Chapter 5Medinan120 Verses

Verse 1

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnayou (who)
ءَامَنُوٓا۟āmanūbelieve
أَوْفُوا۟awfūFulfil
بِٱلْعُقُودِ ۚbil-ʿuqūdithe contracts
أُحِلَّتْuḥillatAre made lawful
لَكُمlakumfor you
بَهِيمَةُbahīmatuthe quadruped
ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِl-anʿāmi(of) the grazing livestock
إِلَّاillāexcept
مَاmāwhat
يُتْلَىٰyut'lāis recited
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumon you
غَيْرَghayranot
مُحِلِّىmuḥillībeing permitted
ٱلصَّيْدِl-ṣaydi(to) hunt
وَأَنتُمْwa-antumwhile you
حُرُمٌ ۗḥurumun(are in) Ihram
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يَحْكُمُyaḥkumudecrees
مَاmāwhat
يُرِيدُyurīduHe wills

Translation

O you (who) believe Fulfil the contracts Are made lawful for you the quadruped (of) the grazing livestock except what is recited on you not being permitted (to) hunt while you (are in) Ihram Indeed Allah decrees what He wills

Verse 2

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnayou (who)
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
لَاlā(Do) not
تُحِلُّوا۟tuḥillūviolate
شَعَـٰٓئِرَshaʿāira(the) rites
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
وَلَاwalāand not
ٱلشَّهْرَl-shahrathe month
ٱلْحَرَامَl-ḥarāmathe sacred
وَلَاwalāand not
ٱلْهَدْىَl-hadyathe sacrificial animals
وَلَاwalāand not
ٱلْقَلَـٰٓئِدَl-qalāidathe garlanded
وَلَآwalāand not
ءَآمِّينَāmmīna(those) coming
ٱلْبَيْتَl-bayta(to) the House
ٱلْحَرَامَl-ḥarāmathe Sacred
يَبْتَغُونَyabtaghūnaseeking
فَضْلًۭاfaḍlanBounty
مِّنminof
رَّبِّهِمْrabbihimtheir Lord
وَرِضْوَٰنًۭا ۚwariḍ'wānanand good pleasure
وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
حَلَلْتُمْḥalaltumyou come out of Ihram
فَٱصْطَادُوا۟ ۚfa-iṣ'ṭādūthen (you may) hunt
وَلَاwalāAnd let not
يَجْرِمَنَّكُمْyajrimannakumincite you
شَنَـَٔانُshanaānu(the) hatred
قَوْمٍqawmin(for) a people
أَنanas
صَدُّوكُمْṣaddūkumthey stopped you
عَنِʿanifrom
ٱلْمَسْجِدِl-masjidiAl-Masjid
ٱلْحَرَامِl-ḥarāmiAl-Haraam
أَنanthat
تَعْتَدُوا۟ ۘtaʿtadūyou commit transgression
وَتَعَاوَنُوا۟wataʿāwanūAnd help one another
عَلَىʿalāin
ٱلْبِرِّl-biri[the] righteousness
وَٱلتَّقْوَىٰ ۖwal-taqwāand [the] piety
وَلَاwalābut (do) not
تَعَاوَنُوا۟taʿāwanūhelp one another
عَلَىʿalāin
ٱلْإِثْمِl-ith'mi[the] sin
وَٱلْعُدْوَٰنِ ۚwal-ʿud'wāniand [the] transgression
وَٱتَّقُوا۟wa-ittaqūAnd fear
ٱللَّهَ ۖl-lahaAllah
إِنَّinnaindeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
شَدِيدُshadīdu(is) severe
ٱلْعِقَابِl-ʿiqābi(in) [the] punishment

Translation

O you (who) believe (Do) not violate (the) rites (of) Allah and not the month the sacred and not the sacrificial animals and not the garlanded and not (those) coming (to) the House the Sacred seeking Bounty of their Lord and good pleasure And when you come out of Ihram then (you may) hunt And let not incite you (the) hatred (for) a people as they stopped you from Al-Masjid Al-Haraam that you commit transgression And help one another in [the] righteousness and [the] piety but (do) not help one another in [the] sin and [the] transgression And fear Allah indeed Allah (is) severe (in) [the] punishment

Verse 3

حُرِّمَتْḥurrimatAre made unlawful
عَلَيْكُمُʿalaykumuon you
ٱلْمَيْتَةُl-maytatuthe dead animals
وَٱلدَّمُwal-damuand the blood
وَلَحْمُwalaḥmuand flesh
ٱلْخِنزِيرِl-khinzīri(of) the swine
وَمَآwamāand what
أُهِلَّuhillahas been dedicated
لِغَيْرِlighayrito other than
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
بِهِۦbihi[on it]
وَٱلْمُنْخَنِقَةُwal-mun'khaniqatuand that which is strangled (to death)
وَٱلْمَوْقُوذَةُwal-mawqūdhatuand that which is hit fatally
وَٱلْمُتَرَدِّيَةُwal-mutaradiyatuand that which has a fatal fall
وَٱلنَّطِيحَةُwal-naṭīḥatuand that which is gored by horns
وَمَآwamāand that which
أَكَلَakalaate (it)
ٱلسَّبُعُl-sabuʿuthe wild animal
إِلَّاillāexcept
مَاmāwhat
ذَكَّيْتُمْdhakkaytumyou slaughtered
وَمَاwamāand what
ذُبِحَdhubiḥais sacrificed
عَلَىʿalāon
ٱلنُّصُبِl-nuṣubithe stone altars
وَأَنwa-anand that
تَسْتَقْسِمُوا۟tastaqsimūyou seek division
بِٱلْأَزْلَـٰمِ ۚbil-azlāmiby divining arrows
ذَٰلِكُمْdhālikumthat
فِسْقٌ ۗfis'qun(is) grave disobedience
ٱلْيَوْمَl-yawmaThis day
يَئِسَya-isa(have) despaired
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
مِنminof
دِينِكُمْdīnikumyour religion
فَلَاfalāso (do) not
تَخْشَوْهُمْtakhshawhumfear them
وَٱخْشَوْنِ ۚwa-ikh'shawnibut fear Me
ٱلْيَوْمَl-yawmaThis day
أَكْمَلْتُakmaltuI have perfected
لَكُمْlakumfor you
دِينَكُمْdīnakumyour religion
وَأَتْمَمْتُwa-atmamtuand I have completed
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon you
نِعْمَتِىniʿ'matīMy Favor
وَرَضِيتُwaraḍītuand I have approved
لَكُمُlakumufor you
ٱلْإِسْلَـٰمَl-is'lāma[the] Islam
دِينًۭا ۚdīnan(as) a religion
فَمَنِfamaniBut whoever
ٱضْطُرَّuḍ'ṭurra(is) forced
فِىfīby
مَخْمَصَةٍmakhmaṣatinhunger
غَيْرَghayra(and) not
مُتَجَانِفٍۢmutajānifininclining
لِّإِثْمٍۢ ۙli-ith'minto sin
فَإِنَّfa-innathen indeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
غَفُورٌۭghafūrun(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭraḥīmunMost Merciful

Translation

Are made unlawful on you the dead animals and the blood and flesh (of) the swine and what has been dedicated to other than Allah [on it] and that which is strangled (to death) and that which is hit fatally and that which has a fatal fall and that which is gored by horns and that which ate (it) the wild animal except what you slaughtered and what is sacrificed on the stone altars and that you seek division by divining arrows that (is) grave disobedience This day (have) despaired those who disbelieved of your religion so (do) not fear them but fear Me This day I have perfected for you your religion and I have completed upon you My Favor and I have approved for you [the] Islam (as) a religion But whoever (is) forced by hunger (and) not inclining to sin then indeed Allah (is) Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful

Verse 4

يَسْـَٔلُونَكَyasalūnakaThey ask you
مَاذَآmādhāwhat
أُحِلَّuḥilla(is) made lawful
لَهُمْ ۖlahumfor them
قُلْqulSay
أُحِلَّuḥillaAre made lawful
لَكُمُlakumufor you
ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتُ ۙl-ṭayibātuthe good things
وَمَاwamāand what
عَلَّمْتُمʿallamtumyou have taught
مِّنَminaof
ٱلْجَوَارِحِl-jawāriḥi(your) hunting animals
مُكَلِّبِينَmukallibīnaones who train animals to hunt
تُعَلِّمُونَهُنَّtuʿallimūnahunnayou teach them
مِمَّاmimmāof what
عَلَّمَكُمُʿallamakumuhas taught you
ٱللَّهُ ۖl-lahuAllah
فَكُلُوا۟fakulūSo eat
مِمَّآmimmāof what
أَمْسَكْنَamsaknathey catch
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumfor you
وَٱذْكُرُوا۟wa-udh'kurūbut mention
ٱسْمَis'ma(the) name
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
عَلَيْهِ ۖʿalayhion it
وَٱتَّقُوا۟wa-ittaqūand fear
ٱللَّهَ ۚl-lahaAllah
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
سَرِيعُsarīʿuis swift
ٱلْحِسَابِl-ḥisābi(in taking) account

Translation

They ask you what (is) made lawful for them Say Are made lawful for you the good things and what you have taught of (your) hunting animals ones who train animals to hunt you teach them of what has taught you Allah So eat of what they catch for you but mention (the) name (of) Allah on it and fear Allah Indeed Allah is swift (in taking) account

Verse 5

ٱلْيَوْمَal-yawmaThis day
أُحِلَّuḥillaare made lawful
لَكُمُlakumufor you
ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتُ ۖl-ṭayibātuthe good things
وَطَعَامُwaṭaʿāmuand (the) food
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those who
أُوتُوا۟ūtūwere given
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
حِلٌّۭḥillun(is) lawful
لَّكُمْlakumfor you
وَطَعَامُكُمْwaṭaʿāmukumand your food
حِلٌّۭḥillun(is) lawful
لَّهُمْ ۖlahumfor them
وَٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتُwal-muḥ'ṣanātuAnd the chaste women
مِنَminafrom
ٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِl-mu'minātithe believers
وَٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتُwal-muḥ'ṣanātuand the chaste women
مِنَminafrom
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
أُوتُوا۟ūtūwere given
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
مِنminfrom
قَبْلِكُمْqablikumbefore you
إِذَآidhāwhen
ءَاتَيْتُمُوهُنَّātaytumūhunnayou have given them
أُجُورَهُنَّujūrahunnatheir bridal due
مُحْصِنِينَmuḥ'ṣinīnabeing chaste
غَيْرَghayranot
مُسَـٰفِحِينَmusāfiḥīnabeing lewd
وَلَاwalāand not
مُتَّخِذِىٓmuttakhidhīones (who are) taking
أَخْدَانٍۢ ۗakhdāninsecret lovers
وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
يَكْفُرْyakfurdenies
بِٱلْإِيمَـٰنِbil-īmānithe faith
فَقَدْfaqadthen surely
حَبِطَḥabiṭa(are) wasted
عَمَلُهُۥʿamaluhuhis deeds
وَهُوَwahuwaand he
فِىfīin
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhiratithe Hereafter
مِنَmina(will be) among
ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَl-khāsirīnathe losers

Translation

This day are made lawful for you the good things and (the) food (of) those who were given the Book (is) lawful for you and your food (is) lawful for them And the chaste women from the believers and the chaste women from those who were given the Book from before you when you have given them their bridal due being chaste not being lewd and not ones (who are) taking secret lovers And whoever denies the faith then surely (are) wasted his deeds and he in the Hereafter (will be) among the losers

Verse 6

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
ءَامَنُوٓا۟āmanūbelieve
إِذَاidhāWhen
قُمْتُمْqum'tumyou stand up
إِلَىilāfor
ٱلصَّلَوٰةِl-ṣalatithe prayer
فَٱغْسِلُوا۟fa-igh'silūthen wash
وُجُوهَكُمْwujūhakumyour faces
وَأَيْدِيَكُمْwa-aydiyakumand your hands
إِلَىilātill
ٱلْمَرَافِقِl-marāfiqithe elbows
وَٱمْسَحُوا۟wa-im'saḥūand wipe
بِرُءُوسِكُمْbiruūsikumyour heads
وَأَرْجُلَكُمْwa-arjulakumand your feet
إِلَىilātill
ٱلْكَعْبَيْنِ ۚl-kaʿbaynithe ankles
وَإِنwa-inBut if
كُنتُمْkuntumyou are
جُنُبًۭاjunuban(in) a state of ceremonial impurity
فَٱطَّهَّرُوا۟ ۚfa-iṭṭahharūthen purify yourselves
وَإِنwa-inBut if
كُنتُمkuntumyou are
مَّرْضَىٰٓmarḍāill
أَوْawor
عَلَىٰʿalāon
سَفَرٍsafarina journey
أَوْawor
جَآءَjāahas come
أَحَدٌۭaḥadunanyone
مِّنكُمminkumof you
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلْغَآئِطِl-ghāiṭithe toilet
أَوْawor
لَـٰمَسْتُمُlāmastumuhas (had) contact
ٱلنِّسَآءَl-nisāa(with) the women
فَلَمْfalamand not
تَجِدُوا۟tajidūyou find
مَآءًۭmāanwater
فَتَيَمَّمُوا۟fatayammamūthen do tayyammum
صَعِيدًۭاṣaʿīdan(with) earth
طَيِّبًۭاṭayyibanclean
فَٱمْسَحُوا۟fa-im'saḥūthen wipe
بِوُجُوهِكُمْbiwujūhikumyour faces
وَأَيْدِيكُمwa-aydīkumand your hands
مِّنْهُ ۚmin'huwith it
مَاmāDoes not
يُرِيدُyurīduintend
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
لِيَجْعَلَliyajʿalato make
عَلَيْكُمʿalaykumfor you
مِّنْminany
حَرَجٍۢḥarajindifficulty
وَلَـٰكِنwalākinbut
يُرِيدُyurīduHe intends
لِيُطَهِّرَكُمْliyuṭahhirakumto purify you
وَلِيُتِمَّwaliyutimmaand to complete
نِعْمَتَهُۥniʿ'matahuHis Favor
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon you
لَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you may
تَشْكُرُونَtashkurūna(be) grateful

Translation

O you who believe When you stand up for the prayer then wash your faces and your hands till the elbows and wipe your heads and your feet till the ankles But if you are (in) a state of ceremonial impurity then purify yourselves But if you are ill or on a journey or has come anyone of you from the toilet or has (had) contact (with) the women and not you find water then do tayyammum (with) earth clean then wipe your faces and your hands with it Does not intend Allah to make for you any difficulty but He intends to purify you and to complete His Favor upon you so that you may (be) grateful

Verse 7

وَٱذْكُرُوا۟wa-udh'kurūAnd remember
نِعْمَةَniʿ'mata(the) Favor
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon you
وَمِيثَـٰقَهُwamīthāqahuand His covenant
ٱلَّذِىalladhīwhich
وَاثَقَكُمwāthaqakumHe bound you
بِهِۦٓbihiwith [it]
إِذْidhwhen
قُلْتُمْqul'tumyou said
سَمِعْنَاsamiʿ'nāWe heard
وَأَطَعْنَا ۖwa-aṭaʿnāand we obeyed
وَٱتَّقُوا۟wa-ittaqūand fear
ٱللَّهَ ۚl-lahaAllah
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
عَلِيمٌۢʿalīmun(is) All-Knower
بِذَاتِbidhātiof what
ٱلصُّدُورِl-ṣudūri(is in) the breasts

Translation

And remember (the) Favor (of) Allah upon you and His covenant which He bound you with [it] when you said We heard and we obeyed and fear Allah Indeed Allah (is) All-Knower of what (is in) the breasts

Verse 8

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
كُونُوا۟kūnūBe
قَوَّٰمِينَqawwāmīnasteadfast
لِلَّهِlillahifor Allah
شُهَدَآءَshuhadāa(as) witnesses
بِٱلْقِسْطِ ۖbil-qis'ṭiin justice
وَلَاwalāand let not
يَجْرِمَنَّكُمْyajrimannakumprevent you
شَنَـَٔانُshanaānuhatred
قَوْمٍqawmin(of) a people
عَلَىٰٓʿalā[upon]
أَلَّاallāthat not
تَعْدِلُوا۟ ۚtaʿdilūyou do justice
ٱعْدِلُوا۟iʿ'dilūBe just
هُوَhuwait
أَقْرَبُaqrabu(is) nearer
لِلتَّقْوَىٰ ۖlilttaqwāto [the] piety
وَٱتَّقُوا۟wa-ittaqūAnd fear
ٱللَّهَ ۚl-lahaAllah
إِنَّinnaindeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
خَبِيرٌۢkhabīrun(is) All-Aware
بِمَاbimāof what
تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnayou do

Translation

O you who believe Be steadfast for Allah (as) witnesses in justice and let not prevent you hatred (of) a people [upon] that not you do justice Be just it (is) nearer to [the] piety And fear Allah indeed Allah (is) All-Aware of what you do

Verse 9

وَعَدَwaʿadaHas promised
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ ۙl-ṣāliḥātithe righteous deeds
لَهُمlahumfor them
مَّغْفِرَةٌۭmaghfiratun(is) forgiveness
وَأَجْرٌwa-ajrunand a reward
عَظِيمٌۭʿaẓīmungreat

Translation

Has promised Allah those who believe and do the righteous deeds for them (is) forgiveness and a reward great

