Chapter 86Meccan17 Verses

Verse 1

وَٱلسَّمَآءِwal-samāiBy the sky
وَٱلطَّارِقِwal-ṭāriqiand the night comer

Translation

By the sky and the night comer

Verse 2

وَمَآwamāAnd what
أَدْرَىٰكَadrākacan make you know
مَاmāwhat
ٱلطَّارِقُl-ṭāriquthe night comer (is)

Translation

And what can make you know what the night comer (is)

Verse 3

ٱلنَّجْمُal-najmu(It is) the star
ٱلثَّاقِبُl-thāqibuthe piercing

Translation

(It is) the star the piercing

Verse 4

إِنinNot
كُلُّkullu(is) every
نَفْسٍۢnafsinsoul
لَّمَّاlammābut
عَلَيْهَاʿalayhāover it
حَافِظٌۭḥāfiẓun(is) a protector

Translation

Not (is) every soul but over it (is) a protector

Verse 5

فَلْيَنظُرِfalyanẓuriSo let see
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānuman
مِمَّmimmafrom what
خُلِقَkhuliqahe is created

Translation

So let see man from what he is created

Verse 6

خُلِقَkhuliqaHe is created
مِنminfrom
مَّآءٍۢmāina water
دَافِقٍۢdāfiqinejected

Translation

He is created from a water ejected

Verse 7

يَخْرُجُyakhrujuComing forth
مِنۢminfrom
بَيْنِbaynibetween
ٱلصُّلْبِl-ṣul'bithe backbone
وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِwal-tarāibiand the ribs

Translation

Coming forth from between the backbone and the ribs

Verse 8

إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, He
عَلَىٰʿalāto
رَجْعِهِۦrajʿihireturn him
لَقَادِرٌۭlaqādirun(is) Able

Translation

Indeed, He to return him (is) Able

Verse 9

يَوْمَyawma(The) Day
تُبْلَىtub'lāwill be tested
ٱلسَّرَآئِرُl-sarāiruthe secrets

Translation

(The) Day will be tested the secrets

Verse 10

فَمَاfamāThen not
لَهُۥlahu(is) for him
مِنminany
قُوَّةٍۢquwwatinpower
وَلَاwalāand not
نَاصِرٍۢnāṣirinany helper

Translation

Then not (is) for him any power and not any helper

Verse 11

وَٱلسَّمَآءِwal-samāiBy the sky
ذَاتِdhātiwhich
ٱلرَّجْعِl-rajʿireturns

Translation

By the sky which returns

Verse 12

وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiAnd the earth
ذَاتِdhātiwhich
ٱلصَّدْعِl-ṣadʿicracks open

Translation

And the earth which cracks open

Verse 13

إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, it
لَقَوْلٌۭlaqawlun(is) surely a Word
فَصْلٌۭfaṣlundecisive

Translation

Indeed, it (is) surely a Word decisive

Verse 14

وَمَاwamāAnd not
هُوَhuwait
بِٱلْهَزْلِbil-hazli(is) for amusement

Translation

And not it (is) for amusement

Verse 15

إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, they
يَكِيدُونَyakīdūnaare plotting
كَيْدًۭاkaydana plot

Translation

Indeed, they are plotting a plot

Verse 16

وَأَكِيدُwa-akīduBut I am planning
كَيْدًۭاkaydana plan

Translation

But I am planning a plan

Verse 17

فَمَهِّلِfamahhiliSo give respite
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīna(to) the disbelievers
أَمْهِلْهُمْamhil'humGive respite to them
رُوَيْدًۢاruwaydanlittle

Translation

So give respite (to) the disbelievers Give respite to them little
