The Emissaries

Chapter 77Meccan50 Verses

Verse 1

وَٱلْمُرْسَلَـٰتِwal-mur'salātiBy the ones sent forth
عُرْفًۭاʿur'fanone after another

Translation

By the ones sent forth one after another

Verse 2

فَٱلْعَـٰصِفَـٰتِfal-ʿāṣifātiAnd the winds that blow
عَصْفًۭاʿaṣfanviolently

Translation

And the winds that blow violently

Verse 3

وَٱلنَّـٰشِرَٰتِwal-nāshirātiAnd the ones that scatter
نَشْرًۭاnashranfar and wide

Translation

And the ones that scatter far and wide

Verse 4

فَٱلْفَـٰرِقَـٰتِfal-fāriqātiAnd those who separate
فَرْقًۭاfarqan(by the) Criterion

Translation

And those who separate (by the) Criterion

Verse 5

فَٱلْمُلْقِيَـٰتِfal-mul'qiyātiAnd those who bring down
ذِكْرًاdhik'ran(the) Reminder

Translation

And those who bring down (the) Reminder

Verse 6

عُذْرًاʿudh'ran(As) justification
أَوْawor
نُذْرًاnudh'ranwarning

Translation

(As) justification or warning

Verse 7

إِنَّمَاinnamāIndeed, what
تُوعَدُونَtūʿadūnayou are promised
لَوَٰقِعٌۭlawāqiʿunwill surely occur

Translation

Indeed, what you are promised will surely occur

Verse 8

فَإِذَاfa-idhāSo when
ٱلنُّجُومُl-nujūmuthe stars
طُمِسَتْṭumisatare obliterated

Translation

So when the stars are obliterated

Verse 9

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
ٱلسَّمَآءُl-samāuthe heaven
فُرِجَتْfurijatis cleft asunder

Translation

And when the heaven is cleft asunder

Verse 10

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
ٱلْجِبَالُl-jibāluthe mountains
نُسِفَتْnusifatare blown away

Translation

And when the mountains are blown away

Verse 11

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
ٱلرُّسُلُl-rusuluthe Messengers
أُقِّتَتْuqqitatare gathered to their appointed time

Translation

And when the Messengers are gathered to their appointed time

Verse 12

لِأَىِّli-ayyiFor what
يَوْمٍyawminDay
أُجِّلَتْujjilatare (these) postponed

Translation

For what Day are (these) postponed

Verse 13

لِيَوْمِliyawmiFor (the) Day
ٱلْفَصْلِl-faṣli(of) Judgment

Translation

For (the) Day (of) Judgment

Verse 14

وَمَآwamāAnd what
أَدْرَىٰكَadrākawill make you know
مَاmāwhat
يَوْمُyawmu(is the) Day
ٱلْفَصْلِl-faṣli(of) the Judgment

Translation

And what will make you know what (is the) Day (of) the Judgment

Verse 15

وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoe
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Day
لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers

Translation

Woe that Day to the deniers

Verse 16

أَلَمْalamDid not
نُهْلِكِnuh'likiWe destroy
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīnathe former (people)

Translation

Did not We destroy the former (people)

Verse 17

ثُمَّthummaThen
نُتْبِعُهُمُnut'biʿuhumuWe follow them up
ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَl-ākhirīna(with) the later ones

Translation

Then We follow them up (with) the later ones

Verse 18

كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
نَفْعَلُnafʿaluWe deal
بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَbil-muj'rimīnawith the criminals

Translation

Thus We deal with the criminals

Verse 19

وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoe
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Day
لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers

Translation

Woe that Day to the deniers

Verse 20

أَلَمْalamDid not
نَخْلُقكُّمnakhluqkkumWe create you
مِّنminfrom
مَّآءٍۢmāina water
مَّهِينٍۢmahīnindespicable

Translation

Did not We create you from a water despicable

Verse 21

فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُfajaʿalnāhuThen We placed it
فِىfīin
قَرَارٍۢqarārinan abode
مَّكِينٍmakīninsafe

Translation

Then We placed it in an abode safe

Verse 22

إِلَىٰilāFor
قَدَرٍۢqadarina period
مَّعْلُومٍۢmaʿlūminknown

Translation

For a period known

Verse 23

فَقَدَرْنَاfaqadarnāSo We measured
فَنِعْمَfaniʿ'maand Best
ٱلْقَـٰدِرُونَl-qādirūna(are We to) measure

Translation

So We measured and Best (are We to) measure

Verse 24

وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoe
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Day
لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers

Translation

Woe that Day to the deniers

Verse 25

أَلَمْalamHave not
نَجْعَلِnajʿaliWe made
ٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earth
كِفَاتًاkifātana receptacle

Translation

Have not We made the earth a receptacle

Verse 26

أَحْيَآءًۭaḥyāan(For the) living
وَأَمْوَٰتًۭاwa-amwātanand (the) dead

Translation

(For the) living and (the) dead

Verse 27

وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāAnd We made
فِيهَاfīhātherein
رَوَٰسِىَrawāsiyafirmly set mountains
شَـٰمِخَـٰتٍۢshāmikhātinlofty
وَأَسْقَيْنَـٰكُمwa-asqaynākumand We gave you to drink
مَّآءًۭmāanwater
فُرَاتًۭاfurātansweet

