Chapter 57Medinan29 Verses

Verse 1

سَبَّحَsabbaḥaGlorifies
لِلَّهِlillahi[to] Allah
مَاmāwhatever
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖwal-arḍiand the earth
وَهُوَwahuwaand He
ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzu(is) the All-Mighty
ٱلْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuthe All-Wise

Translation

Glorifies [to] Allah whatever (is) in the heavens and the earth and He (is) the All-Mighty the All-Wise

Verse 2

لَهُۥlahuFor Him
مُلْكُmul'ku(is the) dominion
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖwal-arḍiand the earth
يُحْىِۦyuḥ'yīHe gives life
وَيُمِيتُ ۖwayumītuand causes death
وَهُوَwahuwaand He
عَلَىٰʿalā(is) over
كُلِّkulliall
شَىْءٍۢshayinthings
قَدِيرٌqadīrunAll-Powerful

Translation

For Him (is the) dominion (of) the heavens and the earth He gives life and causes death and He (is) over all things All-Powerful

Verse 3

هُوَhuwaHe
ٱلْأَوَّلُl-awalu(is) the First
وَٱلْـَٔاخِرُwal-ākhiruand the Last
وَٱلظَّـٰهِرُwal-ẓāhiruand the Apparent
وَٱلْبَاطِنُ ۖwal-bāṭinuand the Unapparent
وَهُوَwahuwaand He
بِكُلِّbikulli(is) of every
شَىْءٍshayinthing
عَلِيمٌʿalīmunAll-Knower

Translation

He (is) the First and the Last and the Apparent and the Unapparent and He (is) of every thing All-Knower

Verse 4

هُوَhuwaHe
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Who
خَلَقَkhalaqacreated
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earth
فِىfīin
سِتَّةِsittatisix
أَيَّامٍۢayyāminperiods
ثُمَّthummathen
ٱسْتَوَىٰis'tawāHe rose
عَلَىʿalāover
ٱلْعَرْشِ ۚl-ʿarshithe Throne
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuHe knows
مَاmāwhat
يَلِجُyalijupenetrates
فِىfīin(to)
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
وَمَاwamāand what
يَخْرُجُyakhrujucomes forth
مِنْهَاmin'hāfrom it
وَمَاwamāand what
يَنزِلُyanziludescends
مِنَminafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe heaven
وَمَاwamāand what
يَعْرُجُyaʿrujuascends
فِيهَا ۖfīhātherein
وَهُوَwahuwaand He
مَعَكُمْmaʿakum(is) with you
أَيْنَaynawherever
مَاmāwherever
كُنتُمْ ۚkuntumyou are
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
بِمَاbimāof what
تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnayou do
بَصِيرٌۭbaṣīrun(is) All-seer

Translation

He (is) the One Who created the heavens and the earth in six periods then He rose over the Throne He knows what penetrates in(to) the earth and what comes forth from it and what descends from the heaven and what ascends therein and He (is) with you wherever wherever you are And Allah of what you do (is) All-seer

Verse 5

لَّهُۥlahuFor Him
مُلْكُmul'ku(is the) dominion
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚwal-arḍiand the earth
وَإِلَىwa-ilāand to
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
تُرْجَعُtur'jaʿuwill be returned
ٱلْأُمُورُl-umūruthe matters

Translation

For Him (is the) dominion (of) the heavens and the earth and to Allah will be returned the matters

Verse 6

يُولِجُyūlijuHe merges
ٱلَّيْلَal-laylathe night
فِىfīinto
ٱلنَّهَارِl-nahārithe day
وَيُولِجُwayūlijuand He merges
ٱلنَّهَارَl-nahārathe day
فِىfīinto
ٱلَّيْلِ ۚal-laylithe night
وَهُوَwahuwaand He
عَلِيمٌۢʿalīmun(is) All-Knower
بِذَاتِbidhātiof what is in the breasts
ٱلصُّدُورِl-ṣudūriof what is in the breasts

Translation

He merges the night into the day and He merges the day into the night and He (is) All-Knower of what is in the breasts of what is in the breasts

