Chapter 29Meccan69 Verses

Verse 1

الٓمٓalif-lam-meemAlif Laam Meem

Translation

Alif Laam Meem

Verse 2

أَحَسِبَaḥasibaDo think
ٱلنَّاسُl-nāsuthe people
أَنanthat
يُتْرَكُوٓا۟yut'rakūthey will be left
أَنanbecause
يَقُولُوٓا۟yaqūlūthey say
ءَامَنَّاāmannāWe believe
وَهُمْwahumand they
لَاlāwill not be tested
يُفْتَنُونَyuf'tanūnawill not be tested

Translation

Do think the people that they will be left because they say We believe and they will not be tested will not be tested

Verse 3

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd indeed
فَتَنَّاfatannāWe tested
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
مِنmin(were) before them
قَبْلِهِمْ ۖqablihim(were) before them
فَلَيَعْلَمَنَّfalayaʿlamannaAnd Allah will surely make evident
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAnd Allah will surely make evident
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
صَدَقُوا۟ṣadaqū(are) truthful
وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّwalayaʿlamannaand He will surely make evident
ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَl-kādhibīnathe liars

Translation

And indeed We tested those who (were) before them (were) before them And Allah will surely make evident And Allah will surely make evident those who (are) truthful and He will surely make evident the liars

Verse 4

أَمْamOr
حَسِبَḥasibathink
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnado
ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِl-sayiātievil deeds
أَنanthat
يَسْبِقُونَا ۚyasbiqūnāthey can outrun Us
سَآءَsāaEvil is
مَاmāwhat
يَحْكُمُونَyaḥkumūnathey judge

Translation

Or think those who do evil deeds that they can outrun Us Evil is what they judge

Verse 5

مَنmanWhoever
كَانَkāna[is]
يَرْجُوا۟yarjūhopes
لِقَآءَliqāa(for the) meeting
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(with) Allah
فَإِنَّfa-innathen indeed
أَجَلَajala(the) Term
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
لَـَٔاتٍۢ ۚlaātin(is) surely coming
وَهُوَwahuwaAnd He
ٱلسَّمِيعُl-samīʿu(is) the All-Hearer
ٱلْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmuthe All-Knower

Translation

Whoever [is] hopes (for the) meeting (with) Allah then indeed (the) Term (of) Allah (is) surely coming And He (is) the All-Hearer the All-Knower

Verse 6

وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
جَـٰهَدَjāhadastrives
فَإِنَّمَاfa-innamāthen only
يُجَـٰهِدُyujāhiduhe strives
لِنَفْسِهِۦٓ ۚlinafsihifor himself
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لَغَنِىٌّlaghaniyyun(is) Free from need
عَنِʿaniof
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds

Translation

And whoever strives then only he strives for himself Indeed Allah (is) Free from need of the worlds

Verse 7

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous (deeds)
لَنُكَفِّرَنَّlanukaffirannasurely, We will remove
عَنْهُمْʿanhumfrom them
سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْsayyiātihimtheir evil deeds
وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْwalanajziyannahumand We will surely reward them
أَحْسَنَaḥsana(the) best
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(of) what
كَانُوا۟kānūthey used
يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūna(to) do

Translation

And those who believe and do righteous (deeds) surely, We will remove from them their evil deeds and We will surely reward them (the) best (of) what they used (to) do

Verse 8

وَوَصَّيْنَاwawaṣṣaynāAnd We have enjoined
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَl-insāna(on) man
بِوَٰلِدَيْهِbiwālidayhigoodness to his parents
حُسْنًۭا ۖḥus'nangoodness to his parents
وَإِنwa-inbut if
جَـٰهَدَاكَjāhadākathey both strive against you
لِتُشْرِكَlitush'rikato make you associate
بِىbīwith Me
مَاmāwhat
لَيْسَlaysanot
لَكَlakayou have
بِهِۦbihiof it
عِلْمٌۭʿil'munany knowledge
فَلَاfalāthen (do) not
تُطِعْهُمَآ ۚtuṭiʿ'humāobey both of them
إِلَىَّilayyaTo Me
مَرْجِعُكُمْmarjiʿukum(is) your return
فَأُنَبِّئُكُمfa-unabbi-ukumand I will inform you
بِمَاbimāabout what
كُنتُمْkuntumyou used
تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūna(to) do

Translation

And We have enjoined (on) man goodness to his parents goodness to his parents but if they both strive against you to make you associate with Me what not you have of it any knowledge then (do) not obey both of them To Me (is) your return and I will inform you about what you used (to) do

Verse 9

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
لَنُدْخِلَنَّهُمْlanud'khilannahumWe will surely admit them
فِىfīamong
ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَl-ṣāliḥīnathe righteous

Translation

And those who believe and do righteous deeds We will surely admit them among the righteous

Verse 10

وَمِنَwaminaAnd of
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsithe people
مَنman(is he) who
يَقُولُyaqūlusays
ءَامَنَّاāmannāWe believe
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
فَإِذَآfa-idhāBut when
أُوذِىَūdhiyahe is harmed
فِىfīin
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(the Way of) Allah
جَعَلَjaʿalahe considers
فِتْنَةَfit'nata(the) trial
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi(of) the people
كَعَذَابِkaʿadhābias (the) punishment
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
وَلَئِنwala-inBut if
جَآءَjāacomes
نَصْرٌۭnaṣrunvictory
مِّنminfrom
رَّبِّكَrabbikayour Lord
لَيَقُولُنَّlayaqūlunnasurely they say
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, we
كُنَّاkunnāwere
مَعَكُمْ ۚmaʿakumwith you
أَوَلَيْسَawalaysaIs not
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
بِأَعْلَمَbi-aʿlamamost knowing
بِمَاbimāof what
فِىfī(is) in
صُدُورِṣudūri(the) breasts
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds

Translation

And of the people (is he) who says We believe in Allah But when he is harmed in (the Way of) Allah he considers (the) trial (of) the people as (the) punishment (of) Allah But if comes victory from your Lord surely they say Indeed, we were with you Is not Allah most knowing of what (is) in (the) breasts (of) the worlds

