Chapter 47Medinan38 Verses

Verse 1

ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
وَصَدُّوا۟waṣaddūand turn away
عَنʿanfrom
سَبِيلِsabīli(the) way of Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(the) way of Allah
أَضَلَّaḍallaHe will cause to be lost
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds

Translation

Those who disbelieve and turn away from (the) way of Allah (the) way of Allah He will cause to be lost their deeds

Verse 2

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
وَءَامَنُوا۟waāmanūand believe
بِمَاbimāin what
نُزِّلَnuzzilais revealed
عَلَىٰʿalāto
مُحَمَّدٍۢmuḥammadinMuhammad
وَهُوَwahuwaand it
ٱلْحَقُّl-ḥaqu(is) the truth
مِنminfrom
رَّبِّهِمْ ۙrabbihimtheir Lord
كَفَّرَkaffaraHe will remove
عَنْهُمْʿanhumfrom them
سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْsayyiātihimtheir misdeeds
وَأَصْلَحَwa-aṣlaḥaand improve
بَالَهُمْbālahumtheir condition

Translation

And those who believe and do righteous deeds and believe in what is revealed to Muhammad and it (is) the truth from their Lord He will remove from them their misdeeds and improve their condition

Verse 3

ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
بِأَنَّbi-anna(is) because
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ittabaʿūfollow
ٱلْبَـٰطِلَl-bāṭilafalsehood
وَأَنَّwa-annaand that
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ittabaʿūfollow
ٱلْحَقَّl-ḥaqa(the) truth
مِنminfrom
رَّبِّهِمْ ۚrabbihimtheir Lord
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
يَضْرِبُyaḍribuAllah presents
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah presents
لِلنَّاسِlilnnāsito the people
أَمْثَـٰلَهُمْamthālahumtheir similitudes

Translation

That (is) because those who disbelieve follow falsehood and that those who believe follow (the) truth from their Lord Thus Allah presents Allah presents to the people their similitudes

Verse 4

فَإِذَاfa-idhāSo when
لَقِيتُمُlaqītumuyou meet
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
فَضَرْبَfaḍarbathen strike
ٱلرِّقَابِl-riqābithe necks
حَتَّىٰٓḥattāuntil
إِذَآidhāwhen
أَثْخَنتُمُوهُمْathkhantumūhumyou have subdued them
فَشُدُّوا۟fashuddūthen bind firmly
ٱلْوَثَاقَl-wathāqathe bond
فَإِمَّاfa-immāthen either
مَنًّۢاmannana favor
بَعْدُbaʿduafterwards
وَإِمَّاwa-immāor
فِدَآءًfidāanransom
حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
تَضَعَtaḍaʿalays down
ٱلْحَرْبُl-ḥarbuthe war
أَوْزَارَهَا ۚawzārahāits burdens
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
وَلَوْwalawAnd if
يَشَآءُyashāuAllah had willed
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah had willed
لَٱنتَصَرَla-intaṣarasurely, He could have taken retribution
مِنْهُمْmin'humfrom them
وَلَـٰكِنwalākinbut
لِّيَبْلُوَا۟liyabluwāto test
بَعْضَكُمbaʿḍakumsome of you
بِبَعْضٍۢ ۗbibaʿḍinwith others
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
قُتِلُوا۟qutilūare killed
فِىfīin
سَبِيلِsabīli(the) way of Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(the) way of Allah
فَلَنfalanthen never
يُضِلَّyuḍillaHe will cause to be lost
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds

Translation

So when you meet those who disbelieve then strike the necks until when you have subdued them then bind firmly the bond then either a favor afterwards or ransom until lays down the war its burdens That And if Allah had willed Allah had willed surely, He could have taken retribution from them but to test some of you with others And those who are killed in (the) way of Allah (the) way of Allah then never He will cause to be lost their deeds

Verse 5

سَيَهْدِيهِمْsayahdīhimHe will guide them
وَيُصْلِحُwayuṣ'liḥuand improve
بَالَهُمْbālahumtheir condition

