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikathose
هُمُhumu[they]
ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَl-ẓālimūna(are) the wrongdoers

Translation

Is (there) in their hearts a disease or do they doubt or they fear that Allah will be unjust Allah will be unjust to them and His Messenger Nay those [they] (are) the wrongdoers

Verse 51

إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
كَانَkānais
قَوْلَqawla(the) statement
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīna(of) the believers
إِذَاidhāwhen
دُعُوٓا۟duʿūthey are called
إِلَىilāto
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
وَرَسُولِهِۦwarasūlihiand His Messenger
لِيَحْكُمَliyaḥkumato judge
بَيْنَهُمْbaynahumbetween them
أَنan(is) that
يَقُولُوا۟yaqūlūthey say
سَمِعْنَاsamiʿ'nāWe hear
وَأَطَعْنَا ۚwa-aṭaʿnāand we obey
وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَwa-ulāikaAnd those
هُمُhumu[they]
ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَl-muf'liḥūna(are) the successful

Translation

Only is (the) statement (of) the believers when they are called to Allah and His Messenger to judge between them (is) that they say We hear and we obey And those [they] (are) the successful

Verse 52

وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
يُطِعِyuṭiʿiobeys
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
وَرَسُولَهُۥwarasūlahuand His Messenger
وَيَخْشَwayakhshaand fears
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
وَيَتَّقْهِwayattaqhiand (is) conscious of Him
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikathen those
هُمُhumu[they]
ٱلْفَآئِزُونَl-fāizūna(are) the successful ones

Translation

And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger and fears Allah and (is) conscious of Him then those [they] (are) the successful ones

Verse 53

۞ وَأَقْسَمُوا۟wa-aqsamūAnd they swear
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiby Allah
جَهْدَjahdastrong
أَيْمَـٰنِهِمْaymānihimtheir oaths
لَئِنْla-inthat if
أَمَرْتَهُمْamartahumyou ordered them
لَيَخْرُجُنَّ ۖlayakhrujunnasurely they (would) go forth
قُلqulSay
لَّاlā(Do) not
تُقْسِمُوا۟ ۖtuq'simūswear
طَاعَةٌۭṭāʿatunObedience
مَّعْرُوفَةٌ ۚmaʿrūfatun(is) known
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
خَبِيرٌۢkhabīrun(is) All-Aware
بِمَاbimāof what
تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnayou do

Translation

And they swear by Allah strong their oaths that if you ordered them surely they (would) go forth Say (Do) not swear Obedience (is) known Indeed Allah (is) All-Aware of what you do

Verse 54

قُلْqulSay
أَطِيعُوا۟aṭīʿūObey
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
وَأَطِيعُوا۟wa-aṭīʿūand obey
ٱلرَّسُولَ ۖl-rasūlathe Messenger
فَإِنfa-inbut if
تَوَلَّوْا۟tawallawyou turn away
فَإِنَّمَاfa-innamāthen only
عَلَيْهِʿalayhiupon him
مَاmā(is) what
حُمِّلَḥummila(is) placed on him
وَعَلَيْكُمwaʿalaykumand on you
مَّاmā(is) what
حُمِّلْتُمْ ۖḥummil'tum(is) placed on you
وَإِنwa-inAnd if
تُطِيعُوهُtuṭīʿūhuyou obey him
تَهْتَدُوا۟ ۚtahtadūyou will be guided
وَمَاwamāAnd not
عَلَىʿalā(is) on
ٱلرَّسُولِl-rasūlithe Messenger
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱلْبَلَـٰغُl-balāghuthe conveyance
ٱلْمُبِينُl-mubīnu[the] clear

Translation

Say Obey Allah and obey the Messenger but if you turn away then only upon him (is) what (is) placed on him and on you (is) what (is) placed on you And if you obey him you will be guided And not (is) on the Messenger except the conveyance [the] clear

