Chapter 65Medinan12 Verses

Verse 1

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO
ٱلنَّبِىُّl-nabiyuProphet
إِذَاidhāWhen
طَلَّقْتُمُṭallaqtumuyou divorce
ٱلنِّسَآءَl-nisāa[the] women
فَطَلِّقُوهُنَّfaṭalliqūhunnathen divorce them
لِعِدَّتِهِنَّliʿiddatihinnafor their waiting period
وَأَحْصُوا۟wa-aḥṣūand keep count
ٱلْعِدَّةَ ۖl-ʿidata(of) the waiting period
وَٱتَّقُوا۟wa-ittaqūand fear
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
رَبَّكُمْ ۖrabbakumyour Lord
لَاlā(Do) not
تُخْرِجُوهُنَّtukh'rijūhunnaexpel them
مِنۢminfrom
بُيُوتِهِنَّbuyūtihinnatheir houses
وَلَاwalāand not
يَخْرُجْنَyakhruj'nathey should leave
إِلَّآillāexcept
أَنanthat
يَأْتِينَyatīnathey commit
بِفَـٰحِشَةٍۢbifāḥishatinan immorality
مُّبَيِّنَةٍۢ ۚmubayyinatinclear
وَتِلْكَwatil'kaAnd these
حُدُودُḥudūdu(are the) limits
ٱللَّهِ ۚl-lahi(of) Allah
وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
يَتَعَدَّyataʿaddatransgresses
حُدُودَḥudūda(the) limits
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
فَقَدْfaqadthen certainly
ظَلَمَẓalamahe has wronged
نَفْسَهُۥ ۚnafsahuhimself
لَاlāNot
تَدْرِىtadrīyou know
لَعَلَّlaʿallaPerhaps
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يُحْدِثُyuḥ'dithuwill bring about
بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
أَمْرًۭاamrana matter

Translation

O Prophet When you divorce [the] women then divorce them for their waiting period and keep count (of) the waiting period and fear Allah your Lord (Do) not expel them from their houses and not they should leave except that they commit an immorality clear And these (are the) limits (of) Allah And whoever transgresses (the) limits (of) Allah then certainly he has wronged himself Not you know Perhaps Allah will bring about after that a matter

Verse 2

فَإِذَاfa-idhāThen when
بَلَغْنَbalaghnathey have reached
أَجَلَهُنَّajalahunnatheir term
فَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّfa-amsikūhunnathen retain them
بِمَعْرُوفٍbimaʿrūfinwith kindness
أَوْawor
فَارِقُوهُنَّfāriqūhunnapart with them
بِمَعْرُوفٍۢbimaʿrūfinwith kindness
وَأَشْهِدُوا۟wa-ashhidūAnd take witness
ذَوَىْdhawaytwo men
عَدْلٍۢʿadlinjust
مِّنكُمْminkumamong you
وَأَقِيمُوا۟wa-aqīmūand establish
ٱلشَّهَـٰدَةَl-shahādatathe testimony
لِلَّهِ ۚlillahifor Allah
ذَٰلِكُمْdhālikumThat
يُوعَظُyūʿaẓuis instructed
بِهِۦbihiwith it
مَنmanwhoever
كَانَkāna[is]
يُؤْمِنُyu'minubelieves
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
وَٱلْيَوْمِwal-yawmiand the Day
ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ ۚl-ākhirithe Last
وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
يَتَّقِyattaqifears
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يَجْعَلyajʿalHe will make
لَّهُۥlahufor him
مَخْرَجًۭاmakhrajana way out

Translation

Then when they have reached their term then retain them with kindness or part with them with kindness And take witness two men just among you and establish the testimony for Allah That is instructed with it whoever [is] believes in Allah and the Day the Last And whoever fears Allah He will make for him a way out

Verse 3

وَيَرْزُقْهُwayarzuq'huAnd He will provide for him
مِنْminfrom
حَيْثُḥaythuwhere
لَاlānot
يَحْتَسِبُ ۚyaḥtasibuhe thinks
وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
يَتَوَكَّلْyatawakkalputs his trust
عَلَىʿalāupon
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
فَهُوَfahuwathen He
حَسْبُهُۥٓ ۚḥasbuhu(is) sufficient for him
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
بَـٰلِغُbālighu(will) accomplish
أَمْرِهِۦ ۚamrihiHis purpose
قَدْqadIndeed
جَعَلَjaʿalahas set
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
لِكُلِّlikullifor every
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
قَدْرًۭاqadrana measure

Translation

And He will provide for him from where not he thinks And whoever puts his trust upon Allah then He (is) sufficient for him Indeed Allah (will) accomplish His purpose Indeed has set Allah for every thing a measure