Verse 10

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
وَكَذَّبُوا۟wakadhabūand deny
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآbiāyātināOur Signs
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikathose
أَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu(are the) companions
ٱلْجَحِيمِl-jaḥīmi(of) the Hellfire

Translation

And those who disbelieve and deny Our Signs those (are the) companions (of) the Hellfire

Verse 11

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
ٱذْكُرُوا۟udh'kurūRemember
نِعْمَتَniʿ'mata(the) Favor
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon you
إِذْidhwhen
هَمَّhammadetermined
قَوْمٌqawmuna people
أَنanthat
يَبْسُطُوٓا۟yabsuṭūthey stretch
إِلَيْكُمْilaykumtowards you
أَيْدِيَهُمْaydiyahumtheir hands
فَكَفَّfakaffabut He restrained
أَيْدِيَهُمْaydiyahumtheir hands
عَنكُمْ ۖʿankumfrom you
وَٱتَّقُوا۟wa-ittaqūAnd fear
ٱللَّهَ ۚl-lahaAllah
وَعَلَىwaʿalāAnd upon
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِfalyatawakkaliso let put the trust
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَl-mu'minūnathe believers

Translation

O you who believe Remember (the) Favor (of) Allah upon you when determined a people that they stretch towards you their hands but He restrained their hands from you And fear Allah And upon Allah so let put the trust the believers

Verse 12

۞ وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainly
أَخَذَakhadhatook
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
مِيثَـٰقَmīthāqaa Covenant
بَنِىٓbanī(from the) Children
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla(of) Israel
وَبَعَثْنَاwabaʿathnāand We appointed
مِنْهُمُmin'humuamong them
ٱثْنَىْith'naytwo
عَشَرَʿashara(and) ten
نَقِيبًۭا ۖnaqībanleaders
وَقَالَwaqālaAnd said
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
إِنِّىinnīIndeed, I (am)
مَعَكُمْ ۖmaʿakumwith you
لَئِنْla-inif
أَقَمْتُمُaqamtumuyou establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَl-ṣalatathe prayer
وَءَاتَيْتُمُwaātaytumuand give
ٱلزَّكَوٰةَl-zakatathe zakah
وَءَامَنتُمwaāmantumand you believe
بِرُسُلِىbirusulīin My Messengers
وَعَزَّرْتُمُوهُمْwaʿazzartumūhumand you assist them
وَأَقْرَضْتُمُwa-aqraḍtumuand you loan
ٱللَّهَl-laha(to) Allah
قَرْضًاqarḍana loan
حَسَنًۭاḥasanangoodly
لَّأُكَفِّرَنَّla-ukaffirannasurely I will remove
عَنكُمْʿankumfrom you
سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْsayyiātikumyour evil deeds
وَلَأُدْخِلَنَّكُمْwala-ud'khilannakumand I will surely admit you
جَنَّـٰتٍۢjannātin(to) gardens
تَجْرِىtajrīflow
مِنminfrom
تَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath them
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۚl-anhāruthe rivers
فَمَنfamanBut whoever
كَفَرَkafaradisbelieved
بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
مِنكُمْminkumamong you
فَقَدْfaqadthen certainly
ضَلَّḍallahe strayed
سَوَآءَsawāa(from) the way
ٱلسَّبِيلِl-sabīlithe right

Translation

And certainly took Allah a Covenant (from the) Children (of) Israel and We appointed among them two (and) ten leaders And said Allah Indeed, I (am) with you if you establish the prayer and give the zakah and you believe in My Messengers and you assist them and you loan (to) Allah a loan goodly surely I will remove from you your evil deeds and I will surely admit you (to) gardens flow from underneath them the rivers But whoever disbelieved after that among you then certainly he strayed (from) the way the right

Verse 13

فَبِمَاfabimāSo for
نَقْضِهِمnaqḍihimtheir breaking
مِّيثَـٰقَهُمْmīthāqahum(of) their covenant
لَعَنَّـٰهُمْlaʿannāhumWe cursed them
وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāand We made
قُلُوبَهُمْqulūbahumtheir hearts
قَـٰسِيَةًۭ ۖqāsiyatanhard
يُحَرِّفُونَyuḥarrifūnaThey distort
ٱلْكَلِمَl-kalimathe words
عَنʿanfrom
مَّوَاضِعِهِۦ ۙmawāḍiʿihitheir places
وَنَسُوا۟wanasūand forgot
حَظًّۭاḥaẓẓana part
مِّمَّاmimmāof what
ذُكِّرُوا۟dhukkirūthey were reminded
بِهِۦ ۚbihiof [it]
وَلَاwalāAnd not
تَزَالُtazāluwill you cease
تَطَّلِعُtaṭṭaliʿuto discover
عَلَىٰʿalāof
خَآئِنَةٍۢkhāinatintreachery
مِّنْهُمْmin'humfrom them
إِلَّاillāexcept
قَلِيلًۭاqalīlana few
مِّنْهُمْ ۖmin'humof them
فَٱعْفُfa-uʿ'fuBut forgive
عَنْهُمْʿanhumthem
وَٱصْفَحْ ۚwa-iṣ'faḥand overlook
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يُحِبُّyuḥibbuloves
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīnathe good-doers

Translation

So for their breaking (of) their covenant We cursed them and We made their hearts hard They distort the words from their places and forgot a part of what they were reminded of [it] And not will you cease to discover of treachery from them except a few of them But forgive them and overlook Indeed Allah loves the good-doers

Verse 14

وَمِنَwaminaAnd from
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
قَالُوٓا۟qālūsaid
إِنَّاinnāIndeed we
نَصَـٰرَىٰٓnaṣārā(are) Christians
أَخَذْنَاakhadhnāWe took
مِيثَـٰقَهُمْmīthāqahumtheir covenant
فَنَسُوا۟fanasūbut they forgot
حَظًّۭاḥaẓẓana part
مِّمَّاmimmāof what
ذُكِّرُوا۟dhukkirūthey were reminded
بِهِۦbihiof [it]
فَأَغْرَيْنَاfa-aghraynāSo We aroused
بَيْنَهُمُbaynahumubetween them
ٱلْعَدَاوَةَl-ʿadāwata[the] enmity
وَٱلْبَغْضَآءَwal-baghḍāaand [the] hatred
إِلَىٰilātill
يَوْمِyawmi(the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۚl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
وَسَوْفَwasawfaAnd soon
يُنَبِّئُهُمُyunabbi-uhumuwill inform them
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
بِمَاbimāof what
كَانُوا۟kānūthey used to
يَصْنَعُونَyaṣnaʿūnado

Translation

And from those who said Indeed we (are) Christians We took their covenant but they forgot a part of what they were reminded of [it] So We aroused between them [the] enmity and [the] hatred till (the) Day (of) the Resurrection And soon will inform them Allah of what they used to do

Verse 15

يَـٰٓأَهْلَyāahlaO People
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
قَدْqadSurely
جَآءَكُمْjāakumhas come to you
رَسُولُنَاrasūlunāOur Messenger
يُبَيِّنُyubayyinumaking clear
لَكُمْlakumto you
كَثِيرًۭاkathīranmuch
مِّمَّاmimmāof what
كُنتُمْkuntumyou used to
تُخْفُونَtukh'fūnaconceal
مِنَminaof
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābithe Scripture
وَيَعْفُوا۟wayaʿfūand overlooking
عَنʿanof
كَثِيرٍۢ ۚkathīrinmuch
قَدْqadSurely
جَآءَكُمjāakumhas come to you
مِّنَminafrom
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
نُورٌۭnūruna light
وَكِتَـٰبٌۭwakitābunand a Book
مُّبِينٌۭmubīnunclear

Translation

O People (of) the Book Surely has come to you Our Messenger making clear to you much of what you used to conceal of the Scripture and overlooking of much Surely has come to you from Allah a light and a Book clear

Verse 16

يَهْدِىyahdīGuides
بِهِbihiwith it
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
مَنِmani(those) who
ٱتَّبَعَittabaʿaseek
رِضْوَٰنَهُۥriḍ'wānahuHis pleasure
سُبُلَsubula(to the) ways
ٱلسَّلَـٰمِl-salāmi(of) the peace
وَيُخْرِجُهُمwayukh'rijuhumand brings them out
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِl-ẓulumātithe darknessess
إِلَىilāto
ٱلنُّورِl-nūrithe light
بِإِذْنِهِۦbi-idh'nihiby His permission
وَيَهْدِيهِمْwayahdīhimand guides them
إِلَىٰilāto
صِرَٰطٍۢṣirāṭin(the) way
مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢmus'taqīmin(the) straight

Translation

Guides with it Allah (those) who seek His pleasure (to the) ways (of) the peace and brings them out from the darknessess to the light by His permission and guides them to (the) way (the) straight

Verse 17

لَّقَدْlaqadCertainly
كَفَرَkafaradisbelieved
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
قَالُوٓا۟qālūsaid
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
هُوَhuwaHe
ٱلْمَسِيحُl-masīḥu(is) the Messiah
ٱبْنُub'nuson
مَرْيَمَ ۚmaryama(of) Maryam
قُلْqulSay
فَمَنfamanThen who
يَمْلِكُyamlikuhas power
مِنَminaagainst
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
شَيْـًٔاshayan(in) anything
إِنْinif
أَرَادَarādaHe intends
أَنanto
يُهْلِكَyuh'likadestroy
ٱلْمَسِيحَl-masīḥathe Messiah
ٱبْنَib'nason
مَرْيَمَmaryama(of) Maryam
وَأُمَّهُۥwa-ummahuand his mother
وَمَنwamanand whoever
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
جَمِيعًۭا ۗjamīʿanall
وَلِلَّهِwalillahiAnd for Allah
مُلْكُmul'ku(is the) dominion
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth
وَمَاwamāand what
بَيْنَهُمَا ۚbaynahumā(is) between both of them
يَخْلُقُyakhluquHe creates
مَاmāwhat
يَشَآءُ ۚyashāuHe wills
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuand Allah
عَلَىٰʿalā(is) on
كُلِّkullievery
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
قَدِيرٌۭqadīrunAll-Powerful

Translation

Certainly disbelieved those who said Indeed Allah He (is) the Messiah son (of) Maryam Say Then who has power against Allah (in) anything if He intends to destroy the Messiah son (of) Maryam and his mother and whoever (is) in the earth all And for Allah (is the) dominion (of) the heavens and the earth and what (is) between both of them He creates what He wills and Allah (is) on every thing All-Powerful

Verse 18

وَقَالَتِwaqālatiAnd said
ٱلْيَهُودُl-yahūduthe Jews
وَٱلنَّصَـٰرَىٰwal-naṣārāand the Christians
نَحْنُnaḥnuWe (are)
أَبْنَـٰٓؤُا۟abnāu(the) children
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
وَأَحِبَّـٰٓؤُهُۥ ۚwa-aḥibbāuhuand His beloved
قُلْqulSay
فَلِمَfalimaThen why
يُعَذِّبُكُمyuʿadhibukum(does He) punish you
بِذُنُوبِكُم ۖbidhunūbikumfor your sins
بَلْbalNay
أَنتُمantumyou (are)
بَشَرٌۭbasharunhuman beings
مِّمَّنْmimmanfrom among (those)
خَلَقَ ۚkhalaqaHe created
يَغْفِرُyaghfiruHe forgives
لِمَنliman[for] whom
يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
وَيُعَذِّبُwayuʿadhibuand punishes
مَنmanwhom
يَشَآءُ ۚyashāuHe wills
وَلِلَّهِwalillahiAnd for Allah
مُلْكُmul'ku(is the) dominion
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth
وَمَاwamāand whatever
بَيْنَهُمَا ۖbaynahumā(is) between them
وَإِلَيْهِwa-ilayhiand to Him
ٱلْمَصِيرُl-maṣīru(is) the final return

Translation

And said the Jews and the Christians We (are) (the) children (of) Allah and His beloved Say Then why (does He) punish you for your sins Nay you (are) human beings from among (those) He created He forgives [for] whom He wills and punishes whom He wills And for Allah (is the) dominion (of) the heavens and the earth and whatever (is) between them and to Him (is) the final return

Verse 19

يَـٰٓأَهْلَyāahlaO People
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
قَدْqadSurely
جَآءَكُمْjāakumhas come to you
رَسُولُنَاrasūlunāOur Messenger
يُبَيِّنُyubayyinuhe makes clear
لَكُمْlakumto you
عَلَىٰʿalā[on]
فَتْرَةٍۢfatratin(after) an interval (of cessation)
مِّنَminaof
ٱلرُّسُلِl-rusulithe Messengers
أَنanlest
تَقُولُوا۟taqūlūyou say
مَاmāNot
جَآءَنَاjāanā(has) come to us
مِنۢminany
بَشِيرٍۢbashīrinbearer of glad tidings
وَلَاwalāand not
نَذِيرٍۢ ۖnadhīrina warner
فَقَدْfaqadBut surely
جَآءَكُمjāakumhas come to you
بَشِيرٌۭbashīruna bearer of glad tidings
وَنَذِيرٌۭ ۗwanadhīrunand a warner
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
عَلَىٰʿalā(is) on
كُلِّkullievery
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
قَدِيرٌۭqadīrunAll-Powerful

Translation

O People (of) the Book Surely has come to you Our Messenger he makes clear to you [on] (after) an interval (of cessation) of the Messengers lest you say Not (has) come to us any bearer of glad tidings and not a warner But surely has come to you a bearer of glad tidings and a warner And Allah (is) on every thing All-Powerful

Verse 20

وَإِذْwa-idhAnd when
قَالَqālasaid
مُوسَىٰmūsāMusa
لِقَوْمِهِۦliqawmihito his people
يَـٰقَوْمِyāqawmiO my people
ٱذْكُرُوا۟udh'kurūremember
نِعْمَةَniʿ'mata(the) Favor
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon you
إِذْidhwhen
جَعَلَjaʿalaHe placed
فِيكُمْfīkumamong you
أَنۢبِيَآءَanbiyāaProphets
وَجَعَلَكُمwajaʿalakumand made you
مُّلُوكًۭاmulūkankings
وَءَاتَىٰكُمwaātākumand He gave you
مَّاmāwhat
لَمْlamnot
يُؤْتِyu'tiHe (had) given
أَحَدًۭاaḥadan(to) anyone
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds

Translation

And when said Musa to his people O my people remember (the) Favor (of) Allah upon you when He placed among you Prophets and made you kings and He gave you what not He (had) given (to) anyone from the worlds

Verse 21

يَـٰقَوْمِyāqawmiO my people
ٱدْخُلُوا۟ud'khulūEnter
ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe land
ٱلْمُقَدَّسَةَl-muqadasatathe Holy
ٱلَّتِىallatīwhich
كَتَبَkataba(has been) ordained
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allah
لَكُمْlakumfor you
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تَرْتَدُّوا۟tartaddūturn
عَلَىٰٓʿalāon
أَدْبَارِكُمْadbārikumyour backs
فَتَنقَلِبُوا۟fatanqalibūthen you will turn back
خَـٰسِرِينَkhāsirīna(as) losers

Translation

O my people Enter the land the Holy which (has been) ordained (by) Allah for you and (do) not turn on your backs then you will turn back (as) losers

Verse 22

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓyāmūsāO Musa
إِنَّinnaIndeed
فِيهَاfīhāin it
قَوْمًۭاqawman(are) people
جَبَّارِينَjabbārīna(of) tyrannical strength
وَإِنَّاwa-innāand indeed, we
لَنlannever
نَّدْخُلَهَاnadkhulahāwill enter it
حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
يَخْرُجُوا۟yakhrujūthey leave
مِنْهَاmin'hāfrom it
فَإِنfa-inand if
يَخْرُجُوا۟yakhrujūthey leave
مِنْهَاmin'hā[from] it
فَإِنَّاfa-innāthen certainly we (will)
دَٰخِلُونَdākhilūnaenter (it)

Translation

They said O Musa Indeed in it (are) people (of) tyrannical strength and indeed, we never will enter it until they leave from it and if they leave [from] it then certainly we (will) enter (it)

Verse 23

قَالَqālaSaid
رَجُلَانِrajulānitwo men
مِنَminafrom
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
يَخَافُونَyakhāfūnafeared (Allah)
أَنْعَمَanʿama(had) favored
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
عَلَيْهِمَاʿalayhimā[on] both of them
ٱدْخُلُوا۟ud'khulūEnter
عَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimuupon them
ٱلْبَابَl-bāba(through) the gate
فَإِذَاfa-idhāthen when
دَخَلْتُمُوهُdakhaltumūhuyou have entered it
فَإِنَّكُمْfa-innakumthen indeed, you (will be)
غَـٰلِبُونَ ۚghālibūnavictorious
وَعَلَىwaʿalāAnd upon
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
فَتَوَكَّلُوٓا۟fatawakkalūthen put your trust
إِنinif
كُنتُمkuntumyou are
مُّؤْمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers

Translation

Said two men from those who feared (Allah) (had) favored Allah [on] both of them Enter upon them (through) the gate then when you have entered it then indeed, you (will be) victorious And upon Allah then put your trust if you are believers