Verse 55

وَعَدَwaʿadaAllah (has) promised
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah (has) promised
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
مِنكُمْminkumamong you
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
لَيَسْتَخْلِفَنَّهُمْlayastakhlifannahumsurely He will grant them succession
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
كَمَاkamāas
ٱسْتَخْلَفَis'takhlafaHe gave succession
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnato those who
مِنmin(were) before them
قَبْلِهِمْqablihim(were) before them
وَلَيُمَكِّنَنَّwalayumakkinannaand that He will surely establish
لَهُمْlahumfor them
دِينَهُمُdīnahumutheir religion
ٱلَّذِىalladhīwhich
ٱرْتَضَىٰir'taḍāHe has approved
لَهُمْlahumfor them
وَلَيُبَدِّلَنَّهُمwalayubaddilannahumand surely He will change for them
مِّنۢminafter
بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
خَوْفِهِمْkhawfihimtheir fear
أَمْنًۭا ۚamnansecurity
يَعْبُدُونَنِىyaʿbudūnanī(for) they worship Me
لَاlānot
يُشْرِكُونَyush'rikūnathey associate
بِىbīwith Me
شَيْـًۭٔا ۚshayananything
وَمَنwamanBut whoever
كَفَرَkafaradisbelieved
بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikathen those
هُمُhumu[they]
ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَl-fāsiqūna(are) the defiantly disobedient

Translation

Allah (has) promised Allah (has) promised those who believe among you and do righteous deeds surely He will grant them succession in the earth as He gave succession to those who (were) before them (were) before them and that He will surely establish for them their religion which He has approved for them and surely He will change for them after after their fear security (for) they worship Me not they associate with Me anything But whoever disbelieved after that then those [they] (are) the defiantly disobedient

Verse 56

وَأَقِيمُوا۟wa-aqīmūAnd establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَl-ṣalatathe prayer
وَءَاتُوا۟waātūand give
ٱلزَّكَوٰةَl-zakatazakah
وَأَطِيعُوا۟wa-aṭīʿūand obey
ٱلرَّسُولَl-rasūlathe Messenger
لَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you may
تُرْحَمُونَtur'ḥamūnareceive mercy

Translation

And establish the prayer and give zakah and obey the Messenger so that you may receive mercy

Verse 57

لَاlā(Do) not
تَحْسَبَنَّtaḥsabannathink
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
مُعْجِزِينَmuʿ'jizīna(can) escape
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚl-arḍithe earth
وَمَأْوَىٰهُمُwamawāhumuAnd their abode
ٱلنَّارُ ۖl-nāru(will be) the Fire
وَلَبِئْسَwalabi'saand wretched is
ٱلْمَصِيرُl-maṣīruthe destination

Translation

(Do) not think those who disbelieve (can) escape in the earth And their abode (will be) the Fire and wretched is the destination

Verse 58

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you who believe
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaO you who believe
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūO you who believe
لِيَسْتَـْٔذِنكُمُliyastadhinkumuLet ask your permission
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whom
مَلَكَتْmalakatpossess
أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْaymānukumyour right hands
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those who
لَمْlam(have) not
يَبْلُغُوا۟yablughūreached
ٱلْحُلُمَl-ḥulumapuberty
مِنكُمْminkumamong you
ثَلَـٰثَthalātha(at) three
مَرَّٰتٍۢ ۚmarrātintimes
مِّنminbefore
قَبْلِqablibefore
صَلَوٰةِṣalati(the) prayer
ٱلْفَجْرِl-fajri(of) dawn
وَحِينَwaḥīnaand when
تَضَعُونَtaḍaʿūnayou put aside
ثِيَابَكُمthiyābakumyour garments
مِّنَminaat
ٱلظَّهِيرَةِl-ẓahīratinoon
وَمِنۢwaminand after
بَعْدِbaʿdiand after
صَلَوٰةِṣalati(the) prayer
ٱلْعِشَآءِ ۚl-ʿishāi(of) night
ثَلَـٰثُthalāthu(These) three
عَوْرَٰتٍۢʿawrātin(are) times of privacy
لَّكُمْ ۚlakumfor you
لَيْسَlaysaNot
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumon you
وَلَاwalāand not
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimon them
جُنَاحٌۢjunāḥunany blame
بَعْدَهُنَّ ۚbaʿdahunnaafter that
طَوَّٰفُونَṭawwāfūna(as) moving about
عَلَيْكُمʿalaykumamong you
بَعْضُكُمْbaʿḍukumsome of you
عَلَىٰʿalāamong
بَعْضٍۢ ۚbaʿḍinothers
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
يُبَيِّنُyubayyinuAllah makes clear
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah makes clear
لَكُمُlakumufor you
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ ۗl-āyātithe Verses
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuand Allah
عَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-Knower
حَكِيمٌۭḥakīmunAll-Wise

