Chapter 67Meccan30 Verses

Verse 1

تَبَـٰرَكَtabārakaBlessed is
ٱلَّذِىalladhīHe
بِيَدِهِbiyadihiin Whose Hand
ٱلْمُلْكُl-mul'ku(is) the Dominion
وَهُوَwahuwaand He
عَلَىٰʿalā(is) over
كُلِّkullievery
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
قَدِيرٌqadīrunAll-Powerful

Translation

Blessed is He in Whose Hand (is) the Dominion and He (is) over every thing All-Powerful

Verse 2

ٱلَّذِىalladhīThe One Who
خَلَقَkhalaqacreated
ٱلْمَوْتَl-mawtadeath
وَٱلْحَيَوٰةَwal-ḥayataand life
لِيَبْلُوَكُمْliyabluwakumthat He may test you
أَيُّكُمْayyukumwhich of you
أَحْسَنُaḥsanu(is) best
عَمَلًۭا ۚʿamalan(in) deed
وَهُوَwahuwaAnd He
ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzu(is) the All-Mighty
ٱلْغَفُورُl-ghafūruthe Oft-Forgiving

Translation

The One Who created death and life that He may test you which of you (is) best (in) deed And He (is) the All-Mighty the Oft-Forgiving

Verse 3

ٱلَّذِىalladhīThe One Who
خَلَقَkhalaqacreated
سَبْعَsabʿaseven
سَمَـٰوَٰتٍۢsamāwātinheavens
طِبَاقًۭا ۖṭibāqanone above another
مَّاmāNot
تَرَىٰtarāyou see
فِىfīin
خَلْقِkhalqi(the) creation
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāni(of) the Most Gracious
مِنminany
تَفَـٰوُتٍۢ ۖtafāwutinfault
فَٱرْجِعِfa-ir'jiʿiSo return
ٱلْبَصَرَl-baṣarathe vision
هَلْhalcan
تَرَىٰtarāyou see
مِنminany
فُطُورٍۢfuṭūrinflaw

Translation

The One Who created seven heavens one above another Not you see in (the) creation (of) the Most Gracious any fault So return the vision can you see any flaw

Verse 4

ثُمَّthummaThen
ٱرْجِعِir'jiʿireturn
ٱلْبَصَرَl-baṣarathe vision
كَرَّتَيْنِkarrataynitwice (again)
يَنقَلِبْyanqalibWill return
إِلَيْكَilaykato you
ٱلْبَصَرُl-baṣaruthe vision
خَاسِئًۭاkhāsi-anhumbled
وَهُوَwahuwawhile it
حَسِيرٌۭḥasīrun(is) fatigued

Translation

Then return the vision twice (again) Will return to you the vision humbled while it (is) fatigued

Verse 5

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainly
زَيَّنَّاzayyannāWe have beautified
ٱلسَّمَآءَl-samāathe heaven
ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yānearest
بِمَصَـٰبِيحَbimaṣābīḥawith lamps
وَجَعَلْنَـٰهَاwajaʿalnāhāand We have made them
رُجُومًۭاrujūman(as) missiles
لِّلشَّيَـٰطِينِ ۖlilshayāṭīnifor the devils
وَأَعْتَدْنَاwa-aʿtadnāand We have prepared
لَهُمْlahumfor them
عَذَابَʿadhābapunishment
ٱلسَّعِيرِl-saʿīri(of) the Blaze

Translation

And certainly We have beautified the heaven nearest with lamps and We have made them (as) missiles for the devils and We have prepared for them punishment (of) the Blaze

Verse 6

وَلِلَّذِينَwalilladhīnaAnd for those who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
بِرَبِّهِمْbirabbihimin their Lord
عَذَابُʿadhābu(is the) punishment
جَهَنَّمَ ۖjahannama(of) Hell
وَبِئْسَwabi'saand wretched is
ٱلْمَصِيرُl-maṣīruthe destination

Translation

And for those who disbelieved in their Lord (is the) punishment (of) Hell and wretched is the destination

Verse 7

إِذَآidhāWhen
أُلْقُوا۟ul'qūthey are thrown
فِيهَاfīhātherein
سَمِعُوا۟samiʿūthey will hear
لَهَاlahāfrom it
شَهِيقًۭاshahīqanan inhaling
وَهِىَwahiyawhile it
تَفُورُtafūruboils up

