Chapter 52Meccan49 Verses

Verse 1

وَٱلطُّورِwal-ṭūriBy the Mount

Translation

By the Mount

Verse 2

وَكِتَـٰبٍۢwakitābinAnd by (the) Book
مَّسْطُورٍۢmasṭūrinwritten

Translation

And by (the) Book written

Verse 3

فِىfīIn
رَقٍّۢraqqinparchment
مَّنشُورٍۢmanshūrinunrolled

Translation

In parchment unrolled

Verse 4

وَٱلْبَيْتِwal-baytiBy the House
ٱلْمَعْمُورِl-maʿmūrifrequented

Translation

By the House frequented

Verse 5

وَٱلسَّقْفِwal-saqfiBy the roof
ٱلْمَرْفُوعِl-marfūʿiraised high

Translation

By the roof raised high

Verse 6

وَٱلْبَحْرِwal-baḥriBy the sea
ٱلْمَسْجُورِl-masjūrifilled

Translation

By the sea filled

Verse 7

إِنَّinnaIndeed
عَذَابَʿadhāba(the) punishment
رَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lord
لَوَٰقِعٌۭlawāqiʿun(will) surely occur

Translation

Indeed (the) punishment (of) your Lord (will) surely occur

Verse 8

مَّاmāNot
لَهُۥlahufor it
مِنminany
دَافِعٍۢdāfiʿinpreventer

Translation

Not for it any preventer

Verse 9

يَوْمَyawma(On the) Day
تَمُورُtamūruwill shake
ٱلسَّمَآءُl-samāuthe heaven
مَوْرًۭاmawran(with violent) shake

Translation

(On the) Day will shake the heaven (with violent) shake

Verse 10

وَتَسِيرُwatasīruAnd will move away
ٱلْجِبَالُl-jibāluthe mountains
سَيْرًۭاsayran(with an awful) movement

Translation

And will move away the mountains (with an awful) movement

Verse 11

فَوَيْلٌۭfawaylunThen woe
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Day
لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers

Translation

Then woe that Day to the deniers

Verse 12

ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaWho
هُمْhum[they]
فِىfīin
خَوْضٍۢkhawḍin(vain) discourse
يَلْعَبُونَyalʿabūnaare playing

Translation

Who [they] in (vain) discourse are playing

Verse 13

يَوْمَyawma(The) Day
يُدَعُّونَyudaʿʿūnathey will be thrust
إِلَىٰilā(in)to
نَارِnāri(the) Fire
جَهَنَّمَjahannama(of) Hell
دَعًّاdaʿʿan(with) a thrust

Translation

(The) Day they will be thrust (in)to (the) Fire (of) Hell (with) a thrust

Verse 14

هَـٰذِهِhādhihiThis
ٱلنَّارُl-nāru(is) the Fire
ٱلَّتِىallatīwhich
كُنتُمkuntumyou used to
بِهَاbihā[of it]
تُكَذِّبُونَtukadhibūnadeny

Translation

This (is) the Fire which you used to [of it] deny

Verse 15

أَفَسِحْرٌafasiḥ'runThen is this magic
هَـٰذَآhādhāThen is this magic
أَمْamor
أَنتُمْantumyou
لَاlā(do) not
تُبْصِرُونَtub'ṣirūnasee

Translation

Then is this magic Then is this magic or you (do) not see

Verse 16

ٱصْلَوْهَاiṣ'lawhāBurn in it
فَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟fa-iṣ'birūthen be patient
أَوْawor
لَاlā(do) not
تَصْبِرُوا۟taṣbirūbe patient
سَوَآءٌsawāon(it is) same
عَلَيْكُمْ ۖʿalaykumfor you
إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
تُجْزَوْنَtuj'zawnayou are being recompensed
مَاmā(for) what
كُنتُمْkuntumyou used to
تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnado

Translation

Burn in it then be patient or (do) not be patient (it is) same for you Only you are being recompensed (for) what you used to do

Verse 17

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīnathe righteous
فِىfī(will be) in
جَنَّـٰتٍۢjannātinGardens
وَنَعِيمٍۢwanaʿīminand pleasure

Translation

Indeed the righteous (will be) in Gardens and pleasure

Verse 18

فَـٰكِهِينَfākihīnaEnjoying
بِمَآbimāin what
ءَاتَىٰهُمْātāhumhas given them
رَبُّهُمْrabbuhumtheir Lord
وَوَقَىٰهُمْwawaqāhumand protected them
رَبُّهُمْrabbuhumtheir Lord
عَذَابَʿadhāba(from the) punishment
ٱلْجَحِيمِl-jaḥīmi(of) Hellfire