Verse 24

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓyāmūsāO Musa
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, we
لَنlannever
نَّدْخُلَهَآnadkhulahāwill enter it
أَبَدًۭاabadanever
مَّاmāfor
دَامُوا۟dāmūas long as they are
فِيهَا ۖfīhāin it
فَٱذْهَبْfa-idh'habSo go
أَنتَantayou
وَرَبُّكَwarabbukaand your Lord
فَقَـٰتِلَآfaqātilāand you both fight
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, we
هَـٰهُنَاhāhunāare [here]
قَـٰعِدُونَqāʿidūnasitting

Translation

They said O Musa Indeed, we never will enter it ever for as long as they are in it So go you and your Lord and you both fight Indeed, we are [here] sitting

Verse 25

قَالَqālaHe said
رَبِّrabbiO my Lord
إِنِّىinnīIndeed, I
لَآlā(do) not
أَمْلِكُamliku(have) power
إِلَّاillāexcept
نَفْسِىnafsī(over) myself
وَأَخِى ۖwa-akhīand my brother
فَٱفْرُقْfa-uf'ruqso (make a) separation
بَيْنَنَاbaynanābetween us
وَبَيْنَwabaynaand between
ٱلْقَوْمِl-qawmithe people
ٱلْفَـٰسِقِينَl-fāsiqīna(the) defiantly disobedient

Translation

He said O my Lord Indeed, I (do) not (have) power except (over) myself and my brother so (make a) separation between us and between the people (the) defiantly disobedient

Verse 26

قَالَqāla(Allah) said
فَإِنَّهَاfa-innahāThen indeed it
مُحَرَّمَةٌmuḥarramatun(will be) forbidden
عَلَيْهِمْ ۛʿalayhimto them
أَرْبَعِينَarbaʿīna(for) forty
سَنَةًۭ ۛsanatanyears
يَتِيهُونَyatīhūnathey will wander
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚl-arḍithe earth
فَلَاfalāSo (do) not
تَأْسَtasagrieve
عَلَىʿalāover
ٱلْقَوْمِl-qawmithe people
ٱلْفَـٰسِقِينَl-fāsiqīnathe defiantly disobedient

Translation

(Allah) said Then indeed it (will be) forbidden to them (for) forty years they will wander in the earth So (do) not grieve over the people the defiantly disobedient

Verse 27

۞ وَٱتْلُwa-ut'luAnd recite
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto them
نَبَأَnaba-athe story
ٱبْنَىْib'nay(of) two sons
ءَادَمَādama(of) Adam
بِٱلْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin truth
إِذْidhwhen
قَرَّبَاqarrabāboth offered
قُرْبَانًۭاqur'bānana sacrifice
فَتُقُبِّلَfatuqubbilaand it was accepted
مِنْminfrom
أَحَدِهِمَاaḥadihimāone of them
وَلَمْwalamand not
يُتَقَبَّلْyutaqabbalwas accepted
مِنَminafrom
ٱلْـَٔاخَرِl-ākharithe other
قَالَqālaSaid (the latter)
لَأَقْتُلَنَّكَ ۖla-aqtulannakaSurely I will kill you
قَالَqālaSaid (the former)
إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
يَتَقَبَّلُyataqabbaluaccepts
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(does) Allah
مِنَminafrom
ٱلْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīnathe God fearing

Translation

And recite to them the story (of) two sons (of) Adam in truth when both offered a sacrifice and it was accepted from one of them and not was accepted from the other Said (the latter) Surely I will kill you Said (the former) Only accepts (does) Allah from the God fearing

Verse 28

لَئِنۢla-inIf
بَسَطتَbasaṭtayou stretch
إِلَىَّilayyatowards me
يَدَكَyadakayour hand
لِتَقْتُلَنِىlitaqtulanīto kill me
مَآmānot
أَنَا۠anāwill I
بِبَاسِطٍۢbibāsiṭinstretch
يَدِىَyadiyamy hand
إِلَيْكَilaykatowards you
لِأَقْتُلَكَ ۖli-aqtulakato kill you
إِنِّىٓinnīindeed I
أَخَافُakhāfufear
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
رَبَّrabba(the) Lord
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds

Translation

If you stretch towards me your hand to kill me not will I stretch my hand towards you to kill you indeed I fear Allah (the) Lord (of) the worlds

Verse 29

إِنِّىٓinnīIndeed, I
أُرِيدُurīduwish
أَنanthat
تَبُوٓأَtabūayou be laden
بِإِثْمِىbi-ith'mīwith my sin
وَإِثْمِكَwa-ith'mikaand your sin
فَتَكُونَfatakūnaso you will be
مِنْminamong
أَصْحَـٰبِaṣḥābi(the) companions
ٱلنَّارِ ۚl-nāri(of) the Fire
وَذَٰلِكَwadhālikaand that
جَزَٰٓؤُا۟jazāu(is the) recompense
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīna(of) the wrong-doers

Translation

Indeed, I wish that you be laden with my sin and your sin so you will be among (the) companions (of) the Fire and that (is the) recompense (of) the wrong-doers

Verse 30

فَطَوَّعَتْfaṭawwaʿatThen prompted
لَهُۥlahuto him
نَفْسُهُۥnafsuhuhis soul
قَتْلَqatla(to) kill
أَخِيهِakhīhihis brother
فَقَتَلَهُۥfaqatalahuso he killed him
فَأَصْبَحَfa-aṣbaḥaand became
مِنَminaof
ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَl-khāsirīnathe losers

Translation

Then prompted to him his soul (to) kill his brother so he killed him and became of the losers

Verse 31

فَبَعَثَfabaʿathaThen (was) sent
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allah
غُرَابًۭاghurābana crow
يَبْحَثُyabḥathuit (was) scratching
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
لِيُرِيَهُۥliyuriyahuto show him
كَيْفَkayfahow
يُوَٰرِىyuwārīto hide
سَوْءَةَsawata(the) dead body
أَخِيهِ ۚakhīhi(of) his brother
قَالَqālaHe said
يَـٰوَيْلَتَىٰٓyāwaylatāWoe to me
أَعَجَزْتُaʿajaztuAm I unable
أَنْanthat
أَكُونَakūnaI can be
مِثْلَmith'lalike
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
ٱلْغُرَابِl-ghurābi[the] crow
فَأُوَٰرِىَfa-uwāriyaand hide
سَوْءَةَsawata(the) dead body
أَخِى ۖakhī(of) my brother
فَأَصْبَحَfa-aṣbaḥaThen he became
مِنَminaof
ٱلنَّـٰدِمِينَl-nādimīnathe regretful

Translation

Then (was) sent (by) Allah a crow it (was) scratching in the earth to show him how to hide (the) dead body (of) his brother He said Woe to me Am I unable that I can be like this [the] crow and hide (the) dead body (of) my brother Then he became of the regretful

Verse 32

مِنْminFrom
أَجْلِajlitime
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
كَتَبْنَاkatabnāWe ordained
عَلَىٰʿalāon
بَنِىٓbanī(the) Children
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla(of) Israel
أَنَّهُۥannahuthat he
مَنmanwho
قَتَلَqatalakills
نَفْسًۢاnafsana soul
بِغَيْرِbighayriother than
نَفْسٍnafsin(for) a soul
أَوْawor
فَسَادٍۢfasādin(for) spreading corruption
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
فَكَأَنَّمَاfaka-annamāthen (it) is as if
قَتَلَqatalahe has killed
ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsamankind
جَمِيعًۭاjamīʿanall
وَمَنْwamanand whoever
أَحْيَاهَاaḥyāhāsaves it
فَكَأَنَّمَآfaka-annamāthen (it) is as if
أَحْيَاaḥyāhe has saved
ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsamankind
جَمِيعًۭا ۚjamīʿanall
وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd surely
جَآءَتْهُمْjāathumcame to them
رُسُلُنَاrusulunāOur Messengers
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِbil-bayinātiwith clear Signs
ثُمَّthummayet
إِنَّinnaindeed
كَثِيرًۭاkathīranmany
مِّنْهُمmin'humof them
بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
لَمُسْرِفُونَlamus'rifūna(are) surely those who commit excesses

Translation

From time that We ordained on (the) Children (of) Israel that he who kills a soul other than (for) a soul or (for) spreading corruption in the earth then (it) is as if he has killed mankind all and whoever saves it then (it) is as if he has saved mankind all And surely came to them Our Messengers with clear Signs yet indeed many of them after that in the earth (are) surely those who commit excesses

Verse 33

إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
جَزَٰٓؤُا۟jazāu(the) recompense
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(for) those who
يُحَارِبُونَyuḥāribūnawage war
ٱللَّهَl-laha(against) Allah
وَرَسُولَهُۥwarasūlahuand His Messenger
وَيَسْعَوْنَwayasʿawnaand strive
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
فَسَادًاfasādanspreading corruption
أَنan(is) that
يُقَتَّلُوٓا۟yuqattalūthey be killed
أَوْawor
يُصَلَّبُوٓا۟yuṣallabūthey be crucified
أَوْawor
تُقَطَّعَtuqaṭṭaʿabe cut off
أَيْدِيهِمْaydīhimtheir hands
وَأَرْجُلُهُمwa-arjuluhumand their feet
مِّنْminof
خِلَـٰفٍkhilāfinopposite sides
أَوْawor
يُنفَوْا۟yunfawthey be exiled
مِنَminafrom
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚl-arḍithe land
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
لَهُمْlahum(is) for them
خِزْىٌۭkhiz'yundisgrace
فِىfīin
ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖl-dun'yāthe world
وَلَهُمْwalahumand for them
فِىfīin
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhiratithe Hereafter
عَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishment
عَظِيمٌʿaẓīmungreat

Translation

Only (the) recompense (for) those who wage war (against) Allah and His Messenger and strive in the earth spreading corruption (is) that they be killed or they be crucified or be cut off their hands and their feet of opposite sides or they be exiled from the land That (is) for them disgrace in the world and for them in the Hereafter (is) a punishment great

Verse 34

إِلَّاillāExcept
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
تَابُوا۟tābūrepent
مِنminfrom
قَبْلِqablibefore
أَنanthat
تَقْدِرُوا۟taqdirūyou overpower
عَلَيْهِمْ ۖʿalayhim[over] them
فَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟fa-iʿ'lamūthen know
أَنَّannathat
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
غَفُورٌۭghafūrun(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭraḥīmunMost Merciful

Translation

Except those who repent from before that you overpower [over] them then know that Allah (is) Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful

Verse 35

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
ٱتَّقُوا۟ittaqūFear
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
وَٱبْتَغُوٓا۟wa-ib'taghūand seek
إِلَيْهِilayhitowards Him
ٱلْوَسِيلَةَl-wasīlatathe means
وَجَـٰهِدُوا۟wajāhidūand strive hard
فِىfīin
سَبِيلِهِۦsabīlihiHis way
لَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you may
تُفْلِحُونَtuf'liḥūnasucceed

Translation

O you who believe Fear Allah and seek towards Him the means and strive hard in His way so that you may succeed

Verse 36

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
لَوْlawif
أَنَّannathat
لَهُمlahumfor them
مَّاmā(is) what
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
جَمِيعًۭاjamīʿanall
وَمِثْلَهُۥwamith'lahuand the like of it
مَعَهُۥmaʿahuwith it
لِيَفْتَدُوا۟liyaftadūto ransom themselves
بِهِۦbihiwith it
مِنْminfrom
عَذَابِʿadhābi(the) punishment
يَوْمِyawmi(of the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
مَاmānot
تُقُبِّلَtuqubbilawill be accepted
مِنْهُمْ ۖmin'humfrom them
وَلَهُمْwalahumand for them
عَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishment
أَلِيمٌۭalīmunpainful

Translation

Indeed those who disbelieve if that for them (is) what (is) in the earth all and the like of it with it to ransom themselves with it from (the) punishment (of the) Day (of) the Resurrection not will be accepted from them and for them (is) a punishment painful

Verse 37

يُرِيدُونَyurīdūnaThey will wish
أَنanthat
يَخْرُجُوا۟yakhrujūthey come out
مِنَminaof
ٱلنَّارِl-nārithe Fire
وَمَاwamābut not
هُمhumthey
بِخَـٰرِجِينَbikhārijīnawill come out
مِنْهَا ۖmin'hāof it
وَلَهُمْwalahumAnd for them
عَذَابٌۭʿadhābun(is) a punishment
مُّقِيمٌۭmuqīmunlasting

Translation

They will wish that they come out of the Fire but not they will come out of it And for them (is) a punishment lasting

Verse 38

وَٱلسَّارِقُwal-sāriquAnd (for) the male thief
وَٱلسَّارِقَةُwal-sāriqatuand the female thief
فَٱقْطَعُوٓا۟fa-iq'ṭaʿū[then] cut off
أَيْدِيَهُمَاaydiyahumātheir hands
جَزَآءًۢjazāan(as) a recompense
بِمَاbimāfor what
كَسَبَاkasabāthey earned
نَكَـٰلًۭاnakālan(as) an exemplary (punishment)
مِّنَminafrom
ٱللَّهِ ۗl-lahiAllah
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
عَزِيزٌʿazīzun(is) All-Mighty
حَكِيمٌۭḥakīmunAll-Wise

Translation

And (for) the male thief and the female thief [then] cut off their hands (as) a recompense for what they earned (as) an exemplary (punishment) from Allah And Allah (is) All-Mighty All-Wise

Verse 39

فَمَنfamanBut whoever
تَابَtābarepented
مِنۢminfrom
بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
ظُلْمِهِۦẓul'mihihis wrongdoing
وَأَصْلَحَwa-aṣlaḥaand reforms
فَإِنَّfa-innathen indeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يَتُوبُyatūbuwill turn in forgiveness
عَلَيْهِ ۗʿalayhito him
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
غَفُورٌۭghafūrun(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌraḥīmunMost Merciful

Translation

But whoever repented from after his wrongdoing and reforms then indeed Allah will turn in forgiveness to him Indeed Allah (is) Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful

Verse 40

أَلَمْalamDo not
تَعْلَمْtaʿlamyou know
أَنَّannathat
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لَهُۥlahuto Him (belongs)
مُلْكُmul'ku(the) dominion
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth
يُعَذِّبُyuʿadhibuHe punishes
مَنmanwhom
يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
وَيَغْفِرُwayaghfiruand He forgives
لِمَنliman[to] whom
يَشَآءُ ۗyashāuHe wills
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
عَلَىٰʿalā(is) on
كُلِّkullievery
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
قَدِيرٌۭqadīrunAll-Powerful

Translation

Do not you know that Allah to Him (belongs) (the) dominion (of) the heavens and the earth He punishes whom He wills and He forgives [to] whom He wills And Allah (is) on every thing All-Powerful

Verse 41

۞ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO
ٱلرَّسُولُl-rasūluMessenger
لَاlāLet not
يَحْزُنكَyaḥzunkagrieve you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
يُسَـٰرِعُونَyusāriʿūnahasten
فِىfīin (to)
ٱلْكُفْرِl-kuf'ri[the] disbelief
مِنَminaof
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
قَالُوٓا۟qālūsaid
ءَامَنَّاāmannāWe believe
بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْbi-afwāhihimwith their mouths
وَلَمْwalamand not
تُؤْمِنtu'minbelieve
قُلُوبُهُمْ ۛqulūbuhumtheir hearts
وَمِنَwaminaand from
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
هَادُوا۟ ۛhādū(are) Jews
سَمَّـٰعُونَsammāʿūnaThey (are) listeners
لِلْكَذِبِlil'kadhibito falsehood
سَمَّـٰعُونَsammāʿūna(and) listeners
لِقَوْمٍliqawminfor people
ءَاخَرِينَākharīnaother
لَمْlam(who have) not
يَأْتُوكَ ۖyatūkacome to you
يُحَرِّفُونَyuḥarrifūnaThey distort
ٱلْكَلِمَl-kalimathe words
مِنۢminfrom
بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
مَوَاضِعِهِۦ ۖmawāḍiʿihitheir context
يَقُولُونَyaqūlūnasaying
إِنْinIf
أُوتِيتُمْūtītumyou are given
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
فَخُذُوهُfakhudhūhu[so] take it
وَإِنwa-inbut if
لَّمْlamnot
تُؤْتَوْهُtu'tawhuyou are given it
فَٱحْذَرُوا۟ ۚfa-iḥ'dharūthen beware
وَمَنwamanAnd (for) whom
يُرِدِyuridiintends
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
فِتْنَتَهُۥfit'natahuhis trial
فَلَنfalanthen never
تَمْلِكَtamlikawill you have power
لَهُۥlahufor him
مِنَminaagainst
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
شَيْـًٔا ۚshayananything
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(are) the ones
لَمْlamnever
يُرِدِyuridiwill intend
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
أَنanthat
يُطَهِّرَyuṭahhiraHe purifies
قُلُوبَهُمْ ۚqulūbahumtheir hearts
لَهُمْlahumFor them
فِىfīin
ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāthe world
خِزْىٌۭ ۖkhiz'yun(is) disgrace
وَلَهُمْwalahumand for them
فِىfīin
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhiratithe Hereafter
عَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishment
عَظِيمٌۭʿaẓīmungreat