Translation

When they are thrown therein they will hear from it an inhaling while it boils up

Verse 8

تَكَادُtakāduIt almost
تَمَيَّزُtamayyazubursts
مِنَminafrom
ٱلْغَيْظِ ۖl-ghayẓirage
كُلَّمَآkullamāEvery time
أُلْقِىَul'qiyais thrown
فِيهَاfīhātherein
فَوْجٌۭfawjuna group
سَأَلَهُمْsa-alahum(will) ask them
خَزَنَتُهَآkhazanatuhāits keepers
أَلَمْalamDid not
يَأْتِكُمْyatikumcome to you
نَذِيرٌۭnadhīruna warner

Translation

It almost bursts from rage Every time is thrown therein a group (will) ask them its keepers Did not come to you a warner

Verse 9

قَالُوا۟qālūThey will say
بَلَىٰbalāYes
قَدْqadindeed
جَآءَنَاjāanācame to us
نَذِيرٌۭnadhīruna warner
فَكَذَّبْنَاfakadhabnābut we denied
وَقُلْنَاwaqul'nāand we said
مَاmāNot
نَزَّلَnazzalahas sent down
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
مِنminany
شَىْءٍshayinthing
إِنْinNot
أَنتُمْantumyou (are)
إِلَّاillābut
فِىfīin
ضَلَـٰلٍۢḍalālinerror
كَبِيرٍۢkabīringreat

Translation

They will say Yes indeed came to us a warner but we denied and we said Not has sent down Allah any thing Not you (are) but in error great

Verse 10

وَقَالُوا۟waqālūAnd they will say
لَوْlawIf
كُنَّاkunnāwe had
نَسْمَعُnasmaʿulistened
أَوْawor
نَعْقِلُnaʿqilureasoned
مَاmānot
كُنَّاkunnāwe (would) have been
فِىٓfīamong
أَصْحَـٰبِaṣḥābi(the) companions
ٱلسَّعِيرِl-saʿīri(of) the Blaze

Translation

And they will say If we had listened or reasoned not we (would) have been among (the) companions (of) the Blaze

Verse 11

فَٱعْتَرَفُوا۟fa-iʿ'tarafūThen they (will) confess
بِذَنۢبِهِمْbidhanbihimtheir sins
فَسُحْقًۭاfasuḥ'qanso away with
لِّأَصْحَـٰبِli-aṣḥābi(the) companions
ٱلسَّعِيرِl-saʿīri(of) the Blaze

Translation

Then they (will) confess their sins so away with (the) companions (of) the Blaze

Verse 12

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
يَخْشَوْنَyakhshawnafear
رَبَّهُمrabbahumtheir Lord
بِٱلْغَيْبِbil-ghaybiunseen
لَهُمlahumfor them
مَّغْفِرَةٌۭmaghfiratun(is) forgiveness
وَأَجْرٌۭwa-ajrunand a reward
كَبِيرٌۭkabīrungreat

Translation

Indeed those who fear their Lord unseen for them (is) forgiveness and a reward great

Verse 13

وَأَسِرُّوا۟wa-asirrūAnd conceal
قَوْلَكُمْqawlakumyour speech
أَوِawior
ٱجْهَرُوا۟ij'harūproclaim
بِهِۦٓ ۖbihiit
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, He
عَلِيمٌۢʿalīmun(is the) All-Knower
بِذَاتِbidhātiof what (is in)
ٱلصُّدُورِl-ṣudūrithe breasts

Translation

And conceal your speech or proclaim it Indeed, He (is the) All-Knower of what (is in) the breasts

Verse 14

أَلَاalāDoes not
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknow
مَنْman(the One) Who
خَلَقَkhalaqacreated
وَهُوَwahuwaAnd He
ٱللَّطِيفُl-laṭīfu(is) the Subtle
ٱلْخَبِيرُl-khabīruthe All-Aware

Translation

Does not know (the One) Who created And He (is) the Subtle the All-Aware

Verse 15

هُوَhuwaHe
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Who
جَعَلَjaʿalamade
لَكُمُlakumufor you
ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earth
ذَلُولًۭاdhalūlansubservient
فَٱمْشُوا۟fa-im'shūso walk
فِىfīin
مَنَاكِبِهَاmanākibihā(the) paths thereof
وَكُلُوا۟wakulūand eat
مِنminof
رِّزْقِهِۦ ۖriz'qihiHis provision
وَإِلَيْهِwa-ilayhiand to Him
ٱلنُّشُورُl-nushūru(is) the Resurrection

