Chapter 51Meccan60 Verses

Verse 1

وَٱلذَّٰرِيَـٰتِwal-dhāriyātiBy those scattering
ذَرْوًۭاdharwandispersing

Translation

By those scattering dispersing

Verse 2

فَٱلْحَـٰمِلَـٰتِfal-ḥāmilātiAnd those carrying
وِقْرًۭاwiq'rana load

Translation

And those carrying a load

Verse 3

فَٱلْجَـٰرِيَـٰتِfal-jāriyātiAnd those sailing
يُسْرًۭاyus'ran(with) ease

Translation

And those sailing (with) ease

Verse 4

فَٱلْمُقَسِّمَـٰتِfal-muqasimātiAnd those distributing
أَمْرًاamranCommand

Translation

And those distributing Command

Verse 5

إِنَّمَاinnamāIndeed, what
تُوعَدُونَtūʿadūnayou are promised
لَصَادِقٌۭlaṣādiqun(is) surely true

Translation

Indeed, what you are promised (is) surely true

Verse 6

وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
ٱلدِّينَl-dīnathe Judgment
لَوَٰقِعٌۭlawāqiʿun(is) surely to occur

Translation

And indeed the Judgment (is) surely to occur

Verse 7

وَٱلسَّمَآءِwal-samāiBy the heaven
ذَاتِdhātifull of
ٱلْحُبُكِl-ḥubukipathways

Translation

By the heaven full of pathways

Verse 8

إِنَّكُمْinnakumIndeed, you
لَفِىlafī(are) surely in
قَوْلٍۢqawlina speech
مُّخْتَلِفٍۢmukh'talifindiffering

Translation

Indeed, you (are) surely in a speech differing

Verse 9

يُؤْفَكُyu'fakuDeluded away
عَنْهُʿanhufrom it
مَنْman(is he) who
أُفِكَufikais deluded

Translation

Deluded away from it (is he) who is deluded

Verse 10

قُتِلَqutilaCursed be
ٱلْخَرَّٰصُونَl-kharāṣūnathe liars

Translation

Cursed be the liars

Verse 11

ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose who
هُمْhum[they]
فِىfī(are) in
غَمْرَةٍۢghamratinflood
سَاهُونَsāhūna(of) heedlessness

Translation

Those who [they] (are) in flood (of) heedlessness

Verse 12

يَسْـَٔلُونَyasalūnaThey ask
أَيَّانَayyānaWhen
يَوْمُyawmu(is the) Day
ٱلدِّينِl-dīni(of) Judgment

Translation

They ask When (is the) Day (of) Judgment

Verse 13

يَوْمَyawmaA Day
هُمْhumthey
عَلَىʿalāover
ٱلنَّارِl-nārithe Fire
يُفْتَنُونَyuf'tanūnawill be tried

Translation

A Day they over the Fire will be tried

Verse 14

ذُوقُوا۟dhūqūTaste
فِتْنَتَكُمْfit'natakumyour trial
هَـٰذَاhādhāThis
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) what
كُنتُمkuntumyou were
بِهِۦbihifor it
تَسْتَعْجِلُونَtastaʿjilūnaseeking to hasten

Translation

Taste your trial This (is) what you were for it seeking to hasten

Verse 15

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīnathe righteous
فِىfī(will be) in
جَنَّـٰتٍۢjannātinGardens
وَعُيُونٍwaʿuyūninand springs

Translation

Indeed the righteous (will be) in Gardens and springs

Verse 16

ءَاخِذِينَākhidhīnaTaking
مَآmāwhat
ءَاتَىٰهُمْātāhumtheir Lord has given them
رَبُّهُمْ ۚrabbuhumtheir Lord has given them
إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, they
كَانُوا۟kānūwere
قَبْلَqablabefore
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
مُحْسِنِينَmuḥ'sinīnagood-doers

Translation

Taking what their Lord has given them their Lord has given them Indeed, they were before that good-doers

Verse 17

كَانُوا۟kānūThey used to
قَلِيلًۭاqalīlanlittle
مِّنَminaof
ٱلَّيْلِal-laylithe night
مَاmā[what]
يَهْجَعُونَyahjaʿūnasleep

