Verse 1

حمٓhha-meemHa Meem

Translation

Ha Meem

Verse 2

وَٱلْكِتَـٰبِwal-kitābiBy the Book
ٱلْمُبِينِl-mubīnithe clear

Translation

By the Book the clear

Verse 3

إِنَّآinnāIndeed, We
أَنزَلْنَـٰهُanzalnāhurevealed it
فِىin
لَيْلَةٍۢlaylatina Night
مُّبَـٰرَكَةٍ ۚmubārakatinBlessed
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, We
كُنَّاkunnā[We] are
مُنذِرِينَmundhirīna(ever) warning

Translation

Indeed, We revealed it in a Night Blessed Indeed, We [We] are (ever) warning

Verse 4

فِيهَاfīhāTherein
يُفْرَقُyuf'raquis made distinct
كُلُّkulluevery
أَمْرٍamrinaffair
حَكِيمٍḥakīminwise

Translation

Therein is made distinct every affair wise

Verse 5

أَمْرًۭاamranA command
مِّنْminfrom
عِندِنَآ ۚʿindināUs
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, We
كُنَّاkunnā[We] are
مُرْسِلِينَmur'silīna(ever) sending

Translation

A command from Us Indeed, We [We] are (ever) sending

Verse 6

رَحْمَةًۭraḥmatanAs Mercy
مِّنminfrom
رَّبِّكَ ۚrabbikayour Lord
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, He
هُوَhuwa[He]
ٱلسَّمِيعُl-samīʿu(is) the All-Hearer
ٱلْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmuthe All-Knower

Translation

As Mercy from your Lord Indeed, He [He] (is) the All-Hearer the All-Knower

Verse 7

رَبِّrabbiLord
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth
وَمَاwamāand whatever
بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖbaynahumā(is) between both of them
إِنinif
كُنتُمkuntumyou are
مُّوقِنِينَmūqinīnacertain

Translation

Lord (of) the heavens and the earth and whatever (is) between both of them if you are certain

Verse 8

لَآ(There is) no
إِلَـٰهَilāhagod
إِلَّاillāexcept
هُوَhuwaHim
يُحْىِۦyuḥ'yīHe gives life
وَيُمِيتُ ۖwayumītuand causes death
رَبُّكُمْrabbukumyour Lord
وَرَبُّwarabbuand (the) Lord
ءَابَآئِكُمُābāikumu(of) your fathers
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīnathe former

Translation

(There is) no god except Him He gives life and causes death your Lord and (the) Lord (of) your fathers the former

Verse 9

بَلْbalNay
هُمْhumthey
فِى(are) in
شَكٍّۢshakkindoubt
يَلْعَبُونَyalʿabūnaplaying

Translation

Nay they (are) in doubt playing

Verse 10

فَٱرْتَقِبْfa-ir'taqibThen watch
يَوْمَyawma(for the) Day
تَأْتِىtatī(when) will bring
ٱلسَّمَآءُl-samāuthe sky
بِدُخَانٍۢbidukhāninsmoke
مُّبِينٍۢmubīninvisible

Translation

Then watch (for the) Day (when) will bring the sky smoke visible

Verse 11

يَغْشَىyaghshāEnveloping
ٱلنَّاسَ ۖl-nāsathe people
هَـٰذَاhādhāThis
عَذَابٌʿadhābun(will be) a punishment
أَلِيمٌۭalīmunpainful

Translation

Enveloping the people This (will be) a punishment painful

Verse 12

رَّبَّنَاrabbanāOur Lord
ٱكْشِفْik'shifRemove
عَنَّاʿannāfrom us
ٱلْعَذَابَl-ʿadhābathe punishment
إِنَّاinnāindeed, we
مُؤْمِنُونَmu'minūna(are) believers