Verse 11

وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّwalayaʿlamannaAnd Allah will surely make evident
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAnd Allah will surely make evident
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّwalayaʿlamannaAnd He will surely make evident
ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَl-munāfiqīnathe hypocrites

Translation

And Allah will surely make evident And Allah will surely make evident those who believe And He will surely make evident the hypocrites

Verse 12

وَقَالَwaqālaAnd said
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ittabiʿūFollow
سَبِيلَنَاsabīlanāour way
وَلْنَحْمِلْwalnaḥmiland we will carry
خَطَـٰيَـٰكُمْkhaṭāyākumyour sins
وَمَاwamāBut not
هُمhumthey
بِحَـٰمِلِينَbiḥāmilīna(are) going to carry
مِنْminof
خَطَـٰيَـٰهُمkhaṭāyāhumtheir sins
مِّنminany
شَىْءٍ ۖshayinthing
إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, they
لَكَـٰذِبُونَlakādhibūna(are) surely liars

Translation

And said those who disbelieve to those who believe Follow our way and we will carry your sins But not they (are) going to carry of their sins any thing Indeed, they (are) surely liars

Verse 13

وَلَيَحْمِلُنَّwalayaḥmilunnaBut surely they will carry
أَثْقَالَهُمْathqālahumtheir burdens
وَأَثْقَالًۭاwa-athqālanand burdens
مَّعَmaʿawith
أَثْقَالِهِمْ ۖathqālihimtheir burdens
وَلَيُسْـَٔلُنَّwalayus'alunnaand surely they will be questioned
يَوْمَyawma(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
عَمَّاʿammāabout what
كَانُوا۟kānūthey used
يَفْتَرُونَyaftarūna(to) invent

Translation

But surely they will carry their burdens and burdens with their burdens and surely they will be questioned (on the) Day (of) the Resurrection about what they used (to) invent

Verse 14

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd verily
أَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sent
نُوحًاnūḥanNuh
إِلَىٰilāto
قَوْمِهِۦqawmihihis people
فَلَبِثَfalabithaand he remained
فِيهِمْfīhimamong them
أَلْفَalfaa thousand
سَنَةٍsanatinyear(s)
إِلَّاillāsave
خَمْسِينَkhamsīnafifty
عَامًۭاʿāmanyear(s)
فَأَخَذَهُمُfa-akhadhahumuthen seized them
ٱلطُّوفَانُl-ṭūfānuthe flood
وَهُمْwahumwhile they
ظَـٰلِمُونَẓālimūna(were) wrongdoers

Translation

And verily We sent Nuh to his people and he remained among them a thousand year(s) save fifty year(s) then seized them the flood while they (were) wrongdoers

Verse 15

فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُfa-anjaynāhuBut We saved him
وَأَصْحَـٰبَwa-aṣḥābaand (the) people
ٱلسَّفِينَةِl-safīnati(of) the ship
وَجَعَلْنَـٰهَآwajaʿalnāhāand We made it
ءَايَةًۭāyatana Sign
لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَlil'ʿālamīnafor the worlds

Translation

But We saved him and (the) people (of) the ship and We made it a Sign for the worlds

Verse 16

وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَwa-ib'rāhīmaAnd Ibrahim
إِذْidhwhen
قَالَqālahe said
لِقَوْمِهِliqawmihito his people
ٱعْبُدُوا۟uʿ'budūWorship
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
وَٱتَّقُوهُ ۖwa-ittaqūhuand fear Him
ذَٰلِكُمْdhālikumThat
خَيْرٌۭkhayrun(is) better
لَّكُمْlakumfor you
إِنinif
كُنتُمْkuntumyou
تَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūnaknow

Translation

And Ibrahim when he said to his people Worship Allah and fear Him That (is) better for you if you know

Verse 17

إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
تَعْبُدُونَtaʿbudūnayou worship
مِنminbesides
دُونِdūnibesides
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
أَوْثَـٰنًۭاawthānanidols
وَتَخْلُقُونَwatakhluqūnaand you create
إِفْكًا ۚif'kanfalsehood
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whom
تَعْبُدُونَtaʿbudūnayou worship
مِنminbesides
دُونِdūnibesides
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
لَاlā(do) not
يَمْلِكُونَyamlikūnapossess
لَكُمْlakumfor you
رِزْقًۭاriz'qanany provision
فَٱبْتَغُوا۟fa-ib'taghūSo seek
عِندَʿindafrom
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
ٱلرِّزْقَl-riz'qathe provision
وَٱعْبُدُوهُwa-uʿ'budūhuand worship Him
وَٱشْكُرُوا۟wa-ush'kurūand be grateful
لَهُۥٓ ۖlahuto Him
إِلَيْهِilayhiTo Him
تُرْجَعُونَtur'jaʿūnayou will be returned

Translation

Only you worship besides besides Allah idols and you create falsehood Indeed those whom you worship besides besides Allah (do) not possess for you any provision So seek from Allah the provision and worship Him and be grateful to Him To Him you will be returned

Verse 18

وَإِنwa-inAnd if
تُكَذِّبُوا۟tukadhibūyou deny
فَقَدْfaqadthen verily
كَذَّبَkadhabadenied
أُمَمٌۭumamun(the) nations
مِّنminbefore you
قَبْلِكُمْ ۖqablikumbefore you
وَمَاwamāAnd not
عَلَىʿalā(is) on
ٱلرَّسُولِl-rasūlithe Messenger
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱلْبَلَـٰغُl-balāghuthe conveyance
ٱلْمُبِينُl-mubīnuclear

Translation

And if you deny then verily denied (the) nations before you before you And not (is) on the Messenger except the conveyance clear

Verse 19

أَوَلَمْawalamDo not
يَرَوْا۟yarawthey see
كَيْفَkayfahow
يُبْدِئُyub'di-uAllah originates
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah originates
ٱلْخَلْقَl-khalqathe creation
ثُمَّthummathen
يُعِيدُهُۥٓ ۚyuʿīduhurepeats it
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
عَلَىʿalāfor
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
يَسِيرٌۭyasīrun(is) easy