Translation

They used to little of the night [what] sleep

Verse 18

وَبِٱلْأَسْحَارِwabil-asḥāriAnd in the hours before dawn
هُمْhumthey
يَسْتَغْفِرُونَyastaghfirūnawould ask forgiveness

Translation

And in the hours before dawn they would ask forgiveness

Verse 19

وَفِىٓwafīAnd in
أَمْوَٰلِهِمْamwālihimtheir wealth
حَقٌّۭḥaqqun(was the) right
لِّلسَّآئِلِlilssāili(of) those who asked
وَٱلْمَحْرُومِwal-maḥrūmiand the deprived

Translation

And in their wealth (was the) right (of) those who asked and the deprived

Verse 20

وَفِىwafīAnd in
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
ءَايَـٰتٌۭāyātun(are) signs
لِّلْمُوقِنِينَlil'mūqinīnafor those who are certain

Translation

And in the earth (are) signs for those who are certain

Verse 21

وَفِىٓwafīAnd in
أَنفُسِكُمْ ۚanfusikumyourselves
أَفَلَاafalāThen will not
تُبْصِرُونَtub'ṣirūnayou see

Translation

And in yourselves Then will not you see

Verse 22

وَفِىwafīAnd in
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe heaven
رِزْقُكُمْriz'qukum(is) your provision
وَمَاwamāand what
تُوعَدُونَtūʿadūnayou are promised

Translation

And in the heaven (is) your provision and what you are promised

Verse 23

فَوَرَبِّfawarabbiThen by (the) Lord
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāi(of) the heaven
وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth
إِنَّهُۥinnahuindeed, it
لَحَقٌّۭlaḥaqqun(is) surely (the) truth
مِّثْلَmith'la(just) as
مَآmā[what]
أَنَّكُمْannakumyou
تَنطِقُونَtanṭiqūnaspeak

Translation

Then by (the) Lord (of) the heaven and the earth indeed, it (is) surely (the) truth (just) as [what] you speak

Verse 24

هَلْhalHas
أَتَىٰكَatākareached you
حَدِيثُḥadīthu(the) narration
ضَيْفِḍayfi(of the) guests
إِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīma(of) Ibrahim
ٱلْمُكْرَمِينَl-muk'ramīnathe honored

Translation

Has reached you (the) narration (of the) guests (of) Ibrahim the honored

Verse 25

إِذْidhWhen
دَخَلُوا۟dakhalūthey entered
عَلَيْهِʿalayhiupon him
فَقَالُوا۟faqālūand said
سَلَـٰمًۭا ۖsalāmanPeace
قَالَqālaHe said
سَلَـٰمٌۭsalāmunPeace
قَوْمٌۭqawmuna people
مُّنكَرُونَmunkarūnaunknown

Translation

When they entered upon him and said Peace He said Peace a people unknown

Verse 26

فَرَاغَfarāghaThen he went
إِلَىٰٓilāto
أَهْلِهِۦahlihihis household
فَجَآءَfajāaand came
بِعِجْلٍۢbiʿij'linwith a calf
سَمِينٍۢsamīninfat

Translation

Then he went to his household and came with a calf fat

Verse 27

فَقَرَّبَهُۥٓfaqarrabahuAnd he placed it near
إِلَيْهِمْilayhim[to] them
قَالَqālahe said
أَلَاalāWill not
تَأْكُلُونَtakulūnayou eat

Translation

And he placed it near [to] them he said Will not you eat

Verse 28

فَأَوْجَسَfa-awjasaThen he felt
مِنْهُمْmin'humfrom them
خِيفَةًۭ ۖkhīfatana fear
قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
لَاlā(Do) not
تَخَفْ ۖtakhaffear
وَبَشَّرُوهُwabasharūhuand they gave him glad tidings
بِغُلَـٰمٍbighulāminof a son
عَلِيمٍۢʿalīminlearned

Translation

Then he felt from them a fear They said (Do) not fear and they gave him glad tidings of a son learned

