The Most High

Chapter 87Meccan19 Verses

Verse 1

سَبِّحِsabbiḥiGlorify
ٱسْمَis'ma(the) name
رَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lord
ٱلْأَعْلَىl-aʿlāthe Most High

Translation

Glorify (the) name (of) your Lord the Most High

Verse 2

ٱلَّذِىalladhīThe One Who
خَلَقَkhalaqacreated
فَسَوَّىٰfasawwāthen proportioned

Translation

The One Who created then proportioned

Verse 3

وَٱلَّذِىwa-alladhīAnd the One Who
قَدَّرَqaddarameasured
فَهَدَىٰfahadāthen guided

Translation

And the One Who measured then guided

Verse 4

وَٱلَّذِىٓwa-alladhīAnd the One Who
أَخْرَجَakhrajabrings forth
ٱلْمَرْعَىٰl-marʿāthe pasture

Translation

And the One Who brings forth the pasture

Verse 5

فَجَعَلَهُۥfajaʿalahuAnd then makes it
غُثَآءًghuthāanstubble
أَحْوَىٰaḥwādark

Translation

And then makes it stubble dark

Verse 6

سَنُقْرِئُكَsanuq'ri-ukaWe will make you recite
فَلَاfalāso not
تَنسَىٰٓtansāyou will forget

Translation

We will make you recite so not you will forget

Verse 7

إِلَّاillāExcept
مَاmāwhat
شَآءَshāawills
ٱللَّهُ ۚl-lahuAllah
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, He
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknows
ٱلْجَهْرَl-jahrathe manifest
وَمَاwamāand what
يَخْفَىٰyakhfāis hidden

Translation

Except what wills Allah Indeed, He knows the manifest and what is hidden

Verse 8

وَنُيَسِّرُكَwanuyassirukaAnd We will ease you
لِلْيُسْرَىٰlil'yus'rāto the ease

Translation

And We will ease you to the ease

Verse 9

فَذَكِّرْfadhakkirSo remind
إِنinif
نَّفَعَتِnafaʿatibenefits
ٱلذِّكْرَىٰl-dhik'rāthe reminder

Translation

So remind if benefits the reminder

Verse 10

سَيَذَّكَّرُsayadhakkaruHe will pay heed
مَنman(one) who
يَخْشَىٰyakhshāfears (Allah)

Translation

He will pay heed (one) who fears (Allah)

Verse 11

وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَاwayatajannabuhāAnd will avoid it
ٱلْأَشْقَىl-ashqāthe wretched one

Translation

And will avoid it the wretched one

Verse 12

ٱلَّذِىalladhīThe one who
يَصْلَىyaṣlāwill burn
ٱلنَّارَl-nāra(in) the Fire
ٱلْكُبْرَىٰl-kub'rā[the] great

Translation

The one who will burn (in) the Fire [the] great

Verse 13

ثُمَّthummaThen
لَاlānot
يَمُوتُyamūtuhe will die
فِيهَاfīhātherein
وَلَاwalāand not
يَحْيَىٰyaḥyāwill live

Translation

Then not he will die therein and not will live

Verse 14

قَدْqadCertainly
أَفْلَحَaflaḥahas succeeded
مَنman(one) who
تَزَكَّىٰtazakkāpurifies (himself)

Translation

Certainly has succeeded (one) who purifies (himself)

Verse 15

وَذَكَرَwadhakaraAnd remembers
ٱسْمَis'ma(the) name
رَبِّهِۦrabbihi(of) his Lord
فَصَلَّىٰfaṣallāand prays

Translation

And remembers (the) name (of) his Lord and prays

Verse 16

بَلْbalNay
تُؤْثِرُونَtu'thirūnaYou prefer
ٱلْحَيَوٰةَl-ḥayatathe life
ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the world

Translation

Nay You prefer the life (of) the world

Verse 17

وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُwal-ākhiratuWhile the Hereafter
خَيْرٌۭkhayrun(is) better
وَأَبْقَىٰٓwa-abqāand everlasting

Translation

While the Hereafter (is) better and everlasting

Verse 18

إِنَّinnaIndeed
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
لَفِىlafīsurely (is) in
ٱلصُّحُفِl-ṣuḥufithe Scriptures
ٱلْأُولَىٰl-ūlā[the] former

Translation

Indeed this surely (is) in the Scriptures [the] former

Verse 19

صُحُفِṣuḥufi(The) Scriptures
إِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīma(of) Ibrahim
وَمُوسَىٰwamūsāand Musa

Translation

(The) Scriptures (of) Ibrahim and Musa