Translation

Our Lord Remove from us the punishment indeed, we (are) believers

Verse 13

أَنَّىٰannāHow can
لَهُمُlahumu(there be) for them
ٱلذِّكْرَىٰl-dhik'rāthe reminder
وَقَدْwaqadwhen verily
جَآءَهُمْjāahumhad come to them
رَسُولٌۭrasūluna Messenger
مُّبِينٌۭmubīnunclear

Translation

How can (there be) for them the reminder when verily had come to them a Messenger clear

Verse 14

ثُمَّthummaThen
تَوَلَّوْا۟tawallawthey turned away
عَنْهُʿanhufrom him
وَقَالُوا۟waqālūand said
مُعَلَّمٌۭmuʿallamunOne taught
مَّجْنُونٌmajnūnuna mad man

Translation

Then they turned away from him and said One taught a mad man

Verse 15

إِنَّاinnāIndeed, We
كَاشِفُوا۟kāshifū(will) remove
ٱلْعَذَابِl-ʿadhābithe punishment
قَلِيلًا ۚqalīlana little
إِنَّكُمْinnakumindeed, you
عَآئِدُونَʿāidūna(will) return

Translation

Indeed, We (will) remove the punishment a little indeed, you (will) return

Verse 16

يَوْمَyawma(The) Day
نَبْطِشُnabṭishuWe will seize
ٱلْبَطْشَةَl-baṭshata(with) the seizure
ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓl-kub'rāthe greatest
إِنَّاinnāindeed, We
مُنتَقِمُونَmuntaqimūna(will) take retribution

Translation

(The) Day We will seize (with) the seizure the greatest indeed, We (will) take retribution

Verse 17

۞ وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainly
فَتَنَّاfatannāWe tried
قَبْلَهُمْqablahumbefore them
قَوْمَqawma(the) people
فِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawna(of) Firaun
وَجَآءَهُمْwajāahumand came to them
رَسُولٌۭrasūluna Messenger
كَرِيمٌkarīmunnoble

Translation

And certainly We tried before them (the) people (of) Firaun and came to them a Messenger noble

Verse 18

أَنْanThat
أَدُّوٓا۟addūDeliver
إِلَىَّilayyato me
عِبَادَʿibāda(the) servants
ٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahi(of) Allah
إِنِّىinnīIndeed, I am
لَكُمْlakumto you
رَسُولٌrasūluna Messenger
أَمِينٌۭamīnuntrustworthy

Translation

That Deliver to me (the) servants (of) Allah Indeed, I am to you a Messenger trustworthy

Verse 19

وَأَنwa-anAnd that
لَّا(do) not
تَعْلُوا۟taʿlūexalt yourselves
عَلَىʿalāagainst
ٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahiAllah
إِنِّىٓinnīIndeed, I
ءَاتِيكُمātīkum[I] have come to you
بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۢbisul'ṭāninwith an authority
مُّبِينٍۢmubīninclear

Translation

And that (do) not exalt yourselves against Allah Indeed, I [I] have come to you with an authority clear

Verse 20

وَإِنِّىwa-innīAnd indeed, I
عُذْتُʿudh'tu[I] seek refuge
بِرَبِّىbirabbīwith my Lord
وَرَبِّكُمْwarabbikumand your Lord
أَنanlest
تَرْجُمُونِtarjumūniyou stone me

Translation

And indeed, I [I] seek refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me

Verse 21

وَإِنwa-inAnd if
لَّمْlamnot
تُؤْمِنُوا۟tu'minūyou believe
لِىme
فَٱعْتَزِلُونِfa-iʿ'tazilūnithen leave me alone

Translation

And if not you believe me then leave me alone

Verse 22

فَدَعَاfadaʿāSo he called
رَبَّهُۥٓrabbahuhis Lord
أَنَّannaThat
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāithese
قَوْمٌۭqawmun(are) a people
مُّجْرِمُونَmuj'rimūnacriminals

Translation

So he called his Lord That these (are) a people criminals

Verse 23

فَأَسْرِfa-asriThen "Set out
بِعِبَادِىbiʿibādīwith My slaves
لَيْلًاlaylan(by) night
إِنَّكُمinnakumIndeed, you
مُّتَّبَعُونَmuttabaʿūna(will be) followed