Verse 29

فَأَقْبَلَتِfa-aqbalatiThen came forward
ٱمْرَأَتُهُۥim'ra-atuhuhis wife
فِىfīwith
صَرَّةٍۢṣarratina loud voice
فَصَكَّتْfaṣakkatand struck
وَجْهَهَاwajhahāher face
وَقَالَتْwaqālatand she said
عَجُوزٌʿajūzunAn old woman
عَقِيمٌۭʿaqīmunbarren

Translation

Then came forward his wife with a loud voice and struck her face and she said An old woman barren

Verse 30

قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
كَذَٰلِكِkadhālikiThus
قَالَqālasaid
رَبُّكِ ۖrabbukiyour Lord
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, He
هُوَhuwa[He]
ٱلْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmu(is) the All-Wise
ٱلْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmuthe All-Knower

Translation

They said Thus said your Lord Indeed, He [He] (is) the All-Wise the All-Knower

Verse 31

۞ قَالَqālaHe said
فَمَاfamāThen what
خَطْبُكُمْkhaṭbukum(is) your mission
أَيُّهَاayyuhāO messengers
ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَl-mur'salūnaO messengers

Translation

He said Then what (is) your mission O messengers O messengers

Verse 32

قَالُوٓا۟qālūThey said
إِنَّآinnāIndeed, we
أُرْسِلْنَآur'sil'nā[we] have been sent
إِلَىٰilāto
قَوْمٍۢqawmina people
مُّجْرِمِينَmuj'rimīnacriminal

Translation

They said Indeed, we [we] have been sent to a people criminal

Verse 33

لِنُرْسِلَlinur'silaThat we may send down
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimupon them
حِجَارَةًۭḥijāratanstones
مِّنminof
طِينٍۢṭīninclay

Translation

That we may send down upon them stones of clay

Verse 34

مُّسَوَّمَةًmusawwamatanMarked
عِندَʿindaby your Lord
رَبِّكَrabbikaby your Lord
لِلْمُسْرِفِينَlil'mus'rifīnafor the transgressors

Translation

Marked by your Lord by your Lord for the transgressors

Verse 35

فَأَخْرَجْنَاfa-akhrajnāThen We brought out
مَنman(those) who
كَانَkānawere
فِيهَاfīhātherein
مِنَminaof
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers

Translation

Then We brought out (those) who were therein of the believers

Verse 36

فَمَاfamāBut not
وَجَدْنَاwajadnāWe found
فِيهَاfīhātherein
غَيْرَghayraother than
بَيْتٍۢbaytina house
مِّنَminaof
ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَl-mus'limīnathe Muslims

Translation

But not We found therein other than a house of the Muslims

Verse 37

وَتَرَكْنَاwataraknāAnd We left
فِيهَآfīhātherein
ءَايَةًۭāyatana Sign
لِّلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those who
يَخَافُونَyakhāfūnafear
ٱلْعَذَابَl-ʿadhābathe punishment
ٱلْأَلِيمَl-alīmathe painful

Translation

And We left therein a Sign for those who fear the punishment the painful

Verse 38

وَفِىwafīAnd in
مُوسَىٰٓmūsāMusa
إِذْidhwhen
أَرْسَلْنَـٰهُarsalnāhuWe sent him
إِلَىٰilāto
فِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawnaFiraun
بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۢbisul'ṭāninwith an authority
مُّبِينٍۢmubīninclear

Translation

And in Musa when We sent him to Firaun with an authority clear

Verse 39

فَتَوَلَّىٰfatawallāBut he turned away
بِرُكْنِهِۦbiruk'nihiwith his supporters
وَقَالَwaqālaand said
سَـٰحِرٌsāḥirunA magician
أَوْawor
مَجْنُونٌۭmajnūnuna madman

Translation

But he turned away with his supporters and said A magician or a madman

Verse 40

فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُfa-akhadhnāhuSo We took him
وَجُنُودَهُۥwajunūdahuand his hosts
فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُمْfanabadhnāhumand threw them
فِىfīinto
ٱلْيَمِّl-yamithe sea
وَهُوَwahuwawhile he
مُلِيمٌۭmulīmun(was) blameworthy