Translation

He (is) the One Who made for you the earth subservient so walk in (the) paths thereof and eat of His provision and to Him (is) the Resurrection

Verse 16

ءَأَمِنتُمa-amintumDo you feel secure
مَّنman(from Him) Who
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe heaven
أَنannot
يَخْسِفَyakhsifaHe will cause to swallow
بِكُمُbikumuyou
ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earth
فَإِذَاfa-idhāwhen
هِىَhiyait
تَمُورُtamūrusways

Translation

Do you feel secure (from Him) Who (is) in the heaven not He will cause to swallow you the earth when it sways

Verse 17

أَمْamOr
أَمِنتُمamintumdo you feel secure
مَّنman(from Him) Who
فِىfī(is) in
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe heaven
أَنanthat
يُرْسِلَyur'silaHe will send
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumagainst you
حَاصِبًۭا ۖḥāṣibana storm of stones
فَسَتَعْلَمُونَfasataʿlamūnaThen you would know
كَيْفَkayfahow
نَذِيرِnadhīri(was) My warning

Translation

Or do you feel secure (from Him) Who (is) in the heaven that He will send against you a storm of stones Then you would know how (was) My warning

Verse 18

وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd indeed
كَذَّبَkadhabadenied
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose
مِنminfrom
قَبْلِهِمْqablihimbefore them
فَكَيْفَfakayfaand how
كَانَkānawas
نَكِيرِnakīriMy rejection

Translation

And indeed denied those from before them and how was My rejection

Verse 19

أَوَلَمْawalamDo not
يَرَوْا۟yarawthey see
إِلَىilā[to]
ٱلطَّيْرِl-ṭayrithe birds
فَوْقَهُمْfawqahumabove them
صَـٰٓفَّـٰتٍۢṣāffātinspreading (their wings)
وَيَقْبِضْنَ ۚwayaqbiḍ'naand folding
مَاmāNot
يُمْسِكُهُنَّyum'sikuhunnaholds them
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ ۚl-raḥmānuthe Most Gracious
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, He
بِكُلِّbikulli(is) of every
شَىْءٍۭshayinthing
بَصِيرٌbaṣīrunAll-Seer

Translation

Do not they see [to] the birds above them spreading (their wings) and folding Not holds them except the Most Gracious Indeed, He (is) of every thing All-Seer

Verse 20

أَمَّنْammanWho is
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
ٱلَّذِىalladhīthe one
هُوَhuwahe
جُندٌۭjundun(is) an army
لَّكُمْlakumfor you
يَنصُرُكُمyanṣurukumto help you
مِّنminfrom
دُونِdūnibesides
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۚl-raḥmānithe Most Gracious
إِنِiniNot
ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَl-kāfirūna(are) the disbelievers
إِلَّاillābut
فِىfīin
غُرُورٍghurūrindelusion

Translation

Who is this the one he (is) an army for you to help you from besides the Most Gracious Not (are) the disbelievers but in delusion

Verse 21

أَمَّنْammanWho is
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
ٱلَّذِىalladhīthe one
يَرْزُقُكُمْyarzuqukumto provide you
إِنْinif
أَمْسَكَamsakaHe withheld
رِزْقَهُۥ ۚriz'qahuHis provision
بَلbalNay
لَّجُّوا۟lajjūthey persist
فِىfīin
عُتُوٍّۢʿutuwwinpride
وَنُفُورٍwanufūrinand aversion

Translation

Who is this the one to provide you if He withheld His provision Nay they persist in pride and aversion

Verse 22

أَفَمَنafamanThen is he who
يَمْشِىyamshīwalks
مُكِبًّاmukibbanfallen
عَلَىٰʿalāon
وَجْهِهِۦٓwajhihihis face
أَهْدَىٰٓahdābetter guided
أَمَّنammanor (he) who
يَمْشِىyamshīwalks
سَوِيًّاsawiyyanupright
عَلَىٰʿalāon
صِرَٰطٍۢṣirāṭin(the) Path
مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢmus'taqīminStraight

Translation

Then is he who walks fallen on his face better guided or (he) who walks upright on (the) Path Straight