Translation

Enjoying in what has given them their Lord and protected them their Lord (from the) punishment (of) Hellfire

Verse 19

كُلُوا۟kulūEat
وَٱشْرَبُوا۟wa-ish'rabūand drink
هَنِيٓـًٔۢاhanīan(in) satisfaction
بِمَاbimāfor what
كُنتُمْkuntumyou used to
تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnado

Translation

Eat and drink (in) satisfaction for what you used to do

Verse 20

مُتَّكِـِٔينَmuttakiīnaReclining
عَلَىٰʿalāon
سُرُرٍۢsururinthrones
مَّصْفُوفَةٍۢ ۖmaṣfūfatinlined up
وَزَوَّجْنَـٰهُمwazawwajnāhumand We will marry them
بِحُورٍbiḥūrinto fair ones
عِينٍۢʿīnin(with) large eyes

Translation

Reclining on thrones lined up and We will marry them to fair ones (with) large eyes

Verse 21

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieved
وَٱتَّبَعَتْهُمْwa-ittabaʿathumand followed them
ذُرِّيَّتُهُمdhurriyyatuhumtheir offspring
بِإِيمَـٰنٍbiīmāninin faith
أَلْحَقْنَاalḥaqnāWe will join
بِهِمْbihimwith them
ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْdhurriyyatahumtheir offspring
وَمَآwamāand not
أَلَتْنَـٰهُمalatnāhumWe will deprive them
مِّنْminof
عَمَلِهِمʿamalihimtheir deeds
مِّنmin(in) any
شَىْءٍۢ ۚshayinthing
كُلُّkulluEvery
ٱمْرِئٍۭim'ri-inperson
بِمَاbimāfor what
كَسَبَkasabahe earned
رَهِينٌۭrahīnun(is) pledged

Translation

And those who believed and followed them their offspring in faith We will join with them their offspring and not We will deprive them of their deeds (in) any thing Every person for what he earned (is) pledged

Verse 22

وَأَمْدَدْنَـٰهُمwa-amdadnāhumAnd We will provide them
بِفَـٰكِهَةٍۢbifākihatinwith fruit
وَلَحْمٍۢwalaḥminand meat
مِّمَّاmimmāfrom what
يَشْتَهُونَyashtahūnathey desire

Translation

And We will provide them with fruit and meat from what they desire

Verse 23

يَتَنَـٰزَعُونَyatanāzaʿūnaThey will pass to one another
فِيهَاfīhātherein
كَأْسًۭاkasana cup
لَّاlāno
لَغْوٌۭlaghwunill speech
فِيهَاfīhātherein
وَلَاwalāand no
تَأْثِيمٌۭtathīmunsin

Translation

They will pass to one another therein a cup no ill speech therein and no sin

Verse 24

۞ وَيَطُوفُwayaṭūfuAnd will circulate
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimamong them
غِلْمَانٌۭghil'mānunboys
لَّهُمْlahumfor them
كَأَنَّهُمْka-annahumas if they (were)
لُؤْلُؤٌۭlu'lu-onpearls
مَّكْنُونٌۭmaknūnunwell-protected

Translation

And will circulate among them boys for them as if they (were) pearls well-protected

Verse 25

وَأَقْبَلَwa-aqbalaAnd will approach
بَعْضُهُمْbaʿḍuhumsome of them
عَلَىٰʿalāto
بَعْضٍۢbaʿḍinothers
يَتَسَآءَلُونَyatasāalūnainquiring

Translation

And will approach some of them to others inquiring

Verse 26

قَالُوٓا۟qālūThey will say
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, we
كُنَّاkunnā[we] were
قَبْلُqablubefore
فِىٓfīamong
أَهْلِنَاahlināour families
مُشْفِقِينَmush'fiqīnafearful

Translation

They will say Indeed, we [we] were before among our families fearful

Verse 27

فَمَنَّfamannaBut Allah conferred favor
ٱللَّهُl-lahuBut Allah conferred favor
عَلَيْنَاʿalaynāupon us
وَوَقَىٰنَاwawaqānāand protected us
عَذَابَʿadhāba(from the) punishment
ٱلسَّمُومِl-samūmi(of) the Scorching Fire

