Verse 1

الٓمٓalif-lam-meemAlif Lam Meem

Translation

Alif Lam Meem

Verse 2

غُلِبَتِghulibatiHave been defeated
ٱلرُّومُl-rūmuthe Romans

Translation

Have been defeated the Romans

Verse 3

فِىٓfīIn
أَدْنَىadnā(the) nearest
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍiland
وَهُمwahumBut they
مِّنۢminafter
بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
غَلَبِهِمْghalabihimtheir defeat
سَيَغْلِبُونَsayaghlibūnawill overcome

Translation

In (the) nearest land But they after after their defeat will overcome

Verse 4

فِىfīWithin
بِضْعِbiḍ'ʿia few
سِنِينَ ۗsinīnayears
لِلَّهِlillahiFor Allah
ٱلْأَمْرُl-amru(is) the command
مِنminbefore
قَبْلُqablubefore
وَمِنۢwaminand after
بَعْدُ ۚbaʿduand after
وَيَوْمَئِذٍۢwayawma-idhinAnd that day
يَفْرَحُyafraḥuwill rejoice
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَl-mu'minūnathe believers

Translation

Within a few years For Allah (is) the command before before and after and after And that day will rejoice the believers

Verse 5

بِنَصْرِbinaṣriWith (the) help
ٱللَّهِ ۚl-lahi(of) Allah
يَنصُرُyanṣuruHe helps
مَنmanwhom
يَشَآءُ ۖyashāuHe wills
وَهُوَwahuwaAnd He
ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzu(is) the All-Mighty
ٱلرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuthe Most Merciful

Translation

With (the) help (of) Allah He helps whom He wills And He (is) the All-Mighty the Most Merciful

Verse 6

وَعْدَwaʿda(It is the) Promise
ٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahi(of) Allah
لَاlā(Does) not
يُخْلِفُyukh'lifufail
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
وَعْدَهُۥwaʿdahu(in) His promise
وَلَـٰكِنَّwalākinnabut
أَكْثَرَaktharamost (of)
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi[the] people
لَاlā(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow

Translation

(It is the) Promise (of) Allah (Does) not fail Allah (in) His promise but most (of) [the] people (do) not know

Verse 7

يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaThey know
ظَـٰهِرًۭاẓāhiran(the) apparent
مِّنَminaof
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِl-ḥayatithe life
ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the world
وَهُمْwahumbut they
عَنِʿaniabout
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhiratithe Hereafter
هُمْhum[they]
غَـٰفِلُونَghāfilūna(are) heedless

Translation

They know (the) apparent of the life (of) the world but they about the Hereafter [they] (are) heedless

Verse 8

أَوَلَمْawalamDo not
يَتَفَكَّرُوا۟yatafakkarūthey ponder
فِىٓfīwithin
أَنفُسِهِم ۗanfusihimthemselves
مَّاmāNot
خَلَقَkhalaqaAllah (has) created
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah (has) created
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earth
وَمَاwamāand what
بَيْنَهُمَآbaynahumā(is) between them
إِلَّاillāexcept
بِٱلْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin truth
وَأَجَلٍۢwa-ajalinand (for) a term
مُّسَمًّۭى ۗmusammanappointed
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
كَثِيرًۭاkathīranmany
مِّنَminaof
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsithe people
بِلِقَآئِbiliqāiin (the) meeting
رَبِّهِمْrabbihim(with) their Lord
لَكَـٰفِرُونَlakāfirūnasurely (are) disbelievers

Translation

Do not they ponder within themselves Not Allah (has) created Allah (has) created the heavens and the earth and what (is) between them except in truth and (for) a term appointed And indeed many of the people in (the) meeting (with) their Lord surely (are) disbelievers

Verse 9

أَوَلَمْawalamHave not
يَسِيرُوا۟yasīrūthey traveled
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
فَيَنظُرُوا۟fayanẓurūand observed
كَيْفَkayfahow
كَانَkānawas
عَـٰقِبَةُʿāqibatu(the) end
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those
مِنminbefore them
قَبْلِهِمْ ۚqablihimbefore them
كَانُوٓا۟kānūThey were
أَشَدَّashaddamightier
مِنْهُمْmin'humthan them
قُوَّةًۭquwwatan(in) strength
وَأَثَارُوا۟wa-athārūand they dug
ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earth
وَعَمَرُوهَآwaʿamarūhāand built (on) it
أَكْثَرَaktharamore
مِمَّاmimmāthan what
عَمَرُوهَاʿamarūhāthey have built (on) it
وَجَآءَتْهُمْwajāathumAnd came (to) them
رُسُلُهُمrusuluhumtheir Messengers
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ ۖbil-bayinātiwith clear proofs
فَمَاfamāSo not
كَانَkānawas
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
لِيَظْلِمَهُمْliyaẓlimahumto wrong them
وَلَـٰكِنwalākinbut
كَانُوٓا۟kānūthey were
أَنفُسَهُمْanfusahumthemselves
يَظْلِمُونَyaẓlimūna(doing) wrong