Translation

He will guide them and improve their condition

Verse 6

وَيُدْخِلُهُمُwayud'khiluhumuAnd admit them
ٱلْجَنَّةَl-janata(to) Paradise
عَرَّفَهَاʿarrafahāHe has made it known
لَهُمْlahumto them

Translation

And admit them (to) Paradise He has made it known to them

Verse 7

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you who believe
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaO you who believe
ءَامَنُوٓا۟āmanūO you who believe
إِنinIf
تَنصُرُوا۟tanṣurūyou help
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يَنصُرْكُمْyanṣur'kumHe will help you
وَيُثَبِّتْwayuthabbitand make firm
أَقْدَامَكُمْaqdāmakumyour feet

Translation

O you who believe O you who believe O you who believe If you help Allah He will help you and make firm your feet

Verse 8

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaBut those who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
فَتَعْسًۭاfataʿsandestruction (is)
لَّهُمْlahumfor them
وَأَضَلَّwa-aḍallaand He will cause to be lost
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds

Translation

But those who disbelieve destruction (is) for them and He will cause to be lost their deeds

Verse 9

ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
بِأَنَّهُمْbi-annahum(is) because they
كَرِهُوا۟karihūhate
مَآmāwhat
أَنزَلَanzalaAllah has revealed
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah has revealed
فَأَحْبَطَfa-aḥbaṭaso He has made worthless
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds

Translation

That (is) because they hate what Allah has revealed Allah has revealed so He has made worthless their deeds

Verse 10

۞ أَفَلَمْafalamDo not
يَسِيرُوا۟yasīrūthey travel
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
فَيَنظُرُوا۟fayanẓurūand see
كَيْفَkayfahow
كَانَkānawas
عَـٰقِبَةُʿāqibatu(the) end
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those
مِنminbefore them
قَبْلِهِمْ ۚqablihimbefore them
دَمَّرَdammaraAllah destroyed
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah destroyed
عَلَيْهِمْ ۖʿalayhim[over] them
وَلِلْكَـٰفِرِينَwalil'kāfirīnaand for the disbelievers
أَمْثَـٰلُهَاamthāluhāits likeness

Translation

Do not they travel in the earth and see how was (the) end (of) those before them before them Allah destroyed Allah destroyed [over] them and for the disbelievers its likeness

Verse 11

ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
بِأَنَّbi-anna(is) because
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
مَوْلَىmawlā(is the) Protector
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
وَأَنَّwa-annaand that
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelievers
لَاlā(there is) no
مَوْلَىٰmawlāprotector
لَهُمْlahumfor them

Translation

That (is) because Allah (is the) Protector (of) those who believe and that the disbelievers (there is) no protector for them

Verse 12

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يُدْخِلُyud'khiluwill admit
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
جَنَّـٰتٍۢjannātin(to) Gardens
تَجْرِىtajrīflow
مِنminfrom
تَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath it
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖl-anhāruthe rivers
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnabut those who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
يَتَمَتَّعُونَyatamattaʿūnathey enjoy
وَيَأْكُلُونَwayakulūnaand eat
كَمَاkamāas
تَأْكُلُtakulueat
ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمُl-anʿāmuthe cattle
وَٱلنَّارُwal-nāruand the Fire
مَثْوًۭىmathwan(will be) an abode
لَّهُمْlahumfor them

Translation

Indeed Allah will admit those who believe and do righteous deeds (to) Gardens flow from underneath it the rivers but those who disbelieve they enjoy and eat as eat the cattle and the Fire (will be) an abode for them

Verse 13

وَكَأَيِّنwaka-ayyinAnd how many
مِّنminof
قَرْيَةٍqaryatina town
هِىَhiyawhich
أَشَدُّashaddu(was) stronger
قُوَّةًۭquwwatan(in) strength
مِّنminthan
قَرْيَتِكَqaryatikayour town
ٱلَّتِىٓallatīwhich
أَخْرَجَتْكَakhrajatkahas driven you out
أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْahlaknāhumWe destroyed them
فَلَاfalāso no
نَاصِرَnāṣirahelper
لَهُمْlahumfor them

