Chapter 76Medinan31 Verses

Verse 1

هَلْhalHas
أَتَىٰatā(there) come
عَلَىʿalāupon
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنِl-insāniman
حِينٌۭḥīnuna period
مِّنَminaof
ٱلدَّهْرِl-dahritime
لَمْlamnot
يَكُنyakunhe was
شَيْـًۭٔاshayana thing
مَّذْكُورًاmadhkūranmentioned

Translation

Has (there) come upon man a period of time not he was a thing mentioned

Verse 2

إِنَّاinnāIndeed, We
خَلَقْنَاkhalaqnā[We] created
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَl-insānaman
مِنminfrom
نُّطْفَةٍnuṭ'fatina semen-drop
أَمْشَاجٍۢamshājina mixture
نَّبْتَلِيهِnabtalīhi(that) We test him
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُfajaʿalnāhuso We made (for) him
سَمِيعًۢاsamīʿanhearing
بَصِيرًاbaṣīranand sight

Translation

Indeed, We [We] created man from a semen-drop a mixture (that) We test him so We made (for) him hearing and sight

Verse 3

إِنَّاinnāIndeed, We
هَدَيْنَـٰهُhadaynāhuguided him
ٱلسَّبِيلَl-sabīla(to) the way
إِمَّاimmāwhether
شَاكِرًۭاshākiran(he) be grateful
وَإِمَّاwa-immāand whether
كَفُورًاkafūran(he) be ungrateful

Translation

Indeed, We guided him (to) the way whether (he) be grateful and whether (he) be ungrateful

Verse 4

إِنَّآinnāIndeed, We
أَعْتَدْنَاaʿtadnā[We] have prepared
لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَlil'kāfirīnafor the disbelievers
سَلَـٰسِلَا۟salāsilāchains
وَأَغْلَـٰلًۭاwa-aghlālanand shackles
وَسَعِيرًاwasaʿīranand a Blazing Fire

Translation

Indeed, We [We] have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a Blazing Fire

Verse 5

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلْأَبْرَارَl-abrārathe righteous
يَشْرَبُونَyashrabūnawill drink
مِنminfrom
كَأْسٍۢkasina cup
كَانَkānais
مِزَاجُهَاmizājuhāits mixture
كَافُورًاkāfūran(of) Kafur

Translation

Indeed the righteous will drink from a cup is its mixture (of) Kafur

Verse 6

عَيْنًۭاʿaynanA spring
يَشْرَبُyashrabuwill drink
بِهَاbihāfrom it
عِبَادُʿibādu(the) slaves
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
يُفَجِّرُونَهَاyufajjirūnahācausing it to gush forth
تَفْجِيرًۭاtafjīranabundantly

Translation

A spring will drink from it (the) slaves (of) Allah causing it to gush forth abundantly

Verse 7

يُوفُونَyūfūnaThey fulfill
بِٱلنَّذْرِbil-nadhrithe vows
وَيَخَافُونَwayakhāfūnaand fear
يَوْمًۭاyawmana Day
كَانَkāna(which) is
شَرُّهُۥsharruhuits evil
مُسْتَطِيرًۭاmus'taṭīranwidespread

Translation

They fulfill the vows and fear a Day (which) is its evil widespread

Verse 8

وَيُطْعِمُونَwayuṭ'ʿimūnaAnd they feed
ٱلطَّعَامَl-ṭaʿāmathe food
عَلَىٰʿalāin spite of
حُبِّهِۦḥubbihilove (for) it
مِسْكِينًۭاmis'kīnan(to the) needy
وَيَتِيمًۭاwayatīmanand (the) orphan
وَأَسِيرًاwa-asīranand (the) captive

Translation

And they feed the food in spite of love (for) it (to the) needy and (the) orphan and (the) captive

Verse 9

إِنَّمَاinnamāOnly
نُطْعِمُكُمْnuṭ'ʿimukumwe feed you
لِوَجْهِliwajhifor (the) Countenance
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
لَاlāNot
نُرِيدُnurīduwe desire
مِنكُمْminkumfrom you
جَزَآءًۭjazāanany reward
وَلَاwalāand not
شُكُورًاshukūranthanks

Translation

Only we feed you for (the) Countenance (of) Allah Not we desire from you any reward and not thanks

Verse 10

إِنَّاinnāIndeed, we
نَخَافُnakhāfufear
مِنminfrom
رَّبِّنَاrabbināour Lord
يَوْمًاyawmana Day
عَبُوسًۭاʿabūsanharsh
قَمْطَرِيرًۭاqamṭarīranand distressful