Translation

Have not they traveled in the earth and observed how was (the) end (of) those before them before them They were mightier than them (in) strength and they dug the earth and built (on) it more than what they have built (on) it And came (to) them their Messengers with clear proofs So not was Allah to wrong them but they were themselves (doing) wrong

Verse 10

ثُمَّthummaThen
كَانَkānawas
عَـٰقِبَةَʿāqibata(the) end
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those who
أَسَـٰٓـُٔوا۟asāūdid evil
ٱلسُّوٓأَىٰٓl-sūāthe evil
أَنanbecause
كَذَّبُوا۟kadhabūthey denied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِbiāyāti(the) Signs
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
وَكَانُوا۟wakānūand were
بِهَاbihāof them
يَسْتَهْزِءُونَyastahziūnamaking mockery

Translation

Then was (the) end (of) those who did evil the evil because they denied (the) Signs (of) Allah and were of them making mockery

Verse 11

ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllah
يَبْدَؤُا۟yabda-uoriginates
ٱلْخَلْقَl-khalqathe creation
ثُمَّthummathen
يُعِيدُهُۥyuʿīduhuHe repeats it
ثُمَّthummathen
إِلَيْهِilayhito Him
تُرْجَعُونَtur'jaʿūnayou will be returned

Translation

Allah originates the creation then He repeats it then to Him you will be returned

Verse 12

وَيَوْمَwayawmaAnd (the) Day
تَقُومُtaqūmuwill (be) established
ٱلسَّاعَةُl-sāʿatuthe Hour
يُبْلِسُyub'lisuwill (be in) despair
ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَl-muj'rimūnathe criminals

Translation

And (the) Day will (be) established the Hour will (be in) despair the criminals

Verse 13

وَلَمْwalamAnd not
يَكُنyakunwill be
لَّهُمlahumfor them
مِّنminamong
شُرَكَآئِهِمْshurakāihimtheirs partners
شُفَعَـٰٓؤُا۟shufaʿāuany intercessors
وَكَانُوا۟wakānūand they will be
بِشُرَكَآئِهِمْbishurakāihimin their partners
كَـٰفِرِينَkāfirīnadisbelievers

Translation

And not will be for them among theirs partners any intercessors and they will be in their partners disbelievers

Verse 14

وَيَوْمَwayawmaAnd (the) Day
تَقُومُtaqūmuwill (be) established
ٱلسَّاعَةُl-sāʿatuthe Hour
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Day
يَتَفَرَّقُونَyatafarraqūnathey will become separated

Translation

And (the) Day will (be) established the Hour that Day they will become separated

Verse 15

فَأَمَّاfa-ammāThen as for
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieved
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand did
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
فَهُمْfahumso they
فِىfīin
رَوْضَةٍۢrawḍatina Garden
يُحْبَرُونَyuḥ'barūnawill be delighted

Translation

Then as for those who believed and did righteous deeds so they in a Garden will be delighted

Verse 16

وَأَمَّاwa-ammāBut as for
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
وَكَذَّبُوا۟wakadhabūand denied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاbiāyātināOur Signs
وَلِقَآئِwaliqāiand (the) meeting
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhirati(of) the Hereafter
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikathen those
فِىfīin
ٱلْعَذَابِl-ʿadhābithe punishment
مُحْضَرُونَmuḥ'ḍarūna(will be) brought forth

Translation

But as for those who disbelieved and denied Our Signs and (the) meeting (of) the Hereafter then those in the punishment (will be) brought forth

Verse 17

فَسُبْحَـٰنَfasub'ḥānaSo glory be to
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
حِينَḥīnawhen
تُمْسُونَtum'sūnayou reach the evening
وَحِينَwaḥīnaand when
تُصْبِحُونَtuṣ'biḥūnayou reach the morning

Translation

So glory be to Allah when you reach the evening and when you reach the morning

Verse 18

وَلَهُwalahuAnd for Him
ٱلْحَمْدُl-ḥamdu(are) all praises
فِىfīin
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth
وَعَشِيًّۭاwaʿashiyyanand (at) night
وَحِينَwaḥīnaand when
تُظْهِرُونَtuẓ'hirūnayou are at noon

Translation

And for Him (are) all praises in the heavens and the earth and (at) night and when you are at noon

Verse 19

يُخْرِجُyukh'rijuHe brings forth
ٱلْحَىَّl-ḥayathe living
مِنَminafrom
ٱلْمَيِّتِl-mayitithe dead
وَيُخْرِجُwayukh'rijuand He brings forth
ٱلْمَيِّتَl-mayitathe dead
مِنَminafrom
ٱلْحَىِّl-ḥayithe living
وَيُحْىِwayuḥ'yīand He gives life
ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍa(to) the earth
بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
مَوْتِهَا ۚmawtihāits death
وَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhālikaand thus
تُخْرَجُونَtukh'rajūnayou will be brought forth

Translation

He brings forth the living from the dead and He brings forth the dead from the living and He gives life (to) the earth after its death and thus you will be brought forth

