Chapter 50Meccan45 Verses

Verse 1

قٓ ۚqafQaf
وَٱلْقُرْءَانِwal-qur'āniBy the Quran
ٱلْمَجِيدِl-majīdithe Glorious

Translation

Qaf By the Quran the Glorious

Verse 2

بَلْbalNay
عَجِبُوٓا۟ʿajibūthey wonder
أَنanthat
جَآءَهُمjāahumhas come to them
مُّنذِرٌۭmundhiruna warner
مِّنْهُمْmin'humfrom them
فَقَالَfaqālaSo say
ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَl-kāfirūnathe disbelievers
هَـٰذَاhādhāThis
شَىْءٌshayon(is) a thing
عَجِيبٌʿajībunamazing

Translation

Nay they wonder that has come to them a warner from them So say the disbelievers This (is) a thing amazing

Verse 3

أَءِذَاa-idhāWhat! When
مِتْنَاmit'nāwe die
وَكُنَّاwakunnāand have become
تُرَابًۭا ۖturābandust
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
رَجْعٌۢrajʿun(is) a return
بَعِيدٌۭbaʿīdunfar

Translation

What! When we die and have become dust That (is) a return far

Verse 4

قَدْqadCertainly
عَلِمْنَاʿalim'nāWe know
مَاmāwhat
تَنقُصُtanquṣudiminishes
ٱلْأَرْضُl-arḍuthe earth
مِنْهُمْ ۖmin'humof them
وَعِندَنَاwaʿindanāand with Us
كِتَـٰبٌkitābun(is) a Book
حَفِيظٌۢḥafīẓunguarded

Translation

Certainly We know what diminishes the earth of them and with Us (is) a Book guarded

Verse 5

بَلْbalNay
كَذَّبُوا۟kadhabūthey denied
بِٱلْحَقِّbil-ḥaqithe truth
لَمَّاlammāwhen
جَآءَهُمْjāahumit came (to) them
فَهُمْfahumso they
فِىٓfī(are) in
أَمْرٍۢamrina state
مَّرِيجٍmarījinconfused

Translation

Nay they denied the truth when it came (to) them so they (are) in a state confused

Verse 6

أَفَلَمْafalamThen do not
يَنظُرُوٓا۟yanẓurūthey look
إِلَىilāat
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe sky
فَوْقَهُمْfawqahumabove them
كَيْفَkayfahow
بَنَيْنَـٰهَاbanaynāhāWe structured it
وَزَيَّنَّـٰهَاwazayyannāhāand adorned it
وَمَاwamāand not
لَهَاlahāfor it
مِنminany
فُرُوجٍۢfurūjinrifts

Translation

Then do not they look at the sky above them how We structured it and adorned it and not for it any rifts

Verse 7

وَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍaAnd the earth
مَدَدْنَـٰهَاmadadnāhāWe have spread it out
وَأَلْقَيْنَاwa-alqaynāand cast
فِيهَاfīhātherein
رَوَٰسِىَrawāsiyafirmly set mountains
وَأَنۢبَتْنَاwa-anbatnāand We made to grow
فِيهَاfīhātherein
مِنminof
كُلِّkullievery
زَوْجٍۭzawjinkind
بَهِيجٍۢbahījinbeautiful

Translation

And the earth We have spread it out and cast therein firmly set mountains and We made to grow therein of every kind beautiful

Verse 8

تَبْصِرَةًۭtabṣiratanGiving insight
وَذِكْرَىٰwadhik'rāand a reminder
لِكُلِّlikullifor every
عَبْدٍۢʿabdinslave
مُّنِيبٍۢmunībinwho turns

Translation

Giving insight and a reminder for every slave who turns

Verse 9

وَنَزَّلْنَاwanazzalnāAnd We have sent down
مِنَminafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe sky
مَآءًۭmāanwater
مُّبَـٰرَكًۭاmubārakanblessed
فَأَنۢبَتْنَاfa-anbatnāthen We made to grow
بِهِۦbihithereby
جَنَّـٰتٍۢjannātingardens
وَحَبَّwaḥabbaand grain
ٱلْحَصِيدِl-ḥaṣīdi(for) the harvest