Translation

O you who believe O you who believe O you who believe Let ask your permission those whom possess your right hands and those who (have) not reached puberty among you (at) three times before before (the) prayer (of) dawn and when you put aside your garments at noon and after and after (the) prayer (of) night (These) three (are) times of privacy for you Not on you and not on them any blame after that (as) moving about among you some of you among others Thus Allah makes clear Allah makes clear for you the Verses and Allah (is) All-Knower All-Wise

Verse 59

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
بَلَغَbalaghareach
ٱلْأَطْفَـٰلُl-aṭfāluthe children
مِنكُمُminkumuamong you
ٱلْحُلُمَl-ḥulumathe puberty
فَلْيَسْتَـْٔذِنُوا۟falyastadhinūthen let them ask permission
كَمَاkamāas
ٱسْتَـْٔذَنَis'tadhanaasked permission
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
مِنmin(were) before them
قَبْلِهِمْ ۚqablihim(were) before them
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
يُبَيِّنُyubayyinuAllah makes clear
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah makes clear
لَكُمْlakumfor you
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ ۗāyātihiHis Verses
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
عَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-Knower
حَكِيمٌۭḥakīmunAll-Wise

Translation

And when reach the children among you the puberty then let them ask permission as asked permission those who (were) before them (were) before them Thus Allah makes clear Allah makes clear for you His Verses And Allah (is) All-Knower All-Wise

Verse 60

وَٱلْقَوَٰعِدُwal-qawāʿiduAnd postmenopausal
مِنَminaamong
ٱلنِّسَآءِl-nisāithe women
ٱلَّـٰتِىallātīwho
لَاlā(do) not
يَرْجُونَyarjūnahave desire
نِكَاحًۭاnikāḥan(for) marriage
فَلَيْسَfalaysathen not is
عَلَيْهِنَّʿalayhinnaon them
جُنَاحٌjunāḥunany blame
أَنanthat
يَضَعْنَyaḍaʿnathey put aside
ثِيَابَهُنَّthiyābahunnatheir (outer) garments
غَيْرَghayranot
مُتَبَرِّجَـٰتٍۭmutabarrijātindisplaying
بِزِينَةٍۢ ۖbizīnatintheir adornment
وَأَنwa-anAnd that
يَسْتَعْفِفْنَyastaʿfif'nathey modestly refrain
خَيْرٌۭkhayrun(is) better
لَّهُنَّ ۗlahunnafor them
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
سَمِيعٌsamīʿun(is) All-Hearer
عَلِيمٌۭʿalīmunAll-Knower

Translation

And postmenopausal among the women who (do) not have desire (for) marriage then not is on them any blame that they put aside their (outer) garments not displaying their adornment And that they modestly refrain (is) better for them And Allah (is) All-Hearer All-Knower