Verse 7

ءَامِنُوا۟āminūBelieve
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
وَرَسُولِهِۦwarasūlihiand His Messenger
وَأَنفِقُوا۟wa-anfiqūand spend
مِمَّاmimmāof what
جَعَلَكُمjaʿalakumHe has made you
مُّسْتَخْلَفِينَmus'takhlafīnatrustees
فِيهِ ۖfīhitherein
فَٱلَّذِينَfa-alladhīnaAnd those
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūwho believe
مِنكُمْminkumamong you
وَأَنفَقُوا۟wa-anfaqūand spend
لَهُمْlahumfor them
أَجْرٌۭajrun(is) a reward
كَبِيرٌۭkabīrungreat

Translation

Believe in Allah and His Messenger and spend of what He has made you trustees therein And those who believe among you and spend for them (is) a reward great

Verse 8

وَمَاwamāAnd what
لَكُمْlakum(is) for you
لَاlā(that) not
تُؤْمِنُونَtu'minūnayou believe
بِٱللَّهِ ۙbil-lahiin Allah
وَٱلرَّسُولُwal-rasūluwhile the Messenger
يَدْعُوكُمْyadʿūkumcalls you
لِتُؤْمِنُوا۟litu'minūthat you believe
بِرَبِّكُمْbirabbikumin your Lord
وَقَدْwaqadand indeed
أَخَذَakhadhaHe has taken
مِيثَـٰقَكُمْmīthāqakumyour covenant
إِنinif
كُنتُمkuntumyou are
مُّؤْمِنِينَmu'minīnabelievers

Translation

And what (is) for you (that) not you believe in Allah while the Messenger calls you that you believe in your Lord and indeed He has taken your covenant if you are believers

Verse 9

هُوَhuwaHe
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Who
يُنَزِّلُyunazzilusends down
عَلَىٰʿalāupon
عَبْدِهِۦٓʿabdihiHis slave
ءَايَـٰتٍۭāyātinVerses
بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢbayyinātinclear
لِّيُخْرِجَكُمliyukh'rijakumthat He may bring you out
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِl-ẓulumātithe darkness[es]
إِلَىilāinto
ٱلنُّورِ ۚl-nūrithe light
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
بِكُمْbikumto you
لَرَءُوفٌۭlaraūfun(is the) Most Kind
رَّحِيمٌۭraḥīmun(the) Most Merciful

Translation

He (is) the One Who sends down upon His slave Verses clear that He may bring you out from the darkness[es] into the light And indeed Allah to you (is the) Most Kind (the) Most Merciful

Verse 10

وَمَاwamāAnd what
لَكُمْlakum(is) for you
أَلَّاallāthat not
تُنفِقُوا۟tunfiqūyou spend
فِىfīin
سَبِيلِsabīli(the) way
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
وَلِلَّهِwalillahiwhile for Allah
مِيرَٰثُmīrāthu(is the) heritage
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚwal-arḍiand the earth
لَاlāNot
يَسْتَوِىyastawīare equal
مِنكُمminkumamong you
مَّنْman(those) who
أَنفَقَanfaqaspent
مِنminbefore
قَبْلِqablibefore
ٱلْفَتْحِl-fatḥithe victory
وَقَـٰتَلَ ۚwaqātalaand fought
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose
أَعْظَمُaʿẓamu(are) greater
دَرَجَةًۭdarajatan(in) degree
مِّنَminathan
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
أَنفَقُوا۟anfaqūspent
مِنۢminafterwards
بَعْدُbaʿduafterwards
وَقَـٰتَلُوا۟ ۚwaqātalūand fought
وَكُلًّۭاwakullanBut to all
وَعَدَwaʿadaAllah has promised
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah has promised
ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚl-ḥus'nāthe best
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
بِمَاbimāof what
تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnayou do
خَبِيرٌۭkhabīrun(is) All-Aware

Translation

And what (is) for you that not you spend in (the) way (of) Allah while for Allah (is the) heritage (of) the heavens and the earth Not are equal among you (those) who spent before before the victory and fought Those (are) greater (in) degree than those who spent afterwards afterwards and fought But to all Allah has promised Allah has promised the best And Allah of what you do (is) All-Aware

Verse 11

مَّنmanWho (is)
ذَاdhāthe one who
ٱلَّذِىalladhīthe one who
يُقْرِضُyuq'riḍuwill loan
ٱللَّهَl-laha(to) Allah
قَرْضًاqarḍana loan
حَسَنًۭاḥasanangoodly
فَيُضَـٰعِفَهُۥfayuḍāʿifahuso He will multiply it
لَهُۥlahufor him
وَلَهُۥٓwalahuand for him
أَجْرٌۭajrun(is) a reward
كَرِيمٌۭkarīmunnoble