Translation

And We have sent down from the sky water blessed then We made to grow thereby gardens and grain (for) the harvest

Verse 10

وَٱلنَّخْلَwal-nakhlaAnd the palms trees
بَاسِقَـٰتٍۢbāsiqātintall
لَّهَاlahāfor it
طَلْعٌۭṭalʿun(are) layers
نَّضِيدٌۭnaḍīdunarranged

Translation

And the palms trees tall for it (are) layers arranged

Verse 11

رِّزْقًۭاriz'qanA provision
لِّلْعِبَادِ ۖlil'ʿibādifor the slaves
وَأَحْيَيْنَاwa-aḥyaynāand We give life
بِهِۦbihitherewith
بَلْدَةًۭbaldatan(to) a land
مَّيْتًۭا ۚmaytandead
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
ٱلْخُرُوجُl-khurūju(will be) the coming forth

Translation

A provision for the slaves and We give life therewith (to) a land dead Thus (will be) the coming forth

Verse 12

كَذَّبَتْkadhabatDenied
قَبْلَهُمْqablahumbefore them
قَوْمُqawmu(the) people
نُوحٍۢnūḥin(of) Nuh
وَأَصْحَـٰبُwa-aṣḥābuand (the) companions
ٱلرَّسِّl-rasi(of) Ar-Raas
وَثَمُودُwathamūduand Thamud

Translation

Denied before them (the) people (of) Nuh and (the) companions (of) Ar-Raas and Thamud

Verse 13

وَعَادٌۭwaʿādunAnd Aad
وَفِرْعَوْنُwafir'ʿawnuand Firaun
وَإِخْوَٰنُwa-ikh'wānuand (the) brothers
لُوطٍۢlūṭin(of) Lut

Translation

And Aad and Firaun and (the) brothers (of) Lut

Verse 14

وَأَصْحَـٰبُwa-aṣḥābuAnd (the) companions
ٱلْأَيْكَةِl-aykati(of) the wood
وَقَوْمُwaqawmuand (the) people
تُبَّعٍۢ ۚtubbaʿin(of) Tubba
كُلٌّۭkullunAll
كَذَّبَkadhabadenied
ٱلرُّسُلَl-rusulathe Messengers
فَحَقَّfaḥaqqaso was fulfilled
وَعِيدِwaʿīdiMy Threat

Translation

And (the) companions (of) the wood and (the) people (of) Tubba All denied the Messengers so was fulfilled My Threat

Verse 15

أَفَعَيِينَاafaʿayīnāWere We then tired
بِٱلْخَلْقِbil-khalqiwith the creation
ٱلْأَوَّلِ ۚl-awalithe first
بَلْbalNay
هُمْhumthey
فِىfī(are) in
لَبْسٍۢlabsindoubt
مِّنْminabout
خَلْقٍۢkhalqina creation
جَدِيدٍۢjadīdinnew

Translation

Were We then tired with the creation the first Nay they (are) in doubt about a creation new

Verse 16

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainly
خَلَقْنَاkhalaqnāWe created
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَl-insānaman
وَنَعْلَمُwanaʿlamuand We know
مَاmāwhat
تُوَسْوِسُtuwaswisuwhispers
بِهِۦbihito him
نَفْسُهُۥ ۖnafsuhuhis soul
وَنَحْنُwanaḥnuand We
أَقْرَبُaqrabu(are) nearer
إِلَيْهِilayhito him
مِنْminthan
حَبْلِḥabli(his) jugular vein
ٱلْوَرِيدِl-warīdi(his) jugular vein

Translation

And certainly We created man and We know what whispers to him his soul and We (are) nearer to him than (his) jugular vein (his) jugular vein

Verse 17

إِذْidhWhen
يَتَلَقَّىyatalaqqāreceive
ٱلْمُتَلَقِّيَانِl-mutalaqiyānithe two receivers
عَنِʿanion
ٱلْيَمِينِl-yamīnithe right
وَعَنِwaʿaniand on
ٱلشِّمَالِl-shimālithe left
قَعِيدٌۭqaʿīdunseated