Translation

And how many of a town which (was) stronger (in) strength than your town which has driven you out We destroyed them so no helper for them

Verse 14

أَفَمَنafamanThen is (he) who
كَانَkānais
عَلَىٰʿalāon
بَيِّنَةٍۢbayyinatina clear proof
مِّنminfrom
رَّبِّهِۦrabbihihis Lord
كَمَنkamanlike (he) who
زُيِّنَzuyyinais made attractive
لَهُۥlahuto him
سُوٓءُsūu(the) evil
عَمَلِهِۦʿamalihi(of) his deeds
وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟wa-ittabaʿūwhile they follow
أَهْوَآءَهُمahwāahumtheir desires

Translation

Then is (he) who is on a clear proof from his Lord like (he) who is made attractive to him (the) evil (of) his deeds while they follow their desires

Verse 15

مَّثَلُmathaluA parable
ٱلْجَنَّةِl-janati(of) Paradise
ٱلَّتِىallatīwhich
وُعِدَwuʿidais promised
ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ ۖl-mutaqūna(to) the righteous
فِيهَآfīhāTherein
أَنْهَـٰرٌۭanhārun(are) rivers
مِّنminof
مَّآءٍmāinwater
غَيْرِghayrinot
ءَاسِنٍۢāsininpolluted
وَأَنْهَـٰرٌۭwa-anhārunand rivers
مِّنminof
لَّبَنٍۢlabaninmilk
لَّمْlamnot
يَتَغَيَّرْyataghayyarchanges
طَعْمُهُۥṭaʿmuhuits taste
وَأَنْهَـٰرٌۭwa-anhārunand rivers
مِّنْminof
خَمْرٍۢkhamrinwine
لَّذَّةٍۢladhatindelicious
لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَlilshāribīnafor (the) drinkers
وَأَنْهَـٰرٌۭwa-anhārunand rivers
مِّنْminof
عَسَلٍۢʿasalinhoney
مُّصَفًّۭى ۖmuṣaffanpurified
وَلَهُمْwalahumand for them
فِيهَاfīhātherein
مِنminof
كُلِّkulliall
ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِl-thamarātifruits
وَمَغْفِرَةٌۭwamaghfiratunand forgiveness
مِّنminfrom
رَّبِّهِمْ ۖrabbihimtheir Lord
كَمَنْkamanlike he who
هُوَhuwalike he who
خَـٰلِدٌۭkhālidun(will) abide forever
فِىfīin
ٱلنَّارِl-nārithe Fire
وَسُقُوا۟wasuqūand they will be given to drink
مَآءًmāanwater
حَمِيمًۭاḥamīmanboiling
فَقَطَّعَfaqaṭṭaʿaso it cuts into pieces
أَمْعَآءَهُمْamʿāahumtheir intestines

Translation

A parable (of) Paradise which is promised (to) the righteous Therein (are) rivers of water not polluted and rivers of milk not changes its taste and rivers of wine delicious for (the) drinkers and rivers of honey purified and for them therein of all fruits and forgiveness from their Lord like he who like he who (will) abide forever in the Fire and they will be given to drink water boiling so it cuts into pieces their intestines

Verse 16

وَمِنْهُمwamin'humAnd among them
مَّنman(are some) who
يَسْتَمِعُyastamiʿulisten
إِلَيْكَilaykato you
حَتَّىٰٓḥattāuntil
إِذَاidhāwhen
خَرَجُوا۟kharajūthey depart
مِنْminfrom
عِندِكَʿindikayou
قَالُوا۟qālūthey say
لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those who
أُوتُوا۟ūtūwere given
ٱلْعِلْمَl-ʿil'mathe knowledge
مَاذَاmādhāWhat
قَالَqāla(has) he said
ءَانِفًا ۚānifanjust now
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(are) the ones
طَبَعَṭabaʿaAllah has set a seal
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah has set a seal
عَلَىٰʿalāupon
قُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihimtheir hearts
وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟wa-ittabaʿūand they follow
أَهْوَآءَهُمْahwāahumtheir desires