Translation

Who (is) the one who the one who will loan (to) Allah a loan goodly so He will multiply it for him and for him (is) a reward noble

Verse 12

يَوْمَyawma(On the) Day
تَرَىtarāyou will see
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believing men
وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِwal-mu'minātiand the believing women
يَسْعَىٰyasʿārunning
نُورُهُمnūruhumtheir light
بَيْنَbaynabefore them
أَيْدِيهِمْaydīhimbefore them
وَبِأَيْمَـٰنِهِمwabi-aymānihimand on their right
بُشْرَىٰكُمُbush'rākumuGlad tidings for you
ٱلْيَوْمَl-yawmathis Day
جَنَّـٰتٌۭjannātungardens
تَجْرِىtajrīflowing
مِنminfrom
تَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath it
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُl-anhāruthe rivers
خَـٰلِدِينَkhālidīnaabiding forever
فِيهَا ۚfīhātherein
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
هُوَhuwa[it] (is)
ٱلْفَوْزُl-fawzuthe success
ٱلْعَظِيمُl-ʿaẓīmuthe great

Translation

(On the) Day you will see the believing men and the believing women running their light before them before them and on their right Glad tidings for you this Day gardens flowing from underneath it the rivers abiding forever therein That [it] (is) the success the great

Verse 13

يَوْمَyawma(On the) Day
يَقُولُyaqūluwill say
ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقُونَl-munāfiqūnathe hypocrite men
وَٱلْمُنَـٰفِقَـٰتُwal-munāfiqātuand the hypocrite women
لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieved
ٱنظُرُونَاunẓurūnāWait for us
نَقْتَبِسْnaqtabiswe may acquire
مِنminof
نُّورِكُمْnūrikumyour light
قِيلَqīlaIt will be said
ٱرْجِعُوا۟ir'jiʿūGo back
وَرَآءَكُمْwarāakumbehind you
فَٱلْتَمِسُوا۟fal-tamisūand seek
نُورًۭاnūranlight
فَضُرِبَfaḍuribaThen will be put up
بَيْنَهُمbaynahumbetween them
بِسُورٍۢbisūrina wall
لَّهُۥlahufor it
بَابٌۢbābuna gate
بَاطِنُهُۥbāṭinuhuits interior
فِيهِfīhiin it
ٱلرَّحْمَةُl-raḥmatu(is) mercy
وَظَـٰهِرُهُۥwaẓāhiruhubut its exterior
مِنminfacing towards [it]
قِبَلِهِqibalihifacing towards [it]
ٱلْعَذَابُl-ʿadhābuthe punishment

Translation

(On the) Day will say the hypocrite men and the hypocrite women to those who believed Wait for us we may acquire of your light It will be said Go back behind you and seek light Then will be put up between them a wall for it a gate its interior in it (is) mercy but its exterior facing towards [it] facing towards [it] the punishment

Verse 14

يُنَادُونَهُمْyunādūnahumThey will call them
أَلَمْalamWere not
نَكُنnakunwe
مَّعَكُمْ ۖmaʿakumwith you
قَالُوا۟qālūThey will say
بَلَىٰbalāYes
وَلَـٰكِنَّكُمْwalākinnakumbut you
فَتَنتُمْfatantumled to temptation
أَنفُسَكُمْanfusakumyourselves
وَتَرَبَّصْتُمْwatarabbaṣtumand you awaited
وَٱرْتَبْتُمْwa-ir'tabtumand you doubted
وَغَرَّتْكُمُwagharratkumuand deceived you
ٱلْأَمَانِىُّl-amāniyuthe wishful thinking
حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
جَآءَjāacame
أَمْرُamru(the) Command
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
وَغَرَّكُمwagharrakumAnd deceived you
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiabout Allah
ٱلْغَرُورُl-gharūruthe deceiver

Translation

They will call them Were not we with you They will say Yes but you led to temptation yourselves and you awaited and you doubted and deceived you the wishful thinking until came (the) Command (of) Allah And deceived you about Allah the deceiver