Translation

Then "Set out with My slaves (by) night Indeed, you (will be) followed

Verse 24

وَٱتْرُكِwa-ut'rukiAnd leave
ٱلْبَحْرَl-baḥrathe sea
رَهْوًا ۖrahwanat rest
إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, they
جُندٌۭjundun(are) an army
مُّغْرَقُونَmugh'raqūna(to be) drowned

Translation

And leave the sea at rest Indeed, they (are) an army (to be) drowned

Verse 25

كَمْkamHow many
تَرَكُوا۟tarakū(did) they leave
مِنminof
جَنَّـٰتٍۢjannātingardens
وَعُيُونٍۢwaʿuyūninand springs

Translation

How many (did) they leave of gardens and springs

Verse 26

وَزُرُوعٍۢwazurūʿinAnd cornfields
وَمَقَامٍۢwamaqāminand places
كَرِيمٍۢkarīminnoble

Translation

And cornfields and places noble

Verse 27

وَنَعْمَةٍۢwanaʿmatinAnd pleasant things
كَانُوا۟kānūthey used to
فِيهَاfīhātherein
فَـٰكِهِينَfākihīnatake delight

Translation

And pleasant things they used to therein take delight

Verse 28

كَذَٰلِكَ ۖkadhālikaThus
وَأَوْرَثْنَـٰهَاwa-awrathnāhāAnd We made it (an) inherit(ance)
قَوْمًاqawman(for) a people
ءَاخَرِينَākharīnaanother

Translation

Thus And We made it (an) inherit(ance) (for) a people another

Verse 29

فَمَاfamāAnd not
بَكَتْbakatwept
عَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimufor them
ٱلسَّمَآءُl-samāuthe heaven
وَٱلْأَرْضُwal-arḍuand the earth
وَمَاwamāand not
كَانُوا۟kānūthey were
مُنظَرِينَmunẓarīnagiven respite

Translation

And not wept for them the heaven and the earth and not they were given respite

Verse 30

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainly
نَجَّيْنَاnajjaynāWe saved
بَنِىٓbanī(the) Children of Israel
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla(the) Children of Israel
مِنَminafrom
ٱلْعَذَابِl-ʿadhābithe punishment
ٱلْمُهِينِl-muhīnithe humiliating

Translation

And certainly We saved (the) Children of Israel (the) Children of Israel from the punishment the humiliating

Verse 31

مِنminFrom
فِرْعَوْنَ ۚfir'ʿawnaFiraun
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, he
كَانَkānawas
عَالِيًۭاʿāliyanarrogant
مِّنَminaamong
ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَl-mus'rifīnathe transgressors

Translation

From Firaun Indeed, he was arrogant among the transgressors

Verse 32

وَلَقَدِwalaqadiAnd certainly
ٱخْتَرْنَـٰهُمْikh'tarnāhumWe chose them
عَلَىٰʿalāby
عِلْمٍʿil'minknowledge
عَلَىʿalāover
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds

Translation

And certainly We chose them by knowledge over the worlds

Verse 33

وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمwaātaynāhumAnd We gave them
مِّنَminaof
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِl-āyātithe Signs
مَاthat
فِيهِfīhiin it
بَلَـٰٓؤٌۭا۟balāon(was) a trial
مُّبِينٌmubīnunclear

Translation

And We gave them of the Signs that in it (was) a trial clear

Verse 34

إِنَّinnaIndeed
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāithese
لَيَقُولُونَlayaqūlūnasurely, they say

Translation

Indeed these surely, they say

Verse 35

إِنْinNot
هِىَhiyait
إِلَّاillā(is) but
مَوْتَتُنَاmawtatunāour death
ٱلْأُولَىٰl-ūlāthe first
وَمَاwamāand not
نَحْنُnaḥnuwe
بِمُنشَرِينَbimunsharīna(will be) raised again