Translation

Do not they see how Allah originates Allah originates the creation then repeats it Indeed that for Allah (is) easy

Verse 20

قُلْqulSay
سِيرُوا۟sīrūTravel
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
فَٱنظُرُوا۟fa-unẓurūand see
كَيْفَkayfahow
بَدَأَbada-aHe originated
ٱلْخَلْقَ ۚl-khalqathe creation
ثُمَّthummaThen
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
يُنشِئُyunshi-uwill produce
ٱلنَّشْأَةَl-nashatathe creation
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۚl-ākhiratathe last
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
عَلَىٰʿalāon
كُلِّkullievery
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
قَدِيرٌۭqadīrun(is) All-Powerful

Translation

Say Travel in the earth and see how He originated the creation Then Allah will produce the creation the last Indeed Allah on every thing (is) All-Powerful

Verse 21

يُعَذِّبُyuʿadhibuHe punishes
مَنmanwhom
يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
وَيَرْحَمُwayarḥamuand has mercy
مَنman(on) whom
يَشَآءُ ۖyashāuHe wills
وَإِلَيْهِwa-ilayhiand to Him
تُقْلَبُونَtuq'labūnayou will be returned

Translation

He punishes whom He wills and has mercy (on) whom He wills and to Him you will be returned

Verse 22

وَمَآwamāAnd not
أَنتُمantumyou
بِمُعْجِزِينَbimuʿ'jizīnacan escape
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
وَلَاwalāand not
فِىfīin
ٱلسَّمَآءِ ۖl-samāithe heaven
وَمَاwamāAnd not
لَكُمlakumfor you
مِّنminbesides
دُونِdūnibesides
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
مِنminany
وَلِىٍّۢwaliyyinprotector
وَلَاwalāand not
نَصِيرٍۢnaṣīrina helper

Translation

And not you can escape in the earth and not in the heaven And not for you besides besides Allah any protector and not a helper

Verse 23

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
بِـَٔايَـٰتِbiāyātiin (the) Signs
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
وَلِقَآئِهِۦٓwaliqāihiand (the) meeting (with) Him
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikathose
يَئِسُوا۟ya-isū(have) despaired
مِنminof
رَّحْمَتِىraḥmatīMy Mercy
وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَwa-ulāikaAnd those
لَهُمْlahumfor them
عَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishment
أَلِيمٌۭalīmunpainful

Translation

And those who disbelieve in (the) Signs (of) Allah and (the) meeting (with) Him those (have) despaired of My Mercy And those for them (is) a punishment painful

Verse 24

فَمَاfamāAnd not
كَانَkānawas
جَوَابَjawāba(the) answer
قَوْمِهِۦٓqawmihi(of) his people
إِلَّآillāexcept
أَنanthat
قَالُوا۟qālūthey said
ٱقْتُلُوهُuq'tulūhuKill him
أَوْawor
حَرِّقُوهُḥarriqūhuburn him
فَأَنجَىٰهُfa-anjāhuBut Allah saved him
ٱللَّهُl-lahuBut Allah saved him
مِنَminafrom
ٱلنَّارِ ۚl-nārithe fire
إِنَّinnaIndeed
فِىfīin
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢlaāyātinsurely (are) Signs
لِّقَوْمٍۢliqawminfor a people
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnawho believe

Translation

And not was (the) answer (of) his people except that they said Kill him or burn him But Allah saved him But Allah saved him from the fire Indeed in that surely (are) Signs for a people who believe

Verse 25

وَقَالَwaqālaAnd he said
إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
ٱتَّخَذْتُمittakhadhtumyou have taken
مِّنminbesides
دُونِdūnibesides
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
أَوْثَـٰنًۭاawthānanidols
مَّوَدَّةَmawaddata(out of) love
بَيْنِكُمْbaynikumamong you
فِىfīin
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِl-ḥayatithe life
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖl-dun'yā(of) the world
ثُمَّthummaThen
يَوْمَyawma(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
يَكْفُرُyakfuruyou will deny
بَعْضُكُمbaʿḍukumone another
بِبَعْضٍۢbibaʿḍinone another
وَيَلْعَنُwayalʿanuand curse
بَعْضُكُمbaʿḍukumone another
بَعْضًۭاbaʿḍanone another
وَمَأْوَىٰكُمُwamawākumuand your abode
ٱلنَّارُl-nāru(will be) the Fire
وَمَاwamāand not
لَكُمlakumfor you
مِّنminany
نَّـٰصِرِينَnāṣirīnahelpers

Translation

And he said Only you have taken besides besides Allah idols (out of) love among you in the life (of) the world Then (on the) Day (of) the Resurrection you will deny one another one another and curse one another one another and your abode (will be) the Fire and not for you any helpers

Verse 26

۞ فَـَٔامَنَfaāmanaAnd believed
لَهُۥlahu[in] him
لُوطٌۭ ۘlūṭunLut
وَقَالَwaqālaand he said
إِنِّىinnīIndeed I (am)
مُهَاجِرٌmuhājirunemigrating
إِلَىٰilāto
رَبِّىٓ ۖrabbīmy Lord
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, He
هُوَhuwa[He] (is)
ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe All-Mighty
ٱلْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuthe All-Wise

Translation

And believed [in] him Lut and he said Indeed I (am) emigrating to my Lord Indeed, He [He] (is) the All-Mighty the All-Wise

Verse 27

وَوَهَبْنَاwawahabnāAnd We granted
لَهُۥٓlahuto him
إِسْحَـٰقَis'ḥāqaIsaac
وَيَعْقُوبَwayaʿqūbaand Yaqub
وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāand We placed
فِىfīin
ذُرِّيَّتِهِdhurriyyatihihis offsprings
ٱلنُّبُوَّةَl-nubuwatathe Prophethood
وَٱلْكِتَـٰبَwal-kitābaand the Book
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُwaātaynāhuAnd We gave him
أَجْرَهُۥajrahuhis reward
فِىfīin
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖl-dun'yāthe world
وَإِنَّهُۥwa-innahuAnd indeed, he
فِىfīin
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhiratithe Hereafter
لَمِنَlamina(is) surely, among
ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَl-ṣāliḥīnathe righteous