Verse 15

فَٱلْيَوْمَfal-yawmaSo today
لَاlānot
يُؤْخَذُyu'khadhuwill be accepted
مِنكُمْminkumfrom you
فِدْيَةٌۭfid'yatunany ransom
وَلَاwalāand not
مِنَminafrom
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوا۟ ۚkafarūdisbelieved
مَأْوَىٰكُمُmawākumuYour abode
ٱلنَّارُ ۖl-nāru(is) the Fire
هِىَhiyait (is)
مَوْلَىٰكُمْ ۖmawlākumyour protector
وَبِئْسَwabi'saand wretched is
ٱلْمَصِيرُl-maṣīruthe destination

Translation

So today not will be accepted from you any ransom and not from those who disbelieved Your abode (is) the Fire it (is) your protector and wretched is the destination

Verse 16

۞ أَلَمْalamHas not
يَأْنِyanicome (the) time
لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those who
ءَامَنُوٓا۟āmanūbelieved
أَنanthat
تَخْشَعَtakhshaʿabecome humble
قُلُوبُهُمْqulūbuhumtheir hearts
لِذِكْرِlidhik'riat (the) remembrance (of) Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahiat (the) remembrance (of) Allah
وَمَاwamāand what
نَزَلَnazalahas come down
مِنَminaof
ٱلْحَقِّl-ḥaqithe truth
وَلَاwalāAnd not
يَكُونُوا۟yakūnūthey become
كَٱلَّذِينَka-alladhīnalike those who
أُوتُوا۟ūtūwere given
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
مِنminbefore
قَبْلُqablubefore
فَطَالَfaṭāla(and) was prolonged
عَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimufor them
ٱلْأَمَدُl-amaduthe term
فَقَسَتْfaqasatso hardened
قُلُوبُهُمْ ۖqulūbuhumtheir hearts
وَكَثِيرٌۭwakathīrunand many
مِّنْهُمْmin'humof them
فَـٰسِقُونَfāsiqūna(are) defiantly disobedient

Translation

Has not come (the) time for those who believed that become humble their hearts at (the) remembrance (of) Allah at (the) remembrance (of) Allah and what has come down of the truth And not they become like those who were given the Book before before (and) was prolonged for them the term so hardened their hearts and many of them (are) defiantly disobedient

Verse 17

ٱعْلَمُوٓا۟iʿ'lamūKnow
أَنَّannathat
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يُحْىِyuḥ'yīgives life
ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍa(to) the earth
بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
مَوْتِهَا ۚmawtihāits death
قَدْqadIndeed
بَيَّنَّاbayyannāWe have made clear
لَكُمُlakumuto you
ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِl-āyātithe Signs
لَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you may
تَعْقِلُونَtaʿqilūnaunderstand

Translation

Know that Allah gives life (to) the earth after its death Indeed We have made clear to you the Signs so that you may understand

Verse 18

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلْمُصَّدِّقِينَl-muṣadiqīnathe men who give charity
وَٱلْمُصَّدِّقَـٰتِwal-muṣadiqātiand the women who give charity
وَأَقْرَضُوا۟wa-aqraḍūand who lend
ٱللَّهَl-laha(to) Allah
قَرْضًاqarḍana loan
حَسَنًۭاḥasanangoodly
يُضَـٰعَفُyuḍāʿafuit will be multiplied
لَهُمْlahumfor them
وَلَهُمْwalahumand for them
أَجْرٌۭajrun(is) a reward
كَرِيمٌۭkarīmunnoble

Translation

Indeed the men who give charity and the women who give charity and who lend (to) Allah a loan goodly it will be multiplied for them and for them (is) a reward noble

Verse 19

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
وَرُسُلِهِۦٓwarusulihiand His Messengers
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāika[those]
هُمُhumuthey
ٱلصِّدِّيقُونَ ۖl-ṣidīqūna(are) the truthful
وَٱلشُّهَدَآءُwal-shuhadāuand the martyrs
عِندَʿinda(are) with
رَبِّهِمْrabbihimtheir Lord
لَهُمْlahumFor them
أَجْرُهُمْajruhum(is) their reward
وَنُورُهُمْ ۖwanūruhumand their light
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaBut those who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieve
وَكَذَّبُوا۟wakadhabūand deny
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآbiāyātināOur Verses
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikathose
أَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu(are the) companions
ٱلْجَحِيمِl-jaḥīmi(of) the Hellfire