Translation

Not it (is) but our death the first and not we (will be) raised again

Verse 36

فَأْتُوا۟fatūThen bring
بِـَٔابَآئِنَآbiābāināour forefathers
إِنinif
كُنتُمْkuntumyou are
صَـٰدِقِينَṣādiqīnatruthful

Translation

Then bring our forefathers if you are truthful

Verse 37

أَهُمْahumAre they
خَيْرٌkhayrunbetter
أَمْamor
قَوْمُqawmu(the) people
تُبَّعٍۢtubbaʿin(of) Tubba
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those
مِنminbefore them
قَبْلِهِمْ ۚqablihimbefore them
أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ ۖahlaknāhumWe destroyed them
إِنَّهُمْinnahumindeed, they
كَانُوا۟kānūwere
مُجْرِمِينَmuj'rimīnacriminals

Translation

Are they better or (the) people (of) Tubba and those before them before them We destroyed them indeed, they were criminals

Verse 38

وَمَاwamāAnd not
خَلَقْنَاkhalaqnāWe created
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earth
وَمَاwamāand whatever
بَيْنَهُمَاbaynahumā(is) between them
لَـٰعِبِينَlāʿibīna(in) play

Translation

And not We created the heavens and the earth and whatever (is) between them (in) play

Verse 39

مَاNot
خَلَقْنَـٰهُمَآkhalaqnāhumāWe created both of them
إِلَّاillābut
بِٱلْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin [the] truth
وَلَـٰكِنَّwalākinnabut
أَكْثَرَهُمْaktharahummost of them
لَا(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow

Translation

Not We created both of them but in [the] truth but most of them (do) not know

Verse 40

إِنَّinnaIndeed
يَوْمَyawma(the) Day of Judgment
ٱلْفَصْلِl-faṣli(the) Day of Judgment
مِيقَـٰتُهُمْmīqātuhum(is) an appointed term for them
أَجْمَعِينَajmaʿīnaall

Translation

Indeed (the) Day of Judgment (the) Day of Judgment (is) an appointed term for them all

Verse 41

يَوْمَyawma(The) Day
لَاnot
يُغْنِىyugh'nīwill avail
مَوْلًىmawlana relation
عَنʿanfor
مَّوْلًۭىmawlana relation
شَيْـًۭٔاshayananything
وَلَاwalāand not
هُمْhumthey
يُنصَرُونَyunṣarūnawill be helped

Translation

(The) Day not will avail a relation for a relation anything and not they will be helped

Verse 42

إِلَّاillāExcept
مَنman(on) whom
رَّحِمَraḥimaAllah has mercy
ٱللَّهُ ۚl-lahuAllah has mercy
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, He
هُوَhuwa[He]
ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzu(is) the All-Mighty
ٱلرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuthe Most Merciful

Translation

Except (on) whom Allah has mercy Allah has mercy Indeed, He [He] (is) the All-Mighty the Most Merciful

Verse 43

إِنَّinnaIndeed
شَجَرَتَshajarata(the) tree
ٱلزَّقُّومِl-zaqūmi(of) Zaqqum

Translation

Indeed (the) tree (of) Zaqqum

Verse 44

طَعَامُṭaʿāmu(Will be) food
ٱلْأَثِيمِl-athīmi(of) the sinner(s)

Translation

(Will be) food (of) the sinner(s)

Verse 45

كَٱلْمُهْلِkal-muh'liLike the murky oil
يَغْلِىyaghlīit will boil
فِىin
ٱلْبُطُونِl-buṭūnithe bellies

Translation

Like the murky oil it will boil in the bellies

Verse 46

كَغَلْىِkaghalyiLike boiling
ٱلْحَمِيمِl-ḥamīmi(of) scalding water

Translation

Like boiling (of) scalding water

Verse 47

خُذُوهُkhudhūhuSeize him
فَٱعْتِلُوهُfa-iʿ'tilūhuand drag him
إِلَىٰilāinto
سَوَآءِsawāi(the) midst
ٱلْجَحِيمِl-jaḥīmi(of) the Hellfire