Translation

O Messenger Let not grieve you those who hasten in (to) [the] disbelief of those who said We believe with their mouths and not believe their hearts and from those who (are) Jews They (are) listeners to falsehood (and) listeners for people other (who have) not come to you They distort the words from after their context saying If you are given this [so] take it but if not you are given it then beware And (for) whom intends Allah his trial then never will you have power for him against Allah anything Those (are) the ones never will intend Allah that He purifies their hearts For them in the world (is) disgrace and for them in the Hereafter (is) a punishment great

Verse 42

سَمَّـٰعُونَsammāʿūnaListeners
لِلْكَذِبِlil'kadhibito [the] falsehood
أَكَّـٰلُونَakkālūnadevourers
لِلسُّحْتِ ۚlilssuḥ'tiof the forbidden
فَإِنfa-inSo if
جَآءُوكَjāūkathey come to you
فَٱحْكُمfa-uḥ'kumthen judge
بَيْنَهُمْbaynahumbetween them
أَوْawor
أَعْرِضْaʿriḍturn away
عَنْهُمْ ۖʿanhumfrom them
وَإِنwa-inAnd if
تُعْرِضْtuʿ'riḍyou turn away
عَنْهُمْʿanhumfrom them
فَلَنfalanthen never
يَضُرُّوكَyaḍurrūkawill they harm you
شَيْـًۭٔا ۖshayan(in) anything
وَإِنْwa-inAnd if
حَكَمْتَḥakamtayou judge
فَٱحْكُمfa-uḥ'kumthen judge
بَيْنَهُمbaynahumbetween them
بِٱلْقِسْطِ ۚbil-qis'ṭiwith [the] justice
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يُحِبُّyuḥibbuloves
ٱلْمُقْسِطِينَl-muq'siṭīnathe ones who are just

Translation

Listeners to [the] falsehood devourers of the forbidden So if they come to you then judge between them or turn away from them And if you turn away from them then never will they harm you (in) anything And if you judge then judge between them with [the] justice Indeed Allah loves the ones who are just

Verse 43

وَكَيْفَwakayfaBut how can
يُحَكِّمُونَكَyuḥakkimūnakathey appoint you a judge
وَعِندَهُمُwaʿindahumuwhile they (have) with them
ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةُl-tawrātuthe Taurat
فِيهَاfīhāin it
حُكْمُḥuk'mu(is the) Command
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
ثُمَّthummaThen
يَتَوَلَّوْنَyatawallawnathey turn away
مِنۢminfrom
بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
ذَٰلِكَ ۚdhālikathat
وَمَآwamāand not
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikathose
بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَbil-mu'minīna(are) the believers

Translation

But how can they appoint you a judge while they (have) with them the Taurat in it (is the) Command (of) Allah Then they turn away from after that and not those (are) the believers

Verse 44

إِنَّآinnāIndeed
أَنزَلْنَاanzalnāWe revealed
ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَl-tawrātathe Taurat
فِيهَاfīhāin it
هُدًۭىhudan(was) Guidance
وَنُورٌۭ ۚwanūrunand light
يَحْكُمُyaḥkumujudged
بِهَاbihāby it
ٱلنَّبِيُّونَl-nabiyūnathe Prophets
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
أَسْلَمُوا۟aslamūhad submitted (to Allah)
لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those who
هَادُوا۟hādūwere Jews
وَٱلرَّبَّـٰنِيُّونَwal-rabāniyūnaand the Rabbis
وَٱلْأَحْبَارُwal-aḥbāruand the scholars
بِمَاbimāwith what
ٱسْتُحْفِظُوا۟us'tuḥ'fiẓūthey were entrusted
مِنminof
كِتَـٰبِkitābi(the) Book
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
وَكَانُوا۟wakānūand they were
عَلَيْهِʿalayhito it
شُهَدَآءَ ۚshuhadāawitnesses
فَلَاfalāSo (do) not
تَخْشَوُا۟takhshawūfear
ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsathe people
وَٱخْشَوْنِwa-ikh'shawnibut fear Me
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تَشْتَرُوا۟tashtarūsell
بِـَٔايَـٰتِىbiāyātīMy Verses
ثَمَنًۭاthamanan(for) a price
قَلِيلًۭا ۚqalīlanlittle
وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
لَّمْlam(does) not
يَحْكُمyaḥkumjudge
بِمَآbimāby what
أَنزَلَanzalahas revealed
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikathen those
هُمُhumu[they]
ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَl-kāfirūna(are) the disbelievers

Translation

Indeed We revealed the Taurat in it (was) Guidance and light judged by it the Prophets those who had submitted (to Allah) for those who were Jews and the Rabbis and the scholars with what they were entrusted of (the) Book (of) Allah and they were to it witnesses So (do) not fear the people but fear Me and (do) not sell My Verses (for) a price little And whoever (does) not judge by what has revealed Allah then those [they] (are) the disbelievers

Verse 45

وَكَتَبْنَاwakatabnāAnd We ordained
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimfor them
فِيهَآfīhāin it
أَنَّannathat
ٱلنَّفْسَl-nafsathe life
بِٱلنَّفْسِbil-nafsifor the life
وَٱلْعَيْنَwal-ʿaynaand the eye
بِٱلْعَيْنِbil-ʿaynifor the eye
وَٱلْأَنفَwal-anfaand the nose
بِٱلْأَنفِbil-anfifor the nose
وَٱلْأُذُنَwal-udhunaand the ear
بِٱلْأُذُنِbil-udhunifor the ear
وَٱلسِّنَّwal-sinaand the tooth
بِٱلسِّنِّbil-sinifor the tooth
وَٱلْجُرُوحَwal-jurūḥaand (for) wounds
قِصَاصٌۭ ۚqiṣāṣun(is) retribution
فَمَنfamanBut whoever
تَصَدَّقَtaṣaddaqagives charity
بِهِۦbihiwith it
فَهُوَfahuwathen it is
كَفَّارَةٌۭkaffāratunan expiation
لَّهُۥ ۚlahufor him
وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
لَّمْlam(does) not
يَحْكُمyaḥkumjudge
بِمَآbimāby what
أَنزَلَanzalahas revealed
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikathen those
هُمُhumu[they]
ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَl-ẓālimūna(are) the wrongdoers

Translation

And We ordained for them in it that the life for the life and the eye for the eye and the nose for the nose and the ear for the ear and the tooth for the tooth and (for) wounds (is) retribution But whoever gives charity with it then it is an expiation for him And whoever (does) not judge by what has revealed Allah then those [they] (are) the wrongdoers

Verse 46

وَقَفَّيْنَاwaqaffaynāAnd We sent
عَلَىٰٓʿalāon
ءَاثَـٰرِهِمāthārihimtheir footsteps
بِعِيسَىbiʿīsāIsa
ٱبْنِib'nison
مَرْيَمَmaryama(of) Maryam
مُصَدِّقًۭاmuṣaddiqanconfirming
لِّمَاlimāwhat
بَيْنَbayna(was) between
يَدَيْهِyadayhihis hands
مِنَminaof
ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ ۖl-tawrātithe Taurat
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُwaātaynāhuand We gave him
ٱلْإِنجِيلَl-injīlathe Injeel
فِيهِfīhiin it
هُدًۭىhudan(was) Guidance
وَنُورٌۭwanūrunand light
وَمُصَدِّقًۭاwamuṣaddiqanand confirming
لِّمَاlimāwhat
بَيْنَbayna(was) between
يَدَيْهِyadayhihis hands
مِنَminaof
ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِl-tawrātithe Taurat
وَهُدًۭىwahudanand a Guidance
وَمَوْعِظَةًۭwamawʿiẓatanand an admonition
لِّلْمُتَّقِينَlil'muttaqīnafor the God conscious

Translation

And We sent on their footsteps Isa son (of) Maryam confirming what (was) between his hands of the Taurat and We gave him the Injeel in it (was) Guidance and light and confirming what (was) between his hands of the Taurat and a Guidance and an admonition for the God conscious

Verse 47

وَلْيَحْكُمْwalyaḥkumAnd let judge
أَهْلُahlu(the) People
ٱلْإِنجِيلِl-injīli(of) the Injeel
بِمَآbimāby what
أَنزَلَanzalahas revealed
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
فِيهِ ۚfīhiin it
وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
لَّمْlam(does) not
يَحْكُمyaḥkumjudge
بِمَآbimāby what
أَنزَلَanzalahas revealed
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikathen those
هُمُhumu[they] (are)
ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَl-fāsiqūnathe defiantly disobedient

Translation

And let judge (the) People (of) the Injeel by what has revealed Allah in it And whoever (does) not judge by what has revealed Allah then those [they] (are) the defiantly disobedient

Verse 48

وَأَنزَلْنَآwa-anzalnāAnd We revealed
إِلَيْكَilaykato you
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
بِٱلْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin [the] truth
مُصَدِّقًۭاmuṣaddiqanconfirming
لِّمَاlimāwhat
بَيْنَbayna(was) before
يَدَيْهِyadayhihis hands
مِنَminaof
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābithe Book
وَمُهَيْمِنًاwamuhayminanand a guardian
عَلَيْهِ ۖʿalayhiover it
فَٱحْكُمfa-uḥ'kumSo judge
بَيْنَهُمbaynahumbetween them
بِمَآbimāby what
أَنزَلَanzalahas revealed
ٱللَّهُ ۖl-lahuAllah
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تَتَّبِعْtattabiʿfollow
أَهْوَآءَهُمْahwāahumtheir vain desires
عَمَّاʿammāwhen
جَآءَكَjāakahas come to you
مِنَminaof
ٱلْحَقِّ ۚl-ḥaqithe truth
لِكُلٍّۢlikullinFor each
جَعَلْنَاjaʿalnāWe have made
مِنكُمْminkumfor you
شِرْعَةًۭshir'ʿatana law
وَمِنْهَاجًۭا ۚwamin'hājanand a clear way
وَلَوْwalawAnd if
شَآءَshāa(had) willed
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
لَجَعَلَكُمْlajaʿalakumHe (would have) made you
أُمَّةًۭummatana community
وَٰحِدَةًۭwāḥidatanone
وَلَـٰكِنwalākin[and] but
لِّيَبْلُوَكُمْliyabluwakumto test you
فِىfīin
مَآmāwhat
ءَاتَىٰكُمْ ۖātākumHe (has) given you
فَٱسْتَبِقُوا۟fa-is'tabiqūso race
ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ ۚl-khayrāti(to) the good
إِلَىilāTo
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
مَرْجِعُكُمْmarjiʿukumyou will return
جَمِيعًۭاjamīʿanall
فَيُنَبِّئُكُمfayunabbi-ukumthen He will inform you
بِمَاbimāof what
كُنتُمْkuntumyou were
فِيهِfīhiconcerning it
تَخْتَلِفُونَtakhtalifūnadiffering

Translation

And We revealed to you the Book in [the] truth confirming what (was) before his hands of the Book and a guardian over it So judge between them by what has revealed Allah and (do) not follow their vain desires when has come to you of the truth For each We have made for you a law and a clear way And if (had) willed Allah He (would have) made you a community one [and] but to test you in what He (has) given you so race (to) the good To Allah you will return all then He will inform you of what you were concerning it differing

Verse 49

وَأَنِwa-aniAnd that
ٱحْكُمuḥ'kumyou judge
بَيْنَهُمbaynahumbetween them
بِمَآbimāby what
أَنزَلَanzala(has) revealed
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تَتَّبِعْtattabiʿfollow
أَهْوَآءَهُمْahwāahumtheir vain desires
وَٱحْذَرْهُمْwa-iḥ'dharhumand beware of them
أَنanlest
يَفْتِنُوكَyaftinūkathey tempt you away
عَنۢʿanfrom
بَعْضِbaʿḍisome
مَآmā(of) what
أَنزَلَanzalahas revealed
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
إِلَيْكَ ۖilaykato you
فَإِنfa-inAnd if
تَوَلَّوْا۟tawallawthey turn away
فَٱعْلَمْfa-iʿ'lamthen know that
أَنَّمَاannamāonly
يُرِيدُyurīduintends
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
أَنanto
يُصِيبَهُمyuṣībahumafflict them
بِبَعْضِbibaʿḍifor some
ذُنُوبِهِمْ ۗdhunūbihim(of) their sins
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
كَثِيرًۭاkathīranmany
مِّنَminaof
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsithe people
لَفَـٰسِقُونَlafāsiqūna(are) defiantly disobedient

Translation

And that you judge between them by what (has) revealed Allah and (do) not follow their vain desires and beware of them lest they tempt you away from some (of) what has revealed Allah to you And if they turn away then know that only intends Allah to afflict them for some (of) their sins And indeed many of the people (are) defiantly disobedient

Verse 50

أَفَحُكْمَafaḥuk'maIs it then the judgment
ٱلْجَـٰهِلِيَّةِl-jāhiliyati(of the time of) ignorance
يَبْغُونَ ۚyabghūnathey seek
وَمَنْwamanAnd who (is)
أَحْسَنُaḥsanubetter
مِنَminathan
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
حُكْمًۭاḥuk'man(in) judgment
لِّقَوْمٍۢliqawminfor a people
يُوقِنُونَyūqinūna(who) firmly believe

Translation

Is it then the judgment (of the time of) ignorance they seek And who (is) better than Allah (in) judgment for a people (who) firmly believe

Verse 51

۞ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
لَاlā(Do) not
تَتَّخِذُوا۟tattakhidhūtake
ٱلْيَهُودَl-yahūdathe Jews
وَٱلنَّصَـٰرَىٰٓwal-naṣārāand the Christians
أَوْلِيَآءَ ۘawliyāa(as) allies
بَعْضُهُمْbaʿḍuhumSome of them
أَوْلِيَآءُawliyāu(are) allies
بَعْضٍۢ ۚbaʿḍin(to) others
وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
يَتَوَلَّهُمyatawallahumtakes them as allies
مِّنكُمْminkumamong you
فَإِنَّهُۥfa-innahuthen indeed, he
مِنْهُمْ ۗmin'hum(is) of them
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لَاlā(does) not
يَهْدِىyahdīguide
ٱلْقَوْمَl-qawmathe people
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoing

Translation

O you who believe (Do) not take the Jews and the Christians (as) allies Some of them (are) allies (to) others And whoever takes them as allies among you then indeed, he (is) of them Indeed Allah (does) not guide the people the wrongdoing

Verse 52

فَتَرَىfatarāAnd you see
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose
فِىfīin
قُلُوبِهِمqulūbihimtheir hearts
مَّرَضٌۭmaraḍun(is) a disease
يُسَـٰرِعُونَyusāriʿūnathey hasten
فِيهِمْfīhimto them
يَقُولُونَyaqūlūnasaying
نَخْشَىٰٓnakhshāWe fear
أَنanthat
تُصِيبَنَاtuṣībanā(may) strike us
دَآئِرَ ةٌۭ ۚdāiratuna misfortune
فَعَسَىfaʿasāBut perhaps
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
أَنan[that]
يَأْتِىَyatiyawill bring
بِٱلْفَتْحِbil-fatḥithe victory
أَوْawor
أَمْرٍۢamrina decision
مِّنْminfrom
عِندِهِۦʿindihi(of) Him
فَيُصْبِحُوا۟fayuṣ'biḥūThen they will become
عَلَىٰʿalāfor
مَآmāwhat
أَسَرُّوا۟asarrūthey had concealed
فِىٓfīwithin
أَنفُسِهِمْanfusihimthemselves
نَـٰدِمِينَnādimīnaregretful

Translation

And you see those in their hearts (is) a disease they hasten to them saying We fear that (may) strike us a misfortune But perhaps Allah [that] will bring the victory or a decision from (of) Him Then they will become for what they had concealed within themselves regretful

Verse 53

وَيَقُولُwayaqūluAnd will say
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوٓا۟āmanūbelieve
أَهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِahāulāiAre these
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
أَقْسَمُوا۟aqsamūswore
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiby Allah
جَهْدَjahdastrongest
أَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ ۙaymānihim(of) their oaths
إِنَّهُمْinnahumindeed, they
لَمَعَكُمْ ۚlamaʿakum(were) with you
حَبِطَتْḥabiṭatBecame worthless
أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْaʿmāluhumtheir deeds
فَأَصْبَحُوا۟fa-aṣbaḥūand they became
خَـٰسِرِينَkhāsirīna(the) losers

Translation

And will say those who believe Are these those who swore by Allah strongest (of) their oaths indeed, they (were) with you Became worthless their deeds and they became (the) losers

Verse 54

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
مَنmanWhoever
يَرْتَدَّyartaddaturns back
مِنكُمْminkumamong you
عَنʿanfrom
دِينِهِۦdīnihihis religion
فَسَوْفَfasawfathen soon
يَأْتِىyatī(will be) brought
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allah
بِقَوْمٍۢbiqawmina people
يُحِبُّهُمْyuḥibbuhumwhom He loves
وَيُحِبُّونَهُۥٓwayuḥibbūnahuand they love Him
أَذِلَّةٍadhillatinhumble
عَلَىʿalātowards
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers
أَعِزَّةٍaʿizzatin(and) stern
عَلَىʿalātowards
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelievers
يُجَـٰهِدُونَyujāhidūnastriving
فِىfīin
سَبِيلِsabīli(the) way
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
وَلَاwalāand not
يَخَافُونَyakhāfūnafearing
لَوْمَةَlawmatathe blame
لَآئِمٍۢ ۚlāimin(of) a critic
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
فَضْلُfaḍlu(is the) Grace
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
يُؤْتِيهِyu'tīhiHe grants
مَنmanwhom
يَشَآءُ ۚyashāuHe wills
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
وَٰسِعٌwāsiʿun(is) All-Encompassing
عَلِيمٌʿalīmunAll-Knowing