Translation

And those who believe in Allah and His Messengers [those] they (are) the truthful and the martyrs (are) with their Lord For them (is) their reward and their light But those who disbelieve and deny Our Verses those (are the) companions (of) the Hellfire

Verse 20

ٱعْلَمُوٓا۟iʿ'lamūKnow
أَنَّمَاannamāthat
ٱلْحَيَوٰةُl-ḥayatuthe life
ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the world
لَعِبٌۭlaʿibun(is) play
وَلَهْوٌۭwalahwunand amusement
وَزِينَةٌۭwazīnatunand adornment
وَتَفَاخُرٌۢwatafākhurunand boasting
بَيْنَكُمْbaynakumamong you
وَتَكَاثُرٌۭwatakāthurunand competition in increase
فِىfīof
ٱلْأَمْوَٰلِl-amwālithe wealth
وَٱلْأَوْلَـٰدِ ۖwal-awlādiand the children
كَمَثَلِkamathalilike (the) example
غَيْثٍghaythin(of) a rain
أَعْجَبَaʿjabapleases
ٱلْكُفَّارَl-kufārathe tillers
نَبَاتُهُۥnabātuhuits growth
ثُمَّthummathen
يَهِيجُyahījuit dries
فَتَرَىٰهُfatarāhuand you see it
مُصْفَرًّۭاmuṣ'farranturning yellow
ثُمَّthummathen
يَكُونُyakūnubecomes
حُطَـٰمًۭا ۖḥuṭāmandebris
وَفِىwafīAnd in
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhiratithe Hereafter
عَذَابٌۭʿadhābun(is) a punishment
شَدِيدٌۭshadīdunsevere
وَمَغْفِرَةٌۭwamaghfiratunand forgiveness
مِّنَminafrom
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
وَرِضْوَٰنٌۭ ۚwariḍ'wānunand Pleasure
وَمَاwamāBut not
ٱلْحَيَوٰةُl-ḥayatu(is) the life
ٱلدُّنْيَآl-dun'yā(of) the world
إِلَّاillāexcept
مَتَـٰعُmatāʿu(the) enjoyment
ٱلْغُرُورِl-ghurūri(of) delusion

Translation

Know that the life (of) the world (is) play and amusement and adornment and boasting among you and competition in increase of the wealth and the children like (the) example (of) a rain pleases the tillers its growth then it dries and you see it turning yellow then becomes debris And in the Hereafter (is) a punishment severe and forgiveness from Allah and Pleasure But not (is) the life (of) the world except (the) enjoyment (of) delusion

Verse 21

سَابِقُوٓا۟sābiqūRace
إِلَىٰilāto
مَغْفِرَةٍۢmaghfiratin(the) forgiveness
مِّنminfrom
رَّبِّكُمْrabbikumyour Lord
وَجَنَّةٍwajannatinand a Garden
عَرْضُهَاʿarḍuhāits width
كَعَرْضِkaʿarḍi(is) like (the) width
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāi(of) the heaven
وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth
أُعِدَّتْuʿiddatprepared
لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
وَرُسُلِهِۦ ۚwarusulihiand His Messengers
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
فَضْلُfaḍlu(is the) Bounty
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
يُؤْتِيهِyu'tīhiHe gives
مَنman(to) whom
يَشَآءُ ۚyashāuHe wills
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
ذُوdhū(is) the Possessor of Bounty
ٱلْفَضْلِl-faḍli(is) the Possessor of Bounty
ٱلْعَظِيمِl-ʿaẓīmithe Great

Translation

Race to (the) forgiveness from your Lord and a Garden its width (is) like (the) width (of) the heaven and the earth prepared for those who believe in Allah and His Messengers That (is the) Bounty (of) Allah He gives (to) whom He wills And Allah (is) the Possessor of Bounty (is) the Possessor of Bounty the Great

Verse 22

مَآmāNot
أَصَابَaṣābastrikes
مِنminany
مُّصِيبَةٍۢmuṣībatindisaster
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
وَلَاwalāand not
فِىٓfīin
أَنفُسِكُمْanfusikumyourselves
إِلَّاillābut
فِىfīin
كِتَـٰبٍۢkitābina Register
مِّنminbefore
قَبْلِqablibefore
أَنanthat
نَّبْرَأَهَآ ۚnabra-ahāWe bring it into existence
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
عَلَىʿalāfor
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
يَسِيرٌۭyasīrun(is) easy