Translation

And We granted to him Isaac and Yaqub and We placed in his offsprings the Prophethood and the Book And We gave him his reward in the world And indeed, he in the Hereafter (is) surely, among the righteous

Verse 28

وَلُوطًاwalūṭanAnd Lut
إِذْidhwhen
قَالَqālahe said
لِقَوْمِهِۦٓliqawmihito his people
إِنَّكُمْinnakumIndeed, you
لَتَأْتُونَlatatūnacommit
ٱلْفَـٰحِشَةَl-fāḥishatathe immorality
مَاmānot
سَبَقَكُمsabaqakumhas preceded you
بِهَاbihāwith it
مِنْminany
أَحَدٍۢaḥadinone
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds

Translation

And Lut when he said to his people Indeed, you commit the immorality not has preceded you with it any one from the worlds

Verse 29

أَئِنَّكُمْa-innakumIndeed, you
لَتَأْتُونَlatatūnaapproach
ٱلرِّجَالَl-rijālathe men
وَتَقْطَعُونَwataqṭaʿūnaand you cut off
ٱلسَّبِيلَl-sabīlathe road
وَتَأْتُونَwatatūnaand commit
فِىfīin
نَادِيكُمُnādīkumuyour meetings
ٱلْمُنكَرَ ۖl-munkaraevil
فَمَاfamāAnd not
كَانَkānawas
جَوَابَjawāba(the) answer
قَوْمِهِۦٓqawmihi(of) his people
إِلَّآillāexcept
أَنanthat
قَالُوا۟qālūthey said
ٱئْتِنَاi'tināBring upon us
بِعَذَابِbiʿadhābi(the) punishment
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
إِنinif
كُنتَkuntayou are
مِنَminaof
ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَl-ṣādiqīnathe truthful

Translation

Indeed, you approach the men and you cut off the road and commit in your meetings evil And not was (the) answer (of) his people except that they said Bring upon us (the) punishment (of) Allah if you are of the truthful

Verse 30

قَالَqālaHe said
رَبِّrabbiMy Lord
ٱنصُرْنِىunṣur'nīHelp me
عَلَىʿalāagainst
ٱلْقَوْمِl-qawmithe people
ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَl-muf'sidīnathe corrupters

Translation

He said My Lord Help me against the people the corrupters

Verse 31

وَلَمَّاwalammāAnd when
جَآءَتْjāatcame
رُسُلُنَآrusulunāOur messengers
إِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīma(to) Ibrahim
بِٱلْبُشْرَىٰbil-bush'rāwith the glad tidings
قَالُوٓا۟qālūthey said
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, we
مُهْلِكُوٓا۟muh'likū(are) going to destroy
أَهْلِahli(the) people
هَـٰذِهِhādhihi(of) this
ٱلْقَرْيَةِ ۖl-qaryatitown
إِنَّinnaIndeed
أَهْلَهَاahlahāits people
كَانُوا۟kānūare
ظَـٰلِمِينَẓālimīnawrongdoers

Translation

And when came Our messengers (to) Ibrahim with the glad tidings they said Indeed, we (are) going to destroy (the) people (of) this town Indeed its people are wrongdoers

Verse 32

قَالَqālaHe said
إِنَّinnaIndeed
فِيهَاfīhāin it
لُوطًۭا ۚlūṭan(is) Lut
قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
نَحْنُnaḥnuWe
أَعْلَمُaʿlamuknow better
بِمَنbimanwho
فِيهَا ۖfīhā(is) in it
لَنُنَجِّيَنَّهُۥlanunajjiyannahuWe will surely save him
وَأَهْلَهُۥٓwa-ahlahuand his family
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥim'ra-atahuhis wife
كَانَتْkānatShe
مِنَmina(is) of
ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَl-ghābirīnathose who remain behind

Translation

He said Indeed in it (is) Lut They said We know better who (is) in it We will surely save him and his family except his wife She (is) of those who remain behind

Verse 33

وَلَمَّآwalammāAnd when
أَنan[that]
جَآءَتْjāatcame
رُسُلُنَاrusulunāOur messengers
لُوطًۭاlūṭan(to) Lut
سِىٓءَsīahe was distressed
بِهِمْbihimfor them
وَضَاقَwaḍāqaand felt straitened
بِهِمْbihimfor them
ذَرْعًۭاdharʿan(and) uneasy
وَقَالُوا۟waqālūAnd they said
لَاlā(Do) not
تَخَفْtakhaffear
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تَحْزَنْ ۖtaḥzangrieve
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, we
مُنَجُّوكَmunajjūka(will) save you
وَأَهْلَكَwa-ahlakaand your family
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱمْرَأَتَكَim'ra-atakayour wife
كَانَتْkānatShe
مِنَmina(is) of
ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَl-ghābirīnathose who remain behind

Translation

And when [that] came Our messengers (to) Lut he was distressed for them and felt straitened for them (and) uneasy And they said (Do) not fear and (do) not grieve Indeed, we (will) save you and your family except your wife She (is) of those who remain behind

Verse 34

إِنَّاinnāIndeed, we
مُنزِلُونَmunzilūna(will) bring down
عَلَىٰٓʿalāon
أَهْلِahli(the) people
هَـٰذِهِhādhihi(of) this
ٱلْقَرْيَةِl-qaryatitown
رِجْزًۭاrij'zana punishment
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāi(the) sky
بِمَاbimābecause
كَانُوا۟kānūthey have been
يَفْسُقُونَyafsuqūnadefiantly disobedient

Translation

Indeed, we (will) bring down on (the) people (of) this town a punishment from (the) sky because they have been defiantly disobedient

Verse 35

وَلَقَدwalaqadAnd verily
تَّرَكْنَاtaraknāWe have left
مِنْهَآmin'hāabout it
ءَايَةًۢāyatana sign
بَيِّنَةًۭbayyinatan(as) evidence
لِّقَوْمٍۢliqawminfor a people
يَعْقِلُونَyaʿqilūnawho use reason

Translation

And verily We have left about it a sign (as) evidence for a people who use reason