Translation

O you who believe Whoever turns back among you from his religion then soon (will be) brought (by) Allah a people whom He loves and they love Him humble towards the believers (and) stern towards the disbelievers striving in (the) way (of) Allah and not fearing the blame (of) a critic That (is the) Grace (of) Allah He grants whom He wills And Allah (is) All-Encompassing All-Knowing

Verse 55

إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
وَلِيُّكُمُwaliyyukumuyour ally
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(is) Allah
وَرَسُولُهُۥwarasūluhuand His Messenger
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaand those who
يُقِيمُونَyuqīmūnaestablish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَl-ṣalatathe prayer
وَيُؤْتُونَwayu'tūnaand give
ٱلزَّكَوٰةَl-zakatazakah
وَهُمْwahumand they
رَٰكِعُونَrākiʿūna(are) those who bow down

Translation

Only your ally (is) Allah and His Messenger and those who believe and those who establish the prayer and give zakah and they (are) those who bow down

Verse 56

وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
يَتَوَلَّyatawallatakes as an ally
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
وَرَسُولَهُۥwarasūlahuand His Messenger
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
فَإِنَّfa-innathen indeed
حِزْبَḥiz'ba(the) party
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
هُمُhumuthey
ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَl-ghālibūna(are) the victorious

Translation

And whoever takes as an ally Allah and His Messenger and those who believe then indeed (the) party (of) Allah they (are) the victorious

Verse 57

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
لَاlā(Do) not
تَتَّخِذُوا۟tattakhidhūtake
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ittakhadhūtake
دِينَكُمْdīnakumyour religion
هُزُوًۭاhuzuwan(in) ridicule
وَلَعِبًۭاwalaʿibanand fun
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
أُوتُوا۟ūtūare given
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
مِنminfrom
قَبْلِكُمْqablikumbefore you
وَٱلْكُفَّارَwal-kufāraand the disbelievers
أَوْلِيَآءَ ۚawliyāa(as) allies
وَٱتَّقُوا۟wa-ittaqūAnd fear
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
إِنinif
كُنتُمkuntumyou are
مُّؤْمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers

Translation

O you who believe (Do) not take those who take your religion (in) ridicule and fun from those who are given the Book from before you and the disbelievers (as) allies And fear Allah if you are believers

Verse 58

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
نَادَيْتُمْnādaytumyou make a call
إِلَىilāfor
ٱلصَّلَوٰةِl-ṣalatithe prayer
ٱتَّخَذُوهَاittakhadhūhāthey take it
هُزُوًۭاhuzuwan(in) ridicule
وَلَعِبًۭا ۚwalaʿibanand fun
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
بِأَنَّهُمْbi-annahum(is) because they
قَوْمٌۭqawmun(are) a people
لَّاlā(who do) not
يَعْقِلُونَyaʿqilūnaunderstand

Translation

And when you make a call for the prayer they take it (in) ridicule and fun That (is) because they (are) a people (who do) not understand

Verse 59

قُلْqulSay
يَـٰٓأَهْلَyāahlaO People
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
هَلْhalDo
تَنقِمُونَtanqimūnayou resent
مِنَّآminnā[of] us
إِلَّآillāexcept
أَنْanthat
ءَامَنَّاāmannāwe believe
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
وَمَآwamāand what
أُنزِلَunzilahas been revealed
إِلَيْنَاilaynāto us
وَمَآwamāand what
أُنزِلَunzilawas revealed
مِنminfrom
قَبْلُqablubefore
وَأَنَّwa-annaand that
أَكْثَرَكُمْaktharakummost of you
فَـٰسِقُونَfāsiqūna(are) defiantly disobedient

Translation

Say O People (of) the Book Do you resent [of] us except that we believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us and what was revealed from before and that most of you (are) defiantly disobedient

Verse 60

قُلْqulSay
هَلْhalShall
أُنَبِّئُكُمunabbi-ukumI inform you
بِشَرٍّۢbisharrin(of) worse
مِّنminthan
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
مَثُوبَةًmathūbatan(as) recompense
عِندَʿindafrom
ٱللَّهِ ۚl-lahiAllah
مَنmanWhom
لَّعَنَهُlaʿanahuhas (been) cursed
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allah
وَغَضِبَwaghaḍibaand He became angry
عَلَيْهِʿalayhiwith him
وَجَعَلَwajaʿalaand made
مِنْهُمُmin'humuof them
ٱلْقِرَدَةَl-qiradata[the] apes
وَٱلْخَنَازِيرَwal-khanāzīraand [the] swines
وَعَبَدَwaʿabadaand (who) worshipped
ٱلطَّـٰغُوتَ ۚl-ṭāghūtathe false deities
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose
شَرٌّۭsharrun(are) worse
مَّكَانًۭاmakānan(in) position
وَأَضَلُّwa-aḍalluand farthest astray
عَنʿanfrom
سَوَآءِsawāi(the) even
ٱلسَّبِيلِl-sabīliway

Translation

Say Shall I inform you (of) worse than that (as) recompense from Allah Whom has (been) cursed (by) Allah and He became angry with him and made of them [the] apes and [the] swines and (who) worshipped the false deities Those (are) worse (in) position and farthest astray from (the) even way

Verse 61

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
جَآءُوكُمْjāūkumthey come to you
قَالُوٓا۟qālūthey say
ءَامَنَّاāmannāWe believe
وَقَدwaqadBut certainly
دَّخَلُوا۟dakhalūthey entered
بِٱلْكُفْرِbil-kuf'riwith disbelief
وَهُمْwahumand they
قَدْqadcertainly
خَرَجُوا۟kharajūwent out
بِهِۦ ۚbihiwith it
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
أَعْلَمُaʿlamuknows best
بِمَاbimā[of] what
كَانُوا۟kānūthey were
يَكْتُمُونَyaktumūnahiding

Translation

And when they come to you they say We believe But certainly they entered with disbelief and they certainly went out with it And Allah knows best [of] what they were hiding

Verse 62

وَتَرَىٰwatarāAnd you see
كَثِيرًۭاkathīranmany
مِّنْهُمْmin'humof them
يُسَـٰرِعُونَyusāriʿūnahastening
فِىfīinto
ٱلْإِثْمِl-ith'mi[the] sin
وَٱلْعُدْوَٰنِwal-ʿud'wāniand [the] transgression
وَأَكْلِهِمُwa-aklihimuand eating
ٱلسُّحْتَ ۚl-suḥ'tathe forbidden
لَبِئْسَlabi'saSurely evil
مَاmā(is) what
كَانُوا۟kānūthey were
يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnadoing

Translation

And you see many of them hastening into [the] sin and [the] transgression and eating the forbidden Surely evil (is) what they were doing

Verse 63

لَوْلَاlawlāWhy (do) not
يَنْهَىٰهُمُyanhāhumuforbid them
ٱلرَّبَّـٰنِيُّونَl-rabāniyūnathe Rabbis
وَٱلْأَحْبَارُwal-aḥbāruand the religious scholars
عَنʿanfrom
قَوْلِهِمُqawlihimutheir saying
ٱلْإِثْمَl-ith'mathe sinful
وَأَكْلِهِمُwa-aklihimuand their eating
ٱلسُّحْتَ ۚl-suḥ'ta(of) the forbidden
لَبِئْسَlabi'saSurely, evil
مَاmā(is) what
كَانُوا۟kānūthey used to
يَصْنَعُونَyaṣnaʿūnado

Translation

Why (do) not forbid them the Rabbis and the religious scholars from their saying the sinful and their eating (of) the forbidden Surely, evil (is) what they used to do

Verse 64

وَقَالَتِwaqālatiAnd said
ٱلْيَهُودُl-yahūduthe Jews
يَدُyaduThe Hand
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
مَغْلُولَةٌ ۚmaghlūlatun(is) chained
غُلَّتْghullatAre chained
أَيْدِيهِمْaydīhimtheir hands
وَلُعِنُوا۟waluʿinūand they have been cursed
بِمَاbimāfor what
قَالُوا۟ ۘqālūthey said
بَلْbalNay
يَدَاهُyadāhuHis Hands
مَبْسُوطَتَانِmabsūṭatāni(are) stretched out
يُنفِقُyunfiquHe spends
كَيْفَkayfahow
يَشَآءُ ۚyashāuHe wills
وَلَيَزِيدَنَّwalayazīdannaAnd surely increase
كَثِيرًۭاkathīranmany
مِّنْهُمmin'humof them
مَّآmāwhat
أُنزِلَunzilahas been revealed
إِلَيْكَilaykato you
مِنminfrom
رَّبِّكَrabbikayour Lord
طُغْيَـٰنًۭاṭugh'yānan(in) rebellion
وَكُفْرًۭا ۚwakuf'ranand disbelief
وَأَلْقَيْنَاwa-alqaynāAnd We have cast
بَيْنَهُمُbaynahumuamong them
ٱلْعَدَٰوَةَl-ʿadāwata[the] enmity
وَٱلْبَغْضَآءَwal-baghḍāaand [the] hatred
إِلَىٰilātill
يَوْمِyawmi(the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۚl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
كُلَّمَآkullamāEvery time
أَوْقَدُوا۟awqadūthey kindled
نَارًۭاnāran(the) fire
لِّلْحَرْبِlil'ḥarbiof [the] war
أَطْفَأَهَاaṭfa-ahāit (was) extinguished
ٱللَّهُ ۚl-lahu(by) Allah
وَيَسْعَوْنَwayasʿawnaAnd they strive
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
فَسَادًۭا ۚfasādanspreading corruption
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
لَاlā(does) not
يُحِبُّyuḥibbulove
ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَl-muf'sidīnathe corrupters

Translation

And said the Jews The Hand (of) Allah (is) chained Are chained their hands and they have been cursed for what they said Nay His Hands (are) stretched out He spends how He wills And surely increase many of them what has been revealed to you from your Lord (in) rebellion and disbelief And We have cast among them [the] enmity and [the] hatred till (the) Day (of) the Resurrection Every time they kindled (the) fire of [the] war it (was) extinguished (by) Allah And they strive in the earth spreading corruption And Allah (does) not love the corrupters

Verse 65

وَلَوْwalawAnd if
أَنَّannathat
أَهْلَahla(the) People
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanū(had) believed
وَٱتَّقَوْا۟wa-ittaqawand feared (Allah)
لَكَفَّرْنَاlakaffarnāsurely We (would have) removed
عَنْهُمْʿanhumfrom them
سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْsayyiātihimtheir evil (deeds)
وَلَأَدْخَلْنَـٰهُمْwala-adkhalnāhumand surely We (would have) admitted them
جَنَّـٰتِjannāti(to) Gardens
ٱلنَّعِيمِl-naʿīmi(of) Bliss

Translation

And if that (the) People (of) the Book (had) believed and feared (Allah) surely We (would have) removed from them their evil (deeds) and surely We (would have) admitted them (to) Gardens (of) Bliss

Verse 66

وَلَوْwalawAnd if
أَنَّهُمْannahumthat they
أَقَامُوا۟aqāmūhad stood firmly
ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَl-tawrāta(by) the Taurat
وَٱلْإِنجِيلَwal-injīlaand the Injeel
وَمَآwamāand what
أُنزِلَunzilawas revealed
إِلَيْهِمilayhimto them
مِّنminfrom
رَّبِّهِمْrabbihimtheir Lord
لَأَكَلُوا۟la-akalūsurely they (would have) eaten
مِنminfrom
فَوْقِهِمْfawqihimabove them
وَمِنwaminand from
تَحْتِtaḥtibeneath
أَرْجُلِهِم ۚarjulihimtheir feet
مِّنْهُمْmin'humAmong them
أُمَّةٌۭummatun(is) a community
مُّقْتَصِدَةٌۭ ۖmuq'taṣidatunmoderate
وَكَثِيرٌۭwakathīrunbut many
مِّنْهُمْmin'humof them
سَآءَsāaevil
مَاmā(is) what
يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnathey do

Translation

And if that they had stood firmly (by) the Taurat and the Injeel and what was revealed to them from their Lord surely they (would have) eaten from above them and from beneath their feet Among them (is) a community moderate but many of them evil (is) what they do

Verse 67

۞ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO
ٱلرَّسُولُl-rasūluMessenger
بَلِّغْballighConvey
مَآmāwhat
أُنزِلَunzilahas been revealed
إِلَيْكَilaykato you
مِنminfrom
رَّبِّكَ ۖrabbikayour Lord
وَإِنwa-inand if
لَّمْlamnot
تَفْعَلْtafʿalyou do
فَمَاfamāthen not
بَلَّغْتَballaghtayou (have) conveyed
رِسَالَتَهُۥ ۚrisālatahuHis Message
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
يَعْصِمُكَyaʿṣimukawill protect you
مِنَminafrom
ٱلنَّاسِ ۗl-nāsithe people
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لَاlā(does) not
يَهْدِىyahdīguide
ٱلْقَوْمَl-qawmathe people
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelieving

Translation

O Messenger Convey what has been revealed to you from your Lord and if not you do then not you (have) conveyed His Message And Allah will protect you from the people Indeed Allah (does) not guide the people the disbelieving

Verse 68

قُلْqulSay
يَـٰٓأَهْلَyāahlaO People
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
لَسْتُمْlastumYou are not
عَلَىٰʿalāon
شَىْءٍshayinanything
حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
تُقِيمُوا۟tuqīmūyou stand firmly
ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَl-tawrāta(by) the Taurat
وَٱلْإِنجِيلَwal-injīlaand the Injeel
وَمَآwamāand what
أُنزِلَunzilahas been revealed
إِلَيْكُمilaykumto you
مِّنminfrom
رَّبِّكُمْ ۗrabbikumyour Lord
وَلَيَزِيدَنَّwalayazīdannaAnd surely increase
كَثِيرًۭاkathīranmany
مِّنْهُمmin'humof them
مَّآmāwhat
أُنزِلَunzilahas been revealed
إِلَيْكَilaykato you
مِنminfrom
رَّبِّكَrabbikayour Lord
طُغْيَـٰنًۭاṭugh'yānan(in) rebellion
وَكُفْرًۭا ۖwakuf'ranand disbelief
فَلَاfalāSo (do) not
تَأْسَtasagrieve
عَلَىʿalāover
ٱلْقَوْمِl-qawmithe people
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelieving

Translation

Say O People (of) the Book You are not on anything until you stand firmly (by) the Taurat and the Injeel and what has been revealed to you from your Lord And surely increase many of them what has been revealed to you from your Lord (in) rebellion and disbelief So (do) not grieve over the people the disbelieving

Verse 69

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieved
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those who
هَادُوا۟hādūbecame Jews
وَٱلصَّـٰبِـُٔونَwal-ṣābiūnaand the Sabians
وَٱلنَّصَـٰرَىٰwal-naṣārāand the Christians
مَنْmanwhoever
ءَامَنَāmanabelieved
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
وَٱلْيَوْمِwal-yawmiand the Day
ٱلْـَٔاخِرِl-ākhirithe Last
وَعَمِلَwaʿamilaand did
صَـٰلِحًۭاṣāliḥangood deeds
فَلَاfalāthen no
خَوْفٌkhawfunfear
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimon them
وَلَاwalāand not
هُمْhumthey
يَحْزَنُونَyaḥzanūnawill grieve

Translation

Indeed those who believed and those who became Jews and the Sabians and the Christians whoever believed in Allah and the Day the Last and did good deeds then no fear on them and not they will grieve

Verse 70

لَقَدْlaqadCertainly
أَخَذْنَاakhadhnāWe took
مِيثَـٰقَmīthāqaa Covenant
بَنِىٓbanī(from the) Children
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla(of) Israel
وَأَرْسَلْنَآwa-arsalnāand We sent
إِلَيْهِمْilayhimto them
رُسُلًۭا ۖrusulanMessengers
كُلَّمَاkullamāWhenever
جَآءَهُمْjāahumcame to them
رَسُولٌۢrasūlunany Messenger
بِمَاbimāwith what
لَاlānot
تَهْوَىٰٓtahwādesired
أَنفُسُهُمْanfusuhumtheir souls
فَرِيقًۭاfarīqana group
كَذَّبُوا۟kadhabūthey denied
وَفَرِيقًۭاwafarīqanand a group
يَقْتُلُونَyaqtulūnathey kill

Translation

Certainly We took a Covenant (from the) Children (of) Israel and We sent to them Messengers Whenever came to them any Messenger with what not desired their souls a group they denied and a group they kill

Verse 71

وَحَسِبُوٓا۟waḥasibūAnd they thought
أَلَّاallāthat not
تَكُونَtakūnawill be (for them)
فِتْنَةٌۭfit'natuna trial
فَعَمُوا۟faʿamūso they became blind
وَصَمُّوا۟waṣammūand they became deaf
ثُمَّthummaThen
تَابَtābaturned
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto them
ثُمَّthummathen (again)
عَمُوا۟ʿamūthey became blind
وَصَمُّوا۟waṣammūand they became deaf
كَثِيرٌۭkathīrunmany
مِّنْهُمْ ۚmin'humof them
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
بَصِيرٌۢbaṣīrun(is) All-Seer
بِمَاbimāof what
يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnathey do

