The Night

Chapter 92Meccan21 Verses

Verse 1

وَٱلَّيْلِwa-al-layliBy the night
إِذَاidhāwhen
يَغْشَىٰyaghshāit covers

Translation

By the night when it covers

Verse 2

وَٱلنَّهَارِwal-nahāriAnd the day
إِذَاidhāwhen
تَجَلَّىٰtajallāit shines in brightness

Translation

And the day when it shines in brightness

Verse 3

وَمَاwamāAnd He Who
خَلَقَkhalaqacreated
ٱلذَّكَرَl-dhakarathe male
وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓwal-unthāand the female

Translation

And He Who created the male and the female

Verse 4

إِنَّinnaIndeed
سَعْيَكُمْsaʿyakumyour efforts
لَشَتَّىٰlashattā(are) surely diverse

Translation

Indeed your efforts (are) surely diverse

Verse 5

فَأَمَّاfa-ammāThen as for
مَنْman(him) who
أَعْطَىٰaʿṭāgives
وَٱتَّقَىٰwa-ittaqāand fears

Translation

Then as for (him) who gives and fears

Verse 6

وَصَدَّقَwaṣaddaqaAnd believes
بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰbil-ḥus'nāin the best

Translation

And believes in the best

Verse 7

فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥfasanuyassiruhuThen We will ease him
لِلْيُسْرَىٰlil'yus'rātowards [the] ease

Translation

Then We will ease him towards [the] ease

Verse 8

وَأَمَّاwa-ammāBut as for
مَنۢman(him) who
بَخِلَbakhilawithholds
وَٱسْتَغْنَىٰwa-is'taghnāand considers himself free from need

Translation

But as for (him) who withholds and considers himself free from need

Verse 9

وَكَذَّبَwakadhabaAnd denies
بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰbil-ḥus'nāthe best

Translation

And denies the best

Verse 10

فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥfasanuyassiruhuThen We will ease him
لِلْعُسْرَىٰlil'ʿus'rātowards [the] difficulty

Translation

Then We will ease him towards [the] difficulty

Verse 11

وَمَاwamāAnd not
يُغْنِىyugh'nīwill avail
عَنْهُʿanhuhim
مَالُهُۥٓmāluhuhis wealth
إِذَاidhāwhen
تَرَدَّىٰٓtaraddāhe falls

Translation

And not will avail him his wealth when he falls

Verse 12

إِنَّinnaIndeed
عَلَيْنَاʿalaynāupon Us
لَلْهُدَىٰlalhudā(is) the guidance

Translation

Indeed upon Us (is) the guidance

Verse 13

وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed
لَنَاlanāfor Us
لَلْـَٔاخِرَةَlalākhirata(is) the Hereafter
وَٱلْأُولَىٰwal-ūlāand the first (life)

Translation

And indeed for Us (is) the Hereafter and the first (life)

Verse 14

فَأَنذَرْتُكُمْfa-andhartukumSo I warn you
نَارًۭاnāran(of) a Fire
تَلَظَّىٰtalaẓẓāblazing

Translation

So I warn you (of) a Fire blazing

Verse 15

لَاlāNot
يَصْلَىٰهَآyaṣlāhāwill burn (in) it
إِلَّاillāexcept
ٱلْأَشْقَىl-ashqāthe most wretched

Translation

Not will burn (in) it except the most wretched

Verse 16

ٱلَّذِىalladhīThe one who
كَذَّبَkadhabadenied
وَتَوَلَّىٰwatawallāand turned away

Translation

The one who denied and turned away

Verse 17

وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَاwasayujannabuhāBut will be removed from it
ٱلْأَتْقَىl-atqāthe righteous

Translation

But will be removed from it the righteous

Verse 18

ٱلَّذِىalladhīThe one who
يُؤْتِىyu'tīgives
مَالَهُۥmālahuhis wealth
يَتَزَكَّىٰyatazakkā(to) purify himself

Translation

The one who gives his wealth (to) purify himself

Verse 19

وَمَاwamāAnd not
لِأَحَدٍli-aḥadinfor anyone
عِندَهُۥʿindahuwith him
مِنminany
نِّعْمَةٍۢniʿ'matinfavor
تُجْزَىٰٓtuj'zāto be recompensed

Translation

And not for anyone with him any favor to be recompensed

Verse 20

إِلَّاillāExcept
ٱبْتِغَآءَib'tighāaseeking
وَجْهِwajhi(the) Countenance
رَبِّهِrabbihi(of) his Lord
ٱلْأَعْلَىٰl-aʿlāthe Most High

Translation

Except seeking (the) Countenance (of) his Lord the Most High

Verse 21

وَلَسَوْفَwalasawfaAnd soon, surely
يَرْضَىٰyarḍāhe will be pleased

Translation

And soon, surely he will be pleased
