Chapter 72Meccan28 Verses

Verse 1

قُلْqulSay
أُوحِىَūḥiyaIt has been revealed
إِلَىَّilayyato me
أَنَّهُannahuthat
ٱسْتَمَعَis'tamaʿalistened
نَفَرٌۭnafaruna group
مِّنَminaof
ٱلْجِنِّl-jinithe jinn
فَقَالُوٓا۟faqālūand they said
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, we
سَمِعْنَاsamiʿ'nāheard
قُرْءَانًاqur'ānana Quran
عَجَبًۭاʿajabanamazing

Translation

Say It has been revealed to me that listened a group of the jinn and they said Indeed, we heard a Quran amazing

Verse 2

يَهْدِىٓyahdīIt guides
إِلَىilāto
ٱلرُّشْدِl-rush'dithe right way
فَـَٔامَنَّاfaāmannāso we believe
بِهِۦ ۖbihiin it
وَلَنwalanand never
نُّشْرِكَnush'rikawe will associate
بِرَبِّنَآbirabbināwith our Lord
أَحَدًۭاaḥadananyone

Translation

It guides to the right way so we believe in it and never we will associate with our Lord anyone

Verse 3

وَأَنَّهُۥwa-annahuAnd that He
تَعَـٰلَىٰtaʿālāExalted is
جَدُّjaddu(the) Majesty
رَبِّنَاrabbinā(of) our Lord
مَاmānot
ٱتَّخَذَittakhadhaHe has taken
صَـٰحِبَةًۭṣāḥibatana wife
وَلَاwalāand not
وَلَدًۭاwaladana son

Translation

And that He Exalted is (the) Majesty (of) our Lord not He has taken a wife and not a son

Verse 4

وَأَنَّهُۥwa-annahuAnd that he
كَانَkānaused to
يَقُولُyaqūluspeak
سَفِيهُنَاsafīhunāthe foolish among us
عَلَىʿalāagainst
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
شَطَطًۭاshaṭaṭanan excessive transgression

Translation

And that he used to speak the foolish among us against Allah an excessive transgression

Verse 5

وَأَنَّاwa-annāAnd that we
ظَنَنَّآẓanannāthought
أَنanthat
لَّنlannever
تَقُولَtaqūlawill say
ٱلْإِنسُl-insuthe men
وَٱلْجِنُّwal-jinuand the jinn
عَلَىʿalāagainst
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
كَذِبًۭاkadhibanany lie

Translation

And that we thought that never will say the men and the jinn against Allah any lie

Verse 6

وَأَنَّهُۥwa-annahuAnd that
كَانَkāna(there) were
رِجَالٌۭrijālunmen
مِّنَminaamong
ٱلْإِنسِl-insimankind
يَعُوذُونَyaʿūdhūnawho sought refuge
بِرِجَالٍۢbirijālinin (the) men
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلْجِنِّl-jinithe jinn
فَزَادُوهُمْfazādūhumso they increased them
رَهَقًۭاrahaqan(in) burden

Translation

And that (there) were men among mankind who sought refuge in (the) men from the jinn so they increased them (in) burden

Verse 7

وَأَنَّهُمْwa-annahumAnd that they
ظَنُّوا۟ẓannūthought
كَمَاkamāas
ظَنَنتُمْẓanantumyou thought
أَنanthat
لَّنlannever
يَبْعَثَyabʿathawill raise
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
أَحَدًۭاaḥadananyone

Translation

And that they thought as you thought that never will raise Allah anyone

Verse 8

وَأَنَّاwa-annāAnd that we
لَمَسْنَاlamasnāsought to touch
ٱلسَّمَآءَl-samāathe heaven
فَوَجَدْنَـٰهَاfawajadnāhābut we found it
مُلِئَتْmuli-atfilled (with)
حَرَسًۭاḥarasanguards
شَدِيدًۭاshadīdansevere
وَشُهُبًۭاwashuhubanand flaming fires

Translation

And that we sought to touch the heaven but we found it filled (with) guards severe and flaming fires

Verse 9

وَأَنَّاwa-annāAnd that we
كُنَّاkunnāused to
نَقْعُدُnaqʿudusit
مِنْهَاmin'hāthere in
مَقَـٰعِدَmaqāʿidapositions
لِلسَّمْعِ ۖlilssamʿifor hearing
فَمَنfamanbut (he) who
يَسْتَمِعِyastamiʿilistens
ٱلْـَٔانَl-ānanow
يَجِدْyajidwill find
لَهُۥlahufor him
شِهَابًۭاshihābana flaming fire
رَّصَدًۭاraṣadanwaiting

Translation

And that we used to sit there in positions for hearing but (he) who listens now will find for him a flaming fire waiting

Verse 10

وَأَنَّاwa-annāAnd that we
لَاlānot
نَدْرِىٓnadrīwe know
أَشَرٌّasharrunwhether evil
أُرِيدَurīdais intended
بِمَنbimanfor (those) who
فِىfī(are) in
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
أَمْamor
أَرَادَarādaintends
بِهِمْbihimfor them
رَبُّهُمْrabbuhumtheir Lord
رَشَدًۭاrashadana right path