Verse 20

وَمِنْwaminAnd among
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓāyātihiHis Signs
أَنْan(is) that
خَلَقَكُمkhalaqakumHe created you
مِّنminfrom
تُرَابٍۢturābindust
ثُمَّthummathen
إِذَآidhābehold
أَنتُمantumYou
بَشَرٌۭbasharun(are) human beings
تَنتَشِرُونَtantashirūnadispersing

Translation

And among His Signs (is) that He created you from dust then behold You (are) human beings dispersing

Verse 21

وَمِنْwaminAnd among
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓāyātihiHis Signs
أَنْan(is) that
خَلَقَkhalaqaHe created
لَكُمlakumfor you
مِّنْminfrom
أَنفُسِكُمْanfusikumyourselves
أَزْوَٰجًۭاazwājanmates
لِّتَسْكُنُوٓا۟litaskunūthat you may find tranquility
إِلَيْهَاilayhāin them
وَجَعَلَwajaʿalaand He placed
بَيْنَكُمbaynakumbetween you
مَّوَدَّةًۭmawaddatanlove
وَرَحْمَةً ۚwaraḥmatanand mercy
إِنَّinnaIndeed
فِىfīin
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢlaāyātinsurely (are) Signs
لِّقَوْمٍۢliqawminfor a people
يَتَفَكَّرُونَyatafakkarūnawho reflect

Translation

And among His Signs (is) that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them and He placed between you love and mercy Indeed in that surely (are) Signs for a people who reflect

Verse 22

وَمِنْwaminAnd among
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦāyātihiHis Signs
خَلْقُkhalqu(is the) creation
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth
وَٱخْتِلَـٰفُwa-ikh'tilāfuand the diversity
أَلْسِنَتِكُمْalsinatikum(of) your languages
وَأَلْوَٰنِكُمْ ۚwa-alwānikumand your colors
إِنَّinnaIndeed
فِىfīin
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢlaāyātinsurely (are) Signs
لِّلْعَـٰلِمِينَlil'ʿālimīnafor those of knowledge

Translation

And among His Signs (is the) creation (of) the heavens and the earth and the diversity (of) your languages and your colors Indeed in that surely (are) Signs for those of knowledge

Verse 23

وَمِنْwaminAnd among
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦāyātihiHis Signs
مَنَامُكُمmanāmukum(is) your sleep
بِٱلَّيْلِbi-al-layliby night
وَٱلنَّهَارِwal-nahāriand the day
وَٱبْتِغَآؤُكُمwa-ib'tighāukum[and] your seeking
مِّنminof
فَضْلِهِۦٓ ۚfaḍlihiHis Bounty
إِنَّinnaIndeed
فِىfīin
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢlaāyātinsurely (are) Signs
لِّقَوْمٍۢliqawminfor a people
يَسْمَعُونَyasmaʿūnawho listen

Translation

And among His Signs (is) your sleep by night and the day [and] your seeking of His Bounty Indeed in that surely (are) Signs for a people who listen

Verse 24

وَمِنْwaminAnd among
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦāyātihiHis Signs
يُرِيكُمُyurīkumuHe shows you
ٱلْبَرْقَl-barqathe lightning
خَوْفًۭاkhawfan(causing) fear
وَطَمَعًۭاwaṭamaʿanand hope
وَيُنَزِّلُwayunazziluand He sends down
مِنَminafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe sky
مَآءًۭmāanwater
فَيُحْىِۦfayuḥ'yīand gives life
بِهِbihitherewith
ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍa(to) the earth
بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
مَوْتِهَآ ۚmawtihāits death
إِنَّinnaIndeed
فِىfīin
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢlaāyātinsurely (are) Signs
لِّقَوْمٍۢliqawminfor a people
يَعْقِلُونَyaʿqilūnawho use intellect

Translation

And among His Signs He shows you the lightning (causing) fear and hope and He sends down from the sky water and gives life therewith (to) the earth after its death Indeed in that surely (are) Signs for a people who use intellect

Verse 25

وَمِنْwaminAnd among
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓāyātihiHis Signs
أَنan(is) that
تَقُومَtaqūmastands
ٱلسَّمَآءُl-samāuthe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضُwal-arḍuand the earth
بِأَمْرِهِۦ ۚbi-amrihiby His Command
ثُمَّthummaThen
إِذَاidhāwhen
دَعَاكُمْdaʿākumHe calls you
دَعْوَةًۭdaʿwatan(with) a call
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
إِذَآidhābehold
أَنتُمْantumYou
تَخْرُجُونَtakhrujūnawill come forth

Translation

And among His Signs (is) that stands the heavens and the earth by His Command Then when He calls you (with) a call from the earth behold You will come forth

Verse 26

وَلَهُۥwalahuAnd to Him (belongs)
مَنmanwhoever
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖwal-arḍiand the earth
كُلٌّۭkullunAll
لَّهُۥlahuto Him
قَـٰنِتُونَqānitūna(are) obedient

Translation

And to Him (belongs) whoever (is) in the heavens and the earth All to Him (are) obedient

