Chapter 82Meccan19 Verses

Verse 1

إِذَاidhāWhen
ٱلسَّمَآءُl-samāuthe sky
ٱنفَطَرَتْinfaṭarat(is) cleft asunder

Translation

When the sky (is) cleft asunder

Verse 2

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
ٱلْكَوَاكِبُl-kawākibuthe stars
ٱنتَثَرَتْintatharatscatter

Translation

And when the stars scatter

Verse 3

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
ٱلْبِحَارُl-biḥāruthe seas
فُجِّرَتْfujjiratare made to gush forth

Translation

And when the seas are made to gush forth

Verse 4

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
ٱلْقُبُورُl-qubūruthe graves
بُعْثِرَتْbuʿ'thiratare overturned

Translation

And when the graves are overturned

Verse 5

عَلِمَتْʿalimatWill know
نَفْسٌۭnafsuna soul
مَّاmāwhat
قَدَّمَتْqaddamatit has sent forth
وَأَخَّرَتْwa-akharatand left behind

Translation

Will know a soul what it has sent forth and left behind

Verse 6

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānuman
مَاmāWhat
غَرَّكَgharrakahas deceived you
بِرَبِّكَbirabbikaconcerning your Lord
ٱلْكَرِيمِl-karīmithe Most Noble

Translation

O man What has deceived you concerning your Lord the Most Noble

Verse 7

ٱلَّذِىalladhīWho
خَلَقَكَkhalaqakacreated you
فَسَوَّىٰكَfasawwākathen fashioned you
فَعَدَلَكَfaʿadalakathen balanced you

Translation

Who created you then fashioned you then balanced you

Verse 8

فِىٓfīIn
أَىِّayyiwhatever
صُورَةٍۢṣūratinform
مَّاmāwhat
شَآءَshāaHe willed
رَكَّبَكَrakkabakaHe assembled you

Translation

In whatever form what He willed He assembled you

Verse 9

كَلَّاkallāNay
بَلْbalBut
تُكَذِّبُونَtukadhibūnayou deny
بِٱلدِّينِbil-dīnithe Judgment

Translation

Nay But you deny the Judgment

Verse 10

وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumover you
لَحَـٰفِظِينَlaḥāfiẓīna(are) surely guardians

Translation

And indeed over you (are) surely guardians

Verse 11

كِرَامًۭاkirāmanNoble
كَـٰتِبِينَkātibīnarecording

Translation

Noble recording

Verse 12

يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaThey know
مَاmāwhatever
تَفْعَلُونَtafʿalūnayou do

Translation

They know whatever you do

Verse 13

إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلْأَبْرَارَl-abrārathe righteous
لَفِىlafī(will be) surely in
نَعِيمٍۢnaʿīminbliss

Translation

Indeed the righteous (will be) surely in bliss

Verse 14

وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
ٱلْفُجَّارَl-fujārathe wicked
لَفِىlafī(will be) surely in
جَحِيمٍۢjaḥīminHellfire

Translation

And indeed the wicked (will be) surely in Hellfire

Verse 15

يَصْلَوْنَهَاyaṣlawnahāThey will burn (in) it
يَوْمَyawma(on the) Day
ٱلدِّينِl-dīni(of) the Judgment

Translation

They will burn (in) it (on the) Day (of) the Judgment

Verse 16

وَمَاwamāAnd not
هُمْhumthey
عَنْهَاʿanhāfrom it
بِغَآئِبِينَbighāibīna(will be) absent

Translation

And not they from it (will be) absent

Verse 17

وَمَآwamāAnd what
أَدْرَىٰكَadrākacan make you know
مَاmāwhat
يَوْمُyawmu(is the) Day
ٱلدِّينِl-dīni(of) the Judgment

Translation

And what can make you know what (is the) Day (of) the Judgment

Verse 18

ثُمَّthummaThen
مَآmāwhat
أَدْرَىٰكَadrākacan make you know
مَاmāwhat
يَوْمُyawmu(is the) Day
ٱلدِّينِl-dīni(of) the Judgment

Translation

Then what can make you know what (is the) Day (of) the Judgment

Verse 19

يَوْمَyawma(The) Day
لَاlānot
تَمْلِكُtamlikuwill have power
نَفْسٌۭnafsuna soul
لِّنَفْسٍۢlinafsinfor a soul
شَيْـًۭٔا ۖshayananything
وَٱلْأَمْرُwal-amruand the Command
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Day
لِّلَّهِlillahi(will be) with Allah

Translation

(The) Day not will have power a soul for a soul anything and the Command that Day (will be) with Allah