Verse 36

وَإِلَىٰwa-ilāAnd to
مَدْيَنَmadyanaMadyan
أَخَاهُمْakhāhumtheir brother
شُعَيْبًۭاshuʿaybanShuaib
فَقَالَfaqālaAnd he said
يَـٰقَوْمِyāqawmiO my people
ٱعْبُدُوا۟uʿ'budūWorship
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
وَٱرْجُوا۟wa-ir'jūand expect
ٱلْيَوْمَl-yawmathe Day
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَl-ākhirathe Last
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تَعْثَوْا۟taʿthawcommit evil
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
مُفْسِدِينَmuf'sidīna(as) corrupters

Translation

And to Madyan their brother Shuaib And he said O my people Worship Allah and expect the Day the Last and (do) not commit evil in the earth (as) corrupters

Verse 37

فَكَذَّبُوهُfakadhabūhuBut they denied him
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُfa-akhadhathumuso seized them
ٱلرَّجْفَةُl-rajfatuthe earthquake
فَأَصْبَحُوا۟fa-aṣbaḥūand they became
فِىfīin
دَارِهِمْdārihimtheir home
جَـٰثِمِينَjāthimīnafallen prone

Translation

But they denied him so seized them the earthquake and they became in their home fallen prone

Verse 38

وَعَادًۭاwaʿādanAnd Aad
وَثَمُودَا۟wathamūdāand Thamud
وَقَدwaqadand verily
تَّبَيَّنَtabayyana(has) become clear
لَكُمlakumto you
مِّنminfrom
مَّسَـٰكِنِهِمْ ۖmasākinihimtheir dwellings
وَزَيَّنَwazayyanaAnd made fair-seeming
لَهُمُlahumuto them
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُl-shayṭānuthe Shaitaan
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds
فَصَدَّهُمْfaṣaddahumand averted them
عَنِʿanifrom
ٱلسَّبِيلِl-sabīlithe Way
وَكَانُوا۟wakānūthough they were
مُسْتَبْصِرِينَmus'tabṣirīnaendowed with insight

Translation

And Aad and Thamud and verily (has) become clear to you from their dwellings And made fair-seeming to them the Shaitaan their deeds and averted them from the Way though they were endowed with insight

Verse 39

وَقَـٰرُونَwaqārūnaAnd Qarun
وَفِرْعَوْنَwafir'ʿawnaand Firaun
وَهَـٰمَـٰنَ ۖwahāmānaand Haman
وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainly
جَآءَهُمjāahumcame to them
مُّوسَىٰmūsāMusa
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِbil-bayinātiwith clear evidences
فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟fa-is'takbarūbut they were arrogant
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
وَمَاwamāand not
كَانُوا۟kānūthey could
سَـٰبِقِينَsābiqīnaoutstrip Us

Translation

And Qarun and Firaun and Haman And certainly came to them Musa with clear evidences but they were arrogant in the earth and not they could outstrip Us

Verse 40

فَكُلًّاfakullanSo each
أَخَذْنَاakhadhnāWe seized
بِذَنۢبِهِۦ ۖbidhanbihifor his sin
فَمِنْهُمfamin'humThen of them
مَّنْman(was he) who
أَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sent
عَلَيْهِʿalayhion him
حَاصِبًۭاḥāṣibana violent storm
وَمِنْهُمwamin'humand of them
مَّنْman(was he) who
أَخَذَتْهُakhadhathuseized him
ٱلصَّيْحَةُl-ṣayḥatuthe awful cry
وَمِنْهُمwamin'humand of them
مَّنْman(was he) who
خَسَفْنَاkhasafnāWe caused to swallow
بِهِbihihim
ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earth
وَمِنْهُمwamin'humand of them
مَّنْman(was he) who
أَغْرَقْنَا ۚaghraqnāWe drowned
وَمَاwamāAnd not
كَانَkānawas
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
لِيَظْلِمَهُمْliyaẓlimahumto wrong them
وَلَـٰكِنwalākinbut
كَانُوٓا۟kānūthey were
أَنفُسَهُمْanfusahumthemselves
يَظْلِمُونَyaẓlimūnadoing wrong

Translation

So each We seized for his sin Then of them (was he) who We sent on him a violent storm and of them (was he) who seized him the awful cry and of them (was he) who We caused to swallow him the earth and of them (was he) who We drowned And not was Allah to wrong them but they were themselves doing wrong

Verse 41

مَثَلُmathalu(The) example
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those who
ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ittakhadhūtake
مِنminbesides
دُونِdūnibesides
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
أَوْلِيَآءَawliyāaprotectors
كَمَثَلِkamathali(is) like
ٱلْعَنكَبُوتِl-ʿankabūtithe spider
ٱتَّخَذَتْittakhadhatwho takes
بَيْتًۭا ۖbaytana house
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
أَوْهَنَawhanathe weakest
ٱلْبُيُوتِl-buyūti(of) houses
لَبَيْتُlabaytu(is) surely (the) house
ٱلْعَنكَبُوتِ ۖl-ʿankabūti(of) the spider
لَوْlawif (only)
كَانُوا۟kānūthey
يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow

Translation

(The) example (of) those who take besides besides Allah protectors (is) like the spider who takes a house And indeed the weakest (of) houses (is) surely (the) house (of) the spider if (only) they know

Verse 42

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknows
مَاmāwhat
يَدْعُونَyadʿūnathey invoke
مِنminbesides Him
دُونِهِۦdūnihibesides Him
مِنminany
شَىْءٍۢ ۚshayinthing
وَهُوَwahuwaAnd He
ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzu(is) the All-Mighty
ٱلْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuthe All-Wise

Translation

Indeed Allah knows what they invoke besides Him besides Him any thing And He (is) the All-Mighty the All-Wise

Verse 43

وَتِلْكَwatil'kaAnd these
ٱلْأَمْثَـٰلُl-amthāluexamples
نَضْرِبُهَاnaḍribuhāWe set forth
لِلنَّاسِ ۖlilnnāsito mankind
وَمَاwamābut not
يَعْقِلُهَآyaʿqiluhāwill understand them
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱلْعَـٰلِمُونَl-ʿālimūnathose of knowledge

