Verse 1

الٓمٓalif-lam-meemAlif Lam Meem

Translation

Alif Lam Meem

Verse 2

تَنزِيلُtanzīlu(The) revelation
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
لَا(there is) no
رَيْبَraybadoubt
فِيهِfīhiabout it
مِنminfrom
رَّبِّrabbi(the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds

Translation

(The) revelation (of) the Book (there is) no doubt about it from (the) Lord (of) the worlds

Verse 3

أَمْamOr
يَقُولُونَyaqūlūna(do) they say
ٱفْتَرَىٰهُ ۚif'tarāhuHe invented it
بَلْbalNay
هُوَhuwait
ٱلْحَقُّl-ḥaqu(is) the truth
مِنminfrom
رَّبِّكَrabbikayour Lord
لِتُنذِرَlitundhirathat you may warn
قَوْمًۭاqawmana people
مَّآnot
أَتَىٰهُمatāhumhas come to them
مِّنminany
نَّذِيرٍۢnadhīrinwarner
مِّنminbefore you
قَبْلِكَqablikabefore you
لَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumso that they may
يَهْتَدُونَyahtadūnabe guided

Translation

Or (do) they say He invented it Nay it (is) the truth from your Lord that you may warn a people not has come to them any warner before you before you so that they may be guided

Verse 4

ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllah
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Who
خَلَقَkhalaqacreated
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earth
وَمَاwamāand whatever
بَيْنَهُمَاbaynahumā(is) between them
فِىin
سِتَّةِsittatisix
أَيَّامٍۢayyāminperiods
ثُمَّthummaThen
ٱسْتَوَىٰis'tawāestablished Himself
عَلَىʿalāon
ٱلْعَرْشِ ۖl-ʿarshithe Throne
مَاNot
لَكُمlakumfor you
مِّنminbesides Him
دُونِهِۦdūnihibesides Him
مِنminany
وَلِىٍّۢwaliyyinprotector
وَلَاwalāand not
شَفِيعٍ ۚshafīʿinany intercessor
أَفَلَاafalāThen will not
تَتَذَكَّرُونَtatadhakkarūnayou take heed

Translation

Allah (is) the One Who created the heavens and the earth and whatever (is) between them in six periods Then established Himself on the Throne Not for you besides Him besides Him any protector and not any intercessor Then will not you take heed

Verse 5

يُدَبِّرُyudabbiruHe regulates
ٱلْأَمْرَl-amrathe affair
مِنَminaof
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe heaven
إِلَىilāto
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
ثُمَّthummathen
يَعْرُجُyaʿrujuit will ascend
إِلَيْهِilayhito Him
فِىin
يَوْمٍۢyawmina Day
كَانَkāna(the) measure of which is
مِقْدَارُهُۥٓmiq'dāruhu(the) measure of which is
أَلْفَalfaa thousand
سَنَةٍۢsanatinyears
مِّمَّاmimmāof what
تَعُدُّونَtaʿuddūnayou count

Translation

He regulates the affair of the heaven to the earth then it will ascend to Him in a Day (the) measure of which is (the) measure of which is a thousand years of what you count

Verse 6

ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
عَـٰلِمُʿālimu(is the) Knower
ٱلْغَيْبِl-ghaybi(of) the hidden
وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِwal-shahādatiand the witnessed
ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe All-Mighty
ٱلرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuthe Most Merciful

Translation

That (is the) Knower (of) the hidden and the witnessed the All-Mighty the Most Merciful

Verse 7

ٱلَّذِىٓalladhīThe One Who
أَحْسَنَaḥsanamade good
كُلَّkullaevery
شَىْءٍshayinthing
خَلَقَهُۥ ۖkhalaqahuHe created
وَبَدَأَwabada-aand He began
خَلْقَkhalqa(the) creation
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنِl-insāni(of) man
مِنminfrom
طِينٍۢṭīninclay

Translation

The One Who made good every thing He created and He began (the) creation (of) man from clay

Verse 8

ثُمَّthummaThen
جَعَلَjaʿalaHe made
نَسْلَهُۥnaslahuhis progeny
مِنminfrom
سُلَـٰلَةٍۢsulālatinan extract
مِّنminof
مَّآءٍۢmāinwater
مَّهِينٍۢmahīnindespised

Translation

Then He made his progeny from an extract of water despised

Verse 9

ثُمَّthummaThen
سَوَّىٰهُsawwāhuHe fashioned him
وَنَفَخَwanafakhaand breathed
فِيهِfīhiinto him
مِنminfrom
رُّوحِهِۦ ۖrūḥihiHis spirit
وَجَعَلَwajaʿalaand made
لَكُمُlakumufor you
ٱلسَّمْعَl-samʿathe hearing
وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَwal-abṣāraand the sight
وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ ۚwal-afidataand feelings
قَلِيلًۭاqalīlanlittle
مَّا[what]
تَشْكُرُونَtashkurūnathanks you give