Translation

And among them (are some) who listen to you until when they depart from you they say to those who were given the knowledge What (has) he said just now Those (are) the ones Allah has set a seal Allah has set a seal upon their hearts and they follow their desires

Verse 17

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
ٱهْتَدَوْا۟ih'tadawaccept guidance
زَادَهُمْzādahumHe increases them
هُدًۭىhudan(in) guidance
وَءَاتَىٰهُمْwaātāhumand gives them
تَقْوَىٰهُمْtaqwāhumtheir righteousness

Translation

And those who accept guidance He increases them (in) guidance and gives them their righteousness

Verse 18

فَهَلْfahalThen do
يَنظُرُونَyanẓurūnathey wait
إِلَّاillābut
ٱلسَّاعَةَl-sāʿata(for) the Hour
أَنanthat
تَأْتِيَهُمtatiyahumit should come to them
بَغْتَةًۭ ۖbaghtatansuddenly
فَقَدْfaqadBut indeed
جَآءَjāahave come
أَشْرَاطُهَا ۚashrāṭuhāits indications
فَأَنَّىٰfa-annāThen how
لَهُمْlahumto them
إِذَاidhāwhen
جَآءَتْهُمْjāathumhas come to them
ذِكْرَىٰهُمْdhik'rāhumtheir reminder

Translation

Then do they wait but (for) the Hour that it should come to them suddenly But indeed have come its indications Then how to them when has come to them their reminder

Verse 19

فَٱعْلَمْfa-iʿ'lamSo know
أَنَّهُۥannahuthat [He]
لَآlā(there is) no
إِلَـٰهَilāhagod
إِلَّاillābut
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
وَٱسْتَغْفِرْwa-is'taghfirand ask forgiveness
لِذَنۢبِكَlidhanbikafor your sin
وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَwalil'mu'minīnaand for the believing men
وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ۗwal-mu'minātiand the believing women
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknows
مُتَقَلَّبَكُمْmutaqallabakumyour movement
وَمَثْوَىٰكُمْwamathwākumand your resting places

Translation

So know that [He] (there is) no god but Allah and ask forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and the believing women And Allah knows your movement and your resting places

Verse 20

وَيَقُولُwayaqūluAnd say
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
لَوْلَاlawlāWhy not
نُزِّلَتْnuzzilathas been revealed
سُورَةٌۭ ۖsūratuna Surah
فَإِذَآfa-idhāBut when
أُنزِلَتْunzilatis revealed
سُورَةٌۭsūratuna Surah
مُّحْكَمَةٌۭmuḥ'kamatunprecise
وَذُكِرَwadhukiraand is mentioned
فِيهَاfīhāin it
ٱلْقِتَالُ ۙl-qitāluthe fighting
رَأَيْتَra-aytayou see
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
فِىfīin
قُلُوبِهِمqulūbihimtheir hearts
مَّرَضٌۭmaraḍun(is) a disease
يَنظُرُونَyanẓurūnalooking
إِلَيْكَilaykaat you
نَظَرَnaẓaraa look
ٱلْمَغْشِىِّl-maghshiyi(of) one fainting
عَلَيْهِʿalayhi(of) one fainting
مِنَminafrom
ٱلْمَوْتِ ۖl-mawtithe death
فَأَوْلَىٰfa-awlāBut more appropriate
لَهُمْlahumfor them

Translation

And say those who believe Why not has been revealed a Surah But when is revealed a Surah precise and is mentioned in it the fighting you see those who in their hearts (is) a disease looking at you a look (of) one fainting (of) one fainting from the death But more appropriate for them

