Chapter 84Meccan25 Verses

Verse 1

إِذَاidhāWhen
ٱلسَّمَآءُl-samāuthe sky
ٱنشَقَّتْinshaqqatis split asunder

Translation

When the sky is split asunder

Verse 2

وَأَذِنَتْwa-adhinatAnd has listened
لِرَبِّهَاlirabbihāto its Lord
وَحُقَّتْwaḥuqqatand was obligated

Translation

And has listened to its Lord and was obligated

Verse 3

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
ٱلْأَرْضُl-arḍuthe earth
مُدَّتْmuddatis spread

Translation

And when the earth is spread

Verse 4

وَأَلْقَتْwa-alqatAnd has cast out
مَاwhat
فِيهَاfīhā(is) in it
وَتَخَلَّتْwatakhallatand becomes empty

Translation

And has cast out what (is) in it and becomes empty

Verse 5

وَأَذِنَتْwa-adhinatAnd has listened
لِرَبِّهَاlirabbihāto its Lord
وَحُقَّتْwaḥuqqatand was obligated

Translation

And has listened to its Lord and was obligated

Verse 6

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānumankind
إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, you
كَادِحٌkādiḥun(are) laboring
إِلَىٰilāto
رَبِّكَrabbikayour Lord
كَدْحًۭاkadḥan(with) exertion
فَمُلَـٰقِيهِfamulāqīhiand you (will) meet Him

Translation

O mankind Indeed, you (are) laboring to your Lord (with) exertion and you (will) meet Him

Verse 7

فَأَمَّاfa-ammāThen as for
مَنْman(him) who
أُوتِىَūtiyais given
كِتَـٰبَهُۥkitābahuhis record
بِيَمِينِهِۦbiyamīnihiin his right (hand)

Translation

Then as for (him) who is given his record in his right (hand)

Verse 8

فَسَوْفَfasawfaThen soon
يُحَاسَبُyuḥāsabuhis account will be taken
حِسَابًۭاḥisābanan account
يَسِيرًۭاyasīraneasy

Translation

Then soon his account will be taken an account easy

Verse 9

وَيَنقَلِبُwayanqalibuAnd he will return
إِلَىٰٓilāto
أَهْلِهِۦahlihihis people
مَسْرُورًۭاmasrūranhappily

Translation

And he will return to his people happily

Verse 10

وَأَمَّاwa-ammāBut as for
مَنْman(him) who
أُوتِىَūtiyais given
كِتَـٰبَهُۥkitābahuhis record
وَرَآءَwarāabehind
ظَهْرِهِۦẓahrihihis back

Translation

But as for (him) who is given his record behind his back

Verse 11

فَسَوْفَfasawfaThen soon
يَدْعُوا۟yadʿūhe will call
ثُبُورًۭاthubūran(for) destruction

Translation

Then soon he will call (for) destruction

Verse 12

وَيَصْلَىٰwayaṣlāAnd he will burn
سَعِيرًاsaʿīran(in) a Blaze

Translation

And he will burn (in) a Blaze

Verse 13

إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, he
كَانَkānahad been
فِىٓamong
أَهْلِهِۦahlihihis people
مَسْرُورًاmasrūranhappy

Translation

Indeed, he had been among his people happy

Verse 14

إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, he
ظَنَّẓanna(had) thought
أَنanthat
لَّنlannever
يَحُورَyaḥūrahe would return

Translation

Indeed, he (had) thought that never he would return

Verse 15

بَلَىٰٓbalāYes
إِنَّinnaIndeed
رَبَّهُۥrabbahuhis Lord
كَانَkānawas
بِهِۦbihiof him
بَصِيرًۭاbaṣīranAll-Seer

Translation

Yes Indeed his Lord was of him All-Seer

Verse 16

فَلَآfalāBut nay
أُقْسِمُuq'simuI swear
بِٱلشَّفَقِbil-shafaqiby the twilight glow

Translation

But nay I swear by the twilight glow

Verse 17

وَٱلَّيْلِwa-al-layliAnd the night
وَمَاwamāand what
وَسَقَwasaqait envelops

Translation

And the night and what it envelops

Verse 18

وَٱلْقَمَرِwal-qamariAnd the moon
إِذَاidhāwhen
ٱتَّسَقَittasaqait becomes full

Translation

And the moon when it becomes full

Verse 19

لَتَرْكَبُنَّlatarkabunnaYou will surely embark
طَبَقًاṭabaqan(to) stage
عَنʿanfrom
طَبَقٍۢṭabaqinstage

Translation

You will surely embark (to) stage from stage

Verse 20

فَمَاfamāSo what
لَهُمْlahum(is) for them
لَاnot
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnathey believe

Translation

So what (is) for them not they believe

Verse 21

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
قُرِئَquri-ais recited
عَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimuto them
ٱلْقُرْءَانُl-qur'ānuthe Quran
لَاnot
يَسْجُدُونَ ۩yasjudūnathey prostrate

Translation

And when is recited to them the Quran not they prostrate

Verse 22

بَلِbaliNay
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose who
كَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieved
يُكَذِّبُونَyukadhibūnadeny

Translation

Nay Those who disbelieved deny

Verse 23

وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
أَعْلَمُaʿlamu(is) most knowing
بِمَاbimāof what
يُوعُونَyūʿūnathey keep within themselves

Translation

And Allah (is) most knowing of what they keep within themselves

Verse 24

فَبَشِّرْهُمfabashir'humso give them tidings
بِعَذَابٍbiʿadhābinof a punishment
أَلِيمٍalīminpainful

Translation

so give them tidings of a punishment painful

Verse 25

إِلَّاillāExcept
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve
وَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
لَهُمْlahumFor them
أَجْرٌajrun(is) a reward
غَيْرُghayrunever
مَمْنُونٍۭmamnūninending

Translation

Except those who believe and do righteous deeds For them (is) a reward never ending