Translation

Then He fashioned him and breathed into him from His spirit and made for you the hearing and the sight and feelings little [what] thanks you give

Verse 10

وَقَالُوٓا۟waqālūAnd they say
أَءِذَاa-idhāIs (it) when
ضَلَلْنَاḍalalnāwe are lost
فِىin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
أَءِنَّاa-innāwill we
لَفِىlafīcertainly be in
خَلْقٍۢkhalqina creation
جَدِيدٍۭ ۚjadīdinnew
بَلْbalNay
هُمhumthey
بِلِقَآءِbiliqāiin (the) meeting
رَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) their Lord
كَـٰفِرُونَkāfirūna(are) disbelievers

Translation

And they say Is (it) when we are lost in the earth will we certainly be in a creation new Nay they in (the) meeting (of) their Lord (are) disbelievers

Verse 11

۞ قُلْqulSay
يَتَوَفَّىٰكُمyatawaffākumWill take your soul
مَّلَكُmalaku(the) Angel
ٱلْمَوْتِl-mawti(of) the death
ٱلَّذِىalladhīthe one who
وُكِّلَwukkilahas been put in charge
بِكُمْbikumof you
ثُمَّthummaThen
إِلَىٰilāto
رَبِّكُمْrabbikumyour Lord
تُرْجَعُونَtur'jaʿūnayou will be returned

Translation

Say Will take your soul (the) Angel (of) the death the one who has been put in charge of you Then to your Lord you will be returned

Verse 12

وَلَوْwalawAnd if
تَرَىٰٓtarāyou (could) see
إِذِidhiwhen
ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَl-muj'rimūnathe criminals
نَاكِسُوا۟nākisū(will) hang
رُءُوسِهِمْruūsihimtheir heads
عِندَʿindabefore
رَبِّهِمْrabbihimtheir Lord
رَبَّنَآrabbanāOur Lord
أَبْصَرْنَاabṣarnāwe have seen
وَسَمِعْنَاwasamiʿ'nāand we have heard
فَٱرْجِعْنَاfa-ir'jiʿ'nāso return us
نَعْمَلْnaʿmalwe will do
صَـٰلِحًاṣāliḥanrighteous (deeds)
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, we
مُوقِنُونَmūqinūna(are now) certain

Translation

And if you (could) see when the criminals (will) hang their heads before their Lord Our Lord we have seen and we have heard so return us we will do righteous (deeds) Indeed, we (are now) certain

Verse 13

وَلَوْwalawAnd if
شِئْنَاshi'nāWe (had) willed
لَـَٔاتَيْنَاlaātaynāsurely We (would) have given
كُلَّkullaevery
نَفْسٍnafsinsoul
هُدَىٰهَاhudāhāits guidance
وَلَـٰكِنْwalākinbut
حَقَّḥaqqa(is) true
ٱلْقَوْلُl-qawluthe Word
مِنِّىminnīfrom Me
لَأَمْلَأَنَّla-amla-annathat I will surely fill
جَهَنَّمَjahannamaHell
مِنَminawith
ٱلْجِنَّةِl-jinatithe jinn
وَٱلنَّاسِwal-nāsiand the men
أَجْمَعِينَajmaʿīnatogether

Translation

And if We (had) willed surely We (would) have given every soul its guidance but (is) true the Word from Me that I will surely fill Hell with the jinn and the men together

Verse 14

فَذُوقُوا۟fadhūqūSo taste
بِمَاbimābecause
نَسِيتُمْnasītumyou forgot
لِقَآءَliqāa(the) meeting
يَوْمِكُمْyawmikum(of) this Day of yours
هَـٰذَآhādhā(of) this Day of yours
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, We
نَسِينَـٰكُمْ ۖnasīnākumhave forgotten you
وَذُوقُوا۟wadhūqūAnd taste
عَذَابَʿadhāba(the) punishment
ٱلْخُلْدِl-khul'di(of) eternity
بِمَاbimāfor what
كُنتُمْkuntumyou used (to)
تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnado

Translation

So taste because you forgot (the) meeting (of) this Day of yours (of) this Day of yours Indeed, We have forgotten you And taste (the) punishment (of) eternity for what you used (to) do

Verse 15

إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
يُؤْمِنُyu'minubelieve
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاbiāyātināin Our Verses
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
إِذَاidhāwhen
ذُكِّرُوا۟dhukkirūthey are reminded
بِهَاbihāof them
خَرُّوا۟kharrūfall down
سُجَّدًۭاsujjadanprostrating
وَسَبَّحُوا۟wasabbaḥūand glorify
بِحَمْدِbiḥamdi(the) praises
رَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) their Lord
وَهُمْwahumand they
لَاare not arrogant
يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ ۩yastakbirūnaare not arrogant