Translation

Not strikes any disaster in the earth and not in yourselves but in a Register before before that We bring it into existence Indeed that for Allah (is) easy

Verse 23

لِّكَيْلَاlikaylāSo that you may not
تَأْسَوْا۟tasawgrieve
عَلَىٰʿalāover
مَاmāwhat
فَاتَكُمْfātakumhas escaped you
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تَفْرَحُوا۟tafraḥūexult
بِمَآbimāat what
ءَاتَىٰكُمْ ۗātākumHe has given you
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
لَاlā(does) not
يُحِبُّyuḥibbulove
كُلَّkullaevery
مُخْتَالٍۢmukh'tālinself-deluded
فَخُورٍfakhūrinboaster

Translation

So that you may not grieve over what has escaped you and (do) not exult at what He has given you And Allah (does) not love every self-deluded boaster

Verse 24

ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose who
يَبْخَلُونَyabkhalūnaare stingy
وَيَأْمُرُونَwayamurūnaand enjoin
ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsa(on) the people
بِٱلْبُخْلِ ۗbil-bukh'listinginess
وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
يَتَوَلَّyatawallaturns away
فَإِنَّfa-innathen indeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
هُوَhuwaHe
ٱلْغَنِىُّl-ghaniyu(is) Free of need
ٱلْحَمِيدُl-ḥamīduthe Praiseworthy

Translation

Those who are stingy and enjoin (on) the people stinginess And whoever turns away then indeed Allah He (is) Free of need the Praiseworthy

Verse 25

لَقَدْlaqadCertainly
أَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sent
رُسُلَنَاrusulanāOur Messengers
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِbil-bayinātiwith clear proofs
وَأَنزَلْنَاwa-anzalnāand We sent down
مَعَهُمُmaʿahumuwith them
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Scripture
وَٱلْمِيزَانَwal-mīzānaand the Balance
لِيَقُومَliyaqūmathat may establish
ٱلنَّاسُl-nāsuthe people
بِٱلْقِسْطِ ۖbil-qis'ṭijustice
وَأَنزَلْنَاwa-anzalnāAnd We sent down
ٱلْحَدِيدَl-ḥadīda[the] iron
فِيهِfīhiwherein
بَأْسٌۭbasun(is) power
شَدِيدٌۭshadīdunmighty
وَمَنَـٰفِعُwamanāfiʿuand benefits
لِلنَّاسِlilnnāsifor the people
وَلِيَعْلَمَwaliyaʿlamaand so that Allah may make evident
ٱللَّهُl-lahuand so that Allah may make evident
مَنman(he) who
يَنصُرُهُۥyanṣuruhuhelps Him
وَرُسُلَهُۥwarusulahuand His Messengers
بِٱلْغَيْبِ ۚbil-ghaybiunseen
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
قَوِىٌّqawiyyun(is) All-Strong
عَزِيزٌۭʿazīzunAll-Mighty

Translation

Certainly We sent Our Messengers with clear proofs and We sent down with them the Scripture and the Balance that may establish the people justice And We sent down [the] iron wherein (is) power mighty and benefits for the people and so that Allah may make evident and so that Allah may make evident (he) who helps Him and His Messengers unseen Indeed Allah (is) All-Strong All-Mighty

Verse 26

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainly
أَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sent
نُوحًۭاnūḥanNuh
وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَwa-ib'rāhīmaand Ibrahim
وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāand We placed
فِىfīin
ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَاdhurriyyatihimātheir offspring
ٱلنُّبُوَّةَl-nubuwataProphethood
وَٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ۖwal-kitābaand the Scripture
فَمِنْهُمfamin'humand among them
مُّهْتَدٍۢ ۖmuh'tadin(is) a guided one
وَكَثِيرٌۭwakathīrunbut most
مِّنْهُمْmin'humof them
فَـٰسِقُونَfāsiqūna(are) defiantly disobediently

Translation

And certainly We sent Nuh and Ibrahim and We placed in their offspring Prophethood and the Scripture and among them (is) a guided one but most of them (are) defiantly disobediently