Translation

And they thought that not will be (for them) a trial so they became blind and they became deaf Then turned Allah to them then (again) they became blind and they became deaf many of them And Allah (is) All-Seer of what they do

Verse 72

لَقَدْlaqadCertainly
كَفَرَkafaradisbelieved
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
قَالُوٓا۟qālūsay
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
هُوَhuwaHe
ٱلْمَسِيحُl-masīḥu(is) the Messiah
ٱبْنُub'nuson
مَرْيَمَ ۖmaryama(of) Maryam
وَقَالَwaqālaWhile said
ٱلْمَسِيحُl-masīḥuthe Messiah
يَـٰبَنِىٓyābanīO Children
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla(of) Israel
ٱعْبُدُوا۟uʿ'budūWorship
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
رَبِّىrabbīmy Lord
وَرَبَّكُمْ ۖwarabbakumand your Lord
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, he
مَنmanwho
يُشْرِكْyush'rikassociates partners
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiwith Allah
فَقَدْfaqadthen surely
حَرَّمَḥarrama(has) forbidden
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
عَلَيْهِʿalayhifor him
ٱلْجَنَّةَl-janataParadise
وَمَأْوَىٰهُwamawāhuand his abode
ٱلنَّارُ ۖl-nāru(will be) the Fire
وَمَاwamāAnd not
لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَlilẓẓālimīnafor the wrongdoers
مِنْminany
أَنصَارٍۢanṣārinhelpers

Translation

Certainly disbelieved those who say Indeed Allah He (is) the Messiah son (of) Maryam While said the Messiah O Children (of) Israel Worship Allah my Lord and your Lord Indeed, he who associates partners with Allah then surely (has) forbidden Allah for him Paradise and his abode (will be) the Fire And not for the wrongdoers any helpers

Verse 73

لَّقَدْlaqadCertainly
كَفَرَkafaradisbelieved
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
قَالُوٓا۟qālūsay
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
ثَالِثُthālithu(is the) third
ثَلَـٰثَةٍۢ ۘthalāthatin(of) three
وَمَاwamāAnd (there is) no
مِنْmin[of]
إِلَـٰهٍilāhingod
إِلَّآillāexcept
إِلَـٰهٌۭilāhun(the) God
وَٰحِدٌۭ ۚwāḥidun(the) One
وَإِنwa-inAnd if
لَّمْlamnot
يَنتَهُوا۟yantahūthey desist
عَمَّاʿammāfrom what
يَقُولُونَyaqūlūnathey are saying
لَيَمَسَّنَّlayamassannasurely will afflict
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
مِنْهُمْmin'humamong them
عَذَابٌʿadhābuna punishment
أَلِيمٌalīmunpainful

Translation

Certainly disbelieved those who say Indeed Allah (is the) third (of) three And (there is) no [of] god except (the) God (the) One And if not they desist from what they are saying surely will afflict those who disbelieved among them a punishment painful

Verse 74

أَفَلَاafalāSo will not
يَتُوبُونَyatūbūnathey turn in repentance
إِلَىilāto
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَهُۥ ۚwayastaghfirūnahuand seek His forgiveness
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
غَفُورٌۭghafūrun(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭraḥīmunMost Merciful

Translation

So will not they turn in repentance to Allah and seek His forgiveness And Allah (is) Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful

Verse 75

مَّاmāNot
ٱلْمَسِيحُl-masīḥu(is) the Messiah
ٱبْنُub'nuson
مَرْيَمَmaryama(of) Maryam
إِلَّاillābut
رَسُولٌۭrasūluna Messenger
قَدْqadcertainly
خَلَتْkhalathad passed
مِنminfrom
قَبْلِهِqablihibefore him
ٱلرُّسُلُl-rusuluthe Messengers
وَأُمُّهُۥwa-ummuhuAnd his mother
صِدِّيقَةٌۭ ۖṣiddīqatun(was) truthful
كَانَاkānāThey both used to
يَأْكُلَانِyakulānieat
ٱلطَّعَامَ ۗl-ṭaʿāma[the] food
ٱنظُرْunẓurSee
كَيْفَkayfahow
نُبَيِّنُnubayyinuWe make clear
لَهُمُlahumuto them
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِl-āyātithe Signs
ثُمَّthummathen
ٱنظُرْunẓursee
أَنَّىٰannāhow
يُؤْفَكُونَyu'fakūnathey are deluded

Translation

Not (is) the Messiah son (of) Maryam but a Messenger certainly had passed from before him the Messengers And his mother (was) truthful They both used to eat [the] food See how We make clear to them the Signs then see how they are deluded

Verse 76

قُلْqulSay
أَتَعْبُدُونَataʿbudūnaDo you worship
مِنminfrom
دُونِdūnibesides
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
مَاmāwhat
لَاlānot
يَمْلِكُyamlikuhas power
لَكُمْlakumto (cause) you
ضَرًّۭاḍarranany harm
وَلَاwalāand not
نَفْعًۭا ۚnafʿanany benefit
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuwhile Allah
هُوَhuwaHe
ٱلسَّمِيعُl-samīʿu(is) the All-Hearing
ٱلْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmuthe All-Knowing

Translation

Say Do you worship from besides Allah what not has power to (cause) you any harm and not any benefit while Allah He (is) the All-Hearing the All-Knowing

Verse 77

قُلْqulSay
يَـٰٓأَهْلَyāahlaO People
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
لَاlā(Do) not
تَغْلُوا۟taghlūexceed
فِىfīin
دِينِكُمْdīnikumyour religion
غَيْرَghayraother than
ٱلْحَقِّl-ḥaqithe truth
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تَتَّبِعُوٓا۟tattabiʿūfollow
أَهْوَآءَahwāa(vain) desires
قَوْمٍۢqawmin(of) a people
قَدْqadcertainly
ضَلُّوا۟ḍallūwho went astray
مِنminfrom
قَبْلُqablubefore
وَأَضَلُّوا۟wa-aḍallūand they misled
كَثِيرًۭاkathīranmany
وَضَلُّوا۟waḍallūand they have strayed
عَنʿanfrom
سَوَآءِsawāi(the) right
ٱلسَّبِيلِl-sabīli[the] way

Translation

Say O People (of) the Book (Do) not exceed in your religion other than the truth and (do) not follow (vain) desires (of) a people certainly who went astray from before and they misled many and they have strayed from (the) right [the] way

Verse 78

لُعِنَluʿinaWere cursed
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
مِنۢminfrom
بَنِىٓbanī(the) Children
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla(of) Israel
عَلَىٰʿalāby
لِسَانِlisāni(the) tongue
دَاوُۥدَdāwūda(of) Dawood
وَعِيسَىwaʿīsāand Isa
ٱبْنِib'nison
مَرْيَمَ ۚmaryama(of) Maryam
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat (was)
بِمَاbimābecause
عَصَوا۟ʿaṣawthey disobeyed
وَّكَانُوا۟wakānūand they were
يَعْتَدُونَyaʿtadūnatransgressing

Translation

Were cursed those who disbelieved from (the) Children (of) Israel by (the) tongue (of) Dawood and Isa son (of) Maryam that (was) because they disobeyed and they were transgressing

Verse 79

كَانُوا۟kānūThey had been
لَاlānot
يَتَنَاهَوْنَyatanāhawnaforbidding each other
عَنʿanfrom
مُّنكَرٍۢmunkarinwrongdoing
فَعَلُوهُ ۚfaʿalūhuthey did [it]
لَبِئْسَlabi'saSurely, evil
مَاmā(was) what
كَانُوا۟kānūthey were
يَفْعَلُونَyafʿalūnadoing

Translation

They had been not forbidding each other from wrongdoing they did [it] Surely, evil (was) what they were doing

Verse 80

تَرَىٰtarāYou see
كَثِيرًۭاkathīranmany
مِّنْهُمْmin'humof them
يَتَوَلَّوْنَyatawallawnataking as allies
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟ ۚkafarūdisbelieved
لَبِئْسَlabi'saSurely evil
مَاmā(is) what
قَدَّمَتْqaddamatsent forth
لَهُمْlahumfor them
أَنفُسُهُمْanfusuhumtheir souls
أَنanthat
سَخِطَsakhiṭabecame angry
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimwith them
وَفِىwafīand in
ٱلْعَذَابِl-ʿadhābithe punishment
هُمْhumthey
خَـٰلِدُونَkhālidūna(will) abide forever

Translation

You see many of them taking as allies those who disbelieved Surely evil (is) what sent forth for them their souls that became angry Allah with them and in the punishment they (will) abide forever

Verse 81

وَلَوْwalawAnd if
كَانُوا۟kānūthey had
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnabelieved
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
وَٱلنَّبِىِّwal-nabiyiand the Prophet
وَمَآwamāand what
أُنزِلَunzilahas been revealed
إِلَيْهِilayhito him
مَاmānot
ٱتَّخَذُوهُمْittakhadhūhumthey (would have) taken them
أَوْلِيَآءَawliyāa(as) allies
وَلَـٰكِنَّwalākinna[and] but
كَثِيرًۭاkathīranmany
مِّنْهُمْmin'humof them
فَـٰسِقُونَfāsiqūna(are) defiantly disobedient

Translation

And if they had believed in Allah and the Prophet and what has been revealed to him not they (would have) taken them (as) allies [and] but many of them (are) defiantly disobedient

Verse 82

۞ لَتَجِدَنَّlatajidannaSurely you will find
أَشَدَّashaddastrongest
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi(of) the people
عَدَٰوَةًۭʿadāwatan(in) enmity
لِّلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
ٱلْيَهُودَl-yahūdathe Jews
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those who
أَشْرَكُوا۟ ۖashrakū(are) polytheists
وَلَتَجِدَنَّwalatajidannaand surely you will find
أَقْرَبَهُمaqrabahumnearest of them
مَّوَدَّةًۭmawaddatan(in) affection
لِّلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
قَالُوٓا۟qālūsay
إِنَّاinnāWe
نَصَـٰرَىٰ ۚnaṣārā(are) Christians
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat (is)
بِأَنَّbi-annabecause
مِنْهُمْmin'humamong them
قِسِّيسِينَqissīsīna(are) priests
وَرُهْبَانًۭاwaruh'bānanand monks
وَأَنَّهُمْwa-annahumand that they
لَاlā(are) not
يَسْتَكْبِرُونَyastakbirūnaarrogant

Translation

Surely you will find strongest (of) the people (in) enmity to those who believe the Jews and those who (are) polytheists and surely you will find nearest of them (in) affection to those who believe those who say We (are) Christians That (is) because among them (are) priests and monks and that they (are) not arrogant

Verse 83

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
سَمِعُوا۟samiʿūthey listen
مَآmā(to) what
أُنزِلَunzilahas been revealed
إِلَىilāto
ٱلرَّسُولِl-rasūlithe Messenger
تَرَىٰٓtarāyou see
أَعْيُنَهُمْaʿyunahumtheir eyes
تَفِيضُtafīḍuoverflowing
مِنَminawith
ٱلدَّمْعِl-damʿithe tears
مِمَّاmimmāfor what
عَرَفُوا۟ʿarafūthey recognized
مِنَminaof
ٱلْحَقِّ ۖl-ḥaqithe truth
يَقُولُونَyaqūlūnaThey say
رَبَّنَآrabbanāOur Lord
ءَامَنَّاāmannāwe have believed
فَٱكْتُبْنَاfa-uk'tub'nāso write us
مَعَmaʿawith
ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَl-shāhidīnathe witnesses

Translation

And when they listen (to) what has been revealed to the Messenger you see their eyes overflowing with the tears for what they recognized of the truth They say Our Lord we have believed so write us with the witnesses

Verse 84

وَمَاwamāAnd what
لَنَاlanāfor us (that)
لَاlānot
نُؤْمِنُnu'minuwe believe
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
وَمَاwamāand what
جَآءَنَاjāanācame (to) us
مِنَminafrom
ٱلْحَقِّl-ḥaqithe truth
وَنَطْمَعُwanaṭmaʿuAnd we hope
أَنanthat
يُدْخِلَنَاyud'khilanāwill admit us
رَبُّنَاrabbunāour Lord
مَعَmaʿawith
ٱلْقَوْمِl-qawmithe people
ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَl-ṣāliḥīnathe righteous

Translation

And what for us (that) not we believe in Allah and what came (to) us from the truth And we hope that will admit us our Lord with the people the righteous

Verse 85

فَأَثَـٰبَهُمُfa-athābahumuSo rewarded them
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
بِمَاbimāfor what
قَالُوا۟qālūthey said
جَنَّـٰتٍۢjannātin(with) Gardens
تَجْرِىtajrīflows
مِنminfrom
تَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath them
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُl-anhāruthe rivers
خَـٰلِدِينَkhālidīnawill abide forever
فِيهَا ۚfīhāin it
وَذَٰلِكَwadhālikaAnd that
جَزَآءُjazāu(is the) reward
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīna(of) the good-doers

Translation

So rewarded them Allah for what they said (with) Gardens flows from underneath them the rivers will abide forever in it And that (is the) reward (of) the good-doers

Verse 86

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
وَكَذَّبُوا۟wakadhabūand denied
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآbiāyātināOur Signs
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikathose
أَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu(are the) companions
ٱلْجَحِيمِl-jaḥīmi(of) the Hellfire

Translation

And those who disbelieved and denied Our Signs those (are the) companions (of) the Hellfire

Verse 87

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
لَاlā(Do) not
تُحَرِّمُوا۟tuḥarrimūmake unlawful
طَيِّبَـٰتِṭayyibāti(the) good things
مَآmā(of) what
أَحَلَّaḥallahas (been) made lawful
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allah
لَكُمْlakumfor you
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تَعْتَدُوٓا۟ ۚtaʿtadūtransgress
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
لَاlā(does) not
يُحِبُّyuḥibbulove
ٱلْمُعْتَدِينَl-muʿ'tadīnathe transgressors

Translation

O you who believe (Do) not make unlawful (the) good things (of) what has (been) made lawful (by) Allah for you and (do) not transgress Indeed Allah (does) not love the transgressors

Verse 88

وَكُلُوا۟wakulūAnd eat
مِمَّاmimmāof what
رَزَقَكُمُrazaqakumuhas provided you
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
حَلَـٰلًۭاḥalālanlawful
طَيِّبًۭا ۚṭayyibangood
وَٱتَّقُوا۟wa-ittaqūAnd fear
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
ٱلَّذِىٓalladhīthe One
أَنتُمantumyou (are)
بِهِۦbihiin Him
مُؤْمِنُونَmu'minūnabelievers

Translation

And eat of what has provided you Allah lawful good And fear Allah the One you (are) in Him believers

Verse 89

لَاlāNot
يُؤَاخِذُكُمُyuākhidhukumuwill call you to account
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
بِٱللَّغْوِbil-laghwifor the thoughtless utterances
فِىٓfīin
أَيْمَـٰنِكُمْaymānikumyour oaths
وَلَـٰكِنwalākinbut
يُؤَاخِذُكُمyuākhidhukumHe will call you to account
بِمَاbimāfor what
عَقَّدتُّمُʿaqqadttumuyou contracted
ٱلْأَيْمَـٰنَ ۖl-aymāna(of) the oath
فَكَفَّـٰرَتُهُۥٓfakaffāratuhuSo its expiation
إِطْعَامُiṭ'ʿāmu(is) feeding
عَشَرَةِʿasharati(of) ten
مَسَـٰكِينَmasākīnaneedy people
مِنْminof
أَوْسَطِawsaṭiaverage
مَاmā(of) what
تُطْعِمُونَtuṭ'ʿimūnayou feed
أَهْلِيكُمْahlīkumyour families
أَوْawor
كِسْوَتُهُمْkis'watuhumclothing them
أَوْawor
تَحْرِيرُtaḥrīrufreeing
رَقَبَةٍۢ ۖraqabatina slave
فَمَنfamanBut whoever
لَّمْlam(does) not
يَجِدْyajidfind
فَصِيَامُfaṣiyāmu(that), then fasting
ثَلَـٰثَةِthalāthati(for) three
أَيَّامٍۢ ۚayyāmindays
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
كَفَّـٰرَةُkaffāratu(is the) expiation
أَيْمَـٰنِكُمْaymānikum(of) your oaths
إِذَاidhāwhen
حَلَفْتُمْ ۚḥalaftumyou have sworn
وَٱحْفَظُوٓا۟wa-iḥ'faẓūAnd guard
أَيْمَـٰنَكُمْ ۚaymānakumyour oaths
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
يُبَيِّنُyubayyinumakes clear
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
لَكُمْlakumto you
ءَايَـٰتِهِۦāyātihiHis Verses
لَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you may
تَشْكُرُونَtashkurūna(be) grateful

Translation

Not will call you to account Allah for the thoughtless utterances in your oaths but He will call you to account for what you contracted (of) the oath So its expiation (is) feeding (of) ten needy people of average (of) what you feed your families or clothing them or freeing a slave But whoever (does) not find (that), then fasting (for) three days That (is the) expiation (of) your oaths when you have sworn And guard your oaths Thus makes clear Allah to you His Verses so that you may (be) grateful