Translation

And that we not we know whether evil is intended for (those) who (are) in the earth or intends for them their Lord a right path

Verse 11

وَأَنَّاwa-annāAnd that [we]
مِنَّاminnāamong us
ٱلصَّـٰلِحُونَl-ṣāliḥūna(are) the righteous
وَمِنَّاwaminnāand among us
دُونَdūna(are) other than
ذَٰلِكَ ۖdhālikathat
كُنَّاkunnāWe
طَرَآئِقَṭarāiqa(are on) ways
قِدَدًۭاqidadandifferent

Translation

And that [we] among us (are) the righteous and among us (are) other than that We (are on) ways different

Verse 12

وَأَنَّاwa-annāAnd that we
ظَنَنَّآẓanannā[we] have become certain
أَنanthat
لَّنlannever
نُّعْجِزَnuʿ'jizawe will cause failure
ٱللَّهَl-laha(to) Allah
فِىfīin
ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth
وَلَنwalanand never
نُّعْجِزَهُۥnuʿ'jizahuwe can escape Him
هَرَبًۭاharaban(by) flight

Translation

And that we [we] have become certain that never we will cause failure (to) Allah in the earth and never we can escape Him (by) flight

Verse 13

وَأَنَّاwa-annāAnd that [we]
لَمَّاlammāwhen
سَمِعْنَاsamiʿ'nāwe heard
ٱلْهُدَىٰٓl-hudāthe Guidance
ءَامَنَّاāmannāwe believed
بِهِۦ ۖbihiin it
فَمَنfamanAnd whoever
يُؤْمِنۢyu'minbelieves
بِرَبِّهِۦbirabbihiin his Lord
فَلَاfalāthen not
يَخَافُyakhāfuhe will fear
بَخْسًۭاbakhsanany loss
وَلَاwalāand not
رَهَقًۭاrahaqanany burden

Translation

And that [we] when we heard the Guidance we believed in it And whoever believes in his Lord then not he will fear any loss and not any burden

Verse 14

وَأَنَّاwa-annāAnd that we
مِنَّاminnāamong us
ٱلْمُسْلِمُونَl-mus'limūna(are) Muslims
وَمِنَّاwaminnāand among us
ٱلْقَـٰسِطُونَ ۖl-qāsiṭūna(are) unjust
فَمَنْfamanAnd whoever
أَسْلَمَaslamasubmits
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikathen those
تَحَرَّوْا۟taḥarrawhave sought
رَشَدًۭاrashadan(the) right path

Translation

And that we among us (are) Muslims and among us (are) unjust And whoever submits then those have sought (the) right path

Verse 15

وَأَمَّاwa-ammāAnd as for
ٱلْقَـٰسِطُونَl-qāsiṭūnathe unjust
فَكَانُوا۟fakānūthey will be
لِجَهَنَّمَlijahannamafor Hell
حَطَبًۭاḥaṭabanfirewood

Translation

And as for the unjust they will be for Hell firewood

Verse 16

وَأَلَّوِwa-allawiAnd that if
ٱسْتَقَـٰمُوا۟is'taqāmūthey had remained
عَلَىʿalāon
ٱلطَّرِيقَةِl-ṭarīqatithe Way
لَأَسْقَيْنَـٰهُمla-asqaynāhumsurely We (would) have given them to drink
مَّآءًmāanwater
غَدَقًۭاghadaqan(in) abundance

Translation

And that if they had remained on the Way surely We (would) have given them to drink water (in) abundance

Verse 17

لِّنَفْتِنَهُمْlinaftinahumThat We might test them
فِيهِ ۚfīhitherein
وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
يُعْرِضْyuʿ'riḍturns away
عَنʿanfrom
ذِكْرِdhik'rithe Remembrance
رَبِّهِۦrabbihi(of) his Lord
يَسْلُكْهُyasluk'huHe will make him enter
عَذَابًۭاʿadhābana punishment
صَعَدًۭاṣaʿadansevere

Translation

That We might test them therein And whoever turns away from the Remembrance (of) his Lord He will make him enter a punishment severe

Verse 18

وَأَنَّwa-annaAnd that
ٱلْمَسَـٰجِدَl-masājidathe masjids
لِلَّهِlillahi(are) for Allah
فَلَاfalāso (do) not
تَدْعُوا۟tadʿūcall
مَعَmaʿawith
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
أَحَدًۭاaḥadananyone

Translation

And that the masjids (are) for Allah so (do) not call with Allah anyone

Verse 19

وَأَنَّهُۥwa-annahuAnd that
لَمَّاlammāwhen
قَامَqāmastood up
عَبْدُʿabdu(the) slave
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
يَدْعُوهُyadʿūhucalling (upon) Him
كَادُوا۟kādūthey almost
يَكُونُونَyakūnūnabecame
عَلَيْهِʿalayhiaround him
لِبَدًۭاlibadana compacted mass

Translation

And that when stood up (the) slave (of) Allah calling (upon) Him they almost became around him a compacted mass