Translation

So We took him and his hosts and threw them into the sea while he (was) blameworthy

Verse 41

وَفِىwafīAnd in
عَادٍʿādinAad
إِذْidhwhen
أَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sent
عَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimuagainst them
ٱلرِّيحَl-rīḥathe wind
ٱلْعَقِيمَl-ʿaqīmathe barren

Translation

And in Aad when We sent against them the wind the barren

Verse 42

مَاmāNot
تَذَرُtadharuit left
مِنminany
شَىْءٍshayinthing
أَتَتْatatit came
عَلَيْهِʿalayhiupon it
إِلَّاillābut
جَعَلَتْهُjaʿalathuit made it
كَٱلرَّمِيمِkal-ramīmilike disintegrated ruins

Translation

Not it left any thing it came upon it but it made it like disintegrated ruins

Verse 43

وَفِىwafīAnd in
ثَمُودَthamūdaThamud
إِذْidhwhen
قِيلَqīlawas said
لَهُمْlahumto them
تَمَتَّعُوا۟tamattaʿūEnjoy (yourselves)
حَتَّىٰḥattāfor
حِينٍۢḥīnina time

Translation

And in Thamud when was said to them Enjoy (yourselves) for a time

Verse 44

فَعَتَوْا۟faʿatawBut they rebelled
عَنْʿanagainst
أَمْرِamri(the) Command
رَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) their Lord
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُfa-akhadhathumuso seized them
ٱلصَّـٰعِقَةُl-ṣāʿiqatuthe thunderbolt
وَهُمْwahumwhile they
يَنظُرُونَyanẓurūnawere looking

Translation

But they rebelled against (the) Command (of) their Lord so seized them the thunderbolt while they were looking

Verse 45

فَمَاfamāThen not
ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟is'taṭāʿūthey were able to
مِنmin[of]
قِيَامٍۢqiyāminstand
وَمَاwamāand not
كَانُوا۟kānūthey could
مُنتَصِرِينَmuntaṣirīnahelp themselves

Translation

Then not they were able to [of] stand and not they could help themselves

Verse 46

وَقَوْمَwaqawmaAnd (the) people
نُوحٍۢnūḥin(of) Nuh
مِّنminbefore
قَبْلُ ۖqablubefore
إِنَّهُمْinnahumindeed, they
كَانُوا۟kānūwere
قَوْمًۭاqawmana people
فَـٰسِقِينَfāsiqīnadefiantly disobedient

Translation

And (the) people (of) Nuh before before indeed, they were a people defiantly disobedient

Verse 47

وَٱلسَّمَآءَwal-samāaAnd the heaven
بَنَيْنَـٰهَاbanaynāhāWe constructed it
بِأَيْي۟دٍۢbi-aydinwith strength
وَإِنَّاwa-innāand indeed, We
لَمُوسِعُونَlamūsiʿūna(are) surely (its) Expanders

Translation

And the heaven We constructed it with strength and indeed, We (are) surely (its) Expanders

Verse 48

وَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍaAnd the earth
فَرَشْنَـٰهَاfarashnāhāWe have spread it
فَنِعْمَfaniʿ'mahow excellent
ٱلْمَـٰهِدُونَl-māhidūna(are) the Spreaders

Translation

And the earth We have spread it how excellent (are) the Spreaders

Verse 49

وَمِنwaminAnd of
كُلِّkullievery
شَىْءٍshayinthing
خَلَقْنَاkhalaqnāWe have created
زَوْجَيْنِzawjaynipairs
لَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you may
تَذَكَّرُونَtadhakkarūnaremember

Translation

And of every thing We have created pairs so that you may remember

Verse 50

فَفِرُّوٓا۟fafirrūSo flee
إِلَىilāto
ٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahiAllah
إِنِّىinnīindeed, I am
لَكُمlakumto you
مِّنْهُmin'hufrom Him
نَذِيرٌۭnadhīruna warner
مُّبِينٌۭmubīnunclear