Verse 27

وَهُوَwahuwaAnd He
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Who
يَبْدَؤُا۟yabda-uoriginates
ٱلْخَلْقَl-khalqathe creation
ثُمَّthummathen
يُعِيدُهُۥyuʿīduhurepeats it
وَهُوَwahuwaand it
أَهْوَنُahwanu(is) easier
عَلَيْهِ ۚʿalayhifor Him
وَلَهُwalahuAnd for Him
ٱلْمَثَلُl-mathalu(is) the description
ٱلْأَعْلَىٰl-aʿlāthe highest
فِىfīin
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚwal-arḍiand the earth
وَهُوَwahuwaAnd He
ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzu(is) the All-Mighty
ٱلْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuthe All-Wise

Translation

And He (is) the One Who originates the creation then repeats it and it (is) easier for Him And for Him (is) the description the highest in the heavens and the earth And He (is) the All-Mighty the All-Wise

Verse 28

ضَرَبَḍarabaHe sets forth
لَكُمlakumto you
مَّثَلًۭاmathalanan example
مِّنْminfrom
أَنفُسِكُمْ ۖanfusikumyourselves
هَلhalIs
لَّكُمlakumfor you
مِّنminamong
مَّاmāwhat
مَلَكَتْmalakatpossess
أَيْمَـٰنُكُمaymānukumyour right hands
مِّنminany
شُرَكَآءَshurakāapartners
فِىfīin
مَاmāwhat
رَزَقْنَـٰكُمْrazaqnākumWe have provided you
فَأَنتُمْfa-antumso you
فِيهِfīhiin it
سَوَآءٌۭsawāon(are) equal
تَخَافُونَهُمْtakhāfūnahumyou fear them
كَخِيفَتِكُمْkakhīfatikumas you fear
أَنفُسَكُمْ ۚanfusakumyourselves
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
نُفَصِّلُnufaṣṣiluWe explain
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِl-āyātithe Verses
لِقَوْمٍۢliqawminfor a people
يَعْقِلُونَyaʿqilūna(who) use reason

Translation

He sets forth to you an example from yourselves Is for you among what possess your right hands any partners in what We have provided you so you in it (are) equal you fear them as you fear yourselves Thus We explain the Verses for a people (who) use reason

Verse 29

بَلِbaliNay
ٱتَّبَعَittabaʿafollow
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ظَلَمُوٓا۟ẓalamūdo wrong
أَهْوَآءَهُمahwāahumtheir desires
بِغَيْرِbighayriwithout
عِلْمٍۢ ۖʿil'minknowledge
فَمَنfamanThen who
يَهْدِىyahdī(can) guide
مَنْman(one) whom
أَضَلَّaḍallaAllah has let go astray
ٱللَّهُ ۖl-lahuAllah has let go astray
وَمَاwamāAnd not
لَهُمlahumfor them
مِّنminany
نَّـٰصِرِينَnāṣirīnahelpers

Translation

Nay follow those who do wrong their desires without knowledge Then who (can) guide (one) whom Allah has let go astray Allah has let go astray And not for them any helpers

Verse 30

فَأَقِمْfa-aqimSo set
وَجْهَكَwajhakayour face
لِلدِّينِlilddīnito the religion
حَنِيفًۭا ۚḥanīfanupright
فِطْرَتَfiṭ'rataNature
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(made by) Allah
ٱلَّتِىallatī(upon) which
فَطَرَfaṭaraHe has created
ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsamankind
عَلَيْهَا ۚʿalayhā[on it]
لَاlāNo
تَبْدِيلَtabdīlachange
لِخَلْقِlikhalqi(should there be) in the creation
ٱللَّهِ ۚl-lahi(of) Allah
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
ٱلدِّينُl-dīnu(is) the religion
ٱلْقَيِّمُl-qayimuthe correct
وَلَـٰكِنَّwalākinnabut
أَكْثَرَaktharamost
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsimen
لَاlā(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow

Translation

So set your face to the religion upright Nature (made by) Allah (upon) which He has created mankind [on it] No change (should there be) in the creation (of) Allah That (is) the religion the correct but most men (do) not know

Verse 31

۞ مُنِيبِينَmunībīnaTurning
إِلَيْهِilayhito Him
وَٱتَّقُوهُwa-ittaqūhuand fear Him
وَأَقِيمُوا۟wa-aqīmūand establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَl-ṣalatathe prayer
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تَكُونُوا۟takūnūbe
مِنَminaof
ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَl-mush'rikīnathe polytheists

Translation

Turning to Him and fear Him and establish the prayer and (do) not be of the polytheists

Verse 32

مِنَminaOf
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
فَرَّقُوا۟farraqūdivide
دِينَهُمْdīnahumtheir religion
وَكَانُوا۟wakānūand become
شِيَعًۭا ۖshiyaʿansects
كُلُّkullueach
حِزْبٍۭḥiz'binparty
بِمَاbimāin what
لَدَيْهِمْladayhimthey have
فَرِحُونَfariḥūnarejoicing

Translation

Of those who divide their religion and become sects each party in what they have rejoicing