Verse 20

قُلْqulSay
إِنَّمَآinnamāOnly
أَدْعُوا۟adʿūI call upon
رَبِّىrabbīmy Lord
وَلَآwalāand not
أُشْرِكُush'rikuI associate
بِهِۦٓbihiwith Him
أَحَدًۭاaḥadananyone

Translation

Say Only I call upon my Lord and not I associate with Him anyone

Verse 21

قُلْqulSay
إِنِّىinnīIndeed, I
لَآlā(do) not
أَمْلِكُamlikupossess
لَكُمْlakumfor you
ضَرًّۭاḍarranany harm
وَلَاwalāand not
رَشَدًۭاrashadanright path

Translation

Say Indeed, I (do) not possess for you any harm and not right path

Verse 22

قُلْqulSay
إِنِّىinnīIndeed I
لَنlannever
يُجِيرَنِىyujīranīcan protect me
مِنَminafrom
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
أَحَدٌۭaḥadunanyone
وَلَنْwalanand never
أَجِدَajidacan I find
مِنminfrom
دُونِهِۦdūnihibesides Him
مُلْتَحَدًاmul'taḥadanany refuge

Translation

Say Indeed I never can protect me from Allah anyone and never can I find from besides Him any refuge

Verse 23

إِلَّاillāBut
بَلَـٰغًۭاbalāghan(the) notification
مِّنَminafrom
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
وَرِسَـٰلَـٰتِهِۦ ۚwarisālātihiand His Messages
وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
يَعْصِyaʿṣidisobeys
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
وَرَسُولَهُۥwarasūlahuand His Messenger
فَإِنَّfa-innathen indeed
لَهُۥlahufor him
نَارَnāra(is the) Fire
جَهَنَّمَjahannama(of) Hell
خَـٰلِدِينَkhālidīna(they will) abide
فِيهَآfīhātherein
أَبَدًاabadanforever

Translation

But (the) notification from Allah and His Messages And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger then indeed for him (is the) Fire (of) Hell (they will) abide therein forever

Verse 24

حَتَّىٰٓḥattāUntil
إِذَاidhāwhen
رَأَوْا۟ra-awthey see
مَاmāwhat
يُوعَدُونَyūʿadūnathey are promised
فَسَيَعْلَمُونَfasayaʿlamūnathen they will know
مَنْmanwho
أَضْعَفُaḍʿafu(is) weaker
نَاصِرًۭاnāṣiran(in) helpers
وَأَقَلُّwa-aqalluand fewer
عَدَدًۭاʿadadan(in) number

Translation

Until when they see what they are promised then they will know who (is) weaker (in) helpers and fewer (in) number

Verse 25

قُلْqulSay
إِنْinNot
أَدْرِىٓadrīI know
أَقَرِيبٌۭaqarībunwhether is near
مَّاmāwhat
تُوعَدُونَtūʿadūnayou are promised
أَمْamor (whether)
يَجْعَلُyajʿaluwill appoint
لَهُۥlahufor it
رَبِّىٓrabbīmy Lord
أَمَدًاamadana (distant) term

Translation

Say Not I know whether is near what you are promised or (whether) will appoint for it my Lord a (distant) term

Verse 26

عَـٰلِمُʿālimu(The) All-Knower
ٱلْغَيْبِl-ghaybi(of) the unseen
فَلَاfalāso not
يُظْهِرُyuẓ'hiruHe reveals
عَلَىٰʿalāfrom
غَيْبِهِۦٓghaybihiHis unseen
أَحَدًاaḥadan(to) anyone

Translation

(The) All-Knower (of) the unseen so not He reveals from His unseen (to) anyone

Verse 27

إِلَّاillāExcept
مَنِmaniwhom
ٱرْتَضَىٰir'taḍāHe has approved
مِنminof
رَّسُولٍۢrasūlina Messenger
فَإِنَّهُۥfa-innahuand indeed, He
يَسْلُكُyaslukumakes to march
مِنۢminfrom
بَيْنِbaynibefore
يَدَيْهِyadayhihim
وَمِنْwaminand from
خَلْفِهِۦkhalfihibehind him
رَصَدًۭاraṣadana guard

Translation

Except whom He has approved of a Messenger and indeed, He makes to march from before him and from behind him a guard

Verse 28

لِّيَعْلَمَliyaʿlamaThat He may make evident
أَنanthat
قَدْqadindeed
أَبْلَغُوا۟ablaghūthey have conveyed
رِسَـٰلَـٰتِrisālāti(the) Messages
رَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) their Lord
وَأَحَاطَwa-aḥāṭaand He has encompassed
بِمَاbimāwhat
لَدَيْهِمْladayhim(is) with them
وَأَحْصَىٰwa-aḥṣāand He takes account
كُلَّkulla(of) all
شَىْءٍshayinthings
عَدَدًۢاʿadadan(in) number

Translation

That He may make evident that indeed they have conveyed (the) Messages (of) their Lord and He has encompassed what (is) with them and He takes account (of) all things (in) number