Verse 61

لَّيْسَlaysaNot is
عَلَىʿalāon
ٱلْأَعْمَىٰl-aʿmāthe blind
حَرَجٌۭḥarajunany blame
وَلَاwalāand not
عَلَىʿalāon
ٱلْأَعْرَجِl-aʿrajithe lame
حَرَجٌۭḥarajunany blame
وَلَاwalāand not
عَلَىʿalāon
ٱلْمَرِيضِl-marīḍithe sick
حَرَجٌۭḥarajunany blame
وَلَاwalāand not
عَلَىٰٓʿalāon
أَنفُسِكُمْanfusikumyourselves
أَنanthat
تَأْكُلُوا۟takulūyou eat
مِنۢminfrom
بُيُوتِكُمْbuyūtikumyour houses
أَوْawor
بُيُوتِbuyūtihouses
ءَابَآئِكُمْābāikum(of) your fathers
أَوْawor
بُيُوتِbuyūtihouses
أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْummahātikum(of) your mothers
أَوْawor
بُيُوتِbuyūtihouses
إِخْوَٰنِكُمْikh'wānikum(of) your brothers
أَوْawor
بُيُوتِbuyūtihouses
أَخَوَٰتِكُمْakhawātikum(of) your sisters
أَوْawor
بُيُوتِbuyūtihouses
أَعْمَـٰمِكُمْaʿmāmikum(of) your paternal uncles
أَوْawor
بُيُوتِbuyūtihouses
عَمَّـٰتِكُمْʿammātikum(of) your paternal aunts
أَوْawor
بُيُوتِbuyūtihouses
أَخْوَٰلِكُمْakhwālikum(of) your maternal uncles
أَوْawor
بُيُوتِbuyūtihouses
خَـٰلَـٰتِكُمْkhālātikum(of) your maternal aunts
أَوْawor
مَاmāwhat
مَلَكْتُمmalaktumyou possess
مَّفَاتِحَهُۥٓmafātiḥahuits keys
أَوْawor
صَدِيقِكُمْ ۚṣadīqikumyour friend
لَيْسَlaysaNot is
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumon you
جُنَاحٌjunāḥunany blame
أَنanthat
تَأْكُلُوا۟takulūyou eat
جَمِيعًاjamīʿantogether
أَوْawor
أَشْتَاتًۭا ۚashtātanseparately
فَإِذَاfa-idhāBut when
دَخَلْتُمdakhaltumyou enter
بُيُوتًۭاbuyūtanhouses
فَسَلِّمُوا۟fasallimūthen greet
عَلَىٰٓʿalā[on]
أَنفُسِكُمْanfusikumyourselves
تَحِيَّةًۭtaḥiyyatana greeting
مِّنْminfrom
عِندِʿindifrom
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
مُبَـٰرَكَةًۭmubārakatanblessed
طَيِّبَةًۭ ۚṭayyibatan(and) good
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
يُبَيِّنُyubayyinuAllah makes clear
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah makes clear
لَكُمُlakumufor you
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِl-āyātithe Verses
لَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you may
تَعْقِلُونَtaʿqilūnaunderstand

Translation

Not is on the blind any blame and not on the lame any blame and not on the sick any blame and not on yourselves that you eat from your houses or houses (of) your fathers or houses (of) your mothers or houses (of) your brothers or houses (of) your sisters or houses (of) your paternal uncles or houses (of) your paternal aunts or houses (of) your maternal uncles or houses (of) your maternal aunts or what you possess its keys or your friend Not is on you any blame that you eat together or separately But when you enter houses then greet [on] yourselves a greeting from from Allah blessed (and) good Thus Allah makes clear Allah makes clear for you the Verses so that you may understand