Verse 90

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
ءَامَنُوٓا۟āmanūbelieve
إِنَّمَاinnamāVerily
ٱلْخَمْرُl-khamruthe intoxicants
وَٱلْمَيْسِرُwal-maysiruand [the] games of chance
وَٱلْأَنصَابُwal-anṣābuand (sacrifices at) altars
وَٱلْأَزْلَـٰمُwal-azlāmuand divining arrows
رِجْسٌۭrij'sun(are an) abomination
مِّنْminfrom
عَمَلِʿamali(the) work
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِl-shayṭāni(of) the Shaitaan
فَٱجْتَنِبُوهُfa-ij'tanibūhuso avoid it
لَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you may
تُفْلِحُونَtuf'liḥūna(be) successful

Translation

O you who believe Verily the intoxicants and [the] games of chance and (sacrifices at) altars and divining arrows (are an) abomination from (the) work (of) the Shaitaan so avoid it so that you may (be) successful

Verse 91

إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
يُرِيدُyurīduintends
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُl-shayṭānuthe Shaitaan
أَنanto
يُوقِعَyūqiʿacause
بَيْنَكُمُbaynakumubetween you
ٱلْعَدَٰوَةَl-ʿadāwata[the] enmity
وَٱلْبَغْضَآءَwal-baghḍāaand [the] hatred
فِىfīthrough
ٱلْخَمْرِl-khamriintoxicants
وَٱلْمَيْسِرِwal-maysiriand gambling
وَيَصُدَّكُمْwayaṣuddakumand hinders you
عَنʿanfrom
ذِكْرِdhik'ri(the) remembrance
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
وَعَنِwaʿaniand from
ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ ۖl-ṣalatithe prayer
فَهَلْfahalSo will
أَنتُمantumyou
مُّنتَهُونَmuntahūna(be) the ones who abstain

Translation

Only intends the Shaitaan to cause between you [the] enmity and [the] hatred through intoxicants and gambling and hinders you from (the) remembrance (of) Allah and from the prayer So will you (be) the ones who abstain

Verse 92

وَأَطِيعُوا۟wa-aṭīʿūAnd obey
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
وَأَطِيعُوا۟wa-aṭīʿūand obey
ٱلرَّسُولَl-rasūlathe Messenger
وَٱحْذَرُوا۟ ۚwa-iḥ'dharūand beware
فَإِنfa-inAnd if
تَوَلَّيْتُمْtawallaytumyou turn away
فَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟fa-iʿ'lamūthen know
أَنَّمَاannamāonly
عَلَىٰʿalāupon
رَسُولِنَاrasūlināOur Messenger
ٱلْبَلَـٰغُl-balāghu(is to) convey (the Message)
ٱلْمُبِينُl-mubīnuclearly

Translation

And obey Allah and obey the Messenger and beware And if you turn away then know only upon Our Messenger (is to) convey (the Message) clearly

Verse 93

لَيْسَlaysaNot
عَلَىʿalāon
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātithe good deeds
جُنَاحٌۭjunāḥunany sin
فِيمَاfīmāfor what
طَعِمُوٓا۟ṭaʿimūthey ate
إِذَاidhāwhen
مَاmāthat
ٱتَّقَوا۟ittaqawthey fear (Allah)
وَّءَامَنُوا۟waāmanūand they believe
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand they do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥāti[the] good deeds
ثُمَّthummathen
ٱتَّقَوا۟ittaqawthey fear (Allah)
وَّءَامَنُوا۟waāmanūand believe
ثُمَّthummathen
ٱتَّقَوا۟ittaqawthey fear (Allah)
وَّأَحْسَنُوا۟ ۗwa-aḥsanūand do good
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuand Allah
يُحِبُّyuḥibbuloves
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīnathe good-doers

Translation

Not on those who believe and do the good deeds any sin for what they ate when that they fear (Allah) and they believe and they do [the] good deeds then they fear (Allah) and believe then they fear (Allah) and do good and Allah loves the good-doers

Verse 94

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
لَيَبْلُوَنَّكُمُlayabluwannakumuSurely will test you
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
بِشَىْءٍۢbishayinthrough something
مِّنَminaof
ٱلصَّيْدِl-ṣaydithe game
تَنَالُهُۥٓtanāluhucan reach it
أَيْدِيكُمْaydīkumyour hands
وَرِمَاحُكُمْwarimāḥukumand your spears
لِيَعْلَمَliyaʿlamathat may make evident
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
مَنmanwho
يَخَافُهُۥyakhāfuhufears Him
بِٱلْغَيْبِ ۚbil-ghaybiin the unseen
فَمَنِfamaniAnd whoever
ٱعْتَدَىٰiʿ'tadātransgressed
بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
فَلَهُۥfalahuthen for him
عَذَابٌʿadhābun(is) a punishment
أَلِيمٌۭalīmunpainful

Translation

O you who believe Surely will test you Allah through something of the game can reach it your hands and your spears that may make evident Allah who fears Him in the unseen And whoever transgressed after that then for him (is) a punishment painful

Verse 95

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
لَاlā(Do) not
تَقْتُلُوا۟taqtulūkill
ٱلصَّيْدَl-ṣaydathe game
وَأَنتُمْwa-antumwhile you
حُرُمٌۭ ۚḥurumun(are in) Ihram
وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
قَتَلَهُۥqatalahukilled it
مِنكُمminkumamong you
مُّتَعَمِّدًۭاmutaʿammidanintentionally
فَجَزَآءٌۭfajazāonthen penalty
مِّثْلُmith'lu(is) similar
مَاmā(to) what
قَتَلَqatalahe killed
مِنَminaof
ٱلنَّعَمِl-naʿamithe cattle
يَحْكُمُyaḥkumujudging
بِهِۦbihiit
ذَوَاdhawātwo men
عَدْلٍۢʿadlinjust
مِّنكُمْminkumamong you
هَدْيًۢاhadyan(as) an offering
بَـٰلِغَbālighareaching
ٱلْكَعْبَةِl-kaʿbatithe Kabah
أَوْawor
كَفَّـٰرَةٌۭkaffāratunan expiation
طَعَامُṭaʿāmufeeding
مَسَـٰكِينَmasākīnaneedy people
أَوْawor
عَدْلُʿadluequivalent
ذَٰلِكَdhālika(of) that
صِيَامًۭاṣiyāman(in) fasting
لِّيَذُوقَliyadhūqathat he may taste
وَبَالَwabāla(the) consequence
أَمْرِهِۦ ۗamrihi(of) his deed
عَفَاʿafāPardoned
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allah
عَمَّاʿammāwhat
سَلَفَ ۚsalafa(has) passed
وَمَنْwamanbut whoever
عَادَʿādareturned
فَيَنتَقِمُfayantaqimuthen will take retribution
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
مِنْهُ ۗmin'hufrom him
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
عَزِيزٌۭʿazīzun(is) All-Mighty
ذُوdhūOwner
ٱنتِقَامٍintiqāmin(of) Retribution

Translation

O you who believe (Do) not kill the game while you (are in) Ihram And whoever killed it among you intentionally then penalty (is) similar (to) what he killed of the cattle judging it two men just among you (as) an offering reaching the Kabah or an expiation feeding needy people or equivalent (of) that (in) fasting that he may taste (the) consequence (of) his deed Pardoned (by) Allah what (has) passed but whoever returned then will take retribution Allah from him And Allah (is) All-Mighty Owner (of) Retribution

Verse 96

أُحِلَّuḥillaIs made lawful
لَكُمْlakumfor you
صَيْدُṣaydugame
ٱلْبَحْرِl-baḥri(of) the sea
وَطَعَامُهُۥwaṭaʿāmuhuand its food
مَتَـٰعًۭاmatāʿan(as) provision
لَّكُمْlakumfor you
وَلِلسَّيَّارَةِ ۖwalilssayyāratiand for the travelers
وَحُرِّمَwaḥurrimaand is made unlawful
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumon you
صَيْدُṣaydugame
ٱلْبَرِّl-bari(of) the land
مَاmāas
دُمْتُمْdum'tumlong as you
حُرُمًۭا ۗḥuruman(are in) Ihram
وَٱتَّقُوا۟wa-ittaqūAnd be conscious
ٱللَّهَl-laha(of) Allah
ٱلَّذِىٓalladhīthe One
إِلَيْهِilayhito Him
تُحْشَرُونَtuḥ'sharūnayou will be gathered

Translation

Is made lawful for you game (of) the sea and its food (as) provision for you and for the travelers and is made unlawful on you game (of) the land as long as you (are in) Ihram And be conscious (of) Allah the One to Him you will be gathered

Verse 97

۞ جَعَلَjaʿalaHas (been) made
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allah
ٱلْكَعْبَةَl-kaʿbatathe Kabah
ٱلْبَيْتَl-baytathe House
ٱلْحَرَامَl-ḥarāmathe Sacred
قِيَـٰمًۭاqiyāmanan establishment
لِّلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor mankind
وَٱلشَّهْرَwal-shahraand the month(s)
ٱلْحَرَامَl-ḥarāma[the] sacred
وَٱلْهَدْىَwal-hadyaand the (animals) for offering
وَٱلْقَلَـٰٓئِدَ ۚwal-qalāidaand the garlands
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat (is)
لِتَعْلَمُوٓا۟litaʿlamūso that you may know
أَنَّannathat
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknows
مَاmāwhat
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَمَاwamāand what
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
وَأَنَّwa-annaand that
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
بِكُلِّbikulliof every
شَىْءٍshayinthing
عَلِيمٌʿalīmun(is) All-Knowing

Translation

Has (been) made (by) Allah the Kabah the House the Sacred an establishment for mankind and the month(s) [the] sacred and the (animals) for offering and the garlands That (is) so that you may know that Allah knows what (is) in the heavens and what (is) in the earth and that Allah of every thing (is) All-Knowing

Verse 98

ٱعْلَمُوٓا۟iʿ'lamūKnow
أَنَّannathat
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
شَدِيدُshadīdu(is) severe
ٱلْعِقَابِl-ʿiqābi(in) punishment
وَأَنَّwa-annaand that
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
غَفُورٌۭghafūrun(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭraḥīmunMost Merciful

Translation

Know that Allah (is) severe (in) punishment and that Allah (is) Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful

Verse 99

مَّاmāNot
عَلَىʿalāon
ٱلرَّسُولِl-rasūlithe Messenger
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ۗl-balāghuthe conveyance
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknows
مَاmāwhat
تُبْدُونَtub'dūnayou reveal
وَمَاwamāand what
تَكْتُمُونَtaktumūnayou conceal

Translation

Not on the Messenger except the conveyance And Allah knows what you reveal and what you conceal

Verse 100

قُلqulSay
لَّاlāNot
يَسْتَوِىyastawī(are) equal
ٱلْخَبِيثُl-khabīthuthe evil
وَٱلطَّيِّبُwal-ṭayibuand the good
وَلَوْwalaweven if
أَعْجَبَكَaʿjabakaimpresses you
كَثْرَةُkathratuabundance
ٱلْخَبِيثِ ۚl-khabīthi(of) the evil
فَٱتَّقُوا۟fa-ittaqūSo fear
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يَـٰٓأُو۟لِىyāulīO men
ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِl-albābi(of) understanding
لَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you may
تُفْلِحُونَtuf'liḥūna(be) successful

Translation

Say Not (are) equal the evil and the good even if impresses you abundance (of) the evil So fear Allah O men (of) understanding so that you may (be) successful

Verse 101

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
لَاlā(Do) not
تَسْـَٔلُوا۟tasalūask
عَنْʿanabout
أَشْيَآءَashyāathings
إِنinif
تُبْدَtub'damade clear
لَكُمْlakumto you
تَسُؤْكُمْtasu'kumit may distress you
وَإِنwa-inand if
تَسْـَٔلُوا۟tasalūyou ask
عَنْهَاʿanhāabout it
حِينَḥīnawhen
يُنَزَّلُyunazzaluis being revealed
ٱلْقُرْءَانُl-qur'ānuthe Quran
تُبْدَtub'dait would be made clear
لَكُمْlakumto you
عَفَاʿafāhas (been) pardoned
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allah
عَنْهَا ۗʿanhā[about] it
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuand Allah
غَفُورٌghafūrun(is) Oft-Forgiving
حَلِيمٌۭḥalīmunAll-Forbearing

Translation

O you who believe (Do) not ask about things if made clear to you it may distress you and if you ask about it when is being revealed the Quran it would be made clear to you has (been) pardoned (by) Allah [about] it and Allah (is) Oft-Forgiving All-Forbearing

Verse 102

قَدْqadIndeed
سَأَلَهَاsa-alahāasked them
قَوْمٌۭqawmuna people
مِّنminfrom
قَبْلِكُمْqablikumbefore you
ثُمَّthummathen
أَصْبَحُوا۟aṣbaḥūthey became
بِهَاbihāthereby
كَـٰفِرِينَkāfirīnadisbelievers

Translation

Indeed asked them a people from before you then they became thereby disbelievers

Verse 103

مَاmāNot
جَعَلَjaʿalahas (been) made
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allah
مِنۢminof
بَحِيرَةٍۢbaḥīratina Bahirah
وَلَاwalāand not
سَآئِبَةٍۢsāibatina Saibah
وَلَاwalāand not
وَصِيلَةٍۢwaṣīlatina Wasilah
وَلَاwalāand not
حَامٍۢ ۙḥāmina Hami
وَلَـٰكِنَّwalākinna[And] but
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
يَفْتَرُونَyaftarūnathey invent
عَلَىʿalāagainst
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
ٱلْكَذِبَ ۖl-kadhibathe lie
وَأَكْثَرُهُمْwa-aktharuhumand most of them
لَاlā(do) not
يَعْقِلُونَyaʿqilūnause reason

Translation

Not has (been) made (by) Allah of a Bahirah and not a Saibah and not a Wasilah and not a Hami [And] but those who disbelieved they invent against Allah the lie and most of them (do) not use reason

Verse 104

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
قِيلَqīlait is said
لَهُمْlahumto them
تَعَالَوْا۟taʿālawCome
إِلَىٰilāto
مَآmāwhat
أَنزَلَanzalahas (been) revealed
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allah
وَإِلَىwa-ilāand to
ٱلرَّسُولِl-rasūlithe Messenger
قَالُوا۟qālūthey said
حَسْبُنَاḥasbunāSufficient for us
مَاmā(is) what
وَجَدْنَاwajadnāwe found
عَلَيْهِʿalayhiupon it
ءَابَآءَنَآ ۚābāanāour forefathers
أَوَلَوْawalawEven though
كَانَkāna(that)
ءَابَآؤُهُمْābāuhumtheir forefathers
لَاlā(were) not
يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknowing
شَيْـًۭٔاshayananything
وَلَاwalāand not
يَهْتَدُونَyahtadūnathey (were) guided

Translation

And when it is said to them Come to what has (been) revealed (by) Allah and to the Messenger they said Sufficient for us (is) what we found upon it our forefathers Even though (that) their forefathers (were) not knowing anything and not they (were) guided

Verse 105

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumUpon you
أَنفُسَكُمْ ۖanfusakum(is to guard) yourselves
لَاlāNot
يَضُرُّكُمyaḍurrukumwill harm you
مَّنman(those) who
ضَلَّḍalla(have gone) astray
إِذَاidhāwhen
ٱهْتَدَيْتُمْ ۚih'tadaytumyou have been guided
إِلَىilāTo
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
مَرْجِعُكُمْmarjiʿukum(is) your return
جَمِيعًۭاjamīʿanall
فَيُنَبِّئُكُمfayunabbi-ukumthen He will inform you
بِمَاbimāof what
كُنتُمْkuntumyou used to
تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnado

Translation

O you who believe Upon you (is to guard) yourselves Not will harm you (those) who (have gone) astray when you have been guided To Allah (is) your return all then He will inform you of what you used to do

Verse 106

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
شَهَـٰدَةُshahādatu(Take) testimony
بَيْنِكُمْbaynikumamong you
إِذَاidhāwhen
حَضَرَḥaḍaraapproaches
أَحَدَكُمُaḥadakumuone of you
ٱلْمَوْتُl-mawtu[the] death
حِينَḥīna(at the) time (of making)
ٱلْوَصِيَّةِl-waṣiyati[the] a will
ٱثْنَانِith'nānitwo
ذَوَاdhawāmen
عَدْلٍۢʿadlinjust
مِّنكُمْminkumamong you
أَوْawor
ءَاخَرَانِākharānitwo others
مِنْminfrom
غَيْرِكُمْghayrikumother than you
إِنْinif
أَنتُمْantumyou
ضَرَبْتُمْḍarabtum(are) travel(ing)
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
فَأَصَـٰبَتْكُمfa-aṣābatkumthen befalls you
مُّصِيبَةُmuṣībatucalamity
ٱلْمَوْتِ ۚl-mawti(of) [the] death
تَحْبِسُونَهُمَاtaḥbisūnahumāDetain both of them
مِنۢminfrom
بَعْدِbaʿdiafter
ٱلصَّلَوٰةِl-ṣalatithe prayer
فَيُقْسِمَانِfayuq'simāniand let them both swear
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiby Allah
إِنِiniif
ٱرْتَبْتُمْir'tabtumyou doubt
لَاlāNot
نَشْتَرِىnashtarīwe will exchange
بِهِۦbihiit for
ثَمَنًۭاthamanana price
وَلَوْwalaweven if
كَانَkānahe is
ذَاdhā(of)
قُرْبَىٰ ۙqur'bāa near relative
وَلَاwalāand not
نَكْتُمُnaktumuwe will conceal
شَهَـٰدَةَshahādatatestimony
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
إِنَّآinnāIndeed, we
إِذًۭاidhanthen
لَّمِنَlamina(will) surely (be) of
ٱلْـَٔاثِمِينَl-āthimīnathe sinners