Translation

And these examples We set forth to mankind but not will understand them except those of knowledge

Verse 44

خَلَقَkhalaqaAllah created
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah created
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earth
بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚbil-ḥaqiin truth
إِنَّinnaIndeed
فِىfīin
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
لَـَٔايَةًۭlaāyatan(is) surely a Sign
لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَlil'mu'minīnafor the believers

Translation

Allah created Allah created the heavens and the earth in truth Indeed in that (is) surely a Sign for the believers

Verse 45

ٱتْلُut'luRecite
مَآmāwhat
أُوحِىَūḥiyahas been revealed
إِلَيْكَilaykato you
مِنَminaof
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābithe Book
وَأَقِمِwa-aqimiand establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ ۖl-ṣalatathe prayer
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَl-ṣalatathe prayer
تَنْهَىٰtanhāprevents
عَنِʿanifrom
ٱلْفَحْشَآءِl-faḥshāithe immorality
وَٱلْمُنكَرِ ۗwal-munkariand evil deeds
وَلَذِكْرُwaladhik'ruand surely (the) remembrance
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
أَكْبَرُ ۗakbaru(is) greatest
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknows
مَاmāwhat
تَصْنَعُونَtaṣnaʿūnayou do

Translation

Recite what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish the prayer Indeed the prayer prevents from the immorality and evil deeds and surely (the) remembrance (of) Allah (is) greatest And Allah knows what you do

Verse 46

۞ وَلَاwalāAnd (do) not
تُجَـٰدِلُوٓا۟tujādilūargue
أَهْلَahla(with the) People of the Book
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(with the) People of the Book
إِلَّاillāexcept
بِٱلَّتِىbi-allatīby which
هِىَhiya[it]
أَحْسَنُaḥsanu(is) best
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ظَلَمُوا۟ẓalamū(do) wrong
مِنْهُمْ ۖmin'humamong them
وَقُولُوٓا۟waqūlūand say
ءَامَنَّاāmannāWe believe
بِٱلَّذِىٓbi-alladhīin that (which)
أُنزِلَunzilahas been revealed
إِلَيْنَاilaynāto us
وَأُنزِلَwa-unzilaand was revealed
إِلَيْكُمْilaykumto you
وَإِلَـٰهُنَاwa-ilāhunāAnd our God
وَإِلَـٰهُكُمْwa-ilāhukumand your God
وَٰحِدٌۭwāḥidun(is) One
وَنَحْنُwanaḥnuand we
لَهُۥlahuto Him
مُسْلِمُونَmus'limūnasubmit

Translation

And (do) not argue (with the) People of the Book (with the) People of the Book except by which [it] (is) best except those who (do) wrong among them and say We believe in that (which) has been revealed to us and was revealed to you And our God and your God (is) One and we to Him submit

Verse 47

وَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhālikaAnd thus
أَنزَلْنَآanzalnāWe (have) revealed
إِلَيْكَilaykato you
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ۚl-kitābathe Book
فَٱلَّذِينَfa-alladhīnaSo those
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُātaynāhumuWe gave [them]
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnabelieve
بِهِۦ ۖbihitherein
وَمِنْwaminAnd among
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāithese
مَنman(are some) who
يُؤْمِنُyu'minubelieve
بِهِۦ ۚbihitherein
وَمَاwamāAnd none
يَجْحَدُyajḥadureject
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآbiāyātināOur Verses
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَl-kāfirūnathe disbelievers

Translation

And thus We (have) revealed to you the Book So those We gave [them] the Book believe therein And among these (are some) who believe therein And none reject Our Verses except the disbelievers

Verse 48

وَمَاwamāAnd not
كُنتَkunta(did) you
تَتْلُوا۟tatlūrecite
مِنminbefore it
قَبْلِهِۦqablihibefore it
مِنminany
كِتَـٰبٍۢkitābinBook
وَلَاwalāand not
تَخُطُّهُۥtakhuṭṭuhu(did) you write it
بِيَمِينِكَ ۖbiyamīnikawith your right hand
إِذًۭاidhanin that case
لَّٱرْتَابَla-ir'tābasurely (would) have doubted
ٱلْمُبْطِلُونَl-mub'ṭilūnathe falsifiers

Translation

And not (did) you recite before it before it any Book and not (did) you write it with your right hand in that case surely (would) have doubted the falsifiers

Verse 49

بَلْbalNay
هُوَhuwait
ءَايَـٰتٌۢāyātun(is) Verses
بَيِّنَـٰتٌۭbayyinātunclear
فِىfīin
صُدُورِṣudūri(the) breasts
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those who
أُوتُوا۟ūtūare given
ٱلْعِلْمَ ۚl-ʿil'mathe knowledge
وَمَاwamāAnd not
يَجْحَدُyajḥadureject
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآbiāyātināOur Verses
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَl-ẓālimūnathe wrongdoers

Translation

Nay it (is) Verses clear in (the) breasts (of) those who are given the knowledge And not reject Our Verses except the wrongdoers

Verse 50

وَقَالُوا۟waqālūAnd they say
لَوْلَآlawlāWhy not
أُنزِلَunzilaare sent down
عَلَيْهِʿalayhito him
ءَايَـٰتٌۭāyātun(the) Signs
مِّنminfrom
رَّبِّهِۦ ۖrabbihihis Lord
قُلْqulSay
إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتُl-āyātuthe Signs
عِندَʿinda(are) with
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
وَإِنَّمَآwa-innamāand only
أَنَا۠anāI (am)
نَذِيرٌۭnadhīruna warner
مُّبِينٌmubīnunclear

Translation

And they say Why not are sent down to him (the) Signs from his Lord Say Only the Signs (are) with Allah and only I (am) a warner clear

Verse 51

أَوَلَمْawalamAnd is (it) not
يَكْفِهِمْyakfihimsufficient for them
أَنَّآannāthat We
أَنزَلْنَاanzalnārevealed
عَلَيْكَʿalaykato you
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
يُتْلَىٰyut'lā(which) is recited
عَلَيْهِمْ ۚʿalayhimto them
إِنَّinnaIndeed
فِىfīin
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
لَرَحْمَةًۭlaraḥmatansurely is a mercy
وَذِكْرَىٰwadhik'rāand a reminder
لِقَوْمٍۢliqawminfor a people
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnawho believe