Verse 62

إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَl-mu'minūnathe believers
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(are) those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
وَرَسُولِهِۦwarasūlihiand His Messenger
وَإِذَاwa-idhāand when
كَانُوا۟kānūthey are
مَعَهُۥmaʿahuwith him
عَلَىٰٓʿalāfor
أَمْرٍۢamrina matter
جَامِعٍۢjāmiʿin(of) collective action
لَّمْlamnot
يَذْهَبُوا۟yadhhabūthey go
حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
يَسْتَـْٔذِنُوهُ ۚyastadhinūhuthey (have) asked his permission
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
يَسْتَـْٔذِنُونَكَyastadhinūnakaask your permission
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikathose
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna[those who]
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnabelieve
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
وَرَسُولِهِۦ ۚwarasūlihiand His Messenger
فَإِذَاfa-idhāSo when
ٱسْتَـْٔذَنُوكَis'tadhanūkathey ask your permission
لِبَعْضِlibaʿḍifor some
شَأْنِهِمْshanihimaffair of theirs
فَأْذَنfadhanthen give permission
لِّمَنlimanto whom
شِئْتَshi'tayou will
مِنْهُمْmin'humamong them
وَٱسْتَغْفِرْwa-is'taghfirand ask forgiveness
لَهُمُlahumufor them
ٱللَّهَ ۚl-laha(of) Allah
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
غَفُورٌۭghafūrun(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭraḥīmunMost Merciful

Translation

Only the believers (are) those who believe in Allah and His Messenger and when they are with him for a matter (of) collective action not they go until they (have) asked his permission Indeed those who ask your permission those [those who] believe in Allah and His Messenger So when they ask your permission for some affair of theirs then give permission to whom you will among them and ask forgiveness for them (of) Allah Indeed Allah (is) Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful

Verse 63

لَّاlā(Do) not
تَجْعَلُوا۟tajʿalūmake
دُعَآءَduʿāa(the) calling
ٱلرَّسُولِl-rasūli(of) the Messenger
بَيْنَكُمْbaynakumamong you
كَدُعَآءِkaduʿāias (the) call
بَعْضِكُمbaʿḍikum(of) some of you
بَعْضًۭا ۚbaʿḍan(to) others
قَدْqadVerily
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuAllah knows
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah knows
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
يَتَسَلَّلُونَyatasallalūnaslip away
مِنكُمْminkumamong you
لِوَاذًۭا ۚliwādhanunder shelter
فَلْيَحْذَرِfalyaḥdhariSo let beware
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
يُخَالِفُونَyukhālifūnaoppose
عَنْʿan[from]
أَمْرِهِۦٓamrihihis orders
أَنanlest
تُصِيبَهُمْtuṣībahumbefalls them
فِتْنَةٌfit'natuna trial
أَوْawor
يُصِيبَهُمْyuṣībahumbefalls them
عَذَابٌʿadhābuna punishment
أَلِيمٌalīmunpainful

Translation

(Do) not make (the) calling (of) the Messenger among you as (the) call (of) some of you (to) others Verily Allah knows Allah knows those who slip away among you under shelter So let beware those who oppose [from] his orders lest befalls them a trial or befalls them a punishment painful

Verse 64

أَلَآalāNo doubt
إِنَّinnaIndeed
لِلَّهِlillahito Allah (belongs)
مَاmāwhatever
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖwal-arḍiand the earth
قَدْqadVerily
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuHe knows
مَآmāwhat
أَنتُمْantumyou
عَلَيْهِʿalayhi(are) on [it]
وَيَوْمَwayawmaAnd (the) Day
يُرْجَعُونَyur'jaʿūnathey will be returned
إِلَيْهِilayhito Him
فَيُنَبِّئُهُمfayunabbi-uhumthen He will inform them
بِمَاbimāof what
عَمِلُوا۟ ۗʿamilūthey did
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
بِكُلِّbikulliof every
شَىْءٍshayinthing
عَلِيمٌۢʿalīmun(is) All-Knower

Translation

No doubt Indeed to Allah (belongs) whatever (is) in the heavens and the earth Verily He knows what you (are) on [it] And (the) Day they will be returned to Him then He will inform them of what they did And Allah of every thing (is) All-Knower