Verse 33

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
مَسَّmassatouches
ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsapeople
ضُرٌّۭḍurrunhardship
دَعَوْا۟daʿawthey call
رَبَّهُمrabbahumtheir Lord
مُّنِيبِينَmunībīnaturning
إِلَيْهِilayhito Him
ثُمَّthummaThen
إِذَآidhāwhen
أَذَاقَهُمadhāqahumHe causes them to taste
مِّنْهُmin'hufrom Him
رَحْمَةًraḥmatanMercy
إِذَاidhābehold
فَرِيقٌۭfarīqunA party
مِّنْهُمmin'humof them
بِرَبِّهِمْbirabbihimwith their Lord
يُشْرِكُونَyush'rikūnaassociate partners

Translation

And when touches people hardship they call their Lord turning to Him Then when He causes them to taste from Him Mercy behold A party of them with their Lord associate partners

Verse 34

لِيَكْفُرُوا۟liyakfurūSo as to deny
بِمَآbimā[in] what
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ ۚātaynāhumWe have granted them
فَتَمَتَّعُوا۟fatamattaʿūThen enjoy
فَسَوْفَfasawfabut soon
تَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūnayou will know

Translation

So as to deny [in] what We have granted them Then enjoy but soon you will know

Verse 35

أَمْamOr
أَنزَلْنَاanzalnāhave We sent
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto them
سُلْطَـٰنًۭاsul'ṭānanan authority
فَهُوَfahuwaand it
يَتَكَلَّمُyatakallamuspeaks
بِمَاbimāof what
كَانُوا۟kānūthey were
بِهِۦbihiwith Him
يُشْرِكُونَyush'rikūnaassociating

Translation

Or have We sent to them an authority and it speaks of what they were with Him associating

Verse 36

وَإِذَآwa-idhāAnd when
أَذَقْنَاadhaqnāWe cause people to taste
ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsaWe cause people to taste
رَحْمَةًۭraḥmatanmercy
فَرِحُوا۟fariḥūthey rejoice
بِهَا ۖbihātherein
وَإِنwa-inBut if
تُصِبْهُمْtuṣib'humafflicts them
سَيِّئَةٌۢsayyi-atunan evil
بِمَاbimāfor what
قَدَّمَتْqaddamathave sent forth
أَيْدِيهِمْaydīhimtheir hands
إِذَاidhābehold
هُمْhumThey
يَقْنَطُونَyaqnaṭūnadespair

Translation

And when We cause people to taste We cause people to taste mercy they rejoice therein But if afflicts them an evil for what have sent forth their hands behold They despair

Verse 37

أَوَلَمْawalamDo not
يَرَوْا۟yarawthey see
أَنَّannathat
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يَبْسُطُyabsuṭuextends
ٱلرِّزْقَl-riz'qathe provision
لِمَنlimanfor whom
يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
وَيَقْدِرُ ۚwayaqdiruand straitens (it)
إِنَّinnaIndeed
فِىfīin
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢlaāyātinsurely (are) Signs
لِّقَوْمٍۢliqawminfor a people
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnawho believe

Translation

Do not they see that Allah extends the provision for whom He wills and straitens (it) Indeed in that surely (are) Signs for a people who believe

Verse 38

فَـَٔاتِfaātiSo give
ذَاdhāthe relative
ٱلْقُرْبَىٰl-qur'bāthe relative
حَقَّهُۥḥaqqahuhis right
وَٱلْمِسْكِينَwal-mis'kīnaand the poor
وَٱبْنَwa-ib'naand the wayfarer
ٱلسَّبِيلِ ۚl-sabīliand the wayfarer
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
خَيْرٌۭkhayrun(is) best
لِّلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those who
يُرِيدُونَyurīdūnadesire
وَجْهَwajha(the) Countenance
ٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahi(of) Allah
وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَwa-ulāikaAnd those
هُمُhumuthey
ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَl-muf'liḥūna(are) the successful ones

Translation

So give the relative the relative his right and the poor and the wayfarer and the wayfarer That (is) best for those who desire (the) Countenance (of) Allah And those they (are) the successful ones

Verse 39

وَمَآwamāAnd what
ءَاتَيْتُمātaytumyou give
مِّنminfor
رِّبًۭاribanusury
لِّيَرْبُوَا۟liyarbuwāto increase
فِىٓfīin
أَمْوَٰلِamwāli(the) wealth
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi(of) people
فَلَاfalānot
يَرْبُوا۟yarbū(will) increase
عِندَʿindawith
ٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahiAllah
وَمَآwamāBut what
ءَاتَيْتُمātaytumyou give
مِّنminof
زَكَوٰةٍۢzakatinzakah
تُرِيدُونَturīdūnadesiring
وَجْهَwajha(the) Countenance
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikathen those
هُمُhumu[they]
ٱلْمُضْعِفُونَl-muḍ'ʿifūna(will) get manifold

Translation

And what you give for usury to increase in (the) wealth (of) people not (will) increase with Allah But what you give of zakah desiring (the) Countenance (of) Allah then those [they] (will) get manifold