Verse 21

طَاعَةٌۭṭāʿatun(Is) obedience
وَقَوْلٌۭwaqawlunand a word
مَّعْرُوفٌۭ ۚmaʿrūfunkind
فَإِذَاfa-idhāAnd when
عَزَمَʿazama(is) determined
ٱلْأَمْرُl-amruthe matter
فَلَوْfalawthen if
صَدَقُوا۟ṣadaqūthey had been true
ٱللَّهَl-laha(to) Allah
لَكَانَlakānasurely, it would have been
خَيْرًۭاkhayranbetter
لَّهُمْlahumfor them

Translation

(Is) obedience and a word kind And when (is) determined the matter then if they had been true (to) Allah surely, it would have been better for them

Verse 22

فَهَلْfahalThen would
عَسَيْتُمْʿasaytumyou perhaps
إِنinif
تَوَلَّيْتُمْtawallaytumyou are given authority
أَنanthat
تُفْسِدُوا۟tuf'sidūyou cause corruption
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
وَتُقَطِّعُوٓا۟watuqaṭṭiʿūand cut off
أَرْحَامَكُمْarḥāmakumyour ties of kinship

Translation

Then would you perhaps if you are given authority that you cause corruption in the earth and cut off your ties of kinship

Verse 23

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(are) the ones
لَعَنَهُمُlaʿanahumuAllah has cursed them
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah has cursed them
فَأَصَمَّهُمْfa-aṣammahumso He made them deaf
وَأَعْمَىٰٓwa-aʿmāand blinded
أَبْصَـٰرَهُمْabṣārahumtheir vision

Translation

Those (are) the ones Allah has cursed them Allah has cursed them so He made them deaf and blinded their vision

Verse 24

أَفَلَاafalāThen do not
يَتَدَبَّرُونَyatadabbarūnathey ponder
ٱلْقُرْءَانَl-qur'āna(over) the Quran
أَمْamor
عَلَىٰʿalāupon
قُلُوبٍqulūbin(their) hearts
أَقْفَالُهَآaqfāluhā(are) locks

Translation

Then do not they ponder (over) the Quran or upon (their) hearts (are) locks

Verse 25

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ٱرْتَدُّوا۟ir'taddūreturn
عَلَىٰٓʿalāon
أَدْبَـٰرِهِمadbārihimtheir backs
مِّنۢminafter
بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
مَاmāwhat
تَبَيَّنَtabayyana(has) become clear
لَهُمُlahumuto them
ٱلْهُدَى ۙl-hudā(of) the guidance
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُl-shayṭānuShaitaan
سَوَّلَsawwalaenticed
لَهُمْlahum[for] them
وَأَمْلَىٰwa-amlāand prolonged hope
لَهُمْlahumfor them

Translation

Indeed those who return on their backs after after what (has) become clear to them (of) the guidance Shaitaan enticed [for] them and prolonged hope for them

Verse 26

ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
بِأَنَّهُمْbi-annahum(is) because they
قَالُوا۟qālū[they] said
لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those who
كَرِهُوا۟karihūhate
مَاmāwhat
نَزَّلَnazzalaAllah has revealed
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah has revealed
سَنُطِيعُكُمْsanuṭīʿukumWe will obey you
فِىfīin
بَعْضِbaʿḍipart
ٱلْأَمْرِ ۖl-amri(of) the matter
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuBut Allah
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknows
إِسْرَارَهُمْis'rārahumtheir secrets

Translation

That (is) because they [they] said to those who hate what Allah has revealed Allah has revealed We will obey you in part (of) the matter But Allah knows their secrets

Verse 27

فَكَيْفَfakayfaThen how
إِذَاidhāwhen
تَوَفَّتْهُمُtawaffathumutake them in death
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُl-malāikatuthe Angels
يَضْرِبُونَyaḍribūnastriking
وُجُوهَهُمْwujūhahumtheir faces
وَأَدْبَـٰرَهُمْwa-adbārahumand their backs