Verse 27

ثُمَّthummaThen
قَفَّيْنَاqaffaynāWe sent
عَلَىٰٓʿalāon
ءَاثَـٰرِهِمāthārihimtheir footsteps
بِرُسُلِنَاbirusulināOur Messengers
وَقَفَّيْنَاwaqaffaynāand We followed
بِعِيسَىbiʿīsāwith Isa
ٱبْنِib'nison
مَرْيَمَmaryama(of) Maryam
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُwaātaynāhuand We gave him
ٱلْإِنجِيلَl-injīlathe Injeel
وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāAnd We placed
فِىfīin
قُلُوبِqulūbi(the) hearts
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those who
ٱتَّبَعُوهُittabaʿūhufollowed him
رَأْفَةًۭrafatancompassion
وَرَحْمَةًۭwaraḥmatanand mercy
وَرَهْبَانِيَّةًwarahbāniyyatanBut monasticism
ٱبْتَدَعُوهَاib'tadaʿūhāthey innovated
مَاmānot
كَتَبْنَـٰهَاkatabnāhāWe prescribed it
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimfor them
إِلَّاillāonly
ٱبْتِغَآءَib'tighāaseeking
رِضْوَٰنِriḍ'wāni(the) pleasure
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
فَمَاfamābut not
رَعَوْهَاraʿawhāthey observed it
حَقَّḥaqqa(with) right
رِعَايَتِهَا ۖriʿāyatihāobservance
فَـَٔاتَيْنَاfaātaynāSo We gave
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieved
مِنْهُمْmin'humamong them
أَجْرَهُمْ ۖajrahumtheir reward
وَكَثِيرٌۭwakathīrunbut most
مِّنْهُمْmin'humof them
فَـٰسِقُونَfāsiqūna(are) defiantly disobediently

Translation

Then We sent on their footsteps Our Messengers and We followed with Isa son (of) Maryam and We gave him the Injeel And We placed in (the) hearts (of) those who followed him compassion and mercy But monasticism they innovated not We prescribed it for them only seeking (the) pleasure (of) Allah but not they observed it (with) right observance So We gave those who believed among them their reward but most of them (are) defiantly disobediently

Verse 28

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you who believe
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaO you who believe
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūO you who believe
ٱتَّقُوا۟ittaqūFear
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
وَءَامِنُوا۟waāminūand believe
بِرَسُولِهِۦbirasūlihiin His Messenger
يُؤْتِكُمْyu'tikumHe will give you
كِفْلَيْنِkif'laynidouble portion
مِنminof
رَّحْمَتِهِۦraḥmatihiHis Mercy
وَيَجْعَلwayajʿaland He will make
لَّكُمْlakumfor you
نُورًۭاnūrana light
تَمْشُونَtamshūnayou will walk
بِهِۦbihiwith it
وَيَغْفِرْwayaghfirand He will forgive
لَكُمْ ۚlakumyou
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
غَفُورٌۭghafūrun(is) Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭraḥīmunMost Merciful

Translation

O you who believe O you who believe O you who believe Fear Allah and believe in His Messenger He will give you double portion of His Mercy and He will make for you a light you will walk with it and He will forgive you And Allah (is) Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful

Verse 29

لِّئَلَّاli-allāSo that
يَعْلَمَyaʿlamamay know
أَهْلُahlu(the) People
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
أَلَّاallāthat not
يَقْدِرُونَyaqdirūnathey have power
عَلَىٰʿalāover
شَىْءٍۢshayinanything
مِّنminfrom
فَضْلِfaḍli(the) Bounty
ٱللَّهِ ۙl-lahi(of) Allah
وَأَنَّwa-annaand that
ٱلْفَضْلَl-faḍlathe Bounty
بِيَدِbiyadi(is) in Allah's Hand
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(is) in Allah's Hand
يُؤْتِيهِyu'tīhiHe gives it
مَنmanwhom
يَشَآءُ ۚyashāuHe wills
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
ذُوdhū(is) the Possessor of Bounty
ٱلْفَضْلِl-faḍli(is) the Possessor of Bounty
ٱلْعَظِيمِl-ʿaẓīmithe Great

Translation

So that may know (the) People (of) the Book that not they have power over anything from (the) Bounty (of) Allah and that the Bounty (is) in Allah's Hand (is) in Allah's Hand He gives it whom He wills And Allah (is) the Possessor of Bounty (is) the Possessor of Bounty the Great