Translation

Seize him and drag him into (the) midst (of) the Hellfire

Verse 48

ثُمَّthummaThen
صُبُّوا۟ṣubbūpour
فَوْقَfawqaover
رَأْسِهِۦrasihihis head
مِنْminof
عَذَابِʿadhābi(the) punishment
ٱلْحَمِيمِl-ḥamīmi(of) the scalding water

Translation

Then pour over his head of (the) punishment (of) the scalding water

Verse 49

ذُقْdhuqTaste
إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, you
أَنتَanta[you] (were)
ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe mighty
ٱلْكَرِيمُl-karīmuthe noble

Translation

Taste Indeed, you [you] (were) the mighty the noble

Verse 50

إِنَّinnaIndeed
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
مَا(is) what
كُنتُمkuntumyou used to
بِهِۦbihi[about it]
تَمْتَرُونَtamtarūnadoubt

Translation

Indeed this (is) what you used to [about it] doubt

Verse 51

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīnathe righteous
فِى(will be) in
مَقَامٍmaqāmina place
أَمِينٍۢamīninsecure

Translation

Indeed the righteous (will be) in a place secure

Verse 52

فِىIn
جَنَّـٰتٍۢjannātingardens
وَعُيُونٍۢwaʿuyūninand springs

Translation

In gardens and springs

Verse 53

يَلْبَسُونَyalbasūnaWearing garments
مِنminof
سُندُسٍۢsundusinfine silk
وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍۢwa-is'tabraqinand heavy silk
مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَmutaqābilīnafacing each other

Translation

Wearing garments of fine silk and heavy silk facing each other

Verse 54

كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
وَزَوَّجْنَـٰهُمwazawwajnāhumAnd We will marry them
بِحُورٍbiḥūrin(to) companions with beautiful eyes
عِينٍۢʿīnin(to) companions with beautiful eyes

Translation

Thus And We will marry them (to) companions with beautiful eyes (to) companions with beautiful eyes

Verse 55

يَدْعُونَyadʿūnaThey will call
فِيهَاfīhātherein
بِكُلِّbikullifor every (kind)
فَـٰكِهَةٍfākihatin(of) fruit
ءَامِنِينَāminīnasecure

Translation

They will call therein for every (kind) (of) fruit secure

Verse 56

لَاNot
يَذُوقُونَyadhūqūnathey will taste
فِيهَاfīhātherein
ٱلْمَوْتَl-mawtathe death
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱلْمَوْتَةَl-mawtatathe death
ٱلْأُولَىٰ ۖl-ūlāthe first
وَوَقَىٰهُمْwawaqāhumAnd He will protect them
عَذَابَʿadhāba(from the) punishment
ٱلْجَحِيمِl-jaḥīmi(of) the Hellfire

Translation

Not they will taste therein the death except the death the first And He will protect them (from the) punishment (of) the Hellfire

Verse 57

فَضْلًۭاfaḍlanA Bounty
مِّنminfrom
رَّبِّكَ ۚrabbikayour Lord
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
هُوَhuwait
ٱلْفَوْزُl-fawzu(will be) the success
ٱلْعَظِيمُl-ʿaẓīmuthe great

Translation

A Bounty from your Lord That it (will be) the success the great

Verse 58

فَإِنَّمَاfa-innamāIndeed
يَسَّرْنَـٰهُyassarnāhuWe have made it easy
بِلِسَانِكَbilisānikain your tongue
لَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumso that they may
يَتَذَكَّرُونَyatadhakkarūnatake heed

Translation

Indeed We have made it easy in your tongue so that they may take heed

Verse 59

فَٱرْتَقِبْfa-ir'taqibSo watch
إِنَّهُمinnahumindeed, they
مُّرْتَقِبُونَmur'taqibūna(too are) watching

Translation

So watch indeed, they (too are) watching