Translation

Only believe in Our Verses those who when they are reminded of them fall down prostrating and glorify (the) praises (of) their Lord and they are not arrogant are not arrogant

Verse 16

تَتَجَافَىٰtatajāfāForsake
جُنُوبُهُمْjunūbuhumtheir sides
عَنِʿanifrom
ٱلْمَضَاجِعِl-maḍājiʿi(their) beds
يَدْعُونَyadʿūnathey call
رَبَّهُمْrabbahumtheir Lord
خَوْفًۭاkhawfan(in) fear
وَطَمَعًۭاwaṭamaʿanand hope
وَمِمَّاwamimmāand out of what
رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْrazaqnāhumWe have provided them
يُنفِقُونَyunfiqūnathey spend

Translation

Forsake their sides from (their) beds they call their Lord (in) fear and hope and out of what We have provided them they spend

Verse 17

فَلَاfalāAnd not
تَعْلَمُtaʿlamuknows
نَفْسٌۭnafsuna soul
مَّآwhat
أُخْفِىَukh'fiyais hidden
لَهُمlahumfor them
مِّنminof
قُرَّةِqurrati(the) comfort
أَعْيُنٍۢaʿyunin(for) the eyes
جَزَآءًۢjazāan(as) a reward
بِمَاbimāfor what
كَانُوا۟kānūthey used (to)
يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnado

Translation

And not knows a soul what is hidden for them of (the) comfort (for) the eyes (as) a reward for what they used (to) do

Verse 18

أَفَمَنafamanThen is one who
كَانَkānais
مُؤْمِنًۭاmu'minana believer
كَمَنkamanlike (him) who
كَانَkānais
فَاسِقًۭا ۚfāsiqandefiantly disobedient
لَّاNot
يَسْتَوُۥنَyastawūnathey are equal

Translation

Then is one who is a believer like (him) who is defiantly disobedient Not they are equal

Verse 19

أَمَّاammāAs for
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
فَلَهُمْfalahumthen for them
جَنَّـٰتُjannātu(are) Gardens
ٱلْمَأْوَىٰl-mawā(of) Refuge
نُزُلًۢاnuzulan(as) hospitality
بِمَاbimāfor what
كَانُوا۟kānūthey used (to)
يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnado

Translation

As for those who believe and do righteous deeds then for them (are) Gardens (of) Refuge (as) hospitality for what they used (to) do

Verse 20

وَأَمَّاwa-ammāBut as for
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
فَسَقُوا۟fasaqūare defiantly disobedient
فَمَأْوَىٰهُمُfamawāhumuthen their refuge
ٱلنَّارُ ۖl-nāru(is) the Fire
كُلَّمَآkullamāEvery time
أَرَادُوٓا۟arādūthey wish
أَنanto
يَخْرُجُوا۟yakhrujūcome out
مِنْهَآmin'hāfrom it
أُعِيدُوا۟uʿīdūthey (will) be returned
فِيهَاfīhāin it
وَقِيلَwaqīlaand it (will) be said
لَهُمْlahumto them
ذُوقُوا۟dhūqūTaste
عَذَابَʿadhāba(the) punishment
ٱلنَّارِl-nāri(of) the Fire
ٱلَّذِىalladhīwhich
كُنتُمkuntumyou used (to)
بِهِۦbihi[in it]
تُكَذِّبُونَtukadhibūnadeny

Translation

But as for those who are defiantly disobedient then their refuge (is) the Fire Every time they wish to come out from it they (will) be returned in it and it (will) be said to them Taste (the) punishment (of) the Fire which you used (to) [in it] deny

Verse 21

وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُمwalanudhīqannahumAnd surely, We will let them taste
مِّنَminaof
ٱلْعَذَابِl-ʿadhābithe punishment
ٱلْأَدْنَىٰl-adnāthe nearer
دُونَdūnabefore
ٱلْعَذَابِl-ʿadhābithe punishment
ٱلْأَكْبَرِl-akbarithe greater
لَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumso that they may
يَرْجِعُونَyarjiʿūnareturn

Translation

And surely, We will let them taste of the punishment the nearer before the punishment the greater so that they may return

Verse 22

وَمَنْwamanAnd who
أَظْلَمُaẓlamu(is) more unjust
مِمَّنmimmanthan (he) who
ذُكِّرَdhukkirais reminded
بِـَٔايَـٰتِbiāyātiof (the) Verses
رَبِّهِۦrabbihi(of) his Lord
ثُمَّthummathen
أَعْرَضَaʿraḍahe turns away
عَنْهَآ ۚʿanhāfrom them
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, We
مِنَminafrom
ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَl-muj'rimīnathe criminals
مُنتَقِمُونَmuntaqimūna(will) take retribution