Translation

Then how when take them in death the Angels striking their faces and their backs

Verse 28

ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
بِأَنَّهُمُbi-annahumu(is) because they
ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ittabaʿūfollowed
مَآmāwhat
أَسْخَطَaskhaṭaangered
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
وَكَرِهُوا۟wakarihūand hated
رِضْوَٰنَهُۥriḍ'wānahuHis pleasure
فَأَحْبَطَfa-aḥbaṭaso He made worthless
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds

Translation

That (is) because they followed what angered Allah and hated His pleasure so He made worthless their deeds

Verse 29

أَمْamOr do
حَسِبَḥasibathink
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
فِىfīin
قُلُوبِهِمqulūbihimtheir hearts
مَّرَضٌmaraḍun(is) a disease
أَنanthat
لَّنlannever
يُخْرِجَyukh'rijawill Allah bring forth
ٱللَّهُl-lahuwill Allah bring forth
أَضْغَـٰنَهُمْaḍghānahumtheir hatred

Translation

Or do think those who in their hearts (is) a disease that never will Allah bring forth will Allah bring forth their hatred

Verse 30

وَلَوْwalawAnd if
نَشَآءُnashāuWe willed
لَأَرَيْنَـٰكَهُمْla-araynākahumsurely, We could show them to you
فَلَعَرَفْتَهُمfalaʿaraftahumand you would know them
بِسِيمَـٰهُمْ ۚbisīmāhumby their marks
وَلَتَعْرِفَنَّهُمْwalataʿrifannahumbut surely, you will know them
فِىfīby
لَحْنِlaḥni(the) tone
ٱلْقَوْلِ ۚl-qawli(of their) speech
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknows
أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْaʿmālakumyour deeds

Translation

And if We willed surely, We could show them to you and you would know them by their marks but surely, you will know them by (the) tone (of their) speech And Allah knows your deeds

Verse 31

وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُمْwalanabluwannakumAnd surely We will test you
حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
نَعْلَمَnaʿlamaWe make evident
ٱلْمُجَـٰهِدِينَl-mujāhidīnathose who strive
مِنكُمْminkumamong you
وَٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَwal-ṣābirīnaand the patient ones
وَنَبْلُوَا۟wanabluwāand We will test
أَخْبَارَكُمْakhbārakumyour affairs

Translation

And surely We will test you until We make evident those who strive among you and the patient ones and We will test your affairs

Verse 32

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
وَصَدُّوا۟waṣaddūand turn away
عَنʿanfrom
سَبِيلِsabīli(the) way of Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(the) way of Allah
وَشَآقُّوا۟washāqqūand oppose
ٱلرَّسُولَl-rasūlathe Messenger
مِنۢminafter
بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
مَاmā[what]
تَبَيَّنَtabayyana(has been) made clear
لَهُمُlahumuto them
ٱلْهُدَىٰl-hudāthe guidance
لَنlannever
يَضُرُّوا۟yaḍurrūwill they harm
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
شَيْـًۭٔاshayan(in) anything
وَسَيُحْبِطُwasayuḥ'biṭuand He will make worthless
أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds

Translation

Indeed those who disbelieve and turn away from (the) way of Allah (the) way of Allah and oppose the Messenger after after [what] (has been) made clear to them the guidance never will they harm Allah (in) anything and He will make worthless their deeds

Verse 33

۞ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you who believe
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaO you who believe
ءَامَنُوٓا۟āmanūO you who believe
أَطِيعُوا۟aṭīʿūObey
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
وَأَطِيعُوا۟wa-aṭīʿūand obey
ٱلرَّسُولَl-rasūlathe Messenger
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تُبْطِلُوٓا۟tub'ṭilūmake vain
أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْaʿmālakumyour deeds

Translation

O you who believe O you who believe O you who believe Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and (do) not make vain your deeds