Translation

But Allah conferred favor But Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us (from the) punishment (of) the Scorching Fire

Verse 28

إِنَّاinnāIndeed, we
كُنَّاkunnā[we] used to
مِنminbefore
قَبْلُqablubefore
نَدْعُوهُ ۖnadʿūhucall Him
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, He
هُوَhuwa[He]
ٱلْبَرُّl-baru(is) the Most Kind
ٱلرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuthe Most Merciful

Translation

Indeed, we [we] used to before before call Him Indeed, He [He] (is) the Most Kind the Most Merciful

Verse 29

فَذَكِّرْfadhakkirTherefore remind
فَمَآfamāfor not
أَنتَantayou
بِنِعْمَتِbiniʿ'mati(are) by (the) grace
رَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lord
بِكَاهِنٍۢbikāhinina soothsayer
وَلَاwalāand not
مَجْنُونٍmajnūnina madman

Translation

Therefore remind for not you (are) by (the) grace (of) your Lord a soothsayer and not a madman

Verse 30

أَمْamOr
يَقُولُونَyaqūlūna(do) they say
شَاعِرٌۭshāʿirunA poet
نَّتَرَبَّصُnatarabbaṣuwe wait
بِهِۦbihifor him
رَيْبَraybaa misfortune of time
ٱلْمَنُونِl-manūnia misfortune of time

Translation

Or (do) they say A poet we wait for him a misfortune of time a misfortune of time

Verse 31

قُلْqulSay
تَرَبَّصُوا۟tarabbaṣūWait
فَإِنِّىfa-innīfor indeed I am
مَعَكُمmaʿakumwith you
مِّنَminaamong
ٱلْمُتَرَبِّصِينَl-mutarabiṣīnathose who wait

Translation

Say Wait for indeed I am with you among those who wait

Verse 32

أَمْamOr
تَأْمُرُهُمْtamuruhumcommand them
أَحْلَـٰمُهُمaḥlāmuhumtheir minds
بِهَـٰذَآ ۚbihādhāthis
أَمْamor
هُمْhumthey
قَوْمٌۭqawmun(are) a people
طَاغُونَṭāghūnatransgressing

Translation

Or command them their minds this or they (are) a people transgressing

Verse 33

أَمْamOr
يَقُولُونَyaqūlūna(do) they say
تَقَوَّلَهُۥ ۚtaqawwalahuHe has made it up
بَلbalNay
لَّاlānot
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnathey believe

Translation

Or (do) they say He has made it up Nay not they believe

Verse 34

فَلْيَأْتُوا۟falyatūThen let them bring
بِحَدِيثٍۢbiḥadīthina statement
مِّثْلِهِۦٓmith'lihilike it
إِنinif
كَانُوا۟kānūthey are
صَـٰدِقِينَṣādiqīnatruthful

Translation

Then let them bring a statement like it if they are truthful

Verse 35

أَمْamOr
خُلِقُوا۟khuliqūthey were created
مِنْminof
غَيْرِghayrinothing
شَىْءٍshayinnothing
أَمْamor
هُمُhumu(are) they
ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَl-khāliqūnathe creators

Translation

Or they were created of nothing nothing or (are) they the creators

Verse 36

أَمْamOr
خَلَقُوا۟khalaqū(did) they create
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَ ۚwal-arḍaand the earth
بَلbalNay
لَّاlānot
يُوقِنُونَyūqinūnathey are certain

Translation

Or (did) they create the heavens and the earth Nay not they are certain

Verse 37

أَمْamOr
عِندَهُمْʿindahumwith them
خَزَآئِنُkhazāinu(are the) treasures
رَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lord
أَمْamor
هُمُhumu(are) they
ٱلْمُصَۣيْطِرُونَl-muṣayṭirūnathe controllers

Translation

Or with them (are the) treasures (of) your Lord or (are) they the controllers

Verse 38

أَمْamOr
لَهُمْlahumfor them
سُلَّمٌۭsullamun(is) a stairway
يَسْتَمِعُونَyastamiʿūnathey listen
فِيهِ ۖfīhitherewith
فَلْيَأْتِfalyatiThen let bring
مُسْتَمِعُهُمmus'tamiʿuhumtheir listener
بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۢbisul'ṭāninan authority
مُّبِينٍmubīninclear

Translation

Or for them (is) a stairway they listen therewith Then let bring their listener an authority clear