Verse 4

وَٱلَّـٰٓـِٔىwa-allāīAnd those who
يَئِسْنَya-is'nahave despaired
مِنَminaof
ٱلْمَحِيضِl-maḥīḍithe menstruation
مِنminamong
نِّسَآئِكُمْnisāikumyour women
إِنِiniif
ٱرْتَبْتُمْir'tabtumyou doubt
فَعِدَّتُهُنَّfaʿiddatuhunnathen their waiting period
ثَلَـٰثَةُthalāthatu(is) three
أَشْهُرٍۢashhurinmonths
وَٱلَّـٰٓـِٔىwa-allāīand the ones who
لَمْlamnot
يَحِضْنَ ۚyaḥiḍ'na[they] menstruated
وَأُو۟لَـٰتُwa-ulātuAnd those who (are)
ٱلْأَحْمَالِl-aḥmālipregnant
أَجَلُهُنَّajaluhunnatheir term
أَنanuntil
يَضَعْنَyaḍaʿnathey deliver
حَمْلَهُنَّ ۚḥamlahunnatheir burdens
وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
يَتَّقِyattaqifears
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يَجْعَلyajʿalHe will make
لَّهُۥlahufor him
مِنْminof
أَمْرِهِۦamrihihis affair
يُسْرًۭاyus'ranease

Translation

And those who have despaired of the menstruation among your women if you doubt then their waiting period (is) three months and the ones who not [they] menstruated And those who (are) pregnant their term until they deliver their burdens And whoever fears Allah He will make for him of his affair ease

Verse 5

ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
أَمْرُamru(is the) Command
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
أَنزَلَهُۥٓanzalahuwhich He has sent down
إِلَيْكُمْ ۚilaykumto you
وَمَنwamanand whoever
يَتَّقِyattaqifears
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يُكَفِّرْyukaffirHe will remove
عَنْهُʿanhufrom him
سَيِّـَٔاتِهِۦsayyiātihihis evil deeds
وَيُعْظِمْwayuʿ'ẓimand make great
لَهُۥٓlahufor him
أَجْرًاajran(his) reward

Translation

That (is the) Command (of) Allah which He has sent down to you and whoever fears Allah He will remove from him his evil deeds and make great for him (his) reward

Verse 6

أَسْكِنُوهُنَّaskinūhunnaLodge them
مِنْminfrom
حَيْثُḥaythuwhere
سَكَنتُمsakantumyou dwell
مِّنmin(out) of
وُجْدِكُمْwuj'dikumyour means
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تُضَآرُّوهُنَّtuḍārrūhunnaharm them
لِتُضَيِّقُوا۟lituḍayyiqūto distress
عَلَيْهِنَّ ۚʿalayhinna[on] them
وَإِنwa-inAnd if
كُنَّkunnathey are
أُو۟لَـٰتِulātithose (who are)
حَمْلٍۢḥamlinpregnant
فَأَنفِقُوا۟fa-anfiqūthen spend
عَلَيْهِنَّʿalayhinnaon them
حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
يَضَعْنَyaḍaʿnathey deliver
حَمْلَهُنَّ ۚḥamlahunnatheir burden
فَإِنْfa-inThen if
أَرْضَعْنَarḍaʿnathey suckle
لَكُمْlakumfor you
فَـَٔاتُوهُنَّfaātūhunnathen give them
أُجُورَهُنَّ ۖujūrahunnatheir payment
وَأْتَمِرُوا۟watamirūand consult
بَيْنَكُمbaynakumamong yourselves
بِمَعْرُوفٍۢ ۖbimaʿrūfinwith kindness
وَإِنwa-inbut if
تَعَاسَرْتُمْtaʿāsartumyou disagree
فَسَتُرْضِعُfasatur'ḍiʿuthen may suckle
لَهُۥٓlahufor him
أُخْرَىٰukh'rāanother (women)

Translation

Lodge them from where you dwell (out) of your means and (do) not harm them to distress [on] them And if they are those (who are) pregnant then spend on them until they deliver their burden Then if they suckle for you then give them their payment and consult among yourselves with kindness but if you disagree then may suckle for him another (women)

Verse 7

لِيُنفِقْliyunfiqLet spend
ذُوdhūowner
سَعَةٍۢsaʿatin(of) ample means
مِّنminfrom
سَعَتِهِۦ ۖsaʿatihihis ample means
وَمَنwamanand (he) who
قُدِرَqudirais restricted
عَلَيْهِʿalayhion him
رِزْقُهُۥriz'quhuhis provision
فَلْيُنفِقْfalyunfiqlet him spend
مِمَّآmimmāfrom what
ءَاتَىٰهُātāhuhe has been given
ٱللَّهُ ۚl-lahu(by) Allah
لَاlāDoes not
يُكَلِّفُyukallifuburden
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
نَفْسًاnafsanany soul
إِلَّاillāexcept
مَآmā(with) what
ءَاتَىٰهَا ۚātāhāHe has given it
سَيَجْعَلُsayajʿaluWill bring about
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
عُسْرٍۢʿus'rinhardship
يُسْرًۭاyus'ranease