Translation

When receive the two receivers on the right and on the left seated

Verse 18

مَّاmāNot
يَلْفِظُyalfiẓuhe utters
مِنminany
قَوْلٍqawlinword
إِلَّاillābut
لَدَيْهِladayhiwith him
رَقِيبٌraqībun(is) an observer
عَتِيدٌۭʿatīdunready

Translation

Not he utters any word but with him (is) an observer ready

Verse 19

وَجَآءَتْwajāatAnd will come
سَكْرَةُsakratu(the) stupor
ٱلْمَوْتِl-mawti(of) death
بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖbil-ḥaqiin truth
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
مَاmā(is) what
كُنتَkuntayou were
مِنْهُmin'hu[from it]
تَحِيدُtaḥīduavoiding

Translation

And will come (the) stupor (of) death in truth That (is) what you were [from it] avoiding

Verse 20

وَنُفِخَwanufikhaAnd will be blown
فِىfī[in]
ٱلصُّورِ ۚl-ṣūrithe trumpet
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
يَوْمُyawmu(is the) Day
ٱلْوَعِيدِl-waʿīdi(of) the Warning

Translation

And will be blown [in] the trumpet That (is the) Day (of) the Warning

Verse 21

وَجَآءَتْwajāatAnd will come
كُلُّkulluevery
نَفْسٍۢnafsinsoul
مَّعَهَاmaʿahāwith it
سَآئِقٌۭsāiquna driver
وَشَهِيدٌۭwashahīdunand a witness

Translation

And will come every soul with it a driver and a witness

Verse 22

لَّقَدْlaqadCertainly
كُنتَkuntayou were
فِىfīin
غَفْلَةٍۢghaflatinheedlessness
مِّنْminof
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
فَكَشَفْنَاfakashafnāSo We have removed
عَنكَʿankafrom you
غِطَآءَكَghiṭāakayour cover
فَبَصَرُكَfabaṣarukaso your sight
ٱلْيَوْمَl-yawmatoday
حَدِيدٌۭḥadīdun(is) sharp

Translation

Certainly you were in heedlessness of this So We have removed from you your cover so your sight today (is) sharp

Verse 23

وَقَالَwaqālaAnd (will) say
قَرِينُهُۥqarīnuhuhis companion
هَـٰذَاhādhāThis
مَاmā(is) what
لَدَىَّladayya(is) with me
عَتِيدٌʿatīdunready

Translation

And (will) say his companion This (is) what (is) with me ready

Verse 24

أَلْقِيَاalqiyāThrow
فِىfīin (to)
جَهَنَّمَjahannamaHell
كُلَّkullaevery
كَفَّارٍkaffārindisbeliever
عَنِيدٍۢʿanīdinstubborn

Translation

Throw in (to) Hell every disbeliever stubborn

Verse 25

مَّنَّاعٍۢmannāʿinForbidder
لِّلْخَيْرِlil'khayriof good
مُعْتَدٍۢmuʿ'tadintransgressor
مُّرِيبٍmurībindoubter

Translation

Forbidder of good transgressor doubter

Verse 26

ٱلَّذِىalladhīWho
جَعَلَjaʿalamade
مَعَmaʿawith
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
إِلَـٰهًاilāhana god
ءَاخَرَākharaanother
فَأَلْقِيَاهُfa-alqiyāhuso throw him
فِىfīin(to)
ٱلْعَذَابِl-ʿadhābithe punishment
ٱلشَّدِيدِl-shadīdithe severe

Translation

Who made with Allah a god another so throw him in(to) the punishment the severe

Verse 27

۞ قَالَqālaWill say
قَرِينُهُۥqarīnuhuhis companion
رَبَّنَاrabbanāOur Lord
مَآmānot
أَطْغَيْتُهُۥaṭghaytuhuI made him transgress
وَلَـٰكِنwalākinbut
كَانَkānahe was
فِىfīin
ضَلَـٰلٍۭḍalālinerror
بَعِيدٍۢbaʿīdinfar

Translation

Will say his companion Our Lord not I made him transgress but he was in error far