Verse 39

أَمْamOr
لَهُlahufor Him
ٱلْبَنَـٰتُl-banātu(are) daughters
وَلَكُمُwalakumuwhile for you
ٱلْبَنُونَl-banūna(are) sons

Translation

Or for Him (are) daughters while for you (are) sons

Verse 40

أَمْamOr
تَسْـَٔلُهُمْtasaluhum(do) you ask from them
أَجْرًۭاajrana payment
فَهُمfahumso they
مِّنminfrom
مَّغْرَمٍۢmaghramina debt
مُّثْقَلُونَmuth'qalūna(are) overburdened

Translation

Or (do) you ask from them a payment so they from a debt (are) overburdened

Verse 41

أَمْamOr
عِندَهُمُʿindahumuwith them
ٱلْغَيْبُl-ghaybu(is) the unseen
فَهُمْfahumso they
يَكْتُبُونَyaktubūnawrite (it) down

Translation

Or with them (is) the unseen so they write (it) down

Verse 42

أَمْamOr
يُرِيدُونَyurīdūna(do) they intend
كَيْدًۭا ۖkaydana plot
فَٱلَّذِينَfa-alladhīnaBut those who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
هُمُhumuthemselves
ٱلْمَكِيدُونَl-makīdūna(are in) the plot

Translation

Or (do) they intend a plot But those who disbelieve themselves (are in) the plot

Verse 43

أَمْamOr
لَهُمْlahumfor them
إِلَـٰهٌilāhuna god
غَيْرُghayruother than
ٱللَّهِ ۚl-lahiAllah
سُبْحَـٰنَsub'ḥānaGlory be
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(to) Allah
عَمَّاʿammāfrom what
يُشْرِكُونَyush'rikūnathey associate (with Him)

Translation

Or for them a god other than Allah Glory be (to) Allah from what they associate (with Him)

Verse 44

وَإِنwa-inAnd if
يَرَوْا۟yarawthey were to see
كِسْفًۭاkis'fana portion
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe sky
سَاقِطًۭاsāqiṭanfalling
يَقُولُوا۟yaqūlūthey will say
سَحَابٌۭsaḥābunClouds
مَّرْكُومٌۭmarkūmunheaped up

Translation

And if they were to see a portion from the sky falling they will say Clouds heaped up

Verse 45

فَذَرْهُمْfadharhumSo leave them
حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
يُلَـٰقُوا۟yulāqūthey meet
يَوْمَهُمُyawmahumutheir Day
ٱلَّذِىalladhīwhich
فِيهِfīhiin it
يُصْعَقُونَyuṣ'ʿaqūnathey will faint

Translation

So leave them until they meet their Day which in it they will faint

Verse 46

يَوْمَyawma(The) Day
لَاlānot
يُغْنِىyugh'nīwill avail
عَنْهُمْʿanhumto them
كَيْدُهُمْkayduhumtheir plotting
شَيْـًۭٔاshayan(in) anything
وَلَاwalāand not
هُمْhumthey
يُنصَرُونَyunṣarūnawill be helped

Translation

(The) Day not will avail to them their plotting (in) anything and not they will be helped

Verse 47

وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those who
ظَلَمُوا۟ẓalamūdo wrong
عَذَابًۭاʿadhāban(is) a punishment
دُونَdūnabefore
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
وَلَـٰكِنَّwalākinnabut
أَكْثَرَهُمْaktharahummost of them
لَاlā(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow

Translation

And indeed for those who do wrong (is) a punishment before that but most of them (do) not know

Verse 48

وَٱصْبِرْwa-iṣ'birSo be patient
لِحُكْمِliḥuk'mifor (the) Command
رَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lord
فَإِنَّكَfa-innakafor indeed, you
بِأَعْيُنِنَا ۖbi-aʿyuninā(are) in Our Eyes
وَسَبِّحْwasabbiḥAnd glorify
بِحَمْدِbiḥamdi(the) praise
رَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lord
حِينَḥīnawhen
تَقُومُtaqūmuyou arise

Translation

So be patient for (the) Command (of) your Lord for indeed, you (are) in Our Eyes And glorify (the) praise (of) your Lord when you arise

Verse 49

وَمِنَwaminaAnd of
ٱلَّيْلِal-laylithe night
فَسَبِّحْهُfasabbiḥ'huglorify Him
وَإِدْبَـٰرَwa-id'bāraand after
ٱلنُّجُومِl-nujūmithe stars

Translation

And of the night glorify Him and after the stars