Translation

Let spend owner (of) ample means from his ample means and (he) who is restricted on him his provision let him spend from what he has been given (by) Allah Does not burden Allah any soul except (with) what He has given it Will bring about Allah after hardship ease

Verse 8

وَكَأَيِّنwaka-ayyinAnd how many
مِّنminof
قَرْيَةٍqaryatina town
عَتَتْʿatatrebelled
عَنْʿanagainst
أَمْرِamri(the) Command
رَبِّهَاrabbihā(of) its Lord
وَرُسُلِهِۦwarusulihiand His Messengers
فَحَاسَبْنَـٰهَاfaḥāsabnāhāso We took it to account
حِسَابًۭاḥisābanan account
شَدِيدًۭاshadīdansevere
وَعَذَّبْنَـٰهَاwaʿadhabnāhāand We punished it
عَذَابًۭاʿadhābana punishment
نُّكْرًۭاnuk'ranterrible

Translation

And how many of a town rebelled against (the) Command (of) its Lord and His Messengers so We took it to account an account severe and We punished it a punishment terrible

Verse 9

فَذَاقَتْfadhāqatSo it tasted
وَبَالَwabāla(the bad) consequence
أَمْرِهَاamrihā(of) its affair
وَكَانَwakānaand was
عَـٰقِبَةُʿāqibatu(the) end
أَمْرِهَاamrihā(of) its affair
خُسْرًاkhus'ranloss

Translation

So it tasted (the bad) consequence (of) its affair and was (the) end (of) its affair loss

Verse 10

أَعَدَّaʿaddaHas prepared
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
لَهُمْlahumfor them
عَذَابًۭاʿadhābana punishment
شَدِيدًۭا ۖshadīdansevere
فَٱتَّقُوا۟fa-ittaqūSo fear
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
يَـٰٓأُو۟لِىyāulīO men
ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِl-albābi(of) understanding
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟ ۚāmanūhave believed
قَدْqadIndeed
أَنزَلَanzalaHas sent down
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
إِلَيْكُمْilaykumto you
ذِكْرًۭاdhik'rana Message

Translation

Has prepared Allah for them a punishment severe So fear Allah O men (of) understanding those who have believed Indeed Has sent down Allah to you a Message

Verse 11

رَّسُولًۭاrasūlanA Messenger
يَتْلُوا۟yatlūreciting
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumto you
ءَايَـٰتِāyāti(the) Verses
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
مُبَيِّنَـٰتٍۢmubayyinātinclear
لِّيُخْرِجَliyukh'rijathat he may bring out
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
مِنَminafrom
ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِl-ẓulumātithe darkness[es]
إِلَىilātowards
ٱلنُّورِ ۚl-nūrithe light
وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
يُؤْمِنۢyu'minbelieves
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allah
وَيَعْمَلْwayaʿmaland does
صَـٰلِحًۭاṣāliḥanrighteous deeds
يُدْخِلْهُyud'khil'huHe will admit him
جَنَّـٰتٍۢjannātin(into) Gardens
تَجْرِىtajrīflow
مِنminfrom
تَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath it
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُl-anhāruthe rivers
خَـٰلِدِينَkhālidīnaabiding
فِيهَآfīhātherein
أَبَدًۭا ۖabadanforever
قَدْqadIndeed
أَحْسَنَaḥsanaHas been (granted) good
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allah
لَهُۥlahufor him
رِزْقًاriz'qanprovision

Translation

A Messenger reciting to you (the) Verses (of) Allah clear that he may bring out those who believe and do righteous deeds from the darkness[es] towards the light And whoever believes in Allah and does righteous deeds He will admit him (into) Gardens flow from underneath it the rivers abiding therein forever Indeed Has been (granted) good (by) Allah for him provision

Verse 12

ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllah
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) He Who
خَلَقَkhalaqacreated
سَبْعَsabʿaseven
سَمَـٰوَٰتٍۢsamāwātinheavens
وَمِنَwaminaand of
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
مِثْلَهُنَّmith'lahunna(the) like of them
يَتَنَزَّلُyatanazzaluDescends
ٱلْأَمْرُl-amruthe command
بَيْنَهُنَّbaynahunnabetween them
لِتَعْلَمُوٓا۟litaʿlamūthat you may know
أَنَّannathat
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
عَلَىٰʿalā(is) on
كُلِّkullievery
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
قَدِيرٌۭqadīrunAll-Powerful
وَأَنَّwa-annaAnd that
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
قَدْqadindeed
أَحَاطَaḥāṭaencompasses
بِكُلِّbikulliall
شَىْءٍshayinthings
عِلْمًۢاʿil'man(in) knowledge

Translation

Allah (is) He Who created seven heavens and of the earth (the) like of them Descends the command between them that you may know that Allah (is) on every thing All-Powerful And that Allah indeed encompasses all things (in) knowledge