Verse 40

ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllah
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Who
خَلَقَكُمْkhalaqakumcreated you
ثُمَّthummathen
رَزَقَكُمْrazaqakumHe provided (for) you
ثُمَّthummathen
يُمِيتُكُمْyumītukumHe will cause you to die
ثُمَّthummathen
يُحْيِيكُمْ ۖyuḥ'yīkumHe will give you life
هَلْhalIs (there)
مِنminany
شُرَكَآئِكُمshurakāikum(of) your partners
مَّنmanwho
يَفْعَلُyafʿaludoes
مِنminof
ذَٰلِكُمdhālikumthat
مِّنminany
شَىْءٍۢ ۚshayinthing
سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥsub'ḥānahuGlory be to Him
وَتَعَـٰلَىٰwataʿālāand exalted is He
عَمَّاʿammāabove what
يُشْرِكُونَyush'rikūnathey associate

Translation

Allah (is) the One Who created you then He provided (for) you then He will cause you to die then He will give you life Is (there) any (of) your partners who does of that any thing Glory be to Him and exalted is He above what they associate

Verse 41

ظَهَرَẓaharaHas appeared
ٱلْفَسَادُl-fasāduthe corruption
فِىfīin
ٱلْبَرِّl-barithe land
وَٱلْبَحْرِwal-baḥriand the sea
بِمَاbimāfor what
كَسَبَتْkasabathave earned
أَيْدِىaydī(the) hands
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi(of) people
لِيُذِيقَهُمliyudhīqahumso that He may let them taste
بَعْضَbaʿḍaa part
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(of) that which
عَمِلُوا۟ʿamilūthey have done
لَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumso that they may
يَرْجِعُونَyarjiʿūnareturn

Translation

Has appeared the corruption in the land and the sea for what have earned (the) hands (of) people so that He may let them taste a part (of) that which they have done so that they may return

Verse 42

قُلْqulSay
سِيرُوا۟sīrūTravel
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
فَٱنظُرُوا۟fa-unẓurūand see
كَيْفَkayfahow
كَانَkānawas
عَـٰقِبَةُʿāqibatu(the) end
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those who
مِنmin(were) before
قَبْلُ ۚqablu(were) before
كَانَkānaMost of them were
أَكْثَرُهُمaktharuhumMost of them were
مُّشْرِكِينَmush'rikīnapolytheists

Translation

Say Travel in the earth and see how was (the) end (of) those who (were) before (were) before Most of them were Most of them were polytheists

Verse 43

فَأَقِمْfa-aqimSo set
وَجْهَكَwajhakayour face
لِلدِّينِlilddīnito the religion
ٱلْقَيِّمِl-qayimiright
مِنminbefore
قَبْلِqablibefore
أَنan[that]
يَأْتِىَyatiyacomes
يَوْمٌۭyawmuna Day
لَّاlānot
مَرَدَّmaradda(can be) averted
لَهُۥlahu[it]
مِنَminafrom
ٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahiAllah
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinThat Day
يَصَّدَّعُونَyaṣṣaddaʿūnathey will be divided

Translation

So set your face to the religion right before before [that] comes a Day not (can be) averted [it] from Allah That Day they will be divided

Verse 44

مَنmanWhoever
كَفَرَkafaradisbelieves
فَعَلَيْهِfaʿalayhithen against him
كُفْرُهُۥ ۖkuf'ruhu(is) his disbelief
وَمَنْwamanAnd whoever
عَمِلَʿamiladoes
صَـٰلِحًۭاṣāliḥanrighteousness
فَلِأَنفُسِهِمْfali-anfusihimthen for themselves
يَمْهَدُونَyamhadūnathey are preparing

Translation

Whoever disbelieves then against him (is) his disbelief And whoever does righteousness then for themselves they are preparing

Verse 45

لِيَجْزِىَliyajziyaThat He may reward
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
مِنmin(out) of
فَضْلِهِۦٓ ۚfaḍlihiHis Bounty
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, He
لَاlā(does) not
يُحِبُّyuḥibbulike
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelievers

Translation

That He may reward those who believe and do righteous deeds (out) of His Bounty Indeed, He (does) not like the disbelievers

Verse 46

وَمِنْwaminAnd among
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓāyātihiHis Signs
أَنan(is) that
يُرْسِلَyur'silaHe sends
ٱلرِّيَاحَl-riyāḥathe winds
مُبَشِّرَٰتٍۢmubashirātin(as) bearers of glad tidings
وَلِيُذِيقَكُمwaliyudhīqakumand to let you taste
مِّنminof
رَّحْمَتِهِۦraḥmatihiHis Mercy
وَلِتَجْرِىَwalitajriyaand that may sail
ٱلْفُلْكُl-ful'kuthe ships
بِأَمْرِهِۦbi-amrihiat His Command
وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟walitabtaghūand that you may seek
مِنminof
فَضْلِهِۦfaḍlihiHis Bounty
وَلَعَلَّكُمْwalaʿallakumand that you may
تَشْكُرُونَtashkurūnabe grateful

Translation

And among His Signs (is) that He sends the winds (as) bearers of glad tidings and to let you taste of His Mercy and that may sail the ships at His Command and that you may seek of His Bounty and that you may be grateful