Translation

Indeed, we fear from our Lord a Day harsh and distressful

Verse 11

فَوَقَىٰهُمُfawaqāhumuBut will protect them
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
شَرَّsharra(from the) evil
ذَٰلِكَdhālika(of) that
ٱلْيَوْمِl-yawmiDay
وَلَقَّىٰهُمْwalaqqāhumand will cause them to meet
نَضْرَةًۭnaḍratanradiance
وَسُرُورًۭاwasurūranand happiness

Translation

But will protect them Allah (from the) evil (of) that Day and will cause them to meet radiance and happiness

Verse 12

وَجَزَىٰهُمwajazāhumAnd will reward them
بِمَاbimābecause
صَبَرُوا۟ṣabarūthey were patient
جَنَّةًۭjannatan(with) a Garden
وَحَرِيرًۭاwaḥarīranand silk

Translation

And will reward them because they were patient (with) a Garden and silk

Verse 13

مُّتَّكِـِٔينَmuttakiīnaReclining
فِيهَاfīhātherein
عَلَىʿalāon
ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ ۖl-arāikicouches
لَاlāNot
يَرَوْنَyarawnathey will see
فِيهَاfīhātherein
شَمْسًۭاshamsansun
وَلَاwalāand not
زَمْهَرِيرًۭاzamharīranfreezing cold

Translation

Reclining therein on couches Not they will see therein sun and not freezing cold

Verse 14

وَدَانِيَةًwadāniyatanAnd near
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimabove them
ظِلَـٰلُهَاẓilāluhā(are) its shades
وَذُلِّلَتْwadhullilatand will hang low
قُطُوفُهَاquṭūfuhāits cluster of fruits
تَذْلِيلًۭاtadhlīlandangling low

Translation

And near above them (are) its shades and will hang low its cluster of fruits dangling low

Verse 15

وَيُطَافُwayuṭāfuAnd will be circulated
عَلَيْهِمʿalayhimamong them
بِـَٔانِيَةٍۢbiāniyatinvessels
مِّنminof
فِضَّةٍۢfiḍḍatinsilver
وَأَكْوَابٍۢwa-akwābinand cups
كَانَتْkānat(that) are
قَوَارِيرَا۠qawārīrā(of) crystal

Translation

And will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups (that) are (of) crystal

Verse 16

قَوَارِيرَا۟qawārīrāCrystal-clear
مِنminof
فِضَّةٍۢfiḍḍatinsilver
قَدَّرُوهَاqaddarūhāThey will determine its
تَقْدِيرًۭاtaqdīranmeasure

Translation

Crystal-clear of silver They will determine its measure

Verse 17

وَيُسْقَوْنَwayus'qawnaAnd they will be given to drink
فِيهَاfīhātherein
كَأْسًۭاkasana cup
كَانَkānais
مِزَاجُهَاmizājuhāits mixture
زَنجَبِيلًاzanjabīlan(of) Zanjabil

Translation

And they will be given to drink therein a cup is its mixture (of) Zanjabil

Verse 18

عَيْنًۭاʿaynanA spring
فِيهَاfīhātherein
تُسَمَّىٰtusammānamed
سَلْسَبِيلًۭاsalsabīlanSalsabil

Translation

A spring therein named Salsabil

Verse 19

۞ وَيَطُوفُwayaṭūfuAnd will circulate
عَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimamong them
وِلْدَٰنٌۭwil'dānunyoung boys
مُّخَلَّدُونَmukhalladūnamade eternal
إِذَاidhāWhen
رَأَيْتَهُمْra-aytahumyou see them
حَسِبْتَهُمْḥasib'tahumyou would think them
لُؤْلُؤًۭاlu'lu-an(to be) pearls
مَّنثُورًۭاmanthūranscattered

Translation

And will circulate among them young boys made eternal When you see them you would think them (to be) pearls scattered

Verse 20

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
رَأَيْتَra-aytayou look
ثَمَّthammathen
رَأَيْتَra-aytayou will see
نَعِيمًۭاnaʿīmanblessings
وَمُلْكًۭاwamul'kanand a kingdom
كَبِيرًاkabīrangreat

Translation

And when you look then you will see blessings and a kingdom great

Verse 21

عَـٰلِيَهُمْʿāliyahumUpon them
ثِيَابُthiyābu(will be) garments
سُندُسٍsundusin(of) fine silk
خُضْرٌۭkhuḍ'rungreen
وَإِسْتَبْرَقٌۭ ۖwa-is'tabraqunand heavy brocade
وَحُلُّوٓا۟waḥullūAnd they will be adorned
أَسَاوِرَasāwira(with) bracelets
مِنminof
فِضَّةٍۢfiḍḍatinsilver
وَسَقَىٰهُمْwasaqāhumand will give them to drink
رَبُّهُمْrabbuhumtheir Lord
شَرَابًۭاsharābana drink
طَهُورًاṭahūranpure