Translation

And We made therein firmly set mountains lofty and We gave you to drink water sweet

Verse 28

وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoe
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Day
لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers

Translation

Woe that Day to the deniers

Verse 29

ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟inṭaliqūProceed
إِلَىٰilāto
مَاmāwhat
كُنتُمkuntumyou used to
بِهِۦbihiin it
تُكَذِّبُونَtukadhibūnadeny

Translation

Proceed to what you used to in it deny

Verse 30

ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟inṭaliqūProceed
إِلَىٰilāto
ظِلٍّۢẓillina shadow
ذِىdhīhaving
ثَلَـٰثِthalāthithree
شُعَبٍۢshuʿabincolumns

Translation

Proceed to a shadow having three columns

Verse 31

لَّاlāNo
ظَلِيلٍۢẓalīlincool shade
وَلَاwalāand not
يُغْنِىyugh'nīavailing
مِنَminaagainst
ٱللَّهَبِl-lahabithe flame

Translation

No cool shade and not availing against the flame

Verse 32

إِنَّهَاinnahāIndeed, it
تَرْمِىtarmīthrows up
بِشَرَرٍۢbishararinsparks
كَٱلْقَصْرِkal-qaṣrias the fortress

Translation

Indeed, it throws up sparks as the fortress

Verse 33

كَأَنَّهُۥka-annahuAs if they (were)
جِمَـٰلَتٌۭjimālatuncamels
صُفْرٌۭṣuf'runyellow

Translation

As if they (were) camels yellow

Verse 34

وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoe
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Day
لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers

Translation

Woe that Day to the deniers

Verse 35

هَـٰذَاhādhāThis
يَوْمُyawmu(is) a Day
لَاlānot
يَنطِقُونَyanṭiqūnathey will speak

Translation

This (is) a Day not they will speak

Verse 36

وَلَاwalāAnd not
يُؤْذَنُyu'dhanuwill it be permitted
لَهُمْlahumfor them
فَيَعْتَذِرُونَfayaʿtadhirūnato make excuses

Translation

And not will it be permitted for them to make excuses

Verse 37

وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoe
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Day
لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers

Translation

Woe that Day to the deniers

Verse 38

هَـٰذَاhādhāThis
يَوْمُyawmu(is the) Day
ٱلْفَصْلِ ۖl-faṣli(of) Judgment
جَمَعْنَـٰكُمْjamaʿnākumWe have gathered you
وَٱلْأَوَّلِينَwal-awalīnaand the former (people)

Translation

This (is the) Day (of) Judgment We have gathered you and the former (people)

Verse 39

فَإِنfa-inSo if
كَانَkānais
لَكُمْlakumfor you
كَيْدٌۭkayduna plan
فَكِيدُونِfakīdūnithen plan against Me

Translation

So if is for you a plan then plan against Me

Verse 40

وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoe
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Day
لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers

Translation

Woe that Day to the deniers

Verse 41

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīnathe righteous
فِىfī(will be) in
ظِلَـٰلٍۢẓilālinshades
وَعُيُونٍۢwaʿuyūninand springs

Translation

Indeed the righteous (will be) in shades and springs

Verse 42

وَفَوَٰكِهَwafawākihaAnd fruits
مِمَّاmimmāfrom what
يَشْتَهُونَyashtahūnathey desire

Translation

And fruits from what they desire

Verse 43

كُلُوا۟kulūEat
وَٱشْرَبُوا۟wa-ish'rabūand drink
هَنِيٓـًٔۢاhanīan(in) satisfaction
بِمَاbimāfor what
كُنتُمْkuntumyou used to
تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnado

Translation

Eat and drink (in) satisfaction for what you used to do

Verse 44

إِنَّاinnāIndeed, We
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikathus
نَجْزِىnajzīreward
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīnathe good-doers

Translation

Indeed, We thus reward the good-doers

Verse 45

وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoe
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Day
لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers

Translation

Woe that Day to the deniers

Verse 46

كُلُوا۟kulūEat
وَتَمَتَّعُوا۟watamattaʿūand enjoy yourselves
قَلِيلًاqalīlana little
إِنَّكُمinnakumindeed, you
مُّجْرِمُونَmuj'rimūna(are) criminals

Translation

Eat and enjoy yourselves a little indeed, you (are) criminals

Verse 47

وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoe
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Day
لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers

Translation

Woe that Day to the deniers

Verse 48

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
قِيلَqīlait is said
لَهُمُlahumuto them
ٱرْكَعُوا۟ir'kaʿūBow
لَاlānot
يَرْكَعُونَyarkaʿūnathey bow

Translation

And when it is said to them Bow not they bow

Verse 49

وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoe
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Day
لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers

Translation

Woe that Day to the deniers

Verse 50

فَبِأَىِّfabi-ayyiThen in what
حَدِيثٍۭḥadīthinstatement
بَعْدَهُۥbaʿdahuafter it
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnawill they believe

Translation

Then in what statement after it will they believe