Translation

And who (is) more unjust than (he) who is reminded of (the) Verses (of) his Lord then he turns away from them Indeed, We from the criminals (will) take retribution

Verse 23

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainly
ءَاتَيْنَاātaynāWe gave
مُوسَىmūsāMusa
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Scripture
فَلَاfalāso (do) not
تَكُنtakunbe
فِىin
مِرْيَةٍۢmir'yatindoubt
مِّنminabout
لِّقَآئِهِۦ ۖliqāihireceiving it
وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُwajaʿalnāhuAnd We made it
هُدًۭىhudana guide
لِّبَنِىٓlibanīfor the Children of Israel
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīlafor the Children of Israel

Translation

And certainly We gave Musa the Scripture so (do) not be in doubt about receiving it And We made it a guide for the Children of Israel for the Children of Israel

Verse 24

وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāAnd We made
مِنْهُمْmin'humfrom them
أَئِمَّةًۭa-immatanleaders
يَهْدُونَyahdūnaguiding
بِأَمْرِنَاbi-amrināby Our Command
لَمَّاlammāwhen
صَبَرُوا۟ ۖṣabarūthey were patient
وَكَانُوا۟wakānūand they were
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاbiāyātināof Our Verses
يُوقِنُونَyūqinūnacertain

Translation

And We made from them leaders guiding by Our Command when they were patient and they were of Our Verses certain

Verse 25

إِنَّinnaIndeed
رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lord
هُوَhuwa[He]
يَفْصِلُyafṣiluwill judge
بَيْنَهُمْbaynahumbetween them
يَوْمَyawma(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmati(of) Resurrection
فِيمَاfīmāin what
كَانُوا۟kānūthey used (to)
فِيهِfīhi[in it]
يَخْتَلِفُونَyakhtalifūnadiffer

Translation

Indeed your Lord [He] will judge between them (on the) Day (of) Resurrection in what they used (to) [in it] differ

Verse 26

أَوَلَمْawalamDoes it not
يَهْدِyahdiguide
لَهُمْlahum[for] them
كَمْkam(that) how many
أَهْلَكْنَاahlaknāWe have destroyed
مِنminbefore them
قَبْلِهِمqablihimbefore them
مِّنَminaof
ٱلْقُرُونِl-qurūnithe generations
يَمْشُونَyamshūnathey walk about
فِىin
مَسَـٰكِنِهِمْ ۚmasākinihimtheir dwellings
إِنَّinnaIndeed
فِىin
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ ۖlaāyātinsurely, are Signs
أَفَلَاafalāThen do not
يَسْمَعُونَyasmaʿūnathey hear

Translation

Does it not guide [for] them (that) how many We have destroyed before them before them of the generations they walk about in their dwellings Indeed in that surely, are Signs Then do not they hear

Verse 27

أَوَلَمْawalamDo not
يَرَوْا۟yarawthey see
أَنَّاannāthat We
نَسُوقُnasūqudrive
ٱلْمَآءَl-māawater
إِلَىilāto
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe land
ٱلْجُرُزِl-juruzi[the] barren
فَنُخْرِجُfanukh'rijuthen We bring forth
بِهِۦbihithereby
زَرْعًۭاzarʿancrops
تَأْكُلُtakulueat
مِنْهُmin'hufrom it
أَنْعَـٰمُهُمْanʿāmuhumtheir cattle
وَأَنفُسُهُمْ ۖwa-anfusuhumand they themselves
أَفَلَاafalāThen do not
يُبْصِرُونَyub'ṣirūnathey see

Translation

Do not they see that We drive water to the land [the] barren then We bring forth thereby crops eat from it their cattle and they themselves Then do not they see

Verse 28

وَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaAnd they say
مَتَىٰmatāWhen (will be)
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
ٱلْفَتْحُl-fatḥudecision
إِنinif
كُنتُمْkuntumyou are
صَـٰدِقِينَṣādiqīnatruthful

Translation

And they say When (will be) this decision if you are truthful

Verse 29

قُلْqulSay
يَوْمَyawma(On the) Day
ٱلْفَتْحِl-fatḥi(of) the Decision
لَاnot
يَنفَعُyanfaʿuwill benefit
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوٓا۟kafarūdisbelieve
إِيمَـٰنُهُمْīmānuhumtheir belief
وَلَاwalāand not
هُمْhumthey
يُنظَرُونَyunẓarūnawill be granted respite

Translation

Say (On the) Day (of) the Decision not will benefit those who disbelieve their belief and not they will be granted respite

Verse 30

فَأَعْرِضْfa-aʿriḍSo turn away
عَنْهُمْʿanhumfrom them
وَٱنتَظِرْwa-intaẓirand wait
إِنَّهُمinnahumIndeed, they
مُّنتَظِرُونَmuntaẓirūna(are) waiting

Translation

So turn away from them and wait Indeed, they (are) waiting