Verse 47

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd verily
أَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sent
مِنminbefore you
قَبْلِكَqablikabefore you
رُسُلًاrusulanMessengers
إِلَىٰilāto
قَوْمِهِمْqawmihimtheir people
فَجَآءُوهُمfajāūhumand they came to them
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِbil-bayinātiwith clear proofs
فَٱنتَقَمْنَاfa-intaqamnāthen We took retribution
مِنَminafrom
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
أَجْرَمُوا۟ ۖajramūcommitted crimes
وَكَانَwakānaAnd it was
حَقًّاḥaqqanincumbent
عَلَيْنَاʿalaynāupon Us
نَصْرُnaṣru(to) help
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers

Translation

And verily We sent before you before you Messengers to their people and they came to them with clear proofs then We took retribution from those who committed crimes And it was incumbent upon Us (to) help the believers

Verse 48

ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllah
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Who
يُرْسِلُyur'silusends
ٱلرِّيَـٰحَl-riyāḥathe winds
فَتُثِيرُfatuthīruso they raise
سَحَابًۭاsaḥāban(the) clouds
فَيَبْسُطُهُۥfayabsuṭuhuthen He spreads them
فِىfīin
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe sky
كَيْفَkayfahow
يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
وَيَجْعَلُهُۥwayajʿaluhuand He makes them
كِسَفًۭاkisafanfragments
فَتَرَىfatarāso you see
ٱلْوَدْقَl-wadqathe rain
يَخْرُجُyakhrujucoming forth
مِنْminfrom
خِلَـٰلِهِۦ ۖkhilālihitheir midst
فَإِذَآfa-idhāThen when
أَصَابَaṣābaHe causes it to fall on
بِهِۦbihiHe causes it to fall on
مَنmanwhom
يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
مِنْminof
عِبَادِهِۦٓʿibādihiHis slaves
إِذَاidhābehold
هُمْhumThey
يَسْتَبْشِرُونَyastabshirūnarejoice

Translation

Allah (is) the One Who sends the winds so they raise (the) clouds then He spreads them in the sky how He wills and He makes them fragments so you see the rain coming forth from their midst Then when He causes it to fall on He causes it to fall on whom He wills of His slaves behold They rejoice

Verse 49

وَإِنwa-inAnd certainly
كَانُوا۟kānūthey were
مِنminbefore
قَبْلِqablibefore
أَنan[that]
يُنَزَّلَyunazzalait was sent down
عَلَيْهِمʿalayhimupon them
مِّنmin[before it]
قَبْلِهِۦqablihi[before it]
لَمُبْلِسِينَlamub'lisīnasurely in despair

Translation

And certainly they were before before [that] it was sent down upon them [before it] [before it] surely in despair

Verse 50

فَٱنظُرْfa-unẓurSo look
إِلَىٰٓilāat
ءَاثَـٰرِāthāri(the) effects
رَحْمَتِraḥmati(of the) Mercy
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
كَيْفَkayfahow
يُحْىِyuḥ'yīHe gives life
ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍa(to) the earth
بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
مَوْتِهَآ ۚmawtihāits death
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
لَمُحْىِlamuḥ'yīsurely He (will) give life
ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ ۖl-mawtā(to) the dead
وَهُوَwahuwaAnd He
عَلَىٰʿalā(is) on
كُلِّkullievery
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
قَدِيرٌۭqadīrunAll-Powerful

Translation

So look at (the) effects (of the) Mercy (of) Allah how He gives life (to) the earth after its death Indeed that surely He (will) give life (to) the dead And He (is) on every thing All-Powerful

Verse 51

وَلَئِنْwala-inBut if
أَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sent
رِيحًۭاrīḥana wind
فَرَأَوْهُfara-awhuand they see it
مُصْفَرًّۭاmuṣ'farranturn yellow
لَّظَلُّوا۟laẓallūcertainly they continue
مِنۢminafter it
بَعْدِهِۦbaʿdihiafter it
يَكْفُرُونَyakfurūna(in) disbelief

Translation

But if We sent a wind and they see it turn yellow certainly they continue after it after it (in) disbelief

Verse 52

فَإِنَّكَfa-innakaSo indeed, you
لَاlā(can) not
تُسْمِعُtus'miʿumake the dead hear
ٱلْمَوْتَىٰl-mawtāmake the dead hear
وَلَاwalāand not
تُسْمِعُtus'miʿumake the deaf hear
ٱلصُّمَّl-ṣumamake the deaf hear
ٱلدُّعَآءَl-duʿāathe call
إِذَاidhāwhen
وَلَّوْا۟wallawthey turn
مُدْبِرِينَmud'birīnaretreating

Translation

So indeed, you (can) not make the dead hear make the dead hear and not make the deaf hear make the deaf hear the call when they turn retreating

Verse 53

وَمَآwamāAnd not
أَنتَantayou
بِهَـٰدِbihādican guide
ٱلْعُمْىِl-ʿum'yithe blind
عَنʿanfrom
ضَلَـٰلَتِهِمْ ۖḍalālatihimtheir error
إِنinNot
تُسْمِعُtus'miʿuyou can make hear
إِلَّاillāexcept
مَنman(those) who
يُؤْمِنُyu'minubelieve
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاbiāyātināin Our Verses
فَهُمfahumso they
مُّسْلِمُونَmus'limūnasurrender