Translation

O you who believe (Take) testimony among you when approaches one of you [the] death (at the) time (of making) [the] a will two men just among you or two others from other than you if you (are) travel(ing) in the earth then befalls you calamity (of) [the] death Detain both of them from after the prayer and let them both swear by Allah if you doubt Not we will exchange it for a price even if he is (of) a near relative and not we will conceal testimony (of) Allah Indeed, we then (will) surely (be) of the sinners

Verse 107

فَإِنْfa-inThen if
عُثِرَʿuthirait is discovered
عَلَىٰٓʿalā(on)
أَنَّهُمَاannahumāthat the two
ٱسْتَحَقَّآis'taḥaqqā(were) guilty
إِثْمًۭاith'man(of) sin
فَـَٔاخَرَانِfaākharānithen (let) two others
يَقُومَانِyaqūmānistand
مَقَامَهُمَاmaqāmahumā(in) their place
مِنَminafrom
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ٱسْتَحَقَّis'taḥaqqahave a lawful right
عَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimuover them
ٱلْأَوْلَيَـٰنِl-awlayānithe former two
فَيُقْسِمَانِfayuq'simāniand let them both swear
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiby Allah
لَشَهَـٰدَتُنَآlashahādatunāSurely our testimony
أَحَقُّaḥaqqu(is) truer
مِنminthan
شَهَـٰدَتِهِمَاshahādatihimātestimony of the other two
وَمَاwamāand not
ٱعْتَدَيْنَآiʿ'tadaynāwe have transgressed
إِنَّآinnāIndeed, we
إِذًۭاidhanthen
لَّمِنَlamina(will be) of
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers

Translation

Then if it is discovered (on) that the two (were) guilty (of) sin then (let) two others stand (in) their place from those who have a lawful right over them the former two and let them both swear by Allah Surely our testimony (is) truer than testimony of the other two and not we have transgressed Indeed, we then (will be) of the wrongdoers

Verse 108

ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
أَدْنَىٰٓadnā(is) closer
أَنanthat
يَأْتُوا۟yatūthey will give
بِٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِbil-shahādatithe testimony
عَلَىٰʿalāin
وَجْهِهَآwajhihāits (true) form
أَوْawor
يَخَافُوٓا۟yakhāfūthey would fear
أَنanthat
تُرَدَّturaddawill be refuted
أَيْمَـٰنٌۢaymānuntheir oaths
بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
أَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ ۗaymānihimtheir (others) oaths
وَٱتَّقُوا۟wa-ittaqūAnd fear
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
وَٱسْمَعُوا۟ ۗwa-is'maʿūand listen
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuand Allah
لَاlā(does) not
يَهْدِىyahdīguide
ٱلْقَوْمَl-qawmathe people
ٱلْفَـٰسِقِينَl-fāsiqīnathe defiantly disobedient

Translation

That (is) closer that they will give the testimony in its (true) form or they would fear that will be refuted their oaths after their (others) oaths And fear Allah and listen and Allah (does) not guide the people the defiantly disobedient

Verse 109

۞ يَوْمَyawma(The) day
يَجْمَعُyajmaʿuwill (be) gathered
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allah
ٱلرُّسُلَl-rusulathe Messengers
فَيَقُولُfayaqūluand He will say
مَاذَآmādhāWhat
أُجِبْتُمْ ۖujib'tumwas (the) response you received
قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
لَاlā(There is) no
عِلْمَʿil'maknowledge
لَنَآ ۖlanāfor us
إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed You
أَنتَantaYou
عَلَّـٰمُʿallāmu(are the) Knower
ٱلْغُيُوبِl-ghuyūbi(of) the unseen

Translation

(The) day will (be) gathered (by) Allah the Messengers and He will say What was (the) response you received They said (There is) no knowledge for us Indeed You You (are the) Knower (of) the unseen

Verse 110

إِذْidhWhen
قَالَqālasaid
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
يَـٰعِيسَىyāʿīsāO Isa
ٱبْنَib'nason
مَرْيَمَmaryama(of) Maryam
ٱذْكُرْudh'kurRemember
نِعْمَتِىniʿ'matīMy Favor
عَلَيْكَʿalaykaupon you
وَعَلَىٰwaʿalāand upon
وَٰلِدَتِكَwālidatikayour mother
إِذْidhwhen
أَيَّدتُّكَayyadttukaI strengthened you
بِرُوحِbirūḥiwith (the) Spirit
ٱلْقُدُسِl-qudusithe Holy
تُكَلِّمُtukallimuyou spoke
ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsa(to) the people
فِىfīin
ٱلْمَهْدِl-mahdithe cradle
وَكَهْلًۭا ۖwakahlanand (in) maturity
وَإِذْwa-idhAnd when
عَلَّمْتُكَʿallamtukaI taught you
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
وَٱلْحِكْمَةَwal-ḥik'mataand the wisdom
وَٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَwal-tawrātaand the Taurat
وَٱلْإِنجِيلَ ۖwal-injīlaand the Injeel
وَإِذْwa-idhand when
تَخْلُقُtakhluquyou make
مِنَminafrom
ٱلطِّينِl-ṭīnithe clay
كَهَيْـَٔةِkahayatilike the shape
ٱلطَّيْرِl-ṭayri(of) the bird
بِإِذْنِىbi-idh'nīby My permission
فَتَنفُخُfatanfukhuthen you breath
فِيهَاfīhāinto it
فَتَكُونُfatakūnuand it becomes
طَيْرًۢاṭayrana bird
بِإِذْنِى ۖbi-idh'nīby My permission
وَتُبْرِئُwatub'ri-uand you heal
ٱلْأَكْمَهَl-akmahathe born blind
وَٱلْأَبْرَصَwal-abraṣaand the leper
بِإِذْنِى ۖbi-idh'nīby My permission
وَإِذْwa-idhand when
تُخْرِجُtukh'rijuyou bring forth
ٱلْمَوْتَىٰl-mawtāthe dead
بِإِذْنِى ۖbi-idh'nīby My permission
وَإِذْwa-idhAnd when
كَفَفْتُkafaftuI restrained
بَنِىٓbanī(the) Children
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla(of) Israel
عَنكَʿankafrom you
إِذْidhwhen
جِئْتَهُمji'tahumyou came to them
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِbil-bayinātiwith the clear proofs
فَقَالَfaqālathen said
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
مِنْهُمْmin'humamong them
إِنْinNot
هَـٰذَآhādhā(is) this
إِلَّاillābut
سِحْرٌۭsiḥ'runmagic
مُّبِينٌۭmubīnunclear

Translation

When said Allah O Isa son (of) Maryam Remember My Favor upon you and upon your mother when I strengthened you with (the) Spirit the Holy you spoke (to) the people in the cradle and (in) maturity And when I taught you the Book and the wisdom and the Taurat and the Injeel and when you make from the clay like the shape (of) the bird by My permission then you breath into it and it becomes a bird by My permission and you heal the born blind and the leper by My permission and when you bring forth the dead by My permission And when I restrained (the) Children (of) Israel from you when you came to them with the clear proofs then said those who disbelieved among them Not (is) this but magic clear

Verse 111

وَإِذْwa-idhAnd when
أَوْحَيْتُawḥaytuI inspired
إِلَىilāto
ٱلْحَوَارِيِّـۧنَl-ḥawāriyīnathe disciples
أَنْanto
ءَامِنُوا۟āminūbelieve
بِىbīin Me
وَبِرَسُولِىwabirasūlīand in My Messenger
قَالُوٓا۟qālūthey said
ءَامَنَّاāmannāWe believe
وَٱشْهَدْwa-ish'hadand bear witness
بِأَنَّنَاbi-annanāthat indeed we
مُسْلِمُونَmus'limūna(are) Muslims

Translation

And when I inspired to the disciples to believe in Me and in My Messenger they said We believe and bear witness that indeed we (are) Muslims

Verse 112

إِذْidhWhen
قَالَqālasaid
ٱلْحَوَارِيُّونَl-ḥawāriyūnathe disciples
يَـٰعِيسَىyāʿīsāO Isa
ٱبْنَib'nason
مَرْيَمَmaryama(of) Maryam
هَلْhalIs
يَسْتَطِيعُyastaṭīʿuable
رَبُّكَrabbukayour Lord
أَنanto
يُنَزِّلَyunazzilasend down
عَلَيْنَاʿalaynāto us
مَآئِدَةًۭmāidatana table spread
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِ ۖl-samāithe heaven
قَالَqālaHe said
ٱتَّقُوا۟ittaqūFear
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
إِنinif
كُنتُمkuntumyou are
مُّؤْمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers

Translation

When said the disciples O Isa son (of) Maryam Is able your Lord to send down to us a table spread from the heaven He said Fear Allah if you are believers

Verse 113

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
نُرِيدُnurīduWe wish
أَنanthat
نَّأْكُلَnakulawe eat
مِنْهَاmin'hāfrom it
وَتَطْمَئِنَّwataṭma-innaand satisfy
قُلُوبُنَاqulūbunāour hearts
وَنَعْلَمَwanaʿlamaand we know
أَنanthat
قَدْqadcertainly
صَدَقْتَنَاṣadaqtanāyou have spoken the truth to us
وَنَكُونَwanakūnaand we be
عَلَيْهَاʿalayhāover it
مِنَminaamong
ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَl-shāhidīnathe witnesses

Translation

They said We wish that we eat from it and satisfy our hearts and we know that certainly you have spoken the truth to us and we be over it among the witnesses

Verse 114

قَالَqālaSaid
عِيسَىʿīsāIsa
ٱبْنُub'nuson
مَرْيَمَmaryama(of) Maryam
ٱللَّهُمَّl-lahumaO Allah
رَبَّنَآrabbanāour Lord
أَنزِلْanzilsend down
عَلَيْنَاʿalaynāto us
مَآئِدَةًۭmāidatana table spread
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe heaven
تَكُونُtakūnuto be
لَنَاlanāfor us
عِيدًۭاʿīdana festival
لِّأَوَّلِنَاli-awwalināfor first of us
وَءَاخِرِنَاwaākhirināand last of us
وَءَايَةًۭwaāyatanand a sign
مِّنكَ ۖminkafrom You
وَٱرْزُقْنَاwa-ur'zuq'nāAnd provide us
وَأَنتَwa-antaand You
خَيْرُkhayru(are) best
ٱلرَّٰزِقِينَl-rāziqīna(of) the providers

Translation

Said Isa son (of) Maryam O Allah our Lord send down to us a table spread from the heaven to be for us a festival for first of us and last of us and a sign from You And provide us and You (are) best (of) the providers

Verse 115

قَالَqālaSaid
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
إِنِّىinnīIndeed I
مُنَزِّلُهَاmunazziluhā(will) send it down
عَلَيْكُمْ ۖʿalaykumto you
فَمَنfamanthen whoever
يَكْفُرْyakfurdisbelieves
بَعْدُbaʿduafter (that)
مِنكُمْminkumamong you
فَإِنِّىٓfa-innīthen indeed I
أُعَذِّبُهُۥuʿadhibuhu[I] will punish him
عَذَابًۭاʿadhāban(with) a punishment
لَّآlānot
أُعَذِّبُهُۥٓuʿadhibuhuI have punished
أَحَدًۭاaḥadananyone
مِّنَminaamong
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds

Translation

Said Allah Indeed I (will) send it down to you then whoever disbelieves after (that) among you then indeed I [I] will punish him (with) a punishment not I have punished anyone among the worlds

Verse 116

وَإِذْwa-idhAnd when
قَالَqālasaid
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
يَـٰعِيسَىyāʿīsāO Isa
ٱبْنَib'nason
مَرْيَمَmaryama(of) Maryam
ءَأَنتَa-antaDid you
قُلْتَqul'tasay
لِلنَّاسِlilnnāsito the people
ٱتَّخِذُونِىittakhidhūnīTake me
وَأُمِّىَwa-ummiyaand my mother
إِلَـٰهَيْنِilāhayni(as) two gods
مِنminfrom
دُونِdūnibesides
ٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahiAllah
قَالَqālaHe said
سُبْحَـٰنَكَsub'ḥānakaGlory be to You
مَاmāNot
يَكُونُyakūnuwas
لِىٓlīfor me
أَنْanthat
أَقُولَaqūlaI say
مَاmāwhat
لَيْسَlaysanot
لِىlīI
بِحَقٍّ ۚbiḥaqqin(had) right
إِنinIf
كُنتُkuntuI had
قُلْتُهُۥqul'tuhusaid it
فَقَدْfaqadthen surely
عَلِمْتَهُۥ ۚʿalim'tahuYou would have known it
تَعْلَمُtaʿlamuYou know
مَاmāwhat
فِىfī(is) in
نَفْسِىnafsīmyself
وَلَآwalāand not
أَعْلَمُaʿlamuI know
مَاmāwhat
فِىfī(is) in
نَفْسِكَ ۚnafsikaYourself
إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, You
أَنتَantaYou
عَلَّـٰمُʿallāmu(are) All-Knower
ٱلْغُيُوبِl-ghuyūbi(of) the unseen

Translation

And when said Allah O Isa son (of) Maryam Did you say to the people Take me and my mother (as) two gods from besides Allah He said Glory be to You Not was for me that I say what not I (had) right If I had said it then surely You would have known it You know what (is) in myself and not I know what (is) in Yourself Indeed, You You (are) All-Knower (of) the unseen

Verse 117

مَاmāNot
قُلْتُqul'tuI said
لَهُمْlahumto them
إِلَّاillāexcept
مَآmāwhat
أَمَرْتَنِىamartanīYou commanded me
بِهِۦٓbihi[with it]
أَنِanithat
ٱعْبُدُوا۟uʿ'budūYou worship
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
رَبِّىrabbīmy Lord
وَرَبَّكُمْ ۚwarabbakumand your Lord
وَكُنتُwakuntuAnd I was
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimover them
شَهِيدًۭاshahīdana witness
مَّاmāthat
دُمْتُdum'tuas long as I
فِيهِمْ ۖfīhim(was) among them
فَلَمَّاfalammāthen when
تَوَفَّيْتَنِىtawaffaytanīYou raised me
كُنتَkuntaYou were
أَنتَanta[You]
ٱلرَّقِيبَl-raqībathe Watcher
عَلَيْهِمْ ۚʿalayhimover them
وَأَنتَwa-antaand You
عَلَىٰʿalā(are) on
كُلِّkullievery
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
شَهِيدٌshahīduna Witness

Translation

Not I said to them except what You commanded me [with it] that You worship Allah my Lord and your Lord And I was over them a witness that as long as I (was) among them then when You raised me You were [You] the Watcher over them and You (are) on every thing a Witness

Verse 118

إِنinIf
تُعَذِّبْهُمْtuʿadhib'humYou punish them
فَإِنَّهُمْfa-innahumthen indeed they
عِبَادُكَ ۖʿibāduka(are) Your slaves
وَإِنwa-inand if
تَغْفِرْtaghfirYou forgive
لَهُمْlahum[for] them
فَإِنَّكَfa-innakathen indeed You
أَنتَantaYou
ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzu(are) the All-Mighty
ٱلْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuthe All-Wise

Translation

If You punish them then indeed they (are) Your slaves and if You forgive [for] them then indeed You You (are) the All-Mighty the All-Wise

Verse 119

قَالَqālaWill say
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
هَـٰذَاhādhāThis
يَوْمُyawmuDay
يَنفَعُyanfaʿuwill profit
ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَl-ṣādiqīnathe truthful
صِدْقُهُمْ ۚṣid'quhumtheir truthfulness
لَهُمْlahumFor them
جَنَّـٰتٌۭjannātun(are) Gardens
تَجْرِىtajrīflows
مِنminfrom
تَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath it
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُl-anhāruthe rivers
خَـٰلِدِينَkhālidīnawill abide
فِيهَآfīhāin it
أَبَدًۭا ۚabadanforever
رَّضِىَraḍiyais pleased
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
عَنْهُمْʿanhumwith them
وَرَضُوا۟waraḍūand they are pleased
عَنْهُ ۚʿanhuwith Him
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
ٱلْفَوْزُl-fawzu(is) the success
ٱلْعَظِيمُl-ʿaẓīmu(the) great

Translation

Will say Allah This Day will profit the truthful their truthfulness For them (are) Gardens flows from underneath it the rivers will abide in it forever is pleased Allah with them and they are pleased with Him That (is) the success (the) great

Verse 120

لِلَّهِlillahiTo Allah (belongs)
مُلْكُmul'kuthe dominion
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth
وَمَاwamāand what
فِيهِنَّ ۚfīhinna(is) in them
وَهُوَwahuwaAnd He
عَلَىٰʿalā(is) on
كُلِّkullievery
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
قَدِيرٌۢqadīrunAll-Powerful

Translation

To Allah (belongs) the dominion (of) the heavens and the earth and what (is) in them And He (is) on every thing All-Powerful