Verse 28

قَالَqālaHe will say
لَاlā(Do) not
تَخْتَصِمُوا۟takhtaṣimūdispute
لَدَىَّladayya(in) My presence
وَقَدْwaqadand indeed
قَدَّمْتُqaddamtuI sent forth
إِلَيْكُمilaykumto you
بِٱلْوَعِيدِbil-waʿīdithe Warning

Translation

He will say (Do) not dispute (in) My presence and indeed I sent forth to you the Warning

Verse 29

مَاmāNot
يُبَدَّلُyubaddaluwill be changed
ٱلْقَوْلُl-qawluthe word
لَدَىَّladayyawith Me
وَمَآwamāand not
أَنَا۠anāI Am
بِظَلَّـٰمٍۢbiẓallāminunjust
لِّلْعَبِيدِlil'ʿabīdito My slaves

Translation

Not will be changed the word with Me and not I Am unjust to My slaves

Verse 30

يَوْمَyawma(The) Day
نَقُولُnaqūluWe will say
لِجَهَنَّمَlijahannamato Hell
هَلِhaliAre
ٱمْتَلَأْتِim'talatiyou filled
وَتَقُولُwataqūluAnd it will say
هَلْhalAre
مِنmin(there) any
مَّزِيدٍۢmazīdinmore

Translation

(The) Day We will say to Hell Are you filled And it will say Are (there) any more

Verse 31

وَأُزْلِفَتِwa-uz'lifatiAnd will be brought near
ٱلْجَنَّةُl-janatuthe Paradise
لِلْمُتَّقِينَlil'muttaqīnato the righteous
غَيْرَghayranot
بَعِيدٍbaʿīdinfar

Translation

And will be brought near the Paradise to the righteous not far

Verse 32

هَـٰذَاhādhāThis
مَاmā(is) what
تُوعَدُونَtūʿadūnayou were promised
لِكُلِّlikullifor everyone
أَوَّابٍawwābinwho turns
حَفِيظٍۢḥafīẓin(and) who keeps

Translation

This (is) what you were promised for everyone who turns (and) who keeps

Verse 33

مَّنْmanWho
خَشِىَkhashiyafeared
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنَl-raḥmānathe Most Gracious
بِٱلْغَيْبِbil-ghaybiin the unseen
وَجَآءَwajāaand came
بِقَلْبٍۢbiqalbinwith a heart
مُّنِيبٍmunībinreturning

Translation

Who feared the Most Gracious in the unseen and came with a heart returning

Verse 34

ٱدْخُلُوهَاud'khulūhāEnter it
بِسَلَـٰمٍۢ ۖbisalāminin peace
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
يَوْمُyawmu(is) a Day
ٱلْخُلُودِl-khulūdi(of) Eternity

Translation

Enter it in peace That (is) a Day (of) Eternity

Verse 35

لَهُمlahumFor them
مَّاmāwhatever
يَشَآءُونَyashāūnathey wish
فِيهَاfīhātherein
وَلَدَيْنَاwaladaynāand with Us
مَزِيدٌۭmazīdun(is) more

Translation

For them whatever they wish therein and with Us (is) more

Verse 36

وَكَمْwakamAnd how many
أَهْلَكْنَاahlaknāWe destroyed
قَبْلَهُمqablahumbefore them
مِّنminof
قَرْنٍqarnina generation
هُمْhumthey
أَشَدُّashaddu(were) stronger
مِنْهُمmin'humthan them
بَطْشًۭاbaṭshan(in) power
فَنَقَّبُوا۟fanaqqabūso they explored
فِىfīthroughout
ٱلْبِلَـٰدِl-bilādithe lands
هَلْhalIs (there)
مِنminany
مَّحِيصٍmaḥīṣinplace of escape

Translation

And how many We destroyed before them of a generation they (were) stronger than them (in) power so they explored throughout the lands Is (there) any place of escape

Verse 37

إِنَّinnaIndeed
فِىfīin
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
لَذِكْرَىٰladhik'rāsurely, is a reminder
لِمَنlimanfor (one) who
كَانَkānais
لَهُۥlahufor him
قَلْبٌqalbuna heart
أَوْawor
أَلْقَىalqā(who) gives ear
ٱلسَّمْعَl-samʿa(who) gives ear
وَهُوَwahuwawhile he
شَهِيدٌۭshahīdun(is) a witness