Translation

And not you can guide the blind from their error Not you can make hear except (those) who believe in Our Verses so they surrender

Verse 54

۞ ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllah
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Who
خَلَقَكُمkhalaqakumcreated you
مِّنminfrom
ضَعْفٍۢḍaʿfinweakness
ثُمَّthummathen
جَعَلَjaʿalamade
مِنۢminafter
بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
ضَعْفٍۢḍaʿfinweakness
قُوَّةًۭquwwatanstrength
ثُمَّthummathen
جَعَلَjaʿalamade
مِنۢminafter
بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
قُوَّةٍۢquwwatinstrength
ضَعْفًۭاḍaʿfanweakness
وَشَيْبَةًۭ ۚwashaybatanand gray hair
يَخْلُقُyakhluquHe creates
مَاmāwhat
يَشَآءُ ۖyashāuHe wills
وَهُوَwahuwaand He
ٱلْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmu(is) the All-Knower
ٱلْقَدِيرُl-qadīruthe All-Powerful

Translation

Allah (is) the One Who created you from weakness then made after after weakness strength then made after after strength weakness and gray hair He creates what He wills and He (is) the All-Knower the All-Powerful

Verse 55

وَيَوْمَwayawmaAnd (the) Day
تَقُومُtaqūmuwill (be) established
ٱلسَّاعَةُl-sāʿatuthe Hour
يُقْسِمُyuq'simuwill swear
ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَl-muj'rimūnathe criminals
مَاmānot
لَبِثُوا۟labithūthey remained
غَيْرَghayrabut
سَاعَةٍۢ ۚsāʿatinan hour
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
كَانُوا۟kānūthey were
يُؤْفَكُونَyu'fakūnadeluded

Translation

And (the) Day will (be) established the Hour will swear the criminals not they remained but an hour Thus they were deluded

Verse 56

وَقَالَwaqālaBut will say
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
أُوتُوا۟ūtūwere given
ٱلْعِلْمَl-ʿil'mathe knowledge
وَٱلْإِيمَـٰنَwal-īmānaand the faith
لَقَدْlaqadVerily
لَبِثْتُمْlabith'tumyou remained
فِىfīby
كِتَـٰبِkitābi(the) Decree
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
إِلَىٰilāuntil
يَوْمِyawmi(the) Day
ٱلْبَعْثِ ۖl-baʿthi(of) Resurrection
فَهَـٰذَاfahādhāAnd this
يَوْمُyawmu(is the) Day
ٱلْبَعْثِl-baʿthi(of) the Resurrection
وَلَـٰكِنَّكُمْwalākinnakumbut you
كُنتُمْkuntumwere
لَاlānot
تَعْلَمُونَtaʿlamūnaknowing

Translation

But will say those who were given the knowledge and the faith Verily you remained by (the) Decree (of) Allah until (the) Day (of) Resurrection And this (is the) Day (of) the Resurrection but you were not knowing

Verse 57

فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢfayawma-idhinSo that Day
لَّاlānot
يَنفَعُyanfaʿuwill profit
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ظَلَمُوا۟ẓalamūwronged
مَعْذِرَتُهُمْmaʿdhiratuhumtheir excuses
وَلَاwalāand not
هُمْhumthey
يُسْتَعْتَبُونَyus'taʿtabūnawill be allowed to make amends

Translation

So that Day not will profit those who wronged their excuses and not they will be allowed to make amends

Verse 58

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd verily
ضَرَبْنَاḍarabnāWe (have) set forth
لِلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor mankind
فِىfīin
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
ٱلْقُرْءَانِl-qur'āni[the] Quran
مِنminof
كُلِّkullievery
مَثَلٍۢ ۚmathalinexample
وَلَئِنwala-inBut if
جِئْتَهُمji'tahumyou bring them
بِـَٔايَةٍۢbiāyatina sign
لَّيَقُولَنَّlayaqūlannasurely will say
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوٓا۟kafarūdisbelieve
إِنْinNot
أَنتُمْantumyou
إِلَّاillā(are) except
مُبْطِلُونَmub'ṭilūnafalsifiers

Translation

And verily We (have) set forth for mankind in this [the] Quran of every example But if you bring them a sign surely will say those who disbelieve Not you (are) except falsifiers

Verse 59

كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
يَطْبَعُyaṭbaʿuAllah seals
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah seals
عَلَىٰʿalā[on]
قُلُوبِqulūbi(the) hearts
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those who
لَاlā(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow

Translation

Thus Allah seals Allah seals [on] (the) hearts (of) those who (do) not know

Verse 60

فَٱصْبِرْfa-iṣ'birSo be patient
إِنَّinnaIndeed
وَعْدَwaʿda(the) Promise
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
حَقٌّۭ ۖḥaqqun(is) true
وَلَاwalāAnd (let) not
يَسْتَخِفَّنَّكَyastakhiffannakatake you in light estimation
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
لَاlā(are) not
يُوقِنُونَyūqinūnacertain in faith

Translation

So be patient Indeed (the) Promise (of) Allah (is) true And (let) not take you in light estimation those who (are) not certain in faith