Translation

And is (it) not sufficient for them that We revealed to you the Book (which) is recited to them Indeed in that surely is a mercy and a reminder for a people who believe

Verse 52

قُلْqulSay
كَفَىٰkafāSufficient is
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiAllah
بَيْنِىbaynībetween me
وَبَيْنَكُمْwabaynakumand between you
شَهِيدًۭا ۖshahīdan(as) a Witness
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuHe knows
مَاmāwhat
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗwal-arḍiand the earth
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِbil-bāṭiliin [the] falsehood
وَكَفَرُوا۟wakafarūand disbelieve
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikathose
هُمُhumuthey
ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَl-khāsirūna(are) the losers

Translation

Say Sufficient is Allah between me and between you (as) a Witness He knows what (is) in the heavens and the earth And those who believe in [the] falsehood and disbelieve in Allah those they (are) the losers

Verse 53

وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَwayastaʿjilūnakaAnd they ask you to hasten
بِٱلْعَذَابِ ۚbil-ʿadhābi[with] the punishment
وَلَوْلَآwalawlāAnd if not
أَجَلٌۭajalun(for) a term
مُّسَمًّۭىmusammanappointed
لَّجَآءَهُمُlajāahumusurely (would) have come to them
ٱلْعَذَابُl-ʿadhābuthe punishment
وَلَيَأْتِيَنَّهُمwalayatiyannahumBut it will surely come to them
بَغْتَةًۭbaghtatansuddenly
وَهُمْwahumwhile they
لَاlā(do) not
يَشْعُرُونَyashʿurūnaperceive

Translation

And they ask you to hasten [with] the punishment And if not (for) a term appointed surely (would) have come to them the punishment But it will surely come to them suddenly while they (do) not perceive

Verse 54

يَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَyastaʿjilūnakaThey ask you to hasten
بِٱلْعَذَابِbil-ʿadhābithe punishment
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
جَهَنَّمَjahannamaHell
لَمُحِيطَةٌۢlamuḥīṭatunwill surely, encompass
بِٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَbil-kāfirīnathe disbelievers

Translation

They ask you to hasten the punishment And indeed Hell will surely, encompass the disbelievers

Verse 55

يَوْمَyawmaOn (the) Day
يَغْشَىٰهُمُyaghshāhumuwill cover them
ٱلْعَذَابُl-ʿadhābuthe punishment
مِنminfrom
فَوْقِهِمْfawqihimabove them
وَمِنwaminand from
تَحْتِtaḥtibelow
أَرْجُلِهِمْarjulihimtheir feet
وَيَقُولُwayaqūluand He will say
ذُوقُوا۟dhūqūTaste
مَاmāwhat
كُنتُمْkuntumyou used
تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūna(to) do

Translation

On (the) Day will cover them the punishment from above them and from below their feet and He will say Taste what you used (to) do

Verse 56

يَـٰعِبَادِىَyāʿibādiyaO My servants
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
ءَامَنُوٓا۟āmanūbelieve
إِنَّinnaIndeed
أَرْضِىarḍīMy earth
وَٰسِعَةٌۭwāsiʿatun(is) spacious
فَإِيَّـٰىَfa-iyyāyaso only
فَٱعْبُدُونِfa-uʿ'budūniworship Me

Translation

O My servants who believe Indeed My earth (is) spacious so only worship Me

Verse 57

كُلُّkulluEvery
نَفْسٍۢnafsinsoul
ذَآئِقَةُdhāiqatu(will) taste
ٱلْمَوْتِ ۖl-mawtithe death
ثُمَّthummaThen
إِلَيْنَاilaynāto Us
تُرْجَعُونَtur'jaʿūnayou will be returned

Translation

Every soul (will) taste the death Then to Us you will be returned

Verse 58

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥāti[the] righteous deeds
لَنُبَوِّئَنَّهُمlanubawwi-annahumsurely We will give them a place
مِّنَminain
ٱلْجَنَّةِl-janatiParadise
غُرَفًۭاghurafanlofty dwellings
تَجْرِىtajrīflow
مِنminfrom
تَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath it
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُl-anhāruthe rivers
خَـٰلِدِينَkhālidīnawill abide forever
فِيهَا ۚfīhāin it
نِعْمَniʿ'maExcellent is
أَجْرُajru(the) reward
ٱلْعَـٰمِلِينَl-ʿāmilīna(of) the workers

Translation

And those who believe and do [the] righteous deeds surely We will give them a place in Paradise lofty dwellings flow from underneath it the rivers will abide forever in it Excellent is (the) reward (of) the workers

Verse 59

ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose who
صَبَرُوا۟ṣabarū(are) patient
وَعَلَىٰwaʿalāand upon
رَبِّهِمْrabbihimtheir Lord
يَتَوَكَّلُونَyatawakkalūnaput their trust

Translation

Those who (are) patient and upon their Lord put their trust

Verse 60

وَكَأَيِّنwaka-ayyinAnd how many
مِّنminof
دَآبَّةٍۢdābbatina creature
لَّاlā(does) not
تَحْمِلُtaḥmilucarry
رِزْقَهَاriz'qahāits provision
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
يَرْزُقُهَاyarzuquhāprovides (for) it
وَإِيَّاكُمْ ۚwa-iyyākumand (for) you
وَهُوَwahuwaAnd He
ٱلسَّمِيعُl-samīʿu(is) the All-Hearer
ٱلْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmuthe All-Knower

Translation

And how many of a creature (does) not carry its provision Allah provides (for) it and (for) you And He (is) the All-Hearer the All-Knower

Verse 61

وَلَئِنwala-inAnd if
سَأَلْتَهُمsa-altahumyou ask them
مَّنْmanWho
خَلَقَkhalaqacreated
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earth
وَسَخَّرَwasakharaand subjected
ٱلشَّمْسَl-shamsathe sun
وَٱلْقَمَرَwal-qamaraand the moon
لَيَقُولُنَّlayaqūlunnaSurely they would say
ٱللَّهُ ۖl-lahuAllah
فَأَنَّىٰfa-annāThen how
يُؤْفَكُونَyu'fakūnaare they deluded