Verse 23

قُلْqulSay
هُوَhuwaHe
ٱلَّذِىٓalladhī(is) the One Who
أَنشَأَكُمْansha-akumproduced you
وَجَعَلَwajaʿalaand made
لَكُمُlakumufor you
ٱلسَّمْعَl-samʿathe hearing
وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَwal-abṣāraand the vision
وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ ۖwal-afidataand the feelings
قَلِيلًۭاqalīlanLittle
مَّاmā(is) what
تَشْكُرُونَtashkurūnayou give thanks

Translation

Say He (is) the One Who produced you and made for you the hearing and the vision and the feelings Little (is) what you give thanks

Verse 24

قُلْqulSay
هُوَhuwaHe
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Who
ذَرَأَكُمْdhara-akummultiplied you
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
وَإِلَيْهِwa-ilayhiand to Him
تُحْشَرُونَtuḥ'sharūnayou will be gathered

Translation

Say He (is) the One Who multiplied you in the earth and to Him you will be gathered

Verse 25

وَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaAnd they say
مَتَىٰmatāWhen
هَـٰذَاhādhā(is) this
ٱلْوَعْدُl-waʿdupromise
إِنinif
كُنتُمْkuntumyou are
صَـٰدِقِينَṣādiqīnatruthful

Translation

And they say When (is) this promise if you are truthful

Verse 26

قُلْqulSay
إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
ٱلْعِلْمُl-ʿil'muthe knowledge
عِندَʿinda(is) with
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
وَإِنَّمَآwa-innamāand only
أَنَا۠anāI am
نَذِيرٌۭnadhīruna warner
مُّبِينٌۭmubīnunclear

Translation

Say Only the knowledge (is) with Allah and only I am a warner clear

Verse 27

فَلَمَّاfalammāBut when
رَأَوْهُra-awhuthey (will) see it
زُلْفَةًۭzul'fatanapproaching
سِيٓـَٔتْsīat(will be) distressed
وُجُوهُwujūhu(the) faces
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
وَقِيلَwaqīlaand it will be said
هَـٰذَاhādhāThis
ٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) that which
كُنتُمkuntumyou used to
بِهِۦbihifor it
تَدَّعُونَtaddaʿūnacall

Translation

But when they (will) see it approaching (will be) distressed (the) faces (of) those who disbelieved and it will be said This (is) that which you used to for it call

Verse 28

قُلْqulSay
أَرَءَيْتُمْara-aytumHave you seen
إِنْinif
أَهْلَكَنِىَahlakaniyadestroys me
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
وَمَنwamanand whoever
مَّعِىَmaʿiya(is) with me
أَوْawor
رَحِمَنَاraḥimanāhas mercy upon us
فَمَنfamanthen who
يُجِيرُyujīru(can) protect
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelievers
مِنْminfrom
عَذَابٍʿadhābina punishment
أَلِيمٍۢalīminpainful

Translation

Say Have you seen if destroys me Allah and whoever (is) with me or has mercy upon us then who (can) protect the disbelievers from a punishment painful

Verse 29

قُلْqulSay
هُوَhuwaHe
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُl-raḥmānu(is) the Most Gracious
ءَامَنَّاāmannāwe believe
بِهِۦbihiin Him
وَعَلَيْهِwaʿalayhiand upon Him
تَوَكَّلْنَا ۖtawakkalnāwe put (our) trust
فَسَتَعْلَمُونَfasataʿlamūnaSo you will know
مَنْmanwho
هُوَhuwa(is) it
فِىfī(that is) in
ضَلَـٰلٍۢḍalālinerror
مُّبِينٍۢmubīninclear

Translation

Say He (is) the Most Gracious we believe in Him and upon Him we put (our) trust So you will know who (is) it (that is) in error clear

Verse 30

قُلْqulSay
أَرَءَيْتُمْara-aytumHave you seen
إِنْinif
أَصْبَحَaṣbaḥabecomes
مَآؤُكُمْmāukumyour water
غَوْرًۭاghawransunken
فَمَنfamanthen who
يَأْتِيكُمyatīkumcould bring you
بِمَآءٍۢbimāinwater
مَّعِينٍۭmaʿīninflowing

Translation

Say Have you seen if becomes your water sunken then who could bring you water flowing