Translation

So flee to Allah indeed, I am to you from Him a warner clear

Verse 51

وَلَاwalāAnd (do) not
تَجْعَلُوا۟tajʿalūmake
مَعَmaʿawith
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
إِلَـٰهًاilāhangod
ءَاخَرَ ۖākharaanother
إِنِّىinnīIndeed, I am
لَكُمlakumto you
مِّنْهُmin'hufrom Him
نَذِيرٌۭnadhīruna warner
مُّبِينٌۭmubīnunclear

Translation

And (do) not make with Allah god another Indeed, I am to you from Him a warner clear

Verse 52

كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaLikewise
مَآmānot
أَتَىatācame
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(to) those
مِنminbefore them
قَبْلِهِمqablihimbefore them
مِّنminany
رَّسُولٍrasūlinMessenger
إِلَّاillābut
قَالُوا۟qālūthey said
سَاحِرٌsāḥirunA magician
أَوْawor
مَجْنُونٌmajnūnuna madman

Translation

Likewise not came (to) those before them before them any Messenger but they said A magician or a madman

Verse 53

أَتَوَاصَوْا۟atawāṣawHave they transmitted it to them
بِهِۦ ۚbihiHave they transmitted it to them
بَلْbalNay
هُمْhumthey
قَوْمٌۭqawmun(are) a people
طَاغُونَṭāghūnatransgressing

Translation

Have they transmitted it to them Have they transmitted it to them Nay they (are) a people transgressing

Verse 54

فَتَوَلَّfatawallaSo turn away
عَنْهُمْʿanhumfrom them
فَمَآfamāfor not
أَنتَantayou
بِمَلُومٍۢbimalūmin(are) to be blamed

Translation

So turn away from them for not you (are) to be blamed

Verse 55

وَذَكِّرْwadhakkirAnd remind
فَإِنَّfa-innafor indeed
ٱلذِّكْرَىٰl-dhik'rāthe reminder
تَنفَعُtanfaʿubenefits
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers

Translation

And remind for indeed the reminder benefits the believers

Verse 56

وَمَاwamāAnd not
خَلَقْتُkhalaqtuI have created
ٱلْجِنَّl-jinathe jinn
وَٱلْإِنسَwal-insaand the mankind
إِلَّاillāexcept
لِيَعْبُدُونِliyaʿbudūnithat they worship Me

Translation

And not I have created the jinn and the mankind except that they worship Me

Verse 57

مَآmāNot
أُرِيدُurīduI want
مِنْهُمmin'humfrom them
مِّنminany
رِّزْقٍۢriz'qinprovision
وَمَآwamāand not
أُرِيدُurīduI want
أَنanthat
يُطْعِمُونِyuṭ'ʿimūnithey (should) feed Me

Translation

Not I want from them any provision and not I want that they (should) feed Me

Verse 58

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
هُوَhuwaHe
ٱلرَّزَّاقُl-razāqu(is) the All-Provider
ذُوdhūPossessor
ٱلْقُوَّةِl-quwati(of) Power
ٱلْمَتِينُl-matīnuthe Strong

Translation

Indeed Allah He (is) the All-Provider Possessor (of) Power the Strong

Verse 59

فَإِنَّfa-innaSo indeed
لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those who
ظَلَمُوا۟ẓalamūdo wrong
ذَنُوبًۭاdhanūban(is) a portion
مِّثْلَmith'lalike
ذَنُوبِdhanūbi(the) portion
أَصْحَـٰبِهِمْaṣḥābihim(of) their companions
فَلَاfalāso let them not ask Me to hasten
يَسْتَعْجِلُونِyastaʿjilūniso let them not ask Me to hasten

Translation

So indeed for those who do wrong (is) a portion like (the) portion (of) their companions so let them not ask Me to hasten so let them not ask Me to hasten

Verse 60

فَوَيْلٌۭfawaylunThen woe
لِّلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
مِنminfrom
يَوْمِهِمُyawmihimutheir Day
ٱلَّذِىalladhīwhich
يُوعَدُونَyūʿadūnathey are promised

Translation

Then woe to those who disbelieve from their Day which they are promised