Translation

Upon them (will be) garments (of) fine silk green and heavy brocade And they will be adorned (with) bracelets of silver and will give them to drink their Lord a drink pure

Verse 22

إِنَّinnaIndeed
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
كَانَkānais
لَكُمْlakumfor you
جَزَآءًۭjazāana reward
وَكَانَwakānaand has been
سَعْيُكُمsaʿyukumyour effort
مَّشْكُورًاmashkūranappreciated

Translation

Indeed this is for you a reward and has been your effort appreciated

Verse 23

إِنَّاinnāIndeed, We
نَحْنُnaḥnu[We]
نَزَّلْنَاnazzalnā[We] revealed
عَلَيْكَʿalaykato you
ٱلْقُرْءَانَl-qur'ānathe Quran
تَنزِيلًۭاtanzīlanprogressively

Translation

Indeed, We [We] [We] revealed to you the Quran progressively

Verse 24

فَٱصْبِرْfa-iṣ'birSo be patient
لِحُكْمِliḥuk'mifor (the) Command
رَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lord
وَلَاwalāand (do) not
تُطِعْtuṭiʿobey
مِنْهُمْmin'humfrom them
ءَاثِمًاāthimanany sinner
أَوْawor
كَفُورًۭاkafūrandisbeliever

Translation

So be patient for (the) Command (of) your Lord and (do) not obey from them any sinner or disbeliever

Verse 25

وَٱذْكُرِwa-udh'kuriAnd remember
ٱسْمَis'ma(the) name
رَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lord
بُكْرَةًۭbuk'ratanmorning
وَأَصِيلًۭاwa-aṣīlanand evening

Translation

And remember (the) name (of) your Lord morning and evening

Verse 26

وَمِنَwaminaAnd of
ٱلَّيْلِal-laylithe night
فَٱسْجُدْfa-us'judprostrate
لَهُۥlahuto Him
وَسَبِّحْهُwasabbiḥ'huand glorify Him
لَيْلًۭاlaylana night
طَوِيلًاṭawīlanlong

Translation

And of the night prostrate to Him and glorify Him a night long

Verse 27

إِنَّinnaIndeed
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāithese
يُحِبُّونَyuḥibbūnalove
ٱلْعَاجِلَةَl-ʿājilatathe immediate
وَيَذَرُونَwayadharūnaand leave
وَرَآءَهُمْwarāahumbehind them
يَوْمًۭاyawmana Day
ثَقِيلًۭاthaqīlangrave

Translation

Indeed these love the immediate and leave behind them a Day grave

Verse 28

نَّحْنُnaḥnuWe
خَلَقْنَـٰهُمْkhalaqnāhumcreated them
وَشَدَدْنَآwashadadnāand We strengthened
أَسْرَهُمْ ۖasrahumtheir forms
وَإِذَاwa-idhāand when
شِئْنَاshi'nāWe will
بَدَّلْنَآbaddalnāWe can change
أَمْثَـٰلَهُمْamthālahumtheir likeness[es]
تَبْدِيلًاtabdīlan(with) a change

Translation

We created them and We strengthened their forms and when We will We can change their likeness[es] (with) a change

Verse 29

إِنَّinnaIndeed
هَـٰذِهِۦhādhihithis
تَذْكِرَةٌۭ ۖtadhkiratun(is) a reminder
فَمَنfamanso whoever
شَآءَshāawills
ٱتَّخَذَittakhadhalet him take
إِلَىٰilāto
رَبِّهِۦrabbihihis Lord
سَبِيلًۭاsabīlana way

Translation

Indeed this (is) a reminder so whoever wills let him take to his Lord a way

Verse 30

وَمَاwamāAnd not
تَشَآءُونَtashāūnayou will
إِلَّآillāexcept
أَنanthat
يَشَآءَyashāawills
ٱللَّهُ ۚl-lahuAllah
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
كَانَkānais
عَلِيمًاʿalīmanAll-Knower
حَكِيمًۭاḥakīmanAll-Wise

Translation

And not you will except that wills Allah Indeed Allah is All-Knower All-Wise

Verse 31

يُدْخِلُyud'khiluHe admits
مَنmanwhom
يَشَآءُyashāuHe wills
فِىfīinto
رَحْمَتِهِۦ ۚraḥmatihiHis mercy
وَٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَwal-ẓālimīnabut (for) the wrongdoers
أَعَدَّaʿaddaHe has prepared
لَهُمْlahumfor them
عَذَابًاʿadhābana punishment
أَلِيمًۢاalīmanpainful

Translation

He admits whom He wills into His mercy but (for) the wrongdoers He has prepared for them a punishment painful