Verse 34

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
وَصَدُّوا۟waṣaddūand turn away
عَنʿanfrom
سَبِيلِsabīli(the) way
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
ثُمَّthummathen
مَاتُوا۟mātūdied
وَهُمْwahumwhile they
كُفَّارٌۭkuffārun(were) disbelievers
فَلَنfalannever
يَغْفِرَyaghfirawill Allah forgive
ٱللَّهُl-lahuwill Allah forgive
لَهُمْlahumthem

Translation

Indeed those who disbelieve and turn away from (the) way (of) Allah then died while they (were) disbelievers never will Allah forgive will Allah forgive them

Verse 35

فَلَاfalāSo (do) not
تَهِنُوا۟tahinūweaken
وَتَدْعُوٓا۟watadʿūand call
إِلَىilāfor
ٱلسَّلْمِl-salmipeace
وَأَنتُمُwa-antumuwhile you
ٱلْأَعْلَوْنَl-aʿlawna(are) superior
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuand Allah
مَعَكُمْmaʿakum(is) with you
وَلَنwalanand never
يَتِرَكُمْyatirakumwill deprive you
أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْaʿmālakum(of) your deeds

Translation

So (do) not weaken and call for peace while you (are) superior and Allah (is) with you and never will deprive you (of) your deeds

Verse 36

إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
ٱلْحَيَوٰةُl-ḥayatuthe life
ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the world
لَعِبٌۭlaʿibun(is) play
وَلَهْوٌۭ ۚwalahwunand amusement
وَإِنwa-inAnd if
تُؤْمِنُوا۟tu'minūyou believe
وَتَتَّقُوا۟watattaqūand fear (Allah)
يُؤْتِكُمْyu'tikumHe will give you
أُجُورَكُمْujūrakumyour rewards
وَلَاwalāand not
يَسْـَٔلْكُمْyasalkumwill ask you
أَمْوَٰلَكُمْamwālakum(for) your wealth

Translation

Only the life (of) the world (is) play and amusement And if you believe and fear (Allah) He will give you your rewards and not will ask you (for) your wealth

Verse 37

إِنinIf
يَسْـَٔلْكُمُوهَاyasalkumūhāHe were to ask you for it
فَيُحْفِكُمْfayuḥ'fikumand press you
تَبْخَلُوا۟tabkhalūyou will withhold
وَيُخْرِجْwayukh'rijand He will bring forth
أَضْغَـٰنَكُمْaḍghānakumyour hatred

Translation

If He were to ask you for it and press you you will withhold and He will bring forth your hatred

Verse 38

هَـٰٓأَنتُمْhāantumHere you are
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāithese
تُدْعَوْنَtud'ʿawnacalled
لِتُنفِقُوا۟litunfiqūto spend
فِىfīin
سَبِيلِsabīli(the) way
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
فَمِنكُمfaminkumbut among you
مَّنman(are some) who
يَبْخَلُ ۖyabkhaluwithhold
وَمَنwamanand whoever
يَبْخَلْyabkhalwithholds
فَإِنَّمَاfa-innamāthen only
يَبْخَلُyabkhaluhe withholds
عَنʿanfrom
نَّفْسِهِۦ ۚnafsihihimself
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuBut Allah
ٱلْغَنِىُّl-ghaniyu(is) Free of need
وَأَنتُمُwa-antumuwhile you
ٱلْفُقَرَآءُ ۚl-fuqarāu(are) the needy
وَإِنwa-inAnd if
تَتَوَلَّوْا۟tatawallawyou turn away
يَسْتَبْدِلْyastabdilHe will replace you
قَوْمًاqawman(with) a people
غَيْرَكُمْghayrakumother than you
ثُمَّthummathen
لَاlānot
يَكُونُوٓا۟yakūnūthey will be
أَمْثَـٰلَكُمamthālakum(the) likes of you

Translation

Here you are these called to spend in (the) way (of) Allah but among you (are some) who withhold and whoever withholds then only he withholds from himself But Allah (is) Free of need while you (are) the needy And if you turn away He will replace you (with) a people other than you then not they will be (the) likes of you