Translation

Indeed in that surely, is a reminder for (one) who is for him a heart or (who) gives ear (who) gives ear while he (is) a witness

Verse 38

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainly
خَلَقْنَاkhalaqnāWe created
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earth
وَمَاwamāand whatever
بَيْنَهُمَاbaynahumā(is) between both of them
فِىfīin
سِتَّةِsittatisix
أَيَّامٍۢayyāminperiods
وَمَاwamāand (did) not
مَسَّنَاmassanātouch Us
مِنminany
لُّغُوبٍۢlughūbinfatigue

Translation

And certainly We created the heavens and the earth and whatever (is) between both of them in six periods and (did) not touch Us any fatigue

Verse 39

فَٱصْبِرْfa-iṣ'birSo be patient
عَلَىٰʿalāover
مَاmāwhat
يَقُولُونَyaqūlūnathey say
وَسَبِّحْwasabbiḥand glorify
بِحَمْدِbiḥamdi(the) praise
رَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lord
قَبْلَqablabefore
طُلُوعِṭulūʿi(the) rising
ٱلشَّمْسِl-shamsi(of) the sun
وَقَبْلَwaqablaand before
ٱلْغُرُوبِl-ghurūbithe setting

Translation

So be patient over what they say and glorify (the) praise (of) your Lord before (the) rising (of) the sun and before the setting

Verse 40

وَمِنَwaminaAnd of
ٱلَّيْلِal-laylithe night
فَسَبِّحْهُfasabbiḥ'huglorify Him
وَأَدْبَـٰرَwa-adbāraand after
ٱلسُّجُودِl-sujūdithe prostration

Translation

And of the night glorify Him and after the prostration

Verse 41

وَٱسْتَمِعْwa-is'tamiʿAnd listen
يَوْمَyawma(The) Day
يُنَادِyunādiwill call
ٱلْمُنَادِl-munādithe caller
مِنminfrom
مَّكَانٍۢmakānina place
قَرِيبٍۢqarībinnear

Translation

And listen (The) Day will call the caller from a place near

Verse 42

يَوْمَyawma(The) Day
يَسْمَعُونَyasmaʿūnathey will hear
ٱلصَّيْحَةَl-ṣayḥatathe Blast
بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚbil-ḥaqiin truth
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
يَوْمُyawmu(is the) Day
ٱلْخُرُوجِl-khurūji(of) coming forth

Translation

(The) Day they will hear the Blast in truth That (is the) Day (of) coming forth

Verse 43

إِنَّاinnāIndeed, We
نَحْنُnaḥnu[We]
نُحْىِۦnuḥ'yī[We] give life
وَنُمِيتُwanumītuand [We] cause death
وَإِلَيْنَاwa-ilaynāand to Us
ٱلْمَصِيرُl-maṣīru(is) the final return

Translation

Indeed, We [We] [We] give life and [We] cause death and to Us (is) the final return

Verse 44

يَوْمَyawma(The) Day
تَشَقَّقُtashaqqaquwill split
ٱلْأَرْضُl-arḍuthe earth
عَنْهُمْʿanhumfrom them
سِرَاعًۭا ۚsirāʿanhurrying
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
حَشْرٌḥashrun(is) a gathering
عَلَيْنَاʿalaynāfor Us
يَسِيرٌۭyasīruneasy

Translation

(The) Day will split the earth from them hurrying That (is) a gathering for Us easy

Verse 45

نَّحْنُnaḥnuWe
أَعْلَمُaʿlamuknow best
بِمَاbimā[of] what
يَقُولُونَ ۖyaqūlūnathey say
وَمَآwamāand not
أَنتَanta(are) you
عَلَيْهِمʿalayhimover them
بِجَبَّارٍۢ ۖbijabbārinthe one to compel
فَذَكِّرْfadhakkirBut remind
بِٱلْقُرْءَانِbil-qur'āniwith the Quran
مَنmanwhoever
يَخَافُyakhāfufears
وَعِيدِwaʿīdiMy threat

Translation

We know best [of] what they say and not (are) you over them the one to compel But remind with the Quran whoever fears My threat