Translation

And if you ask them Who created the heavens and the earth and subjected the sun and the moon Surely they would say Allah Then how are they deluded

Verse 62

ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllah
يَبْسُطُyabsuṭuextends
ٱلرِّزْقَl-riz'qathe provision
لِمَنlimanfor whom
يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
مِنْminof
عِبَادِهِۦʿibādihiHis slaves
وَيَقْدِرُwayaqdiruand restricts
لَهُۥٓ ۚlahufor him
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
بِكُلِّbikulliof every
شَىْءٍshayinthing
عَلِيمٌۭʿalīmun(is) All-Knower

Translation

Allah extends the provision for whom He wills of His slaves and restricts for him Indeed Allah of every thing (is) All-Knower

Verse 63

وَلَئِنwala-inAnd if
سَأَلْتَهُمsa-altahumyou ask them
مَّنmanWho
نَّزَّلَnazzalasends down
مِنَminafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe sky
مَآءًۭmāanwater
فَأَحْيَاfa-aḥyāand gives life
بِهِbihithereby
ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍa(to) the earth
مِنۢminafter
بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
مَوْتِهَاmawtihāits death
لَيَقُولُنَّlayaqūlunnaSurely, they would say
ٱللَّهُ ۚl-lahuAllah
قُلِquliSay
ٱلْحَمْدُl-ḥamduAll Praises
لِلَّهِ ۚlillahi(are) for Allah
بَلْbalBut
أَكْثَرُهُمْaktharuhummost of them
لَاlā(do) not
يَعْقِلُونَyaʿqilūnause reason

Translation

And if you ask them Who sends down from the sky water and gives life thereby (to) the earth after after its death Surely, they would say Allah Say All Praises (are) for Allah But most of them (do) not use reason

Verse 64

وَمَاwamāAnd not
هَـٰذِهِhādhihi(is) this
ٱلْحَيَوٰةُl-ḥayatulife
ٱلدُّنْيَآl-dun'yā(of) the world
إِلَّاillābut
لَهْوٌۭlahwunamusement
وَلَعِبٌۭ ۚwalaʿibunand play
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
ٱلدَّارَl-dārathe Home
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَl-ākhirata(of) the Hereafter
لَهِىَlahiyasurely, it
ٱلْحَيَوَانُ ۚl-ḥayawānu(is) the life
لَوْlawif only
كَانُوا۟kānūthey
يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow

Translation

And not (is) this life (of) the world but amusement and play And indeed the Home (of) the Hereafter surely, it (is) the life if only they know

Verse 65

فَإِذَاfa-idhāAnd when
رَكِبُوا۟rakibūthey embark
فِىfī[in]
ٱلْفُلْكِl-ful'kithe ship
دَعَوُا۟daʿawūthey call
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
مُخْلِصِينَmukh'liṣīna(being) sincere
لَهُlahuto Him
ٱلدِّينَl-dīna(in) the religion
فَلَمَّاfalammāBut when
نَجَّىٰهُمْnajjāhumHe delivers them
إِلَىilāto
ٱلْبَرِّl-barithe land
إِذَاidhābehold
هُمْhumthey
يُشْرِكُونَyush'rikūnaassociate partners (with Him)

Translation

And when they embark [in] the ship they call Allah (being) sincere to Him (in) the religion But when He delivers them to the land behold they associate partners (with Him)

Verse 66

لِيَكْفُرُوا۟liyakfurūSo that they may deny
بِمَآbimā[in] what
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْātaynāhumWe have given them
وَلِيَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ ۖwaliyatamattaʿūand they may enjoy (themselves)
فَسَوْفَfasawfaBut soon
يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnathey will know

Translation

So that they may deny [in] what We have given them and they may enjoy (themselves) But soon they will know

Verse 67

أَوَلَمْawalamDo not
يَرَوْا۟yarawthey see
أَنَّاannāthat We
جَعَلْنَاjaʿalnāhave made
حَرَمًاḥaramana Sanctuary
ءَامِنًۭاāminansecure
وَيُتَخَطَّفُwayutakhaṭṭafuwhile are being taken away
ٱلنَّاسُl-nāsuthe people
مِنْminaround them
حَوْلِهِمْ ۚḥawlihimaround them
أَفَبِٱلْبَـٰطِلِafabil-bāṭiliThen do in (the) falsehood
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnathey believe
وَبِنِعْمَةِwabiniʿ'matiand in (the) Favor
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
يَكْفُرُونَyakfurūnathey disbelieve

Translation

Do not they see that We have made a Sanctuary secure while are being taken away the people around them around them Then do in (the) falsehood they believe and in (the) Favor (of) Allah they disbelieve

Verse 68

وَمَنْwamanAnd who
أَظْلَمُaẓlamu(is) more unjust
مِمَّنِmimmanithan (he) who
ٱفْتَرَىٰif'tarāinvents
عَلَىʿalāagainst
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
كَذِبًاkadhibana lie
أَوْawor
كَذَّبَkadhabadenies
بِٱلْحَقِّbil-ḥaqithe truth
لَمَّاlammāwhen
جَآءَهُۥٓ ۚjāahuit has come to him
أَلَيْسَalaysaIs there not
فِىfīin
جَهَنَّمَjahannamaHell
مَثْوًۭىmathwanan abode
لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَlil'kāfirīnafor the disbelievers

Translation

And who (is) more unjust than (he) who invents against Allah a lie or denies the truth when it has come to him Is there not in Hell an abode for the disbelievers

Verse 69

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
جَـٰهَدُوا۟jāhadūstrive
فِينَاfīnāfor Us
لَنَهْدِيَنَّهُمْlanahdiyannahumWe will surely, guide them
سُبُلَنَا ۚsubulanā(to) Our ways
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لَمَعَlamaʿasurely (is) with
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīnathe good-doers

Translation

And those who strive for Us We will surely, guide them (to) Our ways And indeed Allah surely (is) with the good-doers
